Hey guys, guys guys, you should totally buy Little King's Story when it's released where you live. It's awesome! And in exchange, give us a European release date for Rune Factory: Frontier. Thank you very much!
I remember people being surprised at Texas Hold'em Tournament doing so well last week. But it's been a big thing all over Europe for ages now.
@Homer Simpson: WiiWare and DSiWare are bought from different shops and played on different systems, so it makes sense to have different posts for the top sellers. The VC top 20 doesn't really change at all. People complain that WiiWare doesn't change enough to merit its own weekly Top 20; VC is a hundred times worse!
Anyway, UK:
1 (2) - Final Fantasy IV: The After Years 2 (1) - My Aquarium 3 (3) - World of Goo 4 (4) - Texas Hold'em Tournament 5 (5) - Swords & Soldiers 6 (6) - Onslaught 7 (8) - Pop-Up Pirate! 8 (7) - My Pokemon Ranch 9 (9) - Bomberman Blast 10 (10) - Defend Your Castle 11 (12) - FUN! Up: The After Years tops the chart now. TV Show King inexplicably goes up 5. Tetris Party hasn't been that high for ages. Down: My Aquarium, but for how long?! Fish'em All drops 5, and it only entered last week. Hello: Snowboard Riot, making a reappearance at 18. Goodbye: Rainbow Islands Towering Adventure!
@Chicken Brutus: A chapter takes about a minute to read, or you can flip through the pages in a matter of seconds, or you can just not go to the library at all. It's hardly trundling through a mass of text!
@theblackdragon: It could have. But it doesn't make a difference. She is a space princess who acts as a mother to cuddly adorable stars and has an observatory that she lets Mario use on his quest. It's suitably nonsensical for the nonsensical Mario canon!
@theblackdragon: Well, Mario did use her observatory to get to all the galaxies, and she did find him when he failed to stop Bowser kidnapping Peach in the first place, so I think she's going to have to be in the next game unless he does it by other means. Even so, I don't think she was ever intended to be essential. I mean, really, Princess Daisy doesn't do anything of import, but she turns up all the time unnecessarily
@theblackdragon: But given that they were introducing her as a brand new character it didn't hurt to tell us a little bit about her, cos otherwise she'd be this totally unknown character with no real meaning. It wouldn't really matter if they didn't do the same thing in the sequel, because she's an established character now. And it did explain why the Lumas followed Rosalina as well. So the story did have its uses!
People are talking as if the Rosalina story in Mario Galaxy was a major thing. It was just an aside that was meant as a backstory for her, not as an integral part of the game or anything. You didn't need to know anything about the story to understand the ending...
The Rosalina subplot in Galaxy was nice, though... Good accompaniment to the main story. It's not exactly like Galaxy was story driven, but rather complemented by the addition of one. And it's not like it bogged the game down in dialogue or anything. But it's the gameplay that matters, so assuming it'll be just as awesome as the first one, it's fine!
To the people annoyed that they didn't get Smash Bros: sure, Europe has gotten Majora's Mask and Smash Bros before America. But America has gotten plenty of big VC titles before us in the past. Like...
Super Metroid NA: 20 Aug 07, EU: 12 Oct 07
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past NA: 22 Jan 07, EU: 23 Mar 07
Mario Golf NA: 06 Oct 08, EU: 23 Jan 09...
Well those are a few examples. So just think of them when you're annoyed that we get a game first, and maybe it won't seem as unfair . And THEN look at RGVEDA's WiiWare list. We're positively starved!
It's funny that Rare had more of an identity when they were with Nintendo. What Molyneux says up there sounds like a criticism of Nintendo (as if they smothered Rare or something) when really Rare've lost favour with gamers since they joined Microsoft. That's not to say that games like Viva Pinata aren't good, but people associate the company with games like Banjo Kazooie and Goldeneye, which would imply that they were in their heyday - when they were well known - in the Ninty days, not the Microsoft ones. I don't see how he can blame Nintendo for Rare not being well known enough now. Nintendo don't really have anything to do with them apart from the odd DS title.
I don't think there's any harm in a company being secretive. It means that they make a bigger impact when they unveil games and stuff, you know? Like, say, Other M. Companies would do well to learn from that. The Last Guardian could have been a much bigger deal had it not already been leaked. Secrecy is no bad thing!!
