There are multiple issues.. some as noted in article.
These are not new games.
Many enthusiasts don't like key cards.
Add in expensive SD express cards to store key card games
Compounding with that enthusiasts often buy new systems first...
Enthusiasts often have multiple game or PC like systems... So with steam decks and other portable PCs. Already have ways to play some of these games on the go.
The switch 1 library is already massive. So might as well finish some of those.
The switch 2 was expensive so maybe consumers are holding back on the games after getting the system.
Mario kart is bundled with many systems... Do you really want to compare to that one???
Cost of living increases may also factor in.
Will be interesting to see how the new DK sales...
But I would guess you would need to find a different way of powering the m.2 drive. It would likely have power requirements that exceed what the express card port would put out...
I could find something like this useful to someone who just wants to use the switch as a tv console; rather than a portable.
Would be nice to know if any of our current licenced wired or wireless controllers for switch 1 will work with the switch 2. So far I couldn't find anything on powera, hori, or Nintendo websites.
@ChakraStomps That is a valid concern... But not the only concern. Google AI Overview: While prosperity is generally desirable, it can indeed lead to challenges in business. A period of economic expansion and high demand can create pressures on resources, workforce, and infrastructure. Furthermore, prosperity can sometimes foster complacency, leading businesses to lose focus on innovation and adaptation."
I am not disregarding the new complexities. Though to use this as an excuse to not do better is not only lame... but may in fact lead to the eventual 1-2 disasters that make them vulnerable enough to collapse.
Businesses have failed due to first being too successful and then forgetting the customers (and sometimes employees/partners as well) that got them them to that point. "basically failing due to a disconnect from customer needs and employee concerns" especially as those change.
"A kinder, more customer centric and influenced Nintendo is the one I like best."
I also believe it will make them more sustainable in the future; from the business side of things.
The steam deck is at heart a tinkerers machine. I told my one brother this before he bought one. He knew there would be some compatibility issues from time to time. But with the expectations forcasted in the right direction. He has loved it.
Another of my brothers... I attempted to explain this to him too but either he didn't understand or still wanted to believe that that if it had the steam logo on it it should play everything in the storefront... He has not liked the system and complained loudly about it to me.
I like it myself.
But please don't buy it if you expect all games to run or play smoothly.
The switch ease of use and user experience and exclusive games are definitely worth a premium is many eyes.
The steam deck is different and worth its premium via its expertise in user choice, user repairability/modding, controller configuration, vast library but with compatibility or performance issues.
I like them both and will not try to prescribe a one size fits all.
Yes through the USB to gc controller adapter for smash (official switch adapter, Wii u adapter). On the switch 1 It will work in any game where you don't need all the buttons.
Unlike the Wii u where it didn't work for anything.
Also as a fun note for the switch 1 the pokken controller can also be used for any games that don't need the extra buttons. Feels pretty weird playing Mario kart 8 deluxe with it though...
@ChakraStomps Well I'm guessing you are just talking about the games. In the which I would agree with you in that I see a lot of love and dedication poured into the making of new games.
(for remakes though... not so much)
Though I would rather focus on the entirety of my experience with Nintendo over many years. As a long time fan. Through eras of success like the Wii, or times of hardship like the Wii U or even the beginnings of the 3ds. During hard times for Nintendo. Nintendo worked hard to find ways to make the biggest fans feel rewarded outside of just playing a game. The whole experience.
That has been a valuable experience to me.
Think reward systems:
Think gamecube reward system era. Sending out cool things for buying and playing games. enter the codes and they just shipped you cool stuff. Value added fun and even collectible zelda collection game for being a fan and paying attention.
Compared to today: We are successful and so at first slash all physical rewards systems... then get complaints and so bring them back kind of... (but we don't really want to pay much for having this reward so we will charge you shipping). We don't really want our gold coin system from the beginning of the switch era either so let's drop it.
I am not trying to loudly complain or chant things like Nintendo should "change", 'fix this now', or "lower the prime". Nintendo does need to make money to keep making fun games. I am merely explaining that I have enjoyed being a Nintendo owner and game player more when Nintendo is actually less successful but only because that's when Nintendo seemingly pays the most attention to it's longtime fans. So I don't mind when Nintendo gets a bit of pushback now and then. I typically like those end results. I don't ever want them to go under. Just enough push back to change their tune a bit. A kinder, more customer centric and influenced Nintendo is the one I like best.
Prices are an interesting thing. Nintendo has had ups and downs in the not so distant past. Wii ... Wii u... 3ds... Pricing definitely had an effect. Marketing did as well. The negativity I hear from a lot of people on price and other things for the switch 2 doesn't bode well for its success. You might blame market conditions. But honestly the more successful Nintendo is the less consumer friendly they tend to be. It's alright for a company to get a wake up call every now and again. Perhaps it what has given Nintendo the ability to pivot and innovate from time to time.
