@Caryslan Indeed, the fact that many of the games that are being released for the PS4 and Xbox One are also available for their predecessors is baffling. It's even stranger when it comes from the console owning companies themselves, I have little to no idea why Sony would make LittleBigPlanet 3 for both PS4 and PS3.
That's a game that would have interested me in getting a PS4, but knowing I can get it on my PS3, there's no need for me to even consider a PS4 for it.
@Quorthon I actually find the PS4 controller to be rather awful. Admittedly, I've only used it for a short moment or two within stores, but I find the controller too small and light, and the shoulder buttons flimsy.
The Wii U Gamepad on the other-hand I credit as the best controller of all. It fits perfectly into my hands, with wonderful feeling shoulder buttons. The additional screen I feel has made a big impact with how I experiance a game, the biggest case for this being my time playing through The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD. Being able to switch between weapons in the midst of combat or as I sail the seas felt incredibly smooth, and I delighted in using the gyroscope controls of the gamepad for when I often used the camera or grappling hook. Furthermore, off-tv play is a wonderful feature, allowing me to take to playing my games even when my Dad wants to watch TV, or my brothers want to play on the 360 in the front room. Of course, this is a matter of opinion, much like your views on nostalgia, which will differ from that of others.
@aaronsullivan I enjoyed seeing this post, as someone who loves the Wii U Gamepad to bits, it's always nice to see someone giving it the praise it deserves. So thank you.
@aaronsullivan Of course, but at the end of the day, it is still Midna. Furthermore, from what I know, her true form only appeared at the very end of the game. I imagine more people are attached to and recognise the character in her cursed form. Still, I do understand the point that these two forms will likely play very differently.
Given how I've seen one of Link's weapons in Hyrule Warriors is the Great Fairy, in which you effectively play as the Great Fairy rather than Link with it's own model and all, I do wonder why they couldn't have just made Midna's true form a weapon for Midna.
Even though I did just recently purchase an Xbox One, I do agree that the Wii U does come across as the better deal. It has more exclusives, free online, and an amazing controller in the form of the Gamepad which can really add to the experience of some games. It is also backwards compatable, one of the key reasons I went out of the way to get a Wii U on launch day (and too long afterwards, finally getting The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword).
Still, some peoples opinion will differ on this matter because some peoples tastes in games differ. Certainly, Nintendo has a large line up of quality games that are exclusive to the Wii U, but some may not enjoy those exclusives and prefer what the Xbox One or PS4 is offering... although, I have no idea what the big PS4 exclusive is supposed to be this holiday. I mean, Xbox One has Sunset Overdrive and technically the Halo: Master Chief Collection (unless you happen to have owned all 4 of the Halo games across both the Xbox and Xbox 360). The biggest Sony game I've heard about coming out is LittleBigPlanet 3, the one game that Sony announced at E3 that could have tempted me in a PS4, yet that's also available on the PS3 now.
Okay, kind of went off track there. Overall, I do believe that the Wii U has the most to offer right now and this Christmas, but in the end it depends on peoples personal preferences. I wish the Wii U good luck in selling well this Holiday period.
@aaronsullivan Let's see... I was about 14... maybe 15 when I played Twilight Princess, though I'm not quite sure what exactly you're implying with your question. I didn't play Twilight Princess much or get very far, it just couldn't hold my attention for all too long, and I ended up distracted by other games. I hear Midna improves as a character throughout the game, but I just found her to annoying and unlikable, and the game didn't do much to interest me in going along to the point where she does develop.
My preference for the idea of having one of the Yeti's playable, particularly Yeta, is admittedly not based on a personal experience or preference of character (as noted, I never did get very far into the game). It's more the matter that Midna is already playable within the game, even if this DLC is a different form that will likely play differently, and not only would Yeta or Yeto be a different person, but I feel they have interesting potential for what they could do (particularly Yeta given the whole Blizzetta connection).
It's a little disappointing that the character clothing customisation has been removed, though I'm glad to hear the rollerskates are gone. I always wanted to use the Control Pad to move but couldn't move well using the rollerskates. The sneak function seems much more interesting and beneficial.
I'm glad to hear that what I loved about the original will still be there; contests, secret bases, the differing teams which made both versions worth purchasing. I am also glad to hear that some of the great features of X and Y such as the Pokémon Amie, and Super Training will be back. Overall Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire are my 2nd favourite entries in the Pokémon series, and my 2nd favourite GBA game of all, so I'm really looking forward to this remake.
