@KazooieTooie Part of the beauty about the switch software is the ability to scale between resolutions and frame-rates. I feel confident that better performing hardware won't lock people--with older hardware--out of newer titles.
@Snakesglowcaps Gameplay could be interesting, but not something you couldn't do if Links soul was split into two... I think empathy is important in Zelda games--changing characters reduces that. Majora's mask got around this with the masks. Which was very effective, especially because the characters you take the mask of die--sad.
@Ludovsky I understand, but there are heaps of ways to write a reset in. To me it looks like calamity has corrupted one of the caretakers of the shrines (I don't know what they are called). Perhaps there is the ability to suck spirit orbs out of Link?
In all I guess I'm not that zealous to not play as Zelda, but I'm not into swapping characters. If you will play as both characters, it will make it harder to develop emotional attachments. I'm stoked if Zelda is part of the puzzles and gameplay, and perhaps welcome coop elements.
Also, Zelda being weakened gives every more reason to want to play as link so that you need to protect her. Perhaps for once it will be about powering her up, and not Link. All the while, never playing as her.
@ImprobableToast I hope we never play as Zelda. I just feel it will take away from the emersion. Overtime don't you feel like you are living in the game as or through link? I fear swapping characters will break that bond.
@Gridatttack it's marketing. It will keep people connected to service and give media outlets like Nintendolife something to write about every week/month
@Cathousemaster I agree, Nintendo has many cards to play--and there is no rush for them to reveal them all. I think it is funny that having the biggest game at the moment--Fortnite--isn't satisfying.
@BulkSlash There is good reason to have a slower second year--Nintendo are waiting for people to buy into the switch. As people can only afford a few games when they buy into a console, I'm sure it is a good thing they (Nintendo) aren't competing against them-self. I think Nintendo have a really good marketing strategy--they leave us hanging, and so chat rooms go crazy with hopes and dreams. They'll have another Nintendo Direct later in the year--our disappointments today, will become expectations then. Rumours and speculation will all play into their model.
@KTT Which country are you from? Where I live a barbie is an apparatus for cooking--typically out doors. At launch, Nintendo's rrp for Mario Odyssey was $79, but at Big W (similar to target or wall-mart) they sold it for $62.
@Paraka You are right. Parents do want to encourage more active and creative play. Even if the parents are gamers themselves, no-one wants to produce a gaming zombie of a kid (you know the ones that go crossed eyed and need glasses prematurely because they stare to closely at their personal iPad?). I agree that the importance of this innovation is not this iteration but how other people will run with the concept and perfect it. This is as much as a stimulus to developers and creative minds as it is a generator of revenue.
I'm hoping that Korg (a keyboard and musical instrument company) has seen this, and will release an app on the switch like they did for the DS.
@Mqblank In the kids market, Nintendo isn't competing with Sony or XBOX. They are combating mobile and tablet gaming. You are right, this will be great for the gaming industry. Kids grow up. Most of us are Nintendo fans because it made an impact on our childhood. Nintendo is thinking years ahead here.
@thewoosp Haha. Yes I have a terrible load out. You would think that it would be possible to win the target game with the stock arms--certainly not the case for me. Thanks for the tips.
I tried to get into the game again on 4.0's release. Before that I got stuck on break the target stage playing against Barq and Byte. Opened it up again--still stuck on the target mini game--
@roadrunner343 @KirbyTheVampire You two must have similar browsing times--#57 and #58.Thanks for your replies.
In any sense, there is no point in me thinking that far ahead. The switch does all that I need it for. Though I can't wait for more details on Nintendo Online--and for some info on my most hyped game: Morphies Law.
@roadrunner343 @KirbyTheVampire Can you imagine Nintendo at 3 or 4 years updating the hardware to win more third party support/parity? Same controllers and all, just faster processing (when it's cheaper to do so aswell). Same as the 3DS has done, grow the user base and brand, while progessing the tech capabilities.
@tebunker I can't imagine this app getting approval. The only economic advantage would be the Switch units sold to people who would have never bought the unit without the Rainway app. Then there is all the money lost from licensing. The only way I could see it getting off the ground is if, per game, you had to pay a small fee.
Such an app would make the Switch a power house--but ultimately Nintendo would suffer.
@BlackenedHalo I associate the 'best part' of the game--the end-game that you mentioned--with the difficulty of the quests. The content after the story is relatively more challenging--that's why I think it wasn't available from the get go, and why I would suggest it was a decision oriented towards making the game accessible to people of different skill levels. However I would also think giving purpose to revisit each kingdom is a fantastic motivation for the staged release of the content. The Wooded Kingdom post Bowser is gorgeous. But I agree with you, the game for me was an underwhelming breeze through up until the ruined kingdom. Once there. this game went next level and has done nothing but slap me around with cool level design and nostalgic throw backs. It's a great game!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Yes, the dust has no where near settled. I imagine very few people commenting have even finished the final stage (beyond the Bowser arch, of which I have died maybe 50 times and still haven't completed it). My opinion of this game has grown on me hugely. It was too easy at the start, but where I am now is just amazing and easily contends with the vibe I had when playing SM64.
On another note--to be fair I have never played doom either--but from the footage I have seen, I am concerned that contrast/lighting will be the biggest game-play affecting issue. I would think those dark and red environments will be hard to see when playing handheld during the daytime. What do you reckon?
@DJKeens What a fair display of class and rationality in the face of antagonistic comments. @jimi I respect your comments too, the frames-per-second discussion is pertinent in many ways--but I also can't stand statements that sub-60fps game play is unplayable. It's like saying pineapple pizzas are inedible; when in fact, separate to personal preference, it's very possible to eat a pineapple pizza.
@TheMisterManGuy I hope moore's law will play a role in reducing publishing costs for games into the future. Who knows--it might become more cost effective to use cards. That is if game developers care to contain their game on a single storage device.
@Tops My understanding is that you don't interact with players live.
Just like crowd funding, you reach milestones by contributing to a levels completion. Each level should get easier the more people have attempted to complete each level--i.e. you can resurrect them as spirit fighters, and they will make it easier fighting as NPC's.
I want to see a true 3D sonic game (without the werehog). One perhaps where you can see the map and have to race and collect as many coins without a time frame scenario (you could race against a boss, or a friend), taking advantage of momentum, route selection and reflex motor controls--wait, maybe like the reverse of splatoon. Where all the coins are there, and it's up to you to race with your team to collect the coins first--while fighting them off mauling more coins in the process.

@PLAYwithGregg @rjejr Yes. Considering if you didn't read the joycons / switch logo as an on 'Nintendo' Line.
Now i'm thinking about pronouncing it like the instrument, Mandoline. 'Nintendoline'.

Re: Hands On: The Future Of Gaming Is Cardboard, Thanks To Nintendo Labo
@KTT I agree. It could be cheaper. But really it is a similar price to 1-2 Switch. At least they're consistent.
Thought: retail stores like target will probably sell it cheaper than the listed price.
