The more frequently Resident Evil 0, 1 and 4 are included in these Capcom sales the better. The price increase over the PS4 versions was completely unjustified.
I was saddened by the conclusion of Splatfest events in Splatoon 2 because I expected them to continue for a while longer through the Switch’s lifespan, so I’m really excited to relive the competition where it all started in this game. Team Mayo always!
I hope these spirits boost interest in the game. I’m really looking forward to Trials of Mana, because Secret of Mana is a fantastic RPG and the sequel to it was never originally localised until the Collection of Mana last year. Just the fact we’re receiving a full remake of that game on top of that, is really intriguing to me and it almost feels like Square Enix going above and beyond. Heck, the remake looks so impressive that when it was initially unveiled I thought it was a new entry in the Mana series. I mean it pretty much has April to itself, so I hope it performs successfully.
Was all this planned? Because Nintendo is on fire with Switch updates today! We got Mario Maker 2, Tetris 99 and now this, all revealed within hours of each other. Great work!
@Pod Club Nintendo was fun while it lasted; I’m sorry you couldn’t experience the physical side of the service! I’m happy you can use gold points as eShop currency now, but it feels like you aren’t necessarily rewarded as much for your loyalty as you would like. The disappointing thing about CN being discontinued, was the fact that Nintendo was actually using the service in exciting and clever ways, with the Smash 3DS demo being given away early to some, the Smash 4 soundtrack CD for registering both versions of the game and Mewtwo being distributed for free before it released. I just wish My Nintendo could be as exciting today.
@RupeeClock I mean, the concept of using gold points as eShop currency was pretty appealing but the amount of credit you get for the purchases you make is rather lacking. You hit the nail on the head with the emphasis on mobile games; the issue there is that Nintendo’s mobile efforts either lose relevance shortly after launch or they are promptly discontinued (in the case of most Pokemon apps other than Go). Also I find it pretty weird that the discounts you can earn with points are all for Wii U and 3DS titles. 3DS is more understandable because Nintendo is still selling 2DS/XL systems and games for it, but they literally discontinued the Wii U before the Switch launched and said it was dead, so in 2020 who are those rewards benefitting? It’s kind of ironic that My Nintendo is pushed with the Switch when the majority of rewards and means of earning points are associated with Wii U, 3DS and mobile games.
I love Tetris 99 and all the new content we’ve been getting since launch with new modes and especially these themes. Considering how long ago the last themed event was and the last couple just giving away gold points, I was worried this would be it, but thankfully it’s not. Man, this game has transformed since launch...
@RupeeClock I think My Nintendo is especially underwhelming because we had Club Nintendo beforehand. Many of those physical rewards were so much cooler than printable pdfs and screensavers. Simply put, you were rewarded in a superior fashion for taking surveys and buying Nintendo products with items that fans would actually enjoy. I thought My Nintendo was heading in that direction somewhat with those Splatoon 2 posters and shirts for the last splatfest, but there hasn’t been too much beyond that disappointingly.
Happy Anniversary HAL, you’ve been such a fantastic studio and man do I still miss Iwata so much, RIP. Also, please could you guys get on that 3D Kirby game we all want so badly at some point, thanks.
The game coming to Switch is fantastic and it’s good that it seems to be releasing so soon when it just said 2020 in the Direct Mini, but the price tag is disgusting, especially when the remaster is permanently reduced to a price of £20 on PS4/Xbox One which is perfect. I think £30 or £35 would’ve been right for this game, but you know EA there’s always a catch with their Switch support, whether it’s disgusting, overpriced last-gen reskins of FIFA with no effort placed, or complaining about Switch owners every other Wednesday, I feel like there’s no reasoning with these guys. Let’s hope Crysis Remastered is great with Saber Interactive helping out.
@Dringo You mean the Skywalker Saga. To be fair that is the most hyped I’ve been for a LEGO game in years, it’s great how all 9 films are there in a single package
I’d like to see an original Star Wars project on Switch. These updated ports are great, but it would be great to see something new built from the ground up for Switch; I doubt we’ll see anything like that though due to EA’s iron grip on original games based on the property but I can dream.
Absolutely gorgeous. It seems Monolith Soft are really going all out with the remake, recreating the assets and even adding in cut content and an epilogue. I can’t wait.
God I’ve been dreaming of a Galaxy remaster ever since the Wii U was announced. Praying this means that Galaxy 2 is also on the table for similar treatment. This rumour sounds too good to be true. I’d love remasters of 64 and Sunshine as well; all of these games are just so dear to my heart. If this is confirmed to be legit, this could be the greatest anniversary celebration Nintendo has ever organised to date!
I want Splatoon 3 as much as the next guy, because I love the series. But I’m just not one that thinks Splatoon 3 will come to the switch anytime soon, I’m not even sure there’ll be another entry until Nintendo’s next system rolls around. The timing just doesn’t feel right.
@RPGamer I don’t think BBHD is a bad game but it is just so strange that Sega decided to remake it over 1+2, and I hate how they’re effectively holding remakes of those games hostage based on the success of this game. Replaying it left me feeling quite empty and it just can’t compare to the Gamecube games. The shallow party games in the remake are a far cry from the proper versions of monkey target, monkey bowling etc. But I agree with you, we need monkey ball 1+2 remade right now!
@arrmixer Please do it’s an absolutely fantastic 3D platformer that seamlessly incorporates Pac-Man staples into its gameplay mechanics and it’s full of charm and variety.
