@WhiteTrashGuy - This is the first time I've heard of it for $39.99 with Amazon Prime - just verified and wow ... it is! Now if Amazon would just bundle it...
I will definitely buy a Switch, and I definitely want 1-2-Switch. But I want 1-2-Switch as the pack-in or for $30 or less. At $20, I think that almost everyone would have purchased it. Free-to-Start is a great idea; but also 'very cheap compared to the other choices' is a good idea too.
I have 5 kids and we still play Nintendoland, Super Mario 3D World and other 4 player games together. The charm is still there. When I buy the Switch, the kids will be shifting their attention to it and as it is, there's nothing in place to accommodate a family game night on release. I'm not even sure if the kids are going to care too much about MK8 Deluxe... we already have MK8 with 4 controllers ... and $60 to basically have 'DLC' (Battle Mode) is a hard pill to swallow.
I can't wait until the Switch is better positioned for us, because I want it! I just need to wait until it's more worthwhile than a Wii U If all I want is Zelda ... then what's the point?
Personally, I think that Capcom should be looking at this and then spending the day playing it in-house.
They do not seem to have any current strategy for this IP and if the way they handled Street Fighter x Mega Man fan project is any indicator - these fan games are viewed as complimentary to their IP's strength.
If Mii creation is now in System Settings, I wonder if there will be the ability to create Miis while in-game.
I do not see any reason for Nintendo to discontinue Miis as they are a favorite staple in Smash Bros and Mario Kart, not to mention that Miitomo is still being actively promoted and it was my understanding that Miitomo was an essential part of Nintendo's mobile platform as Miis and Nintendo accounts would be used by all mobile games.
I like Miis. My family has a lot more fun with them than makes sense. My kids have created some rather silly ones and they cheer whenever they show up in the crowd on party games and often will play as them in other Mii-enabled games as a gag.
Not including a pack-in game to keep cost down is a made up problem. It will cost Nintendo more in PR to not include 1-2-Switch. Stupid. They have scared away a lot of people due to pricing.
@wickedvillager Since pre-orders are already available for MK8 Deluxe, it's a bit late to offer an upgrade deal.
IMHO, the #1 goal of Nintendo right now should be establishing a massive userbase for Switch. Giving away games, upgrades and all of that would accomplish this - which would help their stock value, which would do more than nickel and diming the gamers by NOT including a title and making everyone feel awkward about their purchasing decisions.
Nice that Reggie acknowledges the issue — but considering that they are already accepting pre-orders and money is already being spent — any last minute additions (like changing their mind about 1-2-Switch being a pack-in, which it obviously was created to be one) would be silly.
At this point, all information about what to expect on day one and for the first few months should be available including notable omissions such as whether Netflix and other services will be available.
If there's more to Switch than we are seeing right now - they should include a notice on their website that clearly states — "Additional features and suprises to be announced soon!"
I do not think it's too late for them to create a pack-in game. Can't do 1-2-Switch now as [weird] people have likely pre-ordered it already.
Personally, I think that 1-2-Switch should have been included with all units and there should be a digital download available for a choice of 1 of 4 games — Mario Maker Switch (yes, I know it doesn't 'exist'), Zelda, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Arms.
This could have optionally been a $350 Deluxe version. 2 games for an extra $50? Makes a day one purchase feel a lot better.
If there were upgrade options available — 40% off MK8 Deluxe if you already own MK8 + Both DLC, I'd buy. 20% off if you don't have the DLC - I'd buy. If Zelda was cross-buy, this would be fantastic too — especially if the Switch version had exclusive features.
And ... why wasn't the new Shantae game announced for Switch? If they were looking to pad their release list with obvious games, this one would have been obvious. There's no way that Wayforward aren't going to re-release their library for Switch.
Was planning a day one purchase with Zelda. The lack of a pack-in game to keep the interest of my kids and the cost of extra joy-cons is making me a day one purchase of Zelda Wii U alone.
Switch should have launched with 3 different bundles - one with Super Mario Maker, one with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and one with Zelda. All 3 should have also included 1-2-Switch.
As it stands, 3 of the launch titles are available on Wii U. I'm going to day one Zelda BOTW Wii U, not Switch. I -love- my Wii U and can easily say it's my favorite console I've ever owned. I have a full library of games and nothing I'm seeing for Switch couldn't have been made for Wii U.
