It's time to take a look at the most popular WiiWare titles available on the Wii Shop Channel. If you're feeling adventurous you can even take a look for yourself by simply logging on to your Wii Shop Channel, heading into the WiiWare section and then viewing "Popular Games". It's that easy!
We compile this list using the USA region Wii Shop channel, so if you live elsewhere your list will probably be quite a bit different. Please feel free to post your region's findings below as always.
Keep in mind that the list below is a measure of actual sales made recently, not of the total time the game has been available for sale.
Here is the list for the 8th of July:
1 - Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
2 (16) - Water Warfare
3 - Reel Fishing Challenge
4 - Texas Hold'em Tournament
5 (3) - My Aquarium
6 (4) - World of Goo
7 (7) - Family Mini Golf
8 (5) - Tetris Party
9 (6) - My Pokémon Ranch
10 (9) - Dr Mario Online Rx

17 (N) - BUST-A-MOVE Plus!
18 - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King
19 (17) - Bomberman Blast
20 (20) - Mega Man 9
* (N) - Denotes a brand new entry on the Top 20
* - Denotes a game that was not on the Top 20 last week
Well Final Fantasy IV: The After Years is holding strong at #1, but Water Warfare jumped up to the #2 spot and Reel Fishing Challenge just rocketed up to #3. Talk about a jump! This also drops My Aquarium and World of Goo down to #5 and #6 respectively, the lowest they've charted in many months.
The big climber this week was of course Reel Fishing Challenge, which jumped 17 spots from off the charts all the way up to #3. The biggest dropper this week was Eduardo the Samurai Toaster, which fell from #11 to off the chart completely in one week's time. Ouch! And it's worth mentioning that Fun! Fun! Minigolf and Sandy Beach also fell of the chart this week as well.
We did see three new entries this week, with BUST-A-MOVE Plus! making its debut in its week of release at #17. Of course there was the aforementioned Reel Fishing Challenge shooting up the charts and our good old friend Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King making a return to the Top 20 after one week on vacation.

WOW Reel Fishing Challenge and Water Warfare in the 2nd and 3rd places what a climber!

Talk about whoa.
How could My Aquarium be sliding! It's so epic.
Does DLC factor in? i.e. FFIV: TAY.
@JayArr
Pretty sure it doesn't since those sales doesn't go directly through the Wii Shop. No, FFIV is just popular and to be honest I'm slightly confused why anyone is surprised by this. It's a retro styled RPG named "Final Fantasy". Why wouldn't it be a thundering success?
It's funny, The After Years isn't nearly as popular here as it seems to be in America... UK:
1 (2) - My Aquarium
2 (8) - Water Warfare
3 (9) - Puzzle Bobble Plus!
4 (1) - NyxQuest: Kindred Spirits
5 (4) - Texas Hold’em Tournament
6 (3) - World of Goo
7 (N) - Gradius Rebirth
8 (6) - My Pokemon Ranch
9 (7) - Onslaught
10 (5) - Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
11 (10) - Pop-Up Pirate!