I'm more interested on if they fixed the dpad on the pro controller. As the joycon still doesn't have one... Also more interested in what they have done to fix stick drift in this iteration... if anything... as they didn't note anything about hall effect joysticks. Rumble is fine and has been available since the n64. So it's always nice to see the feature get a boost. Hardly it's best feature though. 1080p 120hz VRR. Is likely it's best new feature as even if games don't hit the super high framerates the games themselves will often look smoother.
Probably didn't help that I didn't realize that this was the sequel to the first one. I bet a lot of people saw it and thought it was just the original game with the DLC included or something like that.
Nintendo has oft been a fan customer first company. backwards compatibility with Gameboy and ds and 3ds and gamecube, wii, and wii u. Wii U's optional VC upgrade pricing (gamepad support and button remapping support added). Promotions with older games often involved, animal crossing nes games on gamecube, metroid game unlockable in gc. Free games nes and gba to customers who bought 3ds early and afterwards they decided to cut the price. It's weird to see Nintendo being so anti-fan base at the moment. Maybe the Switch success has gone to it's head... VC held hostage to online subscription with no option to buy. No recognition of previous fan based purchases on wii u or upgrade path. No backwards compatibility with wii u pro controllers on switch. This is definitely not the nintendo I knew previously. A little sad really. Still some nice and fun games. But as a company not the same love for their long time customers. This will probably hurt them in the long run; but for the time being they won't recognize it due to the short run gains.
This is a stupid article... Amazon has always been pushing all forms of media on it's fire products; notwithstanding I doubt it was amazon pushing the advertising of the Megadrive classics app... It had to be sega. And it's not amazon's fault sega's emulation was awful; it was sega's. Sega's emulation with exception of M2 has been poor many times. Try that same steel controller in another game and tell me if it has problems; if so maybe then maybe amazon or steel should fix something. I am not convinced the "controller" was laggy based on trying that game.
As for nintendo; the media thing didn't really work for them on the wii u. The media thing advertising for the xbox one didn't really work for microsoft either...
I don't believe nintendo is actively blocking netflix; as there is hulu; but nintendo doesn't really see it as an advantage to push netflix to add their app to the nintendo switch. If consumers want netflix really on the switch they should ask netflix.
As for nintendo focusing on video games... not really. They tend to focus on creating gaming experiences (at home, on the go, and with others in a variety of ways); sometimes they succeed and other times... nope.
Capcom has oft worked with other companies, including Sega. Sure they would both have to come to an agreement! But may not be impossible to see some games pop over. For instance Capcom nes games are on switch online as well as some on retrobit's systems.
Under game options there is a new camera mode. and you can also invert the camera left/right or up/down. So just wondering if anyone complaining about the camera tried any of these options. As for the default option when you start the game. I didn't like the camera settings either.
Nintendo has found ways of re-releasing their content for years. How many different ways has nintendo released NES games: GBA-NES game carts GBA-Ereader NES Cards NES within games like animal crossing. NES VC on wii, wii u and 3ds NES 3d versions on 3ds NES remakes like mario all-stars and mario advance gba series albeit this one is capcom; but allowing NES titles being brought back like mega man legacy collection on nintendo switch. NES Classic console NES Online
If you want to play these popular NES games you can likely do so without pirating...
However many other gems don't have and have not had the nice re-releases on VC or GOG or Steam or anywhere. Crystalis for example has not had a re-release since the gbc and the gbc one is on such a small screen it hardly would do it justice. 18 years since then... games like that might drive people to piracy; even still it's only like 20$ used on ebay. PS it's finally getting a re-release on switch via snk 40th anniversary bundle for 40$. but some gems are not so lucky and much more costly.
Wii U was a fun game system with a few annoyances: Slow UI, multiple menus for game. If I had a wii vc game on sd... I had to go to wii menu, then sd menu. So annoying. Wii u gamepad requirement on games was a pain. especially since mine has broke twice, expensive to fix via nintendo and expensive to get a used one. Loved the games though, mario 3d world, mario maker, zelda remakes in hd, smash 4, mario kart 8. The switch: also is a fun game system; but has annoyances too. The joycon controllers are uncomfortable and seem to always be discharging regardless of use. The switch's wii u ports have new features... very annoying if you own the old ones. Not enough new content to warrant buying the game again. So I won't be trying them. other switch games are fun; with more 3rd party too. master blaster, Sonic Mania, mario odyssee.

In other words; sure games will still pick up the inputs! But not supported due to not having enough buttons to play or the buttons needed are not the buttons mapped. Also not supported because they don't plan on updating any software to get it to work either.
How can any of those count as a sale... it's a promise to buy; with no obligation and completely able to be cancelled beforehand. No money has yet changed hands? Just an accounting question and a marketing question at the same time?
