Re: Michael Pachter Suggests That Wii U Could Struggle

Malkeor

Alot of people just don't understand Nintendo logic.
But that's exactly what they do in the market. They disrupt it, and end up doing really well while competitors try and catch up in the late term.

Analysts are sketchy because it's obviously really different and new and it can be hard to grasp when we just know the basic concept.

Pachter is no different.
Sure any technology can be better when released sooner rather than later, but it's so much more than that. We're looking at an entire new control scheme with a plethora of ideas.
It doesn't matter what the competitors do....this is unique.

So take that mr. analyst man! Samus thumbs down
(it's fun to go with the flow)

Re: Michael Pachter Suggests That Wii U Could Struggle

Malkeor

Pachter saying something bad about Nintendo? This doesn't make any sense.
Seriously though price is indeed a factor but they have learned their lesson from the 3DS.
Actually this is one of the more agreeable things Pachter has said.

I think that innovation and how they use the controller will matter over power and graphical capability. Like someone else said earlier, I really don't think it'll be THAT big of a gap for graphics, and besides it's FULL 1080p. Wii was 480i or 480p with special component cables....and whatever comes next from the competitors won't exceed 1080p. Those 4k res TVs still have a ways to go before they are consumer friendly
Nintendo is overall better off, JUST talking about graphical capability.

BTW Thomas, get to work on more rumors. Those are oh so much fun

Re: Gears of War Developer Expects Wii U Success

Malkeor

Somehow I find it hard to believe that the PS3 is "just getting started" as far as graphical capability...
As time goes on and games are made for the consoles, it takes alot of work to make them playable at the framerates the devs want.

Take a look at some of the PC companions for the same games.
Alot of you can say you can't tell a difference but the truth is, textures and other graphical tech definitions take a hit from being on a console.
Sure the games look prettier because of new and revised engines, but I can still play today's gorgeous games with my 8800 GT a fairly old card...it'll look great still but if you ever play on maximum settings, you'll notice just how much of a hit you took.

The PS3 has frequent graphical issues, could be just me but for some games textures sometimes just won't load all the way and sometimes there are texture pop ins. Some games.
Sure it can happen on a PC, texture pop ins, but it all depends on your system.

My one defense for PS3 graphics though is Naughty Dog. The Uncharted games just look absolutely awesome. I've had no problems or glitches or hiccups with those games, ever.

And the Wii U? That real time zelda demo, and the EARLY example of that bird tech demo showed at E3.
We all remember how the 360 and PS3 looked when they first came out.
Compare Resistance 1 to Uncharted 3...just absolutely amazing.

The Wii U has time to grow graphically...nobody is just sure how far it will go.

Re: Feature: Nintendo's Motion Revolution

Malkeor

It's not just that though. The trend is the way that Nintendo uses technology, while it still being relevantly new, but not inventing it...competitors do intent to follow suit.
I agree with Nintendo not inventing the technology itself, but how it was put to innovative use in the mainstream market.

Re: Havok Physics and Animation to Power Wii U Games

Malkeor

Havok seems to be a really good leading physics engine.
It's just up to the developer on how to utilize the physics...
Used in subtle proportions might unimpressive in your eyes, but they can also be great and used in full force.
An awesome thing to have for Nintendo especially since it's actually part of their development kit.

Edit: Oops, well Maggots already summed it up

Re: Kid Icarus: Uprising 3D Screenshots Swoop Into View

Malkeor

@Shonenjump86: Oh cmon that's like saying if you hate Starfox 64 you're gonna hate Starfox Adventures

Really looking forward to this game though. The only minor complains I heard had to do with with the controls. Hopefully they polished that up before they finished.

Re: Hideki Konno Discusses Mario Kart 7 and its Development

Malkeor

Well Retro's involvement was already well described in the Iwata's Asks in high detail with both parties. Very good reads btw I encourage people to read them if they don't already.
It's great to see Retro pitching in with helping. They are turning out to be one of Nintendo's most important studios.

As for items I mean that's what makes it part of the fun, it what makes Nintendo who they are and you have a blast playing within the chaos of the track.

I think limiting items, having the option rather, is a good idea for the competitive crowd, especially those during tourneys. There should always be an option for these type of things; just like how there is an option to turn off/on items in Super Smash Bros.

Re: Review: Metroid (3DS eShop / NES)

Malkeor

@Geonjaha
Hit the nail on the head.

It really hasn't aged too well, but nostalgia will cover up the faults...but nostalgia alone won't make a score to me. Not when you're a newcomer to the series or the game. Or if you're not old enough and might not appreciate archaic and repetitive aspects.
But to each his or her own, I respect it.

