Okay, I need a 3DS. Apart from the great graphics, my all time favorite Bulbasaur makes this game a must buy! ^^ Luckily, the Mega Evolutions are quite nice, too. Not too over the top.
What I find fascinating about the 2DS: There was no leak of any kind, not even the slightest rumours, as far as I remember, although the release date was so near. Quite impressive nowadays.
Although I enjoyed it and I think it's a very good game, I think it's one of the weakest entries in the series. Just recently I attempted a second play through, but didn't come back after the third or so dungeon, simply because of boredom.
My favorite Zelda game overall would be MM, followed by Link's Awakening and perhaps OoT. However, when taking into account the date of its original release and the capabilities of the platform it was released on, LA would not only be my number 1 Zelda game, but also my number 1 video game ever.
Well, it's really nice it's finally coming. Personally I'm not interested in buying it, but it's nice to see that Nintendo actually cares about releasing all the titles it can, especially as the line up isn't too great in numbers.
That. Is. Weird. I can understand the wish to release a cheaper version of the 3DS and not having 3D might even be attract some buyers, but the decision to drop the folding mechanism for, well, this, is rather weird after all. For me, the 3DS is still too expensive, the reason why I don't own one, and the price here is certainly attractive, but all in all there's still no hardware configuration which would satisfy me. However, the 2DS could make way for yet another, hopefully better 3DS update.
As a sidenote, maybe Nintendo sees this as an experiment for a non-foldable one-scree handheld in the future. You could image having just one screen on it, rather than one that is essentially split into two. This would fit the rumours that Nintendo's next console might be a true gaming tabled aimed at unifying handheld and home consoles.
Anyhow, as far as the design of this thing is concerned. Well, it's certainly low budged and aimed at younger players, but I still have the feeling that something is going wrong in Nintendo's hardware design department. While DS Lite, Wii and DSi were great looking pieces of hardware (although of course heavily inspired by the Apple style back then), 3DS and Wii U came along decently but without any vision. But since the Wii Mini, 3DS XL and 2DS, it looks as if Nintendo let go its designers completely.
No VC release on the WiiU? But at least there are two great new games, Duck Tales and Pokemon. I'm interested in both and unfortunately they aren't cheap. In both cases I'll wait for some reviews, thinking that both will be "good", but being not sure if any might be "great"... And Duck Tales will certainly get a discount some day. Not sure if this is gonna happen for a First Party Title like Pokemon.
Wow, that art style looks pretty amazing. Bit like a retro mix between Japanese sci-fi aesthetics of the 70s/80s and socialist sci-fi. Hope it'll reach the goal and come to the WiiU. If the gameplay is half as good, that'll be a must buy!
Strong weeks continue... Nice to see RotTK arriving in Europe this time, as on the Wii VC it didn't... However, interesting as it may be, I don't think I'd have time to work my way into this game, so I rather safe the money. Haven't even sufficiently played Ogre Battle 64 yet... What would make me really happy though, would be a release of the new Wii U version of RottK. It looks amazing... (
Galaga, well... Missing the TG-16 here, as Galaga '90s is great! One of my most played shoot 'em ups.
In some aspects it's one of my favorite games ever, but then again it has some considerable flaws, i.e. the last chapter in particular. Could have been perfect, but as it is it's a 9/10, I completely agree.
Perhaps the best game Rareware ever released. Well..., there's Perfect Dark too... So I'd rather say, the best solo experience they ever created. The multiplayer is fun too, but eventually that's were PD is superior. Hoping for a review! )
at Caryslan: One should keep in mind that the buyer doesn't necessarily need to be a video game company at all. I bet a lot of those 20 something interested parties aren't big game companies. As the article says, SEGA (which together with Sammy is in itself not a pure video game company) is interested in buying Atlus' parent company. Other – most likely exclusively Japanese – companies might be interested in that as well. They could also be acquired by some TV or electronics company who wishes to extend its portfolio to video games. In that case, the balance of power in the games sector may not change at all. It was a similar situation when about 10 years ago, SEGA did not fuse with Namco, as it was often reported at that time, but instead SEGA fused with Sammy and Namco with Bandai.