HOORAY. Really, the 2010 release date they had before was ridiculous. With any luck my Christmas will be filled with Muramasa and New Super Mario Bros goodness.
1 (1) - My Aquarium 2 (N) - Final Fantasy IV: The After Years 3 (3) - World of Goo 4 (4) - Texas Hold'em Tournament 5 (2) - Swords & Soldiers 6 (5) - Onslaught 7 (6) - My Pokemon Ranch 8 (7) - Pop-Up Pirate! 9 (9) - Bomberman Blast 10 (8) - Defend Your Castle 11 (10) - BIT.TRIP BEAT 12 (11) - FUN! @pixelman: But Bowser's Inside Story was released ages ago, really they were just reaffirming that it's coming to the West soon. Whereas Golden Sun is a series we haven't seen for ages that nobody saw coming!
Nice podcast James, though I have to ask, do you like listening to it? I hate hearing my voice back on a recording!!
We do love fish in the UK. Further proof that Bit.Trip Fish could be a winning idea...:
1 (2) - My Aquarium 2 (1) - Swords & Soldiers 3 (3) - World of Goo 4 (4) - Texas Hold'em Tournament 5 (5) - Onslaught 6 (7) - My Pokemon Ranch 7 (6) - Pop-Up Pirate! 8 (9) - Defend Your Castle 9 (10) - Bomberman Blast 10 (8) - BIT.TRIP BEAT 11 (12) - FUN! Up: My Aquarium back to 1. My Life As A King climbs the most, though; 6 places! Down: Swords & Soldiers back at 2, Rainbow Islands Falls a sore 5 places. Hello: No new entries. Fish'em All didn't break in. Goodbye: No losses, but Tetris Party and CueSports are slipping.
I never quite finished The Lost Age. Love Golden Sun though, love it love it love it. I can't believe it actually got announced! Through the whole RPG bit I thought, ok, Crystal Bearers, Kingdom Hearts, maybe they'll show Dragon Quest IX? But when Reggie mentioned a game that we hadn't seen for 6 years, I thought... It can't be... And it was. .
1 (2) - Swords & Soldiers 2 (1) - My Aquarium 3 (3) - World of Goo 4 (4) - Texas Hold'em Tournament 5 (6) - Onslaught 6 (7) - Pop-Up Pirate 7 (9) - My Pokemon Ranch 8 (5) - BIT.TRIP BEAT 9 (10) - Defend Your Castle 10 (11) - Bomberman Blast 11 (8) - Rainbow Islands Towering Adventure! 12 (19) - FUN! FUN! Minigolf 13 (18) - The Incredible Maze 14 (17) - TV Show King 15 (13) - Bubble Bobble Plus! 16 (15) - CueSports - Snooker vs. Billiards 17 (12) - Equilibrio 18 (16) - Snowboard Riot 19 (14) - Tetris Party 20 (N) - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King
Up: Swords & Soldiers now reigns supreme. FUN! FUN! Minigolf is up 7 places; The Incredible Maze's up 5. Hmm. Down: My Aquarium, for now. Equilibrio & Tetris Party down 5 each. Hello: My Life As A King, again. Crystal Defenders R2 and Penguins & Friends fail to make a dent in the chart. Goodbye: LostWinds. You'll probably come crawling back...
Up: World of Goo's up 1, Rainbow Islands' up 4. Down: BIT.TRIP was no. 1 briefly over the week, but now down to 5. Lots of drops this week. Hello: Swords & Soldiers, straight in at 2. Impressive! LostWinds re-enters at 20. Goodbye: Adventure Island and My Life As A King. The latter will probably resurface though.
1 (1) - My Aquarium 2 (4) - Bit.Trip Beat 3 (2) - Texas Hold'em Tournament 4 (3) - World of Goo 5 (5) - Onslaught 6 (6) - My Pokemon Ranch 7 (7) - Pop-Up Pirate! 8 (11) - Bomberman Blast 9 (9) - Equilibrio 10 (12) - Defend Your Castle 11 (10) - Bubble Bobble Plus! 12 (N) - Rainbow Islands Towering Adventure! 13 (15) - Tetris Party 14 (20) - CueSports - Snooker vs. Billiards 15 (13) - Snowboard Riot 16 (16) - TV Show King 17 (8) - Adventure Island: The Beginning 18 (17) - The Incredible Maze 19 (18) - FUN! FUN! Minigolf 20 (19) - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King
New: Rainbow Islands at 12! Gone: Crystal Defenders falls from 14 to obscurity. Climbers: Bit.Trip is up at 2; CueSports climbs 6 spots. Falling: Adventure Island is shunted down 9 places. YOWZA.
