@Mandoble Couldn't agree more. But unlike the Wiimote and Kinect, I actually see a lot of potential with the Wii U. Even if the screen is used for nothing more than the inventory or a map screen, it's still adding to the experience and making things easier.
I loved that in Crystal Chronicles, each player would use their GBA as a map screen and would get different information on it to share with others. It really promoted team worked and made it show the game itself didn't need a massive HUD.
@gamepopper Absolutely not true. Any game in a 3D environment needs camera control, even Ocarina of Time felt somewhat dated because of the lack of it alone.
Can you imagine playing something like Monster Hunter on the thing? There's not even any way to crab like there was on the PSP. I'm not in favour of a redesign at all, but the thing should have had two analogue sticks/nubs to begin with.
I can't believe for a second it could be the 3DS redesign. After going to the trouble of making the ambassador program so early adopters don't feel too sore, this would just be kicking them while they're down and announcing the 3DS was an utter failure out of the gate.
If it's true, they've definitely lost my support for the Wii U and any future handhelds.
Partnering with Apple (who are in no way innovative) would be the only thing that would make me hate them more after that.
I'm glad to see this is game doing so well. Unfortunately, there's just so much else I want to play and November is a ridiculously busy month. I hope to be able to play it by the end of the year though.
@Link79 Maybe you should be hoping they just make a better game this time? It's not like Twilight Princess was bad, but the reception it got was well deserved. It's easily the weakest of all the main Zelda games.
@TeeJay I can use the 3D and I'll also call it a stupid gimmick. It's a fad, it doesn't add anything to the gameplay (or the experience of watching movies) and it's straining on the eyes.
I would have preferred a cheaper system that ignored 3D. I'm interested to see how 3D develops as a technology, but in its current form, it's nothing but a fad that will die out in a matter of months and that's for the best.
@mumof2kids82 Costing more to make isn't a valid argument. 360 and PS3 games are rarely over £30-35 these days and PC games are even cheaper. It shouldn't cost just as much, if not more to buy games for the 3DS.
Especially with the huge market for indie games, Facebook titles and iPhone/Android games. People just aren't willing to spend that much on games any more, it is a big issue.
Early adopters have also been thoroughly screwed. I'd have sold mine, if the value hadn't just completely plummeted. Things are looking bad for the Wii U when Nintendo have even managed to annoy their hardcore supporters.
The Gameboy version is one of the worst versions of Pac-man out there. For the same price you can get a far better version on XBLA.. Hell, it's free on iPhone, Android and randomly typing in Pac-man to Google will get you better versions.
Absolutely ridiculous that they're trying to charge £4 for it. This is exactly why Nintendo is doing so badly right now, they're completely out of touch with the modern market.
Nintendo - this is why the 3DS is selling so badly. This needed to be a launch game, along with Starfox and Zelda. If these games weren't ready at the time, perhaps it was the wrong time to release the system?
Still, I can't say I'm too bothered as long as we still get Mario Kart and Mario Land this year. Delay those, and you're basically telling me to sell the god damn thing.
@cnm_nintendo Pokemon games wouldn't work because they rely on being able to connect to other players. That would require a lot more work than just dumping the roms onto the e-shop. Unless they do 3D classics of them (which they aren't continuing with), I don't think we'll see any of the old Pokemon games.
The "exclusive GBA games" will most likely appear on the 3DS eventually though, I think they're just focusing on Gameboy and Gameboy colour at the moment, so it could be a long wait.. but it will happen.
Can't help but feel Nintendo are toying with us a bit here. Ocarina of Time was always going to sell really well.. While Majora's Mask will never be as popular, a lot of the assets can simply be reusued, so it's not like it's going to be much work for them.
I don't believe for a second that they didn't start work on it the moment they were done with Ocarina.
@49: Gears of War isn't an FPS, and if you think that's the only title these guys have developed, you're incredibly ignorant. Just look at the variety of games this guy has worked on: Tyrian, Jazz Jackrabbit, Fat Princess, Shadow Complex.. Not to mention the Unreal series. Calling him a "one trick pony" is one of the most ludicrous things I've ever heard.
The Wii failed because it lacked titles like these. (yes I'm aware it was a financial sucess, but that doesn't change the fact it alienated gamers and software sales were very poor).
Can't say I'd be too interested in this as anything more than a collectors piece. I'd much rather see them do full remakes of the original three, at least to bring them up to the standards of the DS IV, V and VI.
@New_Age_Retro_Hippie: Why not just play the original version then?
November is a horrible time to release the game, there's so much coming out around that time. Releasing in summer where there's practically a game draught is a much better idea.. I guess it can't be helped, but this is just going to get burried by the likes of Skyrim, Halo and Uncharted now.
I'm still very disappointed with Nintendo's handling of the e-shop and of Europe in particular. Is this the high quality online service we can expect for the Wii U as well?
I really dislike how smug and overconfident Sony always are. They always takes unwarranted jabs like this at their competition and this is exactly why so many turned against them when they first announced the PS3. At least Microsoft have some class.
That said, they do have a point. As much as I love Nintendo, I've never been able to get behind the Wii, at no point did I feel like it was a console that was designed or aimed for me.. So finally releasing something that brings them on par with the PS3 and 360 is nothing to cheer for, it's what we should have gotten six years ago.
Looking forward to seeing what they do with it though. They're certainly going to be playing catch up, especially when it comes to online content.. I was expecting the 3DS e-shop to provide a much more modern service, but so far it's been as bad as ever.
I've been hoping they'd do this. Shantae is still the only good game I've played on the DSiWare, it's a shame I've never been able to play the original (I don't think it was even released in Europe).
I'm very disappointed about this.. I'll probably still buy the game, but I wasn't too fond of the New Super Mario Bros. games. N64 and Galaxy were the best of the series and it was because of the exploration.
I was planning on buying this game, but disappointed to see we're still stuck buying points in increments. I'm not paying £10 to download a £3 title, at least until there are other games I want to buy.
What happened to Zelda 3D and Link's Awakening? Would have been great to play those in the run up to Ocarina.
Disney do have a partnership with LEGO and the gameplay elements are unmistakeably similar, it's not surprising he's a little bit mad.