I'm a bit disappointed. It's all about the games, right Nintendo? You guys forgot to get the games ready for the launch. I think BOTW should have been cancelled on Wii U last year to add some incentive to purchasing Switch.
I vote for Xenoblade Chronicles in HD. I logged 140 hours on the Wii, I cringed at the lower resolution 3DS port, and I played it on Dolphin + SteamLink and was blown away by how detailed the character models actually were when rendered in higher resolution (just check YouTube). If there's a system that is worth revisiting Wii games in HD, it's NX.
As a sidenote, this is the time for Nintendo to ramp up the HD remasters — starting with a Mario Galaxy 1+2 pack with bonus content. It's time to re-release the Metroid Prime Trilogy that was on the Wii - but this time in HD.
Oh, and a last comment - Dr. Mario should be a release eShop title. But instead of Dr. Luigi, it should we should let the girls be doctors. Peach, Rosalina and Daisy. Time to pass the baton.
1st, I doubt Nintendo filed the takedown. They retain lawyers who do the job of protecting their IPs for them so that they don't even need to be involved. As another user said above, in order to maintain their copyrights, it's necessary.
Now, this doesn't rule out that Nintendo COULD contact the author POST-Take-Down if they want to. In this case, it would be wonderful if NintendoLife and other blogs would continue covering AM2R, reviewing it, posting that they would love to have Nintendo actually acknowledge the merits of the game, etc, and have tons of fan petitions for it to become an actual eShop release.
Capcom celebrated a Mega Man anniversary by releasing a community fan game with official endorsement (Mega Man vs Street Fighter). Sonic Team, as mentioned above, celebrates fan remakes - Christian Whitehead is now a valued Sonic developer.
My only other thought is that the AM2R developer may have weighed in that the quality of his remake would merit a fork wherein all Nintendo IP would be replaced with original graphics and adjustments made to the maps and it be released as a separate 'spiritual' sequel to Metroid 2. This is sort of the story of Freedom Planet which was a fan Sonic game ... and the story of a lot of games that take inspiration.
Has anyone considered the idea that the handheld portion has the Nvidia Tegra X2 and the "Docking Station" component that hooks up to the TV has a Next Generation Graphics Card also by Nvidia? With PC games, we have seen how the same game is greatly enhanced by higher end specs. Imagine that Breath of the Wild on the portable looks >= Wii U, but when in console mode, it adds shaders for effects and comes out in 4K?
The rumors may be true, but it doesn't mean that they are complete.
$15 = Instant Purchase for Kids. $30 = Mixed emotions. We already have it for PS3, iOS, Android and PC. I have 5 kids... all versions get used... we were always hoping for this one because we have 4 controllers and Wii U is overall the best experience for us.... this is a bit of a $ bummer. Hope that changes.
If the point of Black Friday / Cyber Monday is to make $$$ ... Nintendo might have wanted to have a better sale. Even offering 10% off of Splatoon, Yoshi's Wooly World, and other new titles would have been a huge stimulus for their sales and would have scored a few purchases from me. I already have Captain Toad, Donkey Kong, Rayman, etc... I was hoping to get Splatoon for maybe $40 so that I don't have to get a disc copy on Black Friday from Walmart or Target...
I absolutely LOVE this. I had many of these Game and Watches when I was kid. I love how they felt in one's hands and they were suprisingly fun — much better than the little cheapy plastic Tiger games. Especially loved Super Mario Brothers, Rainshower, Donkey Kong and Bombsweeper ... so many great Game and Watches. That case is amazing. However... I don't have or plan to own a 3DS — portable systems are my kids' domain. Wii U is mine!
I'm pretty sure that the NX is going to be a platform for universal apps that will run on 3DS, Wii U, Apple TV, iPad and other devices... goes along with the app development deal and stating that NX is a new platform that does not replace either existing ones. Whatever this thing is... perhaps it's a co-branded device that is optimized to access NX content and one of the first licensed NX devices.
Title of article is click bait. Nintendo will be heavily promoting its already strong line-up including selling systems with enticing pack-ins and promoting the value of its existing titles. I'm not sure that Star Fox Zero was for everyone, whereas those who don't already own Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, Mario Maker, Smash Bros, and other great titles might be asking for them for Christmas if they are marketed well, priced at great prices, and if those same kids are bored of their hyped up systems and tablets that simply lack the games.