1 (1) - My Aquarium 2 (2) - Texas Hold'em Tournament 3 (3) - World of Goo 4 (N) - Bit.Trip Beat 5 (4) - Onslaught 6 (5) - My Pokemon Ranch 7 (6) - Pop-Up Pirate! 8 (10) - Adventure Island: The Beginning 9 (7) - Equilibrio 10 (8) - Bubble Bobble Plus! 11 (12) - Bomberman Blast 12 (11) - Defend Your Castle 13 (9) - Snowboard Riot 14 (N) - Crystal Defenders R1 15 (13) - Tetris Party 16 (16) - TV Show King 17 (14) - The Incredible Maze 18 (17) - FUN! FUN! Minigolf 19 (15) - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King 20 (18) - CueSports - Snooker vs. Billiards
The top 3 remain the same, Bit.Trip makes a well-deserved debut at 4, causing 3 titles to be shifted down a place each, Adventure Island following up with a 2-spot climb, the next 2 dropping 2 places each, with Bomberman Blast climbing 1 and Defend Your Castle dropping 1, Snowboard Riot shunted down 4 spots, Crystal Defenders entering at 14, Tetris down 2 but TV Show King is a non-mover, which can't be said for the 3-spot dropper The Incredible Maze, the 1-spot dropper FUN! FUN! Minigolf, the 4-spot dropper My Life as a King or CueSports which drops 2 but hangs on in there unlike LostWinds or Space Invaders which have both been kicked out of the top 20. End of sentence.
1 (1) - My Aquarium 2 (2) - Texas Hold'em Tournament 3 (3) - World of Goo 4 (5) - Onslaught 5 (8) - My Pokemon Ranch 6 (7) - Pop-Up Pirate! 7 (6) - Equilibrio 8 (4) - Bubble Bobble Plus! 9 (9) - Snowboard Riot 10 (N) - Adventure Island: The Beginning 11 (12) - Defend Your Castle 12 (10) - Bomberman Blast 13 (15) - Tetris Party 14 (11) - The Incredible Maze 15 (18) - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King 16 (13) - TV Show King 17 (14) - FUN! FUN! Minigolf 18 (17) - CueSports - Snooker vs. Billiards 19 (20) - Space Invaders Get Even 20 (N) - LostWinds
No sign of Crystal Bearers, but My Life As A King went up a few spots, and we lost Brain Challenge and Family & Friends Party to make room for Adventure Island and LostWinds.
1 (2) - My Aquarium 2 (1) - Texas Hold'em Tournament 3 (3) - World of Goo 4 (6) - Bubble Bobble Plus! 5 (4) - Onslaught 6 (10) - Equilibrio 7 (5) - Pop-Up Pirate! 8 (7) - My Pokemon Ranch 9 (8) - Snowboard Riot 10 (9) - Bomberman Blast 11 (11) - The Incredible Maze 12 (12) - Defend Your Castle 13 (13) - TV Show King 14 (14) - FUN! FUN! Minigolf 15 (15) - Tetris Party 16 (N) - Family & Friends Party 17 (18) - CueSports - Snooker vs. Billiards 18 (16) - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King 19 (19) - Brain Challenge 20 (20) - Space Invaders Get Even
Bubble Bobble and Equilibrio are proving to be pretty popular. Unfortunately Family & Friends Party has also wormed its way into the chart at the cost of a much better game: LostWinds.

@Chicken Brutus: A chapter takes about a minute to read, or you can flip through the pages in a matter of seconds, or you can just not go to the library at all. It's hardly trundling through a mass of text!
Re: Miyamoto Borking Super Mario Galaxy 2's Story
@theblackdragon: It could have. But it doesn't make a difference. She is a space princess who acts as a mother to cuddly adorable stars and has an observatory that she lets Mario use on his quest. It's suitably nonsensical for the nonsensical Mario canon!
