Super Meat Boy is a title that is firmly fixed in 'Indie' gaming history, and has been ported and re-released on most systems, including the Wii U. It's now confirmed that it's coming to the Nintendo Switch, too, with Team Meat and its crew evidently getting comfortable working with Nintendo's new system.
The confirmation was given in a tweet, below.
This follow-up tweet amused us, it must be said...
So there you have it, we'll be able to enjoy this classic on the Switch; hopefully Super Meat Boy Forever will also make it to the system.
Will you be picking up this rare classic in the hope it's well done, or are you so disgusted by that rubbish meat-based wordplay that you want to slag this writer off instead? Let us know in the comments.

I'm surprised by the overwhelmingly positive response to the announcement for a port of an almost 7 year old game.
Great, I was praying for this every sunday morning !
I love that the Switch is getting all the indie classics. Now please bring Fez and Don't Starve (the latter being one of the best fits I can imagine).
Port. Port. Port.
Need to get a joy con version with a d-pad ASAP!
This and sonic mania won't be the same with the analog stick!!!!
Awesome, now I can beat the meat on the go!
Hold on, no...
Never played it so yes !
My only copy is now behind a PS Plus paywall so count me in
@JH64 Isn't it more fun to use a joystick?
Would it be too much to call the writer of this article an offal dumping?
@TommyTLG definitely not!!!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE really don't see the problem. There is an obvious demand from the public so why not release it. Would be silly not to. People who own switches want this game available to play.
Damn... seems like by backlog of games is more then 7 years old. This one has been waiting on my PS4 for ages....
... now it's gonna be in my backlog on Switch too! Can't wait ;-D
SUPERRRRR MMMEAT BOY! I mean great but really who wants to play this and hasn't managed to get it on another system by now?
If it turns out well-done, I might just steak a claim to a copy.
And yet another great indie coming to Switch. I may have a copy on Steam but I'm always too lazy to reconfigure my only Xbox controller from Xbox to PC and vice versa.
Who needs new games
Meh, I am waiting to play Rez Infinite on Switch. The HD Rumble will be superb with this game. PC gamers won't get this feature.
@Nincompoop Rez is an awesome game. Would love to see it on the Switch.
who cares???
"I'm surprised by the overwhelmingly positive response to the announcement for a port of an almost 7 year old game."
Well I'm surprised too.
This previous gen indie ports are the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen !
Finally!!!
Now watch it getting priced at 20 Dollars/Euros....
The word play would have been better if the 'well done' hasn't been done in the tagline and again in the article itself.
Slag off! Just kidding. I've never played this series so I'll be picking it up. I've always been curious.
Torn between blowing the dust of my 360 or playing a borked version with the terrible new soundtrack (I assume).
Given it's age and low price on other platforms, I hope they launch at $10. This game is basic, and on everything from smartphones to handhelds, so they can't really use "development costs" as a reason to jack it up any higher than that.
Well at least it made it over to the Switch faster than it did to the Wii U.
@JH64 I hope for a d pad Joycon too, not sure if we'll ever see it though. ☹️
@Axlroselm how so? People are still buying the original Mario bros.
I'll pass on this one.
Bring on the ports! The more choice, the better.
Some folks act like ports are getting in the way of new offerings. They are not mutually exclusive.
Id rather have the end is nigh
Nice that it's coming but c'mon it's 7 years already, where's the damn sequel?
I'll wait another year at least to get a Switch. Hopefully it carries on selling and attracts new games from 3rd parties.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Whine. Whine. Whine.
I never picked this up on Wii U, having a massive glut of 2D platformers to play already, but I might give it a shot on Switch, since playing in portable mode might give me a chance to give it proper attention.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Why yes, this is a port. Thank you for clarifying three times. Now care to explain why this is a problem?
When it's $10 or less, I'll jump on board. It's been a good while since I last played the game, and having it portable would be nice!
@Radbot42 Well, that IS coming. I'm not thrilled that The End is Nigh will be $30 because it's also coming out at retail, but still, we'll have it sometime this year!
Just don't through your Switch against a wall in anger if you can't beat a level.
@Tibob I'd buy Fez again in a heartbeat. Shame Phil Fish went off the deep end and won't be making the planned sequel, but regardless to what I think of him, that was a mesmerizing game.
@faint
Well that's Mario Bros.
Never had a system this was on - only could play it at my friends once in awhile, which means basically nothing. Cannot wait to have this on Switch. I want FEZ next on here.
@Axlroselm then... don't buy it? There's clearly an audience for this. And unlike every other video game console, there's actually a great reason to double dip on the Switch, as it can be used portable or at home.
I most likely won't be picking this up, as I played it to death on steam, but if this ever goes on sale for cheap, I could see me buying it again. It's not as if porting this game is killing off a new project.
So, Super Meat Boy and Super Meat Boy Forever are 2 different games, and both come to Switch?
@roadrunner343
Of course my friend I will not buy it. But I'm not talking about what shall I buy or what must you buy. I'm talking about the value of releases in Switch eshop.
@Axlroselm Your statement was "Who cares" and that it was "the most ridiculous thing you've ever seen" when obviously, there is demand for the game, and for the the first time for many people, there is actually a great reason to double dip. So it makes perfect sense to me.
Will it be the same xbox360 version?
I was happy when I heard the Switch was going to make it easier for developers to port their games, and I still am! This is one of the few indie games I didn't get on Wii U, because I knew it would end up here. Glad Severed showed up the other day too, I'm spoilt for choice though!
@Axlroselm well this is super meat boy
@SKTTR correct
@SLIGEACH_EIRE if 90 percent of modern games are made for pc and require a port to consoles then wouldn't nearly all console games be ports ☝️
I don't know what's at steak here but I hope sales meat his expectations. It would suck if he ended up thinking it was a miSTEAK to bring his game to the switch. He he
Already have it on steam but might get it on switch just so I can play it on the toilet
This game was one of my favorites for the 360. It will be tempting to double-dip it so that I can have a portable version, but I must say not having the original soundtrack does make it a little less tantalizing. The original was (is) SOO good. I still listen to it quite regularly.
