Re: Konami Dissolving Hudson Soft

Noooooooooooo!!! I always hated these corporate takeovers; they're left to rot and die. Again, another legendary company which has dissolved into oblivion. Adventure Island 4 life!

Re: Nintendo Reconfirms Wii U Will Not Make Wii Games Sharper

JGMR

"i bet even though they say it wont look better ..they will..
i mean the signal will be passed through HDMI...they just saying it wont to cover their butts because im sure the difference will be small...but will look a bit better.."

That's it.
Even though games may indeed be displayed in the same resolution, they will look sharper because of the usage of a HDMI cable. It'll be weird if not.

Re: Millions of Wii Games Pirated in 2011

JGMR

@37 Completely agree. Lots of people cannot differentiate hackers and homebrew developers from pirates; they even think they're the same. Well, they're not. A pirate may hack a certain system, but a hacker doesn't have to be interested in piracy at all. It's the old story; It's not the sword, but the one who wields it.

Re: Millions of Wii Games Pirated in 2011

JGMR

Games are not more expensive than 20 years ago. In fact, the majority of games nowadays are vastly cheaper than the majority of games say 20 years ago. Except for the PS3 perhaps. The most expensive game I ever bought was Donkey Kong Country which was priced Fl 170,- which is 77,20 Euros nowadays! (almost the price of 2 new 3DS games together!)

But I agree on the fact that you must give credit where it's due (i.e. pay for what you appreciate). I think it's more a moral than legal issue as a matter of fact. I don't think so much of it as "Oh, everyone should buy the game I worked on." but more of "Look! A lot of people bought the game I worked on, and that keeps on motivating me." And a true artist isn't concerned with sale-figures either, he does things from the heart. And those are the people who I love and who I spend a LOT of money on.

As for myself, I never understood pirates. I never understood why people want to burn something onto deteriorating media instead of owning the 'real quality thing'. My guess is that they do not truly love videogames. They're more like junkies who are on the lookout for a quick fix. LOL

Re: Millions of Wii Games Pirated in 2011

JGMR

Not surprised. Although I'm very much against piracy (I ALWAYS buy games, as I hate downloading), I'm also very much unconcerned about these issues. In the 90s we had copyboxes, Game Boy carts containing 101 original games, etc. It's nothing new, and it will never end. Face it.

You can also wonder how many people downloaded games in order to try them before buying them? How many people bought these games after downloading? You never hear that. I'm quite spurious on these matters.

Re: Tekken 3D Prime Edition

JGMR

Although I'm sure it will be a great game, Namco could've been more friendly by including the previous TEKKEN arcade titles part 1 to 3 (instead of the film), for Nintendo gamers that missed out over the years...

Re: Wii Celebrates Its Fifth Anniversary in Europe

JGMR

"Did you pick up your Wii console on 8th December 2006?"

Actually, a few days earlier than the 'official' streetdate. Bought the pre-ordered Twilight Princess along with it. Wii Sports came packaged in a DVD-case, unlike now...

Re: Aonuma: "We'll See" About Zelda Voice Acting

JGMR

As for myself, I would prefer the way it has been done. Voice-acting, even if it was done in Hylian, would take away the magic. Skyward Sword, which has quite a big story and cast left a more powerful, emotional impact on me, because it was presented 'voice-less'. See, the problem isn't the quality of voice-acting; the problem is voice-acting itself. Super Mario isn't a talker either, and he should also be 'anonymous' as possible...

Re: Aonuma: "We'll See" About Zelda Voice Acting

JGMR

Eiji Aonuma: "When a player is playing a Zelda game, my desire is for the player to truly become Link — that's why we named him Link, so the player is linked to the game and to the experience. Of course, the player can always change Link's name to their own name to further that notion should they want. But if we did give him a voice, that would go against the whole notion of Link being you, because Link's voice should really be your voice."

(2007)

Dan Owsen: "I wouldn't call it a disconnect. Just that the developers feel that posting a full narrative would take away from the players' imagination. Part of what makes the series so special is the legend that spans across the series and they wanted to preserve that in the players' vision. It's also why they have never given Link a voice. The story is told as if the player is Link. Giving him a voice would eliminate that attachment."

Re: Feature: Memorable Zelda Moments

JGMR

There's nothing which isn't memorable about the Zelda series. Let's say that the first time I played The Legend Of Zelda for the NES back in 1990 was one of the most incredible moments in my life; it felt so huge, it was unbelievable. Using the flute to travel and the raft to cross water were all quite new experiences for me. It was also a great feeling finding secret rooms, defeating these gigantic monsters and collecting parts of the Triforce (and the Heart Container of course!). The same can be said when I got my hands on A Link To The Past back in 1993; it remained my favorite Zelda until Twilight Princess came along. Link's Awakening is probably my favorite portable title ever, it was just incredible, especially the puzzles and it's great characters and cameos. I could go on for hours about it's music, influences and secrets but I'm in the middle of Xenoblade, so...if ya don't mind...

Oh, finding the last dungeon in The Legend Of Zelda was also quite fun, ghehehe....

Re: Nintendo Delayed Skyward Sword To Get It Just Right

JGMR

It's easily the most amazing looking Zelda, and maybe even the best Zelda of all-time... And I must say that the game is not that difficult, when you're using logic you can walk through the game quite easily. But what a journey!

Re: Feature: Remembering the GameCube

JGMR

F-Zero GX, Metroid Prime 1 and 2, Killer 7, Viewtiful Joe, Tales Of Symphonia, Baiten Kaitos, Resident Evil-series, Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes, Luigi's Mansion, Pikmin, Burnout, Star Wars Rogue Squadron, Time Splitters 2, Phantasy Star Online I + II, Super Mario Sunshine, Zelda Windwaker, etc. etc...good memories from an very nicely designed console...

Re: Talking Point: What Was the Best Super NES Game Ever?

JGMR

Almost impossible to answer, however Super Metroid remains the Super Nintendo game that had the greatest impact on me, everything about it is perfect, it's music, it's atmosphere, it's controls, it's size, it's secrets...etc etc etc. It's also the greatest game ever made, on any system, in my opinion...

A link to the Past comes second, closely followed by Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country 2 and Super Castlevania IV...