Re: Miyamoto Borking Super Mario Galaxy 2's Story
@theblackdragon: Well, Mario did use her observatory to get to all the galaxies, and she did find him when he failed to stop Bowser kidnapping Peach in the first place, so I think she's going to have to be in the next game unless he does it by other means. Even so, I don't think she was ever intended to be essential. I mean, really, Princess Daisy doesn't do anything of import, but she turns up all the time unnecessarily
Re: Miyamoto Borking Super Mario Galaxy 2's Story
@theblackdragon: But given that they were introducing her as a brand new character it didn't hurt to tell us a little bit about her, cos otherwise she'd be this totally unknown character with no real meaning. It wouldn't really matter if they didn't do the same thing in the sequel, because she's an established character now. And it did explain why the Lumas followed Rosalina as well. So the story did have its uses!
Re: Miyamoto Borking Super Mario Galaxy 2's Story
People are talking as if the Rosalina story in Mario Galaxy was a major thing. It was just an aside that was meant as a backstory for her, not as an integral part of the game or anything. You didn't need to know anything about the story to understand the ending...
Re: Miyamoto Borking Super Mario Galaxy 2's Story
The Rosalina subplot in Galaxy was nice, though... Good accompaniment to the main story. It's not exactly like Galaxy was story driven, but rather complemented by the addition of one. And it's not like it bogged the game down in dialogue or anything. But it's the gameplay that matters, so assuming it'll be just as awesome as the first one, it's fine!
Re: Nintendo Download: Toasters, Rainbows, Catching, Calculators, Clocks and Harriers (US)
To the people annoyed that they didn't get Smash Bros: sure, Europe has gotten Majora's Mask and Smash Bros before America. But America has gotten plenty of big VC titles before us in the past. Like...
Super Metroid
NA: 20 Aug 07, EU: 12 Oct 07
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
NA: 22 Jan 07, EU: 23 Mar 07
Mario Golf
NA: 06 Oct 08, EU: 23 Jan 09...
Well those are a few examples. So just think of them when you're annoyed that we get a game first, and maybe it won't seem as unfair . And THEN look at RGVEDA's WiiWare list. We're positively starved!
Re: Molyneux: Nintendo Made Rare Too Secretive
Re: Molyneux: Nintendo Made Rare Too Secretive
I don't think there's any harm in a company being secretive. It means that they make a bigger impact when they unveil games and stuff, you know? Like, say, Other M. Companies would do well to learn from that. The Last Guardian could have been a much bigger deal had it not already been leaked. Secrecy is no bad thing!!
Re: Muramasa: The Demon Blade gets revised European release date
HOORAY. Really, the 2010 release date they had before was ridiculous. With any luck my Christmas will be filled with Muramasa and New Super Mario Bros goodness.
Re: Nintendo Download: Super Smash Bros., Cocoto, Asphalt and Sudoku (EU)
Less than a day and Super Smash Bros is already no. 16 on the VC download chart in the UK. I reckon it's going to be in the rankings for a good while.
Re: Nintendo Download: Super Smash Bros., Cocoto, Asphalt and Sudoku (EU)
Remember last year when North America got Brawl 3 months before we did? I think you win when it comes to Smash Bros release dates .
As for Earthbound, that was never released in Europe at all. It would be a wonder if we did see it eventually.

Re: Podcast: Episode 4 - E3 Spectacular
@pixelman: But Bowser's Inside Story was released ages ago, really they were just reaffirming that it's coming to the West soon. Whereas Golden Sun is a series we haven't seen for ages that nobody saw coming!
Nice podcast James, though I have to ask, do you like listening to it? I hate hearing my voice back on a recording!!
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (3rd June)
@Sean Aaron: You know, that hadn't even occurred to me. Really, it was just an attempt to plug the idea of Bit.Trip Fish.

Hello: No new entries. Fish'em All didn't break in.
Goodbye: No losses, but Tetris Party and CueSports are slipping.
