@cornishlee That's not exactly right. Microsoft never owned Bioware, they simply published Mass Effect, which is exactly what Nintendo are doing in this situation. It's also exactly what happened with Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 on the Xbox. Those games were published by Microsoft but the developers eventually worked around that detail by releasing "different" versions of the games on the PS3.
It could be years or it might not ever happen, but these games COULD still make it to other platforms without Nintendo's involvement.
@TOMBOY25 Because you might buy it thinking you could play a game like Zombi U on the gamepad, without needing the TV at the same time, which is absolutely not the case. It may seem obvious to us, but they do imply that you don't need a TV to play the games, there's no indication that it'll only work on a select few games.
@LordJumpMad It's GameFreak handling the announcement, so it's one of the main games and it's a major enough announcement that it's getting a worldwide Nintendo Direct video. We also know it's a 3DS game, definitely nothing for the Wii U.
I don't expect them to show much beyond a logo and a new Pokemon or two, but it definitely isn't just going to be a spin-off or anything like that.
Lego City looks incredible. Everything else so far.. not so much. The Wii U needs more than just games that have been out for years on other platforms.
@3Dash Japanese hobby sites like Amiami or HLJ have them.
They're not being brought over to the US or anything like that. It's the same deal with the Mewtwo S.H.Figuarts, licencing problems. Nintendo seems to be very uncooperative.
@Grubdog I think you're slightly missing the point of achievements. Yes, many games misuse them and yes, many people sadly use them to boost their ego. But they're supposed to be there to add EXTRA goals and reward players for doing certain things you might not otherwise bother with.
They often just add an extra layer of challenges to a game and expand the replayability. Pretending like they're the scourge of gaming is just as ridiculous as going out and buying a game just to get more points.
This is a complete waste of time. If you're interested and for some reason haven't played the games yet, wait for them to release the trilogy on the Wii U, it's bound to happen.
Or better yet, just play the first one. The other two are significantly worse games, especially 3.
This ended badly for the 3DS, it seems like a mistake to repeat it. True, there's a bigger library of third party games this time, but when most of them are ports of year old (or older) PC/360/PS3 games, I'm not sure what the big draw should be.
The lack of Nintendo games is exactly why I won't be buying one near launch.
Being sandwiched between Diablo 3 and Torchlight 2 probably didn't help. The fact it was a 3DS game wasn't enough of a selling point for me. There are much better games in the genre you can play elsewhere.
@warvad Because the Wii Ware service was pretty much dead on arrival. These are new DS Pokemon games, they will definitely be localised. Even Nobunaga's Ambition and Pikachu's Typing have been released over here.
This is good news, I was really worried we were going to be loaded down with pointless guest characters. Sonic and Snake were great additions, but we don't need see barely recognisable JRPG additions.
Pac-man would be acceptable. He's a classic character that would fit in well, especially alongside Game & Watch.
@sykotek We very rarely get things like this and when we do, they tend to be very limited and expensive. Look at the rest of the stuff on our store, compared to everything you guys get on a regular basis.
These will most probably come to NA eventually too.
Considering there hasn't been a good Tekken or Soulcalibur game in years, this is pretty worrying. I also really do not want to see the game filled with stupid guest characters from hundreds of Namco franchises.
Not surprising, when they announced it last year it seemed like a desperate attempt at saying "we have games! really!!". Announcing it before it had even BEGUN development was pretty silly.
Dark Dawn had a lot of flaws, I especially didn't like that they pretty much disregarded everything from the previous games to try and sell it to a new audience. Focusing on those who were already interested would have been a better idea than making something that didn't appeal to anyone in the end.
@Leon_Pryde They come with interchangeable faces that clip on and off. You can easily order these from any Japanese import site, but I wouldn't expect them to ever be brought over to the US.
Figma are very details figures, designed for collectors. They aren't cheap $10 things you'd be able to buy in Walmart.
I'm really excited to get Link, it's just too bad they went with the Other M design for Samus. I want nothing to do with that game.
Disappointing. This new Tomb Raider looks really good and the Wii U need third party games that aren't just ports of games that were released over a year ago on other systems.
What they showed was alright, but there wasn't anything impressive and they completely failed to sell the Wii U. I'm more looking forward to the 3DS showcase tonight.
I think this is probably the first time I've been more excited for Nintendo's conference than any of the others (who have little to nothing this year).
Last year was also a huge step up for Nintendo, they seemed to have learned what people actually want to see at these shows and didn't just spend an hour showing pie charts.