Also, although all the Lego games are quite similar, that doesn't mean they haven't "ripped it off". All the GTA games are very similar too, does that mean something like Saints Row just coincidentally copied the exact same formula?
Not having those horrible 3D sections from the modern games makes this version much more appealing, but I wasn't a huge fan of Rush either (stop with the booster pads and pits of death, thanks).
And yeah, it's likely this game just replaced Sonic 4 Episode 2. The game was very poorly received and just wasn't very good at all. This is looking more and more like the proper 'Sonic 4'. We might still hear about Episode 2 at E3, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's been completely cancelled.
If this was a launch game, I would have been all over it.. A little too late for me to be interested now, there's too many other great games releasing around the same time that I need.
@Link79 Sonic 4 was terrible and very badly received. Future episodes have likely been completely scrapped in favour of new games like this, or have been heavily delayed to be completely reworked.
@KrazyBean There's been controversy over Sonic for a long time now. A lot of us who played the original games back when they were first released don't like the direction they've taken with the later games, and Sonic's redesign to make him "edgier" reflects everything that's wrong with the modern games.
I'd be perfectly content if the game simply featured the classic Sonic content with the 2D levels, the modern stuff puts me off the game entirely.
Why limit this to specific stores? Content like this should be available to everyone online.. This just once again shows how archaic Nintendo's views on online content are.
@Warnerdan Let's not pretend they've delayed it to improve it in anyway. It's only been delayed by little over a week and is almost certainly just so they can hype it up at E3.
"Legend of Zelda DX demo" is worrying. Does that mean we're not getting the full game at launch? A 3D version of the original is great news though, there's a few things on here I'll definitely buy.
There's almost no chance of this getting an English release. Sales for the others (IX not withstanding) haven't exactly been amazing and they'd have to completely translate both versions of the game and the first two are almost archaic. It would be great, but don't get your hopes up.
We'll either see it released on the VC or have to wait for proper remakes.
Would have loved to see remakes for this on the 3DS, similar to what they did with IV, V and VI. Very disappointing to just see a bunch of roms thrown onto the Wii.
@starfox219 I think you're ignoring the issue. There may be some people out there that only care about how good games look, but when it comes down to it, people aren't going to play a bad game.
One of the reasons I think the Wii has suffered is because of its dated tech.. Not because the games look bad, but that they're prevented from doing games on a larger scale. Things like Grand Theft Auto or the Elder Scrolls series, which rely on huge open worlds that you're free to explore, are next to impossible on the Wii because of its limitations. They could scale things back and do these games on a much smaller scale but then they wouldn't be as fun because of this.
This is why many serious gamers have felt somewhat betrayed by Nintendo's latest efforts, they seem content with releasing rehashed games on gimmicky systems instead of actually improving or advancing gameplay. That's not to say I hate the Wii but I'm not happy with the direction they went with it.. Hopefully the new system gets things at least a bit more back on track.
Banjo-"threeie" already happened. Like the gameplay changes or not, Nuts & Bolts continued the story, and recaptured the style and humour perfectly. It was every bit a sequel and if they do make a new DS game, it'd most likely be a continuation of that (though not necessarily with the vehicles).
It's sad to see so many bad mouthing the game though, it was a huge departure but still a brilliant game.. along with Viva Pinata and Kameo, amongst the best Rare have ever made. Rare didn't go anywhere, the fans just turned on them.
Well we've already seen MS and Sony attempt to bring in the casual crowd and both are doing quite well at it. Kinect is selling millions and I'd expect to see them carry a lot of that forward with their next system. People are already complaining that they've "become the next Nintendo".
The Wii did so well when it launched, despite technical limitations, because it had an entire market to itself. It missed out on big third party games but it had an audience nobody else had. That's no longer the case.
@tealovertoma I think recapturing the hardcore audience is exactly what they're trying to do. But like you said, that doesn't mean they have to lose their new fans. They can keep releasing casual content, the machine is still rumoured to have motion controls and I'm sure they'll keep releasing games to suit them.
But these people bought very few games for the Wii, it had the poorest attach rate of any system, so appealing to the people who actually buy games is a must. I'm sure that's going to be their aim this time around.
@Jerryo I honestly have no idea what you're talking about, I'm speaking completely hypothetically. Like I said, Nintendo need to appeal to the more gaming orientated audience. If they release a system that's merely on par with current technology, they run the risk of being over shadowed when Microsoft release the Xbox 720 - which can do everything this new system can do but also has holographic imagers, which shoot the graphics directly into your brain. (obviously not, but see the point?)
The system needs to be viable in the long term, they know that Sony and Microsoft are working on new systems, it would be a terrible business move to release a system that could to be completely overshadowed within a year.
@ tealovertoma Just how long will it be until Microsoft and Sony announce new systems as well? The last thing Nintendo want is to be left behind again, especially if this system really is designed to recapture the market they lost with the Wii.
The PS3 was a bit of a failure at launch but it wasn't the fault of the tech. There were literally no decent games for the system that weren't also available on the 360 and the massive price just made owning one completely pointless, unless you were a massive fanboy.
Bit surprised to see them come out and announce this, but I guess they had no choice after all the rumours. Especially ones about it releasing this year, might have been quite damaging for them. Still, I'm sure they would have preferred to keep it a surprise until E3.
It does leave Microsoft in a poor position for E3 too, they're really going to have to pull out all the stops to keep people interested and hyping up more casual nonsense that most gamers don't care about won't suffice. (though I'm sure they learnt that after last year).
He said he'd like to see it in 3D, not that he wants to completely remake it. He actually said it'd be perfect for the 3D classics, which we know already consists of a few SNES games.
A lot of people are saying it can't happen because of the 3DS.. I don't really understand that. A new console isn't the same as a new handheld and we saw the Gamecube release the same year as the GBA.