The only downside is that, with my lack of funds at the time, I had to put it down as a Christmas present so I'll have to wait until then to get to play it. Anyway, awesome review, it did a good job detailing what was new, what was still there, and what was now absent from the previous entry.
As someone who isn't a fan of Midna, this a little disappointing. Then again, I wasn't really a fan of Twilight Princess so who they were going to add as the Twilight Princess DLC character wasn't going to bother me too much.
That said, I would have preferred one of the Yeti's, Yeta probably making the most sense as her move-set could be connected and based around the Blizzeta boss.
Still loving the look of Splatoon, still eagerly awaiting for it's release. I'll to put aside some money for it specifically, unlike a lot of the other games I'm wanting, this will be coming out after my Birthday.
As for Mario Kart 8, with my disappointment with Mario Kart Wii and DS gameplay, I avoided getting the more recent Mario Kart entries. I have to admit though that the inclusion of other Nintendo characters is tempting, and I'd pretty much be unable to resist getting this if Kirby was one of the DLC characters announced. Luckily, he wasn't, my wallet can be spared from even more purchases.
I do feel, as excited as I am for Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, that I wouldn't be nearly as interested in it if it were not for being able to play levels of it through it's inclusion as part of Super Mario 3D World. Due to enjoying the small side levels within Super Mario 3D World, as well as later trailers that have shown how the initial idea can be expanded upon, a game I'd have likely overlooked is now one that is among my most wanted currently.
If it were still a Legend of Zelda game, I feel that to interest me in it as much as I am for the actual Captain Toad, it'd of had to have followed a similar route of development. First appearing as a side quest within a Legend of Zelda game, and then going on to be expanded upon in it's own title with a protagonist different from the main series (as having the game star Captain Toad rather than the usual main Mario cast, also interests me in the game more).
I'm happy to see Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker come to fruition as it is, but if it followed the same path of development albeit within the Legend of Zelda series, I'd likely be equally as interested in the concept.
Hmm, I remember hearing about this game, although I believe my memories must have gotten mixed up with another game as I remember the main character being some form of dog humanoid... I'm sure they both had sky in the title.
Anyway, this does look interesting, and if it happens to arrive in the UK I may consider purchasing it, particularly if it's a physical purchase. I'll have to see more of the game than what was shown, more so what the updated Wii U version is like.
For now, I'm simply intrigued, though I will admit that I loved that theme song playing.
Hooray, this game will be out sooner... leaving less time for my wallet to recuperate from Christmas.
I'm really looking forward to this game, and I really want to get this game day one, but with it being released so soon after Christmas, I'm worried as to whether I'll even have the funds left over to get it day one. Well, let's hope so, the game looks fantastic.
I was interested in this game when it shown at E3, probably my 2nd favourite thing shown off at E3 2014 overall, but given I rarely play games online, it made me hesitant on the title until I got to see some of the single player footage.
With this recent single player campaign trailer though, it's now my most wanted game for the Wii U. I'm really looking forward to Splatoon, and I'm pleased to see so many positive responses to this game overall.
I'm not sure if I'm lucky or not. I just got sent a code... but I don't have enough data space to download it.
Hopefully the computer shop nearby has an SD card compatible with the 3DS otherwise I'm going to have to wait a long while before I get to play this demo.
Finally! It's been painful trying to avoid the spoilers of the many people praising this game.
That said, I believe it was quite pricey to download, and by the time it comes out I'll have Scram Kitty and his Buddy On Rails, Costume Quest 2, The Legend of Dark Witch, Stealth Inc. 2, Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse, and hopefully Nihilumbra all vying to be bought and downloaded. Even when it comes out, I may have to wait on getting this game, depending on it's price compared to the other download games that will be available around the time.
Paper Mario for the N64 is my absolute favourite N64 game, as well as my 2nd favourite Mario game (my favourite Mario game being it's sequel, Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door).
I admittedly got it rather late, I think it was my birthday following the Christmas in which my brothers and I received a GameCube, but I remember yelling with joy upon unwrapping this game and playing it solely for the following week. A wonderful game to which I have wonderful memories of.
This game has gone from a maybe later purchase, to a game I hope someone to buy me for my Birthday, to a I'll be buying it myself day one when the game comes out. I just hope I'll have the money after Christmas shopping to get it in January.
Anyway, the game looks more and more adorable. I enjoyed the Captain Toad levels in Super Mario 3D World, but they've appeared to have expanded it more and more each time they show things off for this game and it currently has a tight hold on my attention. Eagerly awaiting the chance to play it.