17 (20) - Tetris Party
18 (18) - BIT.TRIP BEAT
19 (19) - LostWinds
20 (16) - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life As A King
Up: My Aquarium, of course. Water Warfare and Puzzle Bobble Plus! are both up 6.
Down: WoG’s first movement in ages! It and NyxQuest are down 3. The After Years falls 5.
Hello: Gradius debuts at 7, Bit Boy at 12.
Goodbye: Let’s Catch and TV Show King, falling from 13 and 15 respectively.
A little sad that Bit Trip Core isn't on that list, but it's nice to see that Beat has some legs.
Lots of movement happening now, with three releases a week and some well-received ones in the mix. Shame Bit.Trip didn't appear yet, but I figure it w ill come in the next week.
As for Eduardo, it peaked at 8 during the week and tumbled as more releases hit. I think it may have passed Nintendo's threshold, but I think bad reviews killed any indie and interest-driven momentum it started. Hopefully the team learns and makes a cooler game next time around. A polished game with Eduardo's style would be sweet!
My Aquarium... GAH!
Whatever happened to World of Goo being at #1?
I got so used to that being a consistency. Does everyone own WoG now, or something? I'd better hop on the bandwagon.
@Rum Rapture
Haha, I KNEW MA wouldn't be pushed down for long. The fish fetish remains ever strong on the isles.
wow! water warfare jumped 14 places!
Thank goodness I used a Phoenix Down on FFCC:MLAAK.
WOAH! Water Warfare is number #2!? Well,it deserves to be up there!
Water Warfare is 2nd here also.
Reel Fishing is 4th/5th followed by (I think) Texas, then Family Mini Golf then Bust-A-Move Plus.
I'm impressed that Water Warfare is ahead of WoG and that Reel Fishing Challenge is so up there!
Also, Sandy Beach is finally off the charts over there. It's about time!
And poor Eduardo. It's not even on the Canadian charts anymore I don't think.
You can't keep fish out of the top 5! You just can't
At least there aren't two mini-golf games up there at once. It's nice to see Water Warfare up so high as well.
Hang in there Swords and Soldiers! I can see why Water Warfare is so high up. Its impossible to never find someone online.
Poor goo. 2DBoy better have a DSiWare ready!
Well, Water Warfare is number one here in Mexico, I just buy it and I have to say it is charming, I hope is as good as it seems.
@Objection_Blaster
I seriously LOLed with that one .
Its nice to see Water Warefare doing so well. At least World of Goo is still in the top 10. Now if only My Aquarium would go away.
Where's BT Core???
I hope it appears next week, it's an awesome hardcore retro game! ^^
I'm wondering if Brazil/South America has a top 20 different from USA, I'll go check out
o/
i guess nothing can topple the giant that is ff4 after years but holy poo ww at 2 and fishing game at 3 i never expected that
Water Warfare deserves to be number 2. Swords and soldiers deserves to be in the top 3, any one who doesn't get it is missing out.
Holy crap at Reel Fishing.
...I have all of FFIV:TAY that's been released. I've beaten the main game, Rydia and Yang's Tales, and am in the middle of Palom's Tale. :3
After taking a holiday from posting the Japanese numbers last week here they are (as of yesterday morning):
1. Pokemon Scramble
2. FFCC My Life as a Darklord
3. Asobu Made in Ore
4. Bang Bang Kids (Water Warfare)
5. Order!
6. My Pokemon Ranch Platinum
7. Pole's Big Adventure
8. Bomberman Blast
9. Game of Life
10. Muscle March
11. Rockman 9
12. FFCC My Life as a King
13. Minna no Theatre Wii
14. Okiraku Daifugoo Wii: Honkaku Wi-Fi Net Taisen
15. Licca-Chan Oshare House
16. Blue Oasis (My Aquarium)
17. Dr. Mario & Germ Buster
18. Shika Gari
19. World of Goo
20. Tetris Party
I'm impressed with how well Water Warfare seems to be doing in Japan, but Onslaught was in the top 10 for a couple of weeks before dropping to oblivion so it's too early to tell if this is a new trend or not. After a celebrity boost World of Goo looks like it's also headed south. Pole's Big Adventure continues to hang on in the top 10 and Muscle March is still in there as well.
Children's software seems to have winnowed, though I have a feeling Licca-Chan might be around for awhile. Virtual board game Game of Life seems to be an evergreen title as well.
Just for fun here's the Japanese VC top 20:
1. Super Mario Bros. (FC)
2. SMB3 (FC)
3. Downtown Special Kunio-Kun no Jidaigeki dayo Zenin Shuugoo (FC)
4. Final Fantasy II (FC)
5. Super Mario Kart (SFC)
6. Super Mario World (SFC)
7. Puyo Puyo 2 (MD)
8. Legend of Zelda Majora's Mask (N64)
9. SMB2 (FC)
10. Final Fantasy (FC)
11. Ice Climber (FC)
12. Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (N64)
13. Twinbee (FC)
14. Super Mario RPG (SFC)
15. Downtown Nekketsu Kooshinkyoku Soreyuku Daiundookai (FC)
16. Kirby's Dream Land 3 (SFC)
17. Splatterhouse (ARC)
18. Golden Axe (ARC)
19. Super Smash Bros. (N64)
20. Kirby's Adventure (FC)
No real surprises there; it's pretty much all Nintendo core titles, however I did find it interesting that Splatterhouse arcade and Golden Axe arcade both charted as well as Puyo Puyo 2's placement -- isn't a Wii version about ready to come out?
WW rising even in the US suggests that people buy it for more reasons than just having a substitute for The Conduit.
I think the lower performance of FF4 in Europe is because we didn't get FF4 back in the day so few people have played it and even fewer have nostalgia for it.
Anyway, on to the German charts:
(2) 1 My Aquarium
(4) 2 Water Warfare
(3) 3 Texas Hold'em Tournament
(1) 4 NyxQuest
(12) 5 Puzzle Bobble Plus
(6) 6 My Pokemon Ranch
(-) 7 Gradius Rebirth
(9) 8 Onslaught
(5) 9 World of Goo
(8) 10 TV Show King
(7) 11 Fun Fun Minigolf
(11) 12 FF4 The After Years
(14) 13 Tetris Party
(10) 14 Swords & Soldiers
(15) 15 Brain Challenge
(13) 16 Bomberman Blast
(-) 17 Bit Boy
(19) 18 Snowboard Riot
(20) 19 Equilibrio
(17) 20 Cocoto Platform Jumper
Today's Hasta La Vista, Baby awards go to: Let's Catch (16), Pop-Up Pirate (18).
I think the fall of WoG can really be attributed to falling sales instead of rising sales for the competition as MPR still outdid it (I think Onslaught did get a sales boost, it ranked a bit higher throughout the week). NyxQuest was #1 two days ago, #2 yesterday...
The Dutch list from 9-7:
1 (3) - Texas Hold'em Tournament
2 (2) - My Aquarium
3 (4) - Swords & Soldiers
4 (11) - Water Warfare
5 (5) - My Pokémon Ranch
6 (6) - TV Show King
7 (1) - NyxQuest: Kindred Sprits
8 (7) - World of Goo
9 (9) - Onslaught
10 (16) - Puzzle Bobble Plus!
11 (10) - Final Fantasy IV: The After Years
12 (8) - Brain Challenge
13 (13) - Tetris Party
14 (-) - Gradius Rebirth NEW
15 (-) - Bit Boy !! NEW
16 (-) - Mega Man 9
17 (20) - The Incredible Maze
18 (-) - Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King
19 (-) - Bomberman Blast
20 (17) - Snowboard Riot
No surprise, the Dutch people are still stupid . How can they drop NyxQuest from the first to the seventh place in favor for Texas Hold'em Tournament and My Aquarium. NyxQuest is de biggest faller this week (apart from the ones who left the list). With the warm weather in Holland last week, Water Warfare make a huge rise from the eleventh to the fourth spot and also Puzzle Bobble Plus! made a pretty big rise.
We welcome Gradius Rebirth (14) and Bit Boy !! (15) to WiiWare, which came out last week. We also say hello to a few older games.
We see the return of Mega Man 9 (16) that was released September 2008, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (18), that was a launch title for the WiiWare Channel and Bomberman Blast (19), that came out in September 2008 but fell of the list last week. It made a quick return.
With five new games in the top 20, we need to say goodbye to:
Europe! please do wii owners a a favor and buy the conduit
