Re: Feature: 3DS Games Worth Buying Before Mario

JGMR

I would've bought a 3DS just to play Ridge Racer 3D, as a huge Ridge Racer fan. Other games that interest me are Super Mario 3D Land, Metal Gear Solid 3, Zelda Ocarina of Time, Dead Or Alive and maybe - MAYBEEEE - Resident Evil Revelations.......

Re: Review: Metroid Prime 2: Echoes (GameCube)

JGMR

In my opinion the best and most challenging entry in the Prime series. The game was ultimately bigger in every way. The graphics are a huge improvement over the first game; the game was displayed in a higher resolution and contained new special effects. The music was fantastic too, especially the rearrangement of Super Metroid's Brinstar Red Soil theme. One of it's strongest points is it's incredibly well-balanced backtracking. Not to mention it's darker theme and atmosphere.

There was also a lot of unused and planned content that didn't make it into the final build

Re: Feature: Staff Roundtable - Metroid's Past, Present and Future

JGMR

What makes the Metroid games so memorable and so great? It's items. The items are (like in Zelda), the main stars in the game. Nothing matches the feeling of acquiring an item that let you explore previously unreachable terrain...it's like discovering a whole new world within that world...

Re: Iwata Shoulders Blame for Low 3DS Sales, Cuts Salary in Half

JGMR

Although the Wii and DS sold like crazy, things seem not to go that well. To cut your salary in half isn't a sign of prosperity i think?! Things cannot be blamed on the '3DS sales' alone, it's simply not possible. Too much invested? Taken a risk that didn't turn out right? I really, really wonder what went wrong...

Re: Resident Evil: Code Veronica X

JGMR

I find it very weird that Capcom didn't expand their RE Archives by adding this game to that series...

It was one of my favorite Dreamcast 'exclusives' back then.

Re: The Thought of a Shooter-Only Future Makes Iwata Sad

JGMR

@The_Fox I know what you mean. Bioshock, like Half-Life, are exceptions in the first person genre. Both have a deep and tremendous story and meaning. But i must say that i up hoar games like Modern Warfare that glorify war. I am however in favor of games that confronts the gamer with the madness of warfare, like Metal Gear Solid.

Re: Resident Evil: Revelations Graphics "Will Blow You Away"

JGMR

Resident Evil 5 also looked incredible, and yet it was quite frankly one of the worst in the series. Resident Evil implies exploring a Residence or Residential areas, not Desert Wastelands under a soaking sun! And although i really like Resident Evil 4 as a game, it isn't Resident Evil in the true sense. It seems that Resident Evil 1-3 will never be surpassed. Capcom minus Shinji's original creativity equaled the Death of Resident Evil imo...

Re: Talking Point: The Growing Storm of Operation Rainfall

JGMR

What's the point of selling crap like the 20th fitness or 'my little pony' game (games that do not sell well) instead of these three quality games?

And yes, i thought about Fatal Frame IV. But there are also Tales of Graces and Namco Museum Megamix, games which i would've liked to play...

Nintendo, Namco and Capcom really turned into narcissistic companies last couple of years.

Re: SEGA, Aksys and Konami All Use Permanent 3DS Save Data Too

JGMR

I do not know how it goes in other countries, but here in Holland, most shops let you swap your newly bought videogame within 24 hours for another one if you don't like it.

What if you don't like it? Or completed it within a day? What should you do then? Keep that game? Or swap it for a game that might already have saved data on it, which cannot be erased? No 3DS for me. Shame, because i was becoming more interested in it.

Re: Features: Re-Examining Zelda: Twilight Princess

JGMR

I'm replaying the game at the moment, i just passed the 'Sumo-test' of the village chief

I have to say that certain items and their usage are quite ingeniously designed, like the Gale Boomerang for instance or the Twin Hookshot. It really added something to the gameplay.

Re: Review: SNK Arcade Classics Vol. 1 (Wii)

JGMR

Funny that the presenter (Martijn Krabbe) of the former Power Play videogame show in the Netherlands (that was broadcasted in the early 90's), also called the Neo Geo the Rolls Royce of the videogame systems.