I always found a purchase by Nintendo unlikely, although it would make sense and I'd welcome it, but it just doesn't fit Nintendo's attitude. As far as I remember, they never bought a whole company, only smaller studios. But anyway, a purchase by SEGA certainly wouldn't be the worst thing that could happen. And it's nice to see that SEGA (with Sammy, of course), after years of struggle and near ruin, is actually in the position to perform such a acquisition. As the relationship between Nintendo and SEGA is good, an Atlus belonging to SEGA would most likely maintain its great support for Nintendo consoles, so no disadvantage for a Nintendo-players perspective. At the same time, SEGA would become a lot more important, i.e. relative to other Japanese companies as well as Western ones. After all, it's more of a minor player at the moment, and Atlus titles could sell much better if the marketing is good. One has to see who will eventually acquire them, but if it is one of the larger video game companies, like Nintendo, SEGA, whoever, the whole affair could actually boost Atlus' position from one underground developer to one who receives the attention it deserves.
at Inquisitor: Well, it's not nice, but personally I won't miss it and as regards the sales of the game, a simultaneous release certainly has its advantages. If Ubisoft really wants to, they could still add this mode by means of a patch like 1 or 2 months later. Then those who are interested in the mode could have the "complete" game at the same time as if it had been released later in the first place, while everyone is still able to play the rest of the game on time. The question is, if Ubisoft will care about adding the offline co-op mode, especially if the sales disappoint...
Never liked any of the Turok titles, although I would try out Turok 3 if it'd get a VC release (which of course is extremely unlikely, God knows who's got the right of those games). The only part of the series I actually owned myself was Rage Wars, because I got it very cheap, and I rather enjoyed it, because it was simple, straightforward fun and action with very decent graphics. I could never convince anybody to play the multiplayer for more than 30 minutes, though, because we were all into Perfect Dark already (and that the German version of Rage Wars had been deprived of all blood and gore didn't quite add to its appeal either), but I played the single player quite a lot... As regards the other titles in the original series, there was simply too little action for me, I hardly considered it an first person shooter at all. In my opinion, the games are even more a first person adventure than the Metroid Prime trilogy is... ^^ I enjoyed entering the cheats and shooting around with some of the amazing super weapons, though.
Played Turok Evolution on the GCN too. Weird game. Great fun at times, but the most annoying flaws at others. And the weapon's weren't half as cool.
Given that the WiiU version of the game doesn't exhibit any considerable flaws, I will definitively get this, although I'm not a fan of the series at all. But it should be appreciated that Ubisoft brought this game in time and complete, and the WiiU exclusive features seem nice likewise. Reminds me a bit of the GBA-connectivity of the GCN-Splinter Cells. In fact, I could never imagine how anyone could conveniently play them without the little map on the GBA screen... ^^ However, the game won't be a day-one-purchase for me, simply because the The Wonderful 101 has rightful priority, but also because my past experience with Ubisoft games, good as they may be, has taught me that it's better to wait half a year before buying. So after 101 I may opt for Deus Ex instead, as it's a budget release anyway and deserves the support at least as much as SC does.
Well, one can really be satisfied with the WiiU eShop in the past couple of weeks. Harvest Moon in especial is a great release, but I have it on my Wii VC already. If only this time they'd release Harvest Moon 64... Imo the best entry in the series, but I could always only play it on an emulator, as it wasn't released in Europe.
Good thing. One should be happy that they were able to do this. In times of trouble, Vivendi would have been no big help either, while in good times it was just a burden being attached to them, costing both money and freedom. It's good to have a large games company independent from a major media conglomerate.
Doma: "Iwata has a 100 billion yen operating income target to reach by next April". I don't remember precisely if he promised a 100 billion operating income, but if he did, this would not stand in the way of an acquisition of Atlus, as expenditures of that kind would most likely be accounted as non-operating expenses. Besides, Nintendo would clearly gain something from such an acquisition, so it's not as if the money would simply be "lost". In other words, Nintendo would be an equally valuable company afterwards.
