Mega Man 2.5D is a fan-made project which began life way back in 2009. We've covered the progress of this interesting release a couple of times in the past, and now we can happily report that the game is finally finished.
Created by a team of passionate Mega Man fans, the title boasts a unique co-op mode and a camera which offers a new perspective on the action. It's exactly the kind of thing Capcom should be producing officially, but the company seems to be curiously reluctant to leverage one of its most enduring brands.

Looks so awesome. Will definitely give it a whirl, and hopefully Capcom doesn't get any cease-and-desist ideas.
@ricklongo I doubt it, Capcom Unity picked up MegamanXStreetFighter so hopes they do the same with 2.5D or at least leave it alone without giving cease and desist cough Nintendo *cough
@Nintenbomba64
cough SEGA cough Blizzard cough Square Enix cough cough.
Looks amazing
Looks excellent.
Shame it takes passionate fans to do this and not passionate developers.
I find it amazing that companies can't see what the rest of us want from them.
If fans are prepared to do this off their own back and companies like Nintendo and Capcom know about it, then instead of stopping them, back them.
How can this hurt their sales if it wasn't being developed by them in the first place?
It's more revenue for them eventually if they throw some dollars behind them and then help distribute it.
It's' what most fans wanted in the first place anyway otherwise why would they do it.
Maybe I should just cease and desist before it hurts my head.
Btw, alot of coughing going on, you guys need to get that looked at.
I thought the 2.5D fan-made game was called Mighty No.9.
All joking aside I think this would've been a great idea if Capcom did made 3D Classic Megaman like this for 3DS
Anyone besides me notice it took scenes from anime and commercials and reanimated them?
THE HYPE IS MAXXED OUT!!!
Eight years in development; C&D'd in eight hours.
Time truly is a relative concept!
@Nintenbomba64 @shaneoh @KiWiiU_Freek

Mighty Number 9 was a mistake.
Wasn't there a ROM hack released last year that did something similar?
Capcom seens to handle Megaman the oposite of Sega's handling of Sonic.
"People love it's games. Let's stop making them!"
Capcom should be looking at this and feeling very ashamed of itself right about now—in terms of it not really doing anything new with this beloved franchise in some time. In fact, Capcom should get in touch with these guys and work with them on fully polishing it up and then release it on the likes of the Switch eShop—that's what I'd do if I had any say in the matter (a bit like Sega did with the recent Sonic Mania game, and that's looking awesome).
I'm happy that these are the first comments to be said about this project. I know that there will inevitably be some people who spout their spite and refer to this fan project as evil, while brandishing their own devilish pitchforks... But until then, it's all excited joviality, "Capcom should be doing this" and MN9 jokes commentary. As it should be.
I can't help but notice, again, the irony of having this article posted right after the one about the failure of what Capcom wants to be Megaman's substitute in terms of bankable franchises.
Unless it's a trope kind of thing I'm unaware of, that scene at 00:36 reminds of the classic Bleach opening.
Get it before it's gone, sooner or later, Capcom will fire off a cease-and-desist and a take down notice. After all, it's their IP. No matter how good it is, unless, they do a Sega...
Nice work 👍🏻
However, I won't play a new Megaman game unless it's Legends 3 or something with newer graphics like Mighty 9.
Let's not dwell in the past
@H_Hunter Legends 3 is never going to happen now, and MN9 was a flop. For all we know, this could be the final "new" Mega Man game...
@PlywoodStick Well to be fair Mighty No. 9 was only a flop because of the lying developer, huge aesthetic changes made due to unrealistic timescales being given and an underwhelming product considering the money invested. It's hard to say that a new Megaman game released without several years of hateful, negative publicity is particularly comparable.
You're right though, Megaman Legends 3 will never happen - from what I can tel, even if just the community that was helping in it's development had bought a copy each it would have had "okay" sales. back then Capcom wouldn't release a game that sold under 2m copies & I've not hear much positive about them since.
Edit: For examples of developers not knowing what they're on about, please see Square-Enix being surprised a turn-based RPG like Bravely Default could sell despite making their name with turn-based RPGs or Capcom being surprised a "survival horror" version of their action-FPS Resident Evil selling well... despite making it's name as a survival horror (RE1-4).
@ricklongo
They're not Nintendo so I doubt it.
@TossedLlama Two words: Boot Camp or Parallels Desktop!
The game looks kind cool...in reality I just watched the video for the music. That is all.
Personally, I think that Capcom should be looking at this and then spending the day playing it in-house.
They do not seem to have any current strategy for this IP and if the way they handled Street Fighter x Mega Man fan project is any indicator - these fan games are viewed as complimentary to their IP's strength.
SEGA + Capcom = Great fan service.
This is awesome. I wish Capcom would get behind them and fund them doing all original 6 games like this.
Looks like fun. Hey Capcom why don't you start hiring some of these people who make some of the good fanmade games and really get these games off the ground?
@Bobb
Right?
@impurekind
Capcom needs to go sit in the corner and think about what it's done.
Looks awkward, but would be a good fit for the 3DS and co-op seems awesome in theory.
Looks pretty promising
Looked better than it was for 3ds
Strange. Fan made game of classic franchise, amazing, were can I download it, shame on original developer.
Fan made game of classic Nintendo franchise. I won't play it, developer should concentrate on original games, illegal, Nintendo need to protect their IP's.
@AVahne To be fair, lots of companies do this, and they're entirely within their rights. I think Capcom not C&D-ind such initiatives (and even embracing some, such as MMxSF) has more to do with their lack of vision and quality control for their franchises than anything.
Oh hey! I remember this! And I was just thinking about it the other day, too. I'll grab it while I can.
Also: @AlexSora89 thank you for reminding me to take my inhaler today. I almost forgot. O_O
Is this legal?
I mean...if not, will Capcom take it down?
That would be so douschy.
They should just allow this game to exist, embrace it and make a deal with the developer on how profits are shared.
If they did that, people would get huge respect for them
I remember seeing this long ago.
Nice to see the unused Pharaoh Man stage mini boss was included.
@CanisWolfred
Glad to help!
@AlexSora89 It also turned out that I needed to pick up a new inhaler at the pharmacy before they closed, and the one I had was almost used up. So yeah, you definitely helped.
@CanisWolfred
First time I help someone by accident while cracking a joke with a GIF.
I have this kind of... of GIFt, if you will.
I can't get it to work! Has anybody gotten theirs to work?