Last Resort, Art of Fighting, Burning Fight and Fatal Fury alone make this a excellent compilation. I already had the King of Fighters and Samurai Showdown comps, so...

Re: Resident Evil: Revelations Returns to Series' Exploration Roots

JGMR

Compare the first edition of Resident Evil with it's superior remake for the Gamecube and you'll know the answer to that question Instead of releasing countless 'sequels', developers should try to perfect their former masterpieces. Even painters work with such ethic; they know that they're never finished. Instead of giving the audiences a new rattle every single week, they should take time and dedicate themselves like artists.

But, what happens? They are using former characters in a game that has nothing to do with that title's universe, as an excuse to call it a Resident Evil game. Even the man who gave birth to the series (Shinji Mikami) called RE 4 a great action game, but not a Resident Evil one, something i was saying for years. Too many gamers are cynical and not critical.

Re: Resident Evil: Revelations Returns to Series' Exploration Roots

JGMR

Back to the roots, without Raccoon City? All years, money, add-ons and sequels could have been spend creating amazing remakes of Resident Evil 2 and 3...
I'm not against newer titles in a series. However, Resident Evil was built upon the story of Raccoon City and it's suburbs, so it is a logical progress to built further upon that story, to expand that universe by revisionizing earlier titles and create stories that are seen from a different perspectives.

Resident Evil 4 might be a good action title, spawning the 'over-the-shoulder'-genre, but it isn't Resident Evil although it featured a former protagonist and the title, and nor are it's sequels actually related to the classic titles. Code Veronica and RE4 were nice little exceptions in the saga. But most die-hard RE fans are growing tired of the enforcement upon the original series.

It's ironic that Resident Evil itself is becoming one of the living dead because Capcom seems to keep trying to fix what wasn't broken in the first place...

"Zombies, howling hounds, other mutated animals, hysterical and atmospheric music, urban environments and static 2D, rendered perspectives that enforces the uncomfortable feeling as a gamer : Resident Evil...R.I.P."

Guess i'm not the only one.

Re: Super Everdrive Flash Cart Miniaturises Your SNES Collection

JGMR

Good and classic titles should always be available in stores (just like old movies on DVD's). I think that the games-industry needs to wake up to the fact that there is always demand from people. When you read comments on Youtube on certain out-of-print titles, there is obviously something going on. A LOT of people want to (re-)experience certain games that aren't readily available. It is my opinion that old consoles and their games should be manufactured to meet the demands of the game-community, a sort of 'game-on-demand' pressing of titles. I bet a lot of people are willing to buy Final Fantasy VII for the Playstation 1. Screw all downloads, legal or illegal. Wouldn't you like to buy a brand new SNES with Super Metroid or Playstation 1 with WipeOut????

Re: GoldenEye's Success "Proves Core Games Sell on Wii"

JGMR

@thaantman I agree. Only Activision isn't the developer of Goldeneye, that is Eurocom (who has a more than a decent back-catalogue). I really like the new Goldeneye title. It's darker, more varied and quite atmospheric in remaining the Goldeneye essence. Controls work perfect in my opinion. I didn't expect anything from the game, but i was more than overwhelmed by the game. The game is made with lots of dedication and hard work, you can tell that by playing it.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

JGMR

Maybe the best in the series. It's definitely one of the most atmospheric games i've ever played. It's very dark most of the time, and yet very light-hearted at times. And it's lengthy too, as i've spend approximately 70 hours of exploration on this game.

Re: MundoRare Shuts Down After Losing Faith in Rare's New Direction

JGMR

I agree, although Rare themselves made the decision to leave. What Nintendo could've done was incorporating the company and rename them as Nintendo UK studios or something.

I am against M$ for a number of reasons. What does it tell people that a company brings hardware on the market that is 'potentially' defect? The Red ring (of death) is still a major problem, that isn't fixed. It shows us that they do not care, as long as you buy their crap.

Nintendo, had and will always have the best hard and software quality. period.