Re: Golden Sun Coming to DS
I never quite finished The Lost Age. Love Golden Sun though, love it love it love it. I can't believe it actually got announced! Through the whole RPG bit I thought, ok, Crystal Bearers, Kingdom Hearts, maybe they'll show Dragon Quest IX? But when Reggie mentioned a game that we hadn't seen for 6 years, I thought... It can't be... And it was. .
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (27th May)
@Djungelurban
We were almost rid of TIM and everything! Clearly the nation thought it was more deserving of a purchase than, say, Tetris Party. Sigh!

Re: Review: Dragon Warrior Monsters (Game Boy)
Ooh, I have this. But the only thing I really remember about it is the copious amount of sirloin I picked up when wandering about...
Re: Groovin' Blocks Coming To Europe Soon
@LEGEND MARIOID Haha, no need to apologise! I forgive you, though .
I might consider buying it if it comes out for a budget price. If not, maybe once it comes down in price. But then I do that for most games anyway!
Re: Groovin' Blocks Coming To Europe Soon
@LEGEND MARIOID: Download it? It's not coming out for download in Europe.

Re: Nintendo Has No European ExciteBots Plans
"a release in Germany on the dump is."
Oh my!
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (13th May)
It's true! And here is the photographic evidence: see!
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (13th May)
"9. Harvest Moon: Show Me Your Nicely Cut Lawn!"
Haha... That's a brilliant title for a game.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (6th May)
The chart of everybody's favourite UK:
1 (1) - My Aquarium
2 (2) - Texas Hold'em Tournament
3 (3) - World of Goo
4 (N) - Bit.Trip Beat
5 (4) - Onslaught
6 (5) - My Pokemon Ranch
7 (6) - Pop-Up Pirate!
8 (10) - Adventure Island: The Beginning
9 (7) - Equilibrio
10 (8) - Bubble Bobble Plus!
11 (12) - Bomberman Blast
12 (11) - Defend Your Castle
13 (9) - Snowboard Riot
14 (N) - Crystal Defenders R1
15 (13) - Tetris Party
16 (16) - TV Show King
17 (14) - The Incredible Maze
18 (17) - FUN! FUN! Minigolf
19 (15) - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King
20 (18) - CueSports - Snooker vs.
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (29th Apr)
UK:
1 (1) - My Aquarium
2 (2) - Texas Hold'em Tournament
3 (3) - World of Goo
4 (5) - Onslaught
5 (8) - My Pokemon Ranch
6 (7) - Pop-Up Pirate!
7 (6) - Equilibrio
8 (4) - Bubble Bobble Plus!
9 (9) - Snowboard Riot
10 (N) - Adventure Island: The Beginning
11 (12) - Defend Your Castle
12 (10) - Bomberman Blast
13 (15) - Tetris Party
14 (11) - The Incredible Maze
15 (18) - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King
16 (13) - TV Show King
17 (14) - FUN! FUN! Minigolf
18 (17) - CueSports - Snooker vs. Billiards
19 (20) - Space Invaders Get Even
20 (N) - LostWinds
No sign of Crystal Bearers, but My Life As A King went up a few spots, and we lost Brain Challenge and Family & Friends Party to make room for Adventure Island and LostWinds.
P.S. Bit.Trip Fish sounds like a winning idea.
Re: Bit.Trip Beat Coming to Europe on Friday
Doesn't that mean WiiWare for two weeks in a row..?!
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (22nd Apr)
HELLO. UK chart ahoy:
1 (2) - My Aquarium
2 (1) - Texas Hold'em Tournament
3 (3) - World of Goo
4 (6) - Bubble Bobble Plus!
5 (4) - Onslaught
6 (10) - Equilibrio
7 (5) - Pop-Up Pirate!
8 (7) - My Pokemon Ranch
9 (8) - Snowboard Riot
10 (9) - Bomberman Blast
11 (11) - The Incredible Maze
12 (12) - Defend Your Castle
13 (13) - TV Show King
14 (14) - FUN! FUN! Minigolf
15 (15) - Tetris Party
16 (N) - Family & Friends Party
17 (18) - CueSports - Snooker vs. Billiards
18 (16) - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King
19 (19) - Brain Challenge
20 (20) - Space Invaders Get Even
Bubble Bobble and Equilibrio are proving to be pretty popular. Unfortunately Family & Friends Party has also wormed its way into the chart at the cost of a much better game: LostWinds.