Played the first Arcade MK only once on a ferry across the Channel, then never saw it again anyway. Was okay, but not amazing. However, this one looks pretty great, I've got to say. And much more fun than MK7, which is one of the most boring entries in the series, in my opinion. But then again, I didn't play that a lot either.
The Conclusion sounds a bit..., "boring", haha. But as pretty much every other review confirms, this seems to be an amazing game and I'm looking forward to "pik" it up (well, that was good one) soon. That is, the day after tomorrow, presuming that Media Markt / Saturn in Germany will have it in their shelves from Thursday evening as it's usually the case. I understand that many were craving for new titles from Nintendo in recent months, but personally I very much appreciate that Nintendo is still valuing the quality of a game higher than purely economic interests. At the E3 last year, this merely seemed a good sequel, like Pikmin 2, but by now it seems a truly amazing game to me. I also appreciate that Nintendo seems to have focused on creating unique experiences throughout, rather than prolonging the play time as it was done in Pikmin 2, which, due to this fact, I never quite finished, it just got boring in comparison to the original. Yet still I'm even more looking forward to the Wonderful 101 and I still wished this would have been released first...
I'd say that irrespective of the overall success of the WiiU, Pikmin 3 could very well surpass the sales of its predecessors. It certainly seems more refined and more extensive than the original, which at its time was a completely new franchise, whereas Pikmin 3 – due to the lack of other great titles – received a great lot of attention in the past months. But perhaps even more importantly, Nintendo's release and sequel policy has changed since the GCN era. Whereas Pikmin 1 received its straightforward sequel rather early and at least as far as sales were concerned was thereupon quickly forgotten, experience from the Wii era tells us that Pikmin 3 might very well remain the series' only installment on the Wii U while enjoying promotion and some degree of constant sales for years.
Does this mean it's Nintendo-exklusive, then? In any case, I might be interested in that, preferring an original setting like in Undercover over that of Batman, etc.
at Dizzy_boy: Well, I am pretty this is how it'll be. Everything else would be rather pointless...
As to the the topic and as DePapier already pointed out, in the Nintendo Direct in February or something (or in a statement directly after, I am not exactly sure), Iwata explicitly said that Miiverse will be a browser-based app in the beginning. This has the advantage that it should also be accessible from any computer, not just smartphones. But he also said that they plan to make it available as a proper app later. I wouldnt bet that the latter happens all too quickly and I am pretty sure that we need to use a browser for some while.
This and Fire Emblem..., well, I guess I need to get a 3DS sooner or later. It's amazing what quality Nintendo achieves in recent years. If even their handheld games are that great, I wonder how good the first really big WiiU titles will be. But I am still not satisfied with the 3DS-Hardware and moreover busy enough with my WiiU. So it needs to wait a little longer, I guess...
My problem are really just the prices for the games. So far I only own Nintendoland, which was bundled, AC3 – which due to its production value and enormous size seemed worth the 55€ – and the reasonable priced NanoAssault Neo. Now I'd LOVE to play Tekken, Mario Bros and ZombiU. But there is no way that I pay more than 50€ for a video game that is not really extraordinary. After all, Tekken is just a straightforward B'emU and has dropped to 40€ on the other consoles moreover. ZombiU is tricky, me not being quite sure how good it is. I definitively want to try it, but rather not take the risk to pay more than 40€. And Super Mario: however great it might be, it's just a relatively "cheap" First-Party-Game. 40€ would be a proper price for that, but nothing more. Even the third-party Rayman is currently priced at just 50€. In addition to the games I just mentioned, there are a couple more which I would only buy for a budget of 20 or 30 €, depending on the game. Like Sonic, CoD, probably even Batman, Darksiders, Mass Effect... So, there is really a lot out there, and much more to come in early 2012, but not for the current prices.
It was always among the reasons why I preferred the Wii because the games were at a reasonable prize, on average at least 10€ cheaper than on other consoles. As long as the prices for some WiiU games dont drop, I'll stick with some of my leftover Wii titles. Besides, the eShop prices are generally too high, too.