At least I have it for free, maybe i'll try to get into it again. There's always something about playing a beloved series origin game that makes you want to appreciate and experience how it all started. I'll look at it in a positive light with the save point features and such this time

Re: Feature: Nintendo’s Biggest Blunders

Malkeor

To everyone goin' on about 3rd party support and the like, and all these problems in their head....
The Wii- U with an already impressive 3rd party roster says, "Howdy".

We still don't know the finer details of the Wii-U but it's not exaggerations that everyone today is looking for an entertainment hub of some kind in their household. They want to be connected, and hoping the Wii-U can deliver fairly well.
Things aren't looking grim....but because ti's such a new take on design investors (and potential consumers) are scared and that's not surprising. But innovation is what makes Nintendo...Nintendo.
I'm not really worried.

There's the question weather Nintendo can hold outside developer interest, but that depends on how they can get them to say "wow that would be different, the definitive version of my game on their console even!"
Maybe an exaggeration but the way the Wii U can do things, it would be quite something to see how different these games are gonna be played on Wii U compared to other consoles.

They learn from their mistakes, and the build about their strengths. That's basically the jist of it.

Re: Feature: The Desire for Physical Media

Malkeor

I love physical copies, I love opening a game box, smelling the book...mmm that smell. Reading it in the bathroom...all that good stuff, especially looking at beautiful Collector's Editions.
But as the future rolls on I don't think there's much we can do about it. Companies are going to cut down on resources, paper being one of them and we'll have digital copies.
Or we could have electronic paper inside out boxes made out of cheaper material, bio degradable packaging etc. if there is still a large demand for physical media in the future.

We don't know what will happen but you brought up a good point about cloud saves and harddrives because I always worry, about the hassle of exchanging data if I get a new system or whenever else i'll need to transfer files.
I worry about losing my data as well and if anything ever happens i'll lose all my games.
Things could become much more secure in the future though, which would be interesting to see how they handle the problems. It'll be a while though.

Beyond the ease and usually hassle free of simply downloading a PSOne Classic on PSN, I usually prefer hard copies. Unless it's an older hard to find game.

If I have the option to purchase a new game at a store like Mass Effect 3, instead of getting the digital copy, I do that instead. I'll mourn the manuals but I always like having the disc with me in case anything ever happens.
Besides who doesn't like having a shelf full of games? Your own software library is always something to be proud of. But there will always be different strokes for different folks. There will be those who don't want to bother with keeping up with all their stuff taking up space and will instead like to have a library will hundreds maybe even a few terabytes of easy to access information, in this case their games.

Overall I think we all kind of went into the future just a little bit too quick, we left some folks behind who are used to their cartridges and CDs, and we still haven't solved many of problems that come with digital options. Questions will be answered, but that's for the future. In a few years or towards the end of the decade I guess we'll find out.

Re: Nintendo Rejects The Binding of Isaac

Malkeor

Personally not a big deal for me. We all have computers and can get it on Steam.
"But I wanna play it on a portable" sorry :/ all I gotta say.

I think they are doing the right thing, as a catholic anyway, and for other religious groups in general. I applaud them for trying to uphold their beliefs and "for everyone" assurance.
Sure they could stick an age gate, call it M rated and give a warning....but it would still cause problems I believe, especially for the Nintendo demographic.

Re: Gearbox Wants As Much Wii U Power As Possible

Malkeor

It's really cool to see developers intrigued by the Wii U. I'd imagine they have so many innovative ideas the system could perhaps put to good use.

But as things evolve everyone wants to test their limits, try something new, alot of it requires more power and people always want to see advancements in all fields.
I hope Nintendo can deliver expectations or beyond, as we'll get alot of great support from a wide range of developers.

Re: Pokémon Black & White Version 2 Announced

Malkeor

@pyrexpress "The 3DS is still doing bad outside of Japan."

Sorry I have a hard time believing what you say. I dunno if you'd been keeping up with sales figures lately, but in no way is it doing bad. Not at all actually.

Re: Pokémon Black & White Version 2 Announced

Malkeor

It's on DS because Black/White were on DS...it's not that hard to think about really. No matter how much you complain it's not going to change anything now. It isn't the end of days (yet)

The first main series sequel eh? interesting, even if that picture looks silly.

Re: Welcome to the New Look Nintendo Life!

Malkeor

It's probably because i'm seeing a stupid Tekkan ad in the background...but other than that, everything else looks bloated, i'm favoring the previous layout.
I guess i'll get used to this though.

Edit: Flags, yeah, I think those were really neat to see.

Re: Nintendo May Not Call Wii U a Home Console

Malkeor

I appreciate Nintendo trying everything differently and thinking differently, even going so far as naming and calling things differently for the whole sake of being different and new.....but Nintendo cmon...it's still a home console. It's just gotten a bit silly now.