@sixrings It would be neat to see Soulcalibur back in the modern day and I think we need another Ridge Racer or a remake because the arcade style of racing games has been disappointingly absent in recent years
@Not_Soos That’s a tricky question, because World 2 has so many memorable levels and set pieces for me. I haven’t played it in a while, but if I had to pick, I’d probably say the B-Doing woods; the whole B-Doing mechanic was so fun and naturally introduced and it was steadily developed throughout the level and the whole game, it just speaks to the quality of the game, they took a simple concept like trampolines and explored it to its fullest potential. But I love the moody atmosphere of the Haunted Boardwalk, there was a surprising amount of variety to Avalanche Alley considering snow levels don’t bolster the greatest smorgasbord of ideas in my opinion. Even the opening level is really charming, acting as a very effective tutorial for Pac-Man’s abilities and my jaw dropped when I first returned to it and discovered you could play Namco arcade games there, since they’re so fun and addictive, so other than the game just being great, they acted as a great incentive to keep playing.
I also love the level variety, you never know where you’ll be going next and the small details of collectibles referencing Galaxian and the like were awesome.
I’m a huge fan of Namco Museum as well. What’s your favourite version of Museum and what do you think of the Switch version? Mine is probably 50th anniversary because the cream of the crop of Namco’s arcade line up is pretty much all represented and I found the Switch version’s game selection to be interesting with more obscure titles like Galaga ‘88 being included, but I think other versions are better.
Well, whatever Bandai Namco has decided on, let’s hope their choice won’t be as tone deaf as Sega deciding to resurrect Banana Blitz for a remake. I’m concerned new players to the series picked that game up and scratched their heads, wondering what the fuss was about and they probably aren’t interested in having anything more to do with the series. Oh Sega, please remove the shackles from 1 + 2 in your basement, call off the ransom and give them to us...
@Not_Soos We can only hope man, World 2 was amazing and it would be great to see another 3D platformer in the contemporary gaming landscape. While I adore the championship edition games and would appreciate a sequel, it would be nice to see Bandai Namco do something more with the Pac-Man IP. I love the original arcade classics and the ports to modern platforms, but a World 2 remake may act as a litmus test to see if future installments are desired: the World series had so much potential and I’d really like for a new generation to experience the joy we derived from it.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate for its first anniversary. I can vividly remember my first time playing the game and it’s somehow been a year! I’ve loved the game so far and I can’t wait to find out what’s next for this absolute masterpiece.
It’s a shame that Pine didn’t turn out too well, I remember seeing it in a Nindies presentation and being pretty impressed by the project. There seemed to be a decent scope to the game.
It’s great to see that such a charming and fun title has seen this level of success. I’ll be interested to find out what House House works on next; maybe a sequel to Untitled Goose Game or something totally new and equally bizarre in premise. I feel like this studio has a bright future ahead of them in the world of game development.
@Lalivero I agree with your suggestion on pricing. Cutting the price could’ve made the game stand out more than it does right now. I also agree with @Kainbrightside Daemon X Machina has potential for expansion upon its world, mechanics and concept. But at this rate, we might not be getting a sequel; depends on how lofty Marvelous’ expectations are sales wise, I’m sure they’re not like EA expecting a skeleton of a FIFA game to sell like hot cakes on Switch, but maybe they’re expecting a modest success at least.
Disappointing, but not entirely unexpected. Was this that Contra game that was teased back in 2011? If so, maybe development troubles could be a part of why this game turned out badly.
@Ludovsky it’s good to hear that. I guess it hasn’t been completely buried so far on the digital end, but I feel like the prospect of DXM being forgotten is something of an inevitability with Dragon Quest XI S, Luigi’s Mansion 3, Sword and Shield, third party titles and even Mario and Sonic on the horizon. If what I’m saying is the case then it’s a crying shame because Marvelous is a talented developer and they’ve put a lot of effort and love into a project that may have come out at the worst possible time. Backing up what you said though, the special ‘orbital edition’ of the game featuring some physical items like an arsenal statue, did sell out on Nintendo’s store back in July when it first became available to pre order, but that may just be due to collectors snapping up a limited edition version of the game, or the fact that the package was initially available in limited quantities; also the orbital edition was in stock at major retailers the last time I checked, you’d think it would’ve sold out by now, but perhaps that’s a testament to the potential failure of DXM, at least physically.

And believe me, they responded to a hefty amount of criticism, like all sorts of features relating to visibility of enemies, sound effects, visuals, abilities and more were changed, because we complained about them; I haven’t seen many games do such a thing recently, it’s kind of amazing if you think about it. If I were them, I would’ve released the game right before the middle of October or around then, so that people would’ve had time to enjoy Link’s Awakening and Dragon Quest (well maybe not DQ fully considering it’s sheer size, but it’s a tight schedule on Switch for the rest of this year) and had enough time to play this game, before Luigi’s Mansion, Pokemon and Mario and Sonic come out. Also, other than the confusing reveal, announcing the game later could’ve helped the interest in this game rise. Since they announced the game over a year before it was ready, it showed up in four more directs afterwards, and people were just fed up and tired of seeing it. With all that in mind, I’ll be intrigued to see any sales figures for DXM in the near future. I hope that the game didn’t completely bomb, but I have an inkling that it hasn’t moved units quickly considering the circumstances. Maybe these new spirits will make the game more successful, but such a promotion might be too little, too late with how many games are releasing in late Q3 and Q4 for Nintendo Switch.
