We've only had a few weeks of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, but already series producer Eiji Aonuma is thinking about Zelda on Wii U.
Speaking to Nintendo Power (via GoNintendo), Aonuma touched on what users can expect from the next home console entry in the 25-year old series:
Skyward Sword is a title where we took aim at all the conventions of the Zelda series. While that may have been difficult, I think that confronting those challenges resulted in something that has a great deal of value. When it comes to Wii U, we'll obviously want to add new elements that take advantage of the capabilities of the platform. I think using that as a lens through which we once again challenge the conventions of Zelda is more important than just making another Zelda game. With that in mind, please expect big things from the Zelda series to come!
It may be a little early to start looking forward to E3 2012, but considering some ditched Skyward Sword ideas may make it into Zelda Wii U we're just a little bit excited already.

Always up for more Zelda
I'll buy it.
Oh wait, it isn't out yet? Come on nintendo, get your act together!
Can't wait, Zelda Wii U will obviously be awesome. Let's-a go!
I'm with @erv. We've waited long enough!
I will be expecting the big spider in the picture.
Skyward Sword is pretty much euphoria on a disc, but I realized something playing it. Zelda games are special and as such I would hope that Nintendo doesn't rush the next one out TOO quickly. The way I see it, Skyward Sword was well worth the wait and it's a very complete and very polished experience and that's what every Zelda game should be. Aside from that, yeah, my mind hurts just trying to picture what a high definition Zelda would be like... oh man.
There is no zelda game for Wii U! come on guy! you guys know more than that... we will see Mario games waaay before we see any zelda game for Wii U. we will play Skyward Sword for at least 4 years.
This is a bit bittersweet for me...
Why? Before Skyward Sword I was salivating at the notion of a realistic style Zelda in HD, with traditional controls and inventory on that screen. And I still think that would be very very good, incredible even.
But Skyward Sword is just so good I can't imagine playing Zelda another way. The off-realistic look lets the developer have more freedom on the design of the enemies (and Locations/Bosses), and those motion controls are just too perfect. Even if they stick with the same style, but in HD, how are you going to keep the motion controls on that screen?
You could say: "But Wiimote+ support is staying with WiiU". True, but think of the logistics. What are you going to do, put that remote in front of you for Inventory look and play with a wiimote?
So, it's bittersweet. Dang you Nintendo for begin so good that I want it ALL. It's your fault.
And this is why you Aonuma will be the final killer of Zelda. You are focused on taking advantage of what can be done with the new WiiU instead of being focused on the game itself. Again a game built around a hardware solution (last atrocity has been SS, Im pretty sure Aonuma can do it even worse with a bit of effort and more new controls to play with).
Using the Wii U controller as a Lens of Truth could be fun.
But I rather like the tech demo we saw at E3, with Twilight Princess graphics and the menu screen on the controller.
The last time Nintendo wasn't able to fit all of their ideas into a game was after Super Mario Galaxy. Take that as you will, but I absolutely loved Galaxy 2 over the original. Call me pleased as punch.
I'd rather they don't take advantage of the wiiU. Wii and DS Zeldas both used the system's unique features WAY more than was necessary.
@Bigdog dude, just grow a third and fourth arm. Problem solved
This'll be awesome. Zelda on Wii U and Wii U itself. Seriously, though, I hope we get some serious range on that Wii U streaming controller... I keep my game systems in my bedroom to play, but often go out to the front room for certain TV events... if I could stream my Wii U games out there onto the controller... and if I can stream Wii games too... this'll be a miracle machine. <3
I'm not gonna start waiting this. It's gonna take at least four, maybe five years to get ready.
If Skyward Sword is an atrocity then Wii U Zelda needs to be the worst game ever. I love the series but it needed to be dragged kicking and screaming past Ocarina of Time into modern gaming. SS beats OoT in about every way and I like OoT. SS actually has new puzzles. Seriously, TP had huge dungeons full of every puzzle that is in every Zelda game. It was OoT 2.0. SS feels like something new. I actually have to think a little unlike other new Zelda games. They were getting lazy.
Anyways, I'm fine waiting 5 years. OoT took about 6, SS took 5. I hope they don't rush it if it takes that long to make a great game.
I don't mind waiting. Skyward Sword arrived only a few days ago, and there are plenty of other entries in the series which I have yet to play.
The deadline seems to be three years...

I haven't even flipping gotten through 1/2 of Skyward Sword yet! This is too much Zelda!
Well I hope its an amazing game! I'm a little wary, though, the last time they challenged the series conventions we ended up with zelda II...
cool i waz wondern wat can da next zelda game be?well i no it will be next @ wii u so y not?well im willing to see majora's mask on 3ds still dan da wii u even though they need a zelda game on wii u but ok .
@21 I think they mean challenging the series conventions like Skyward Sword, hopefully not Zelda 2. I love the soundtrack, grinding doesn't kill me but having to go all the way back to the beginning when I die in a dungeon is a dealbreaker. (also the seizure inducing game over screen is a bit annoying when you see it for the 2,956,053rd time)
@90s_gamer: I think they were only joking.
I don't mind how long it takes them to make a new Zelda game if it can contain or even top the quality of most games in the series. (Lowest low besides the CD-i games: the shallowness of Phantom Hourglass - which still was a good game though.)
Also keep in mind that for a long time they also said Skyward Sword would be released 2010.
skyward sword is obviously a triumph. however, it was a long wait to use the wii to its full potential. with wii u nintendo better make sure game play and using the wii u controller to its full potential is of utmost importance. the hd thing just wont cut it.
I want to see how the Gorons and the Zoras came to be. like a sequel to the prequel=) Mayby a The Legend of Zelda: Dark Sage: Finale game=) because that trailer is really good and to play a game based on that...maaan how really awesome:D