Re: New Wii Design Could Go As Low as £80
Good price, but it's pretty obvious a last ditch effort to trick people into buying the system at Christmas before it's replaced next year.
Still, if you don't have one yet, it's well worth the price now, even if you were only going to play Mario Galaxy and Smash Brothers on the thing.
Re: Check Your 3DS Ambassador Status Now, North America
I'm guessing the games will be available before we're able to check in Europe :/

Mortal Kombat next, maybe? That's the one I've really been waiting for, the recent reboot was such a breath of fresh air for fighting games.
Tekken is still welcome though, as long as they've ditched those awful adventure modes.

Even XBLA, which has had its main game this week delayed in most territories, still has an infinitely stronger line up of content for the week.

(obviously not, but see the point?)
The system needs to be viable in the long term, they know that Sony and Microsoft are working on new systems, it would be a terrible business move to release a system that could to be completely overshadowed within a year.

@ tealovertoma
Just how long will it be until Microsoft and Sony announce new systems as well? The last thing Nintendo want is to be left behind again, especially if this system really is designed to recapture the market they lost with the Wii.
The PS3 was a bit of a failure at launch but it wasn't the fault of the tech. There were literally no decent games for the system that weren't also available on the 360 and the massive price just made owning one completely pointless, unless you were a massive fanboy.
Re: Nintendo Confirms New Console
Bit surprised to see them come out and announce this, but I guess they had no choice after all the rumours. Especially ones about it releasing this year, might have been quite damaging for them. Still, I'm sure they would have preferred to keep it a surprise until E3.
It does leave Microsoft in a poor position for E3 too, they're really going to have to pull out all the stops to keep people interested and hyping up more casual nonsense that most gamers don't care about won't suffice. (though I'm sure they learnt that after last year).
Re: Talking Point: StreetPass - Is Silent Communication the Future?
None, aside from friends..
Re: Another Zelda Remake for 3DS?
He said he'd like to see it in 3D, not that he wants to completely remake it. He actually said it'd be perfect for the 3D classics, which we know already consists of a few SNES games.
Re: Rumour: Wii 2 to Cost $350, Support 3DTVs, Out in October
A lot of people are saying it can't happen because of the 3DS.. I don't really understand that. A new console isn't the same as a new handheld and we saw the Gamecube release the same year as the GBA.