@ChosenOne25 A lot of people will buy from retailers regardless. Some aren't tech savvy enough to know how to buy things digitally or simply prefer getting a physical box and instruction manual to use.
If digital games cost the same, what advantage is there?
@Mickeymac WoW is a massive, persistent online world that gets new content added regularly. DQX functions much like Guild Wars 1, you meet up with people in a town, form parties then go out and complete missions in instanced areas. By strict definition, it's not an MMORPG and shouldn't have a monthly fee.
They're charging one, simply because they know people will pay it. It's exactly the same as what happens with Monster Hunter in Japan.
There is absolutely no offline mode. The tutorial is played offline and that's it. I'm really surprised by that, considering the amount of backlash, I really expected them to massively delay the game and go back to rework it.
Charging people to play a Guild Wars 1 style MMO just isn't going to fly (especially with games like GW2 coming out), so it'll be interesting to see how they handle it when it's eventually released over here. I've loved every entry in the series, but I'm not prepared to pay monthly for this one.
@47drift What was innovative about Skyward Sword compared to the likes of Little Big Planet, Portal or the hoards of highly original and unique indie games? Skyward Sword was good, but not innovative in the slightest, it was just another Zelda game, albeit with a bit more focus on the story.
The fact Portal 2 received so much praise and Call of Duty was completely ignored speaks volumes about their credibility. They didn't even just go crazy over Skyrim, like almost everyone else has.
@FonistofCruxis Other than FIFA, which is obviously only there because of how big the series/football is in the UK, I don't see anything wrong with the picks.
@Joshers744 It probably deserves a spot for story over Skyrim (which is a game with great lore and side stories, but a disappointing main story). Portal 2 pretty much has it in the bag though.
@stromboli I hope you now realise that the show Power Rangers is based on (Super Sentai) predates the Transformers by over a decade and has been running continually for 36 years.
(so no you guys, the green and white rangers from MMPR were NOT the originals, they're considered little more than a footnote in the grand scheme of things..)
Don't mean to rain on the parade, as I'm sure the game is really good.
But why do Famitsu scores continue to be reported on by news sites, when they openly admit to the fact their review scores are influenced by the publishers and advertising space? A perfect score from Famtisu means nothing besides the fact the game is being seriously hyped.
@PALgamer I'm sure there was some exaggeration, but I'm not sure I believe his version of the story. I certainly don't believe the whole "it was my friend.. but I said it was me to take the blame!" part.
@TrueWiiMaster If you're going to be offended by them re-writing some parts of history in this game or by killing American (and British) forces, then yes, I'd stay away from the game. It's NOT going to paint the Americans as saints, nor should it.
@Duney Then why not simply include Hoenn is a second region in one of the new games? It gives us a chance to revisit it, while giving the younger gamers a chance to explore a completely new region as well, without simply rehashing exactly the same thing.
I really hope we don't see a Ruby/Sapphire remake ever. It made sense for the first two games, for a way to redistribute those Pokemon and for their huge popularity. But do we need remakes of every single one of the games?
At this rate, we'll have a Black & White remake in a few years, and for a franchise where each game is so similar to the last, that's just completely unnecessary.
This is hardly surprising. Microsoft and Sony have been trying to push their consoles more and more as multimedia platforms, the next generation will be geared towards that even more.
I'm really looking forward to Animal Crossing, It'd be very disappointing if it didn't make it this year. The 3DS has finally hit its stride and has had some really good releases, but they need to keep those coming now.
Monster Hunter I wouldn't expect this year, if at all. I could see them waiting until 4, which seems to be quite a step up and might appeal to the western audience more.
@MasterGraveheart I doubt it'll rival the big two. Microsoft spend a lot of years and money developing XBL and PSN has slowly been playing catch up since it launched.
Nintendo has been very reluctant to move into this territory, so I very much doubt they're going to instantly be better, especially in terms of the social networking and DLC add on content. But it's at least a step in the right direction.
I really enjoyed the first one, I'd definitely be up for a sequel.
Like others said though, the character/stage selection in the original were a little disappointing. Include the obligatory Sonic stuff, by all means, but they need to realise a lot of people were interested in the game, simply because of the inclusion of Ryo, Beat and the Chu Chu's, etc. We need a much better variety this time.
(Include Vyse and this will instantly be a day one purchase).

My bets are on the "Rainbow/Anniversary" rumours being true, with a new Dragon Eevee being shown.

Although it will, eventually.
Re: Team Ninja Interested in Another Nintendo Collaboration

I also like that it's not the anime Pikachu design.
