Re: Talking Point: When Did 'Good Enough' Become Good Enough For Pokémon?

HellbladesFFXI

I actually like the recent games. Say what you will, but I think that the switch era of games are fine. BDSP maybe a little unfair with the champion having near perfect IVs, but outside of that the games are just fine to me. In fact, I would prefer them over the original games, and I say that as someone whose first game was Yellow. Yes the older games has nostalgia, but there's so many improvements to the newer games from ease of access to TMs not being limited, to the stories being interesting (Though perhaps admittedly that story aspect was better in gens 4, 5, and 7), and while I don't agree with some changes, I think it's tried to do enough to keep the series new and fresh despite having to stay in its genre.

I don't care for trying ZA, but that's because I don't like the Legends series. If I wanted to play an action RPG I'd go play a modern FF game. I don't. So I'll stick with classic style Pokemon and retro FF games.

Re: Anniversary: SNES Action RPG 'Terranigma' Is 30 Years Old Today, And It's Still A 10/10 In Our Book

HellbladesFFXI

You're not going to like this, but I actually dislike the game. I find that it does so many things wrong that it upsets me that it COULD be a 9/10 (I never rate 10/10 because something could always be improved) but in its current state I feel it's only a 6/10, maybe 7/10.

Graphics and music is where the game excels. It's beautiful and sounds amazing, each of the tracks are fitting for where they are played outside of a couple of reused tracks. But those tracks are still good, so it's forgivable.

Story is... Great at first. The end of the game though? Sucks. I don't even call the ending bittersweet, it's just purely bitter. I wouldn't give any spoilers here but just ugh.

Gameplay was okay if VERY repetitive. The previous games in the Soul Blazer series had ways of breaking up the combat but the magic system in Terranigma is horrible and poorly explained. Magirocks aren't expendable, they're more like magic slots, if you have 10 you can keep 10 magirocks worth of spells on you, and as you use magic, you get the rocks back. But as interesting as that is, magic can't be used in boss fights (With one exception that I found), even healing spells. Which just means, why bother?

If you like/love the game, that's fine. Please, don't let my bitter experience ruin it for you. But I can't give it a high rating.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Explains Why Donkey Kong Has Been Redesigned

HellbladesFFXI

@Zufolobelisk That's exactly it. In the original donkey Kong country, cranky even confirms that he was the original donkey Kong. I think it was dkc1 anyway, maybe I have the wrong game but I do know that was confirmed and canonized. Either way, as I said before, it might end up being an awesome change. It seems strange on the outset because all the still images are pretty terrible, but as we know from plenty of other media, still images are not the best way to judge an animated model. I say this having missed the actual direct because of work and not having the desire or time to go back and watch the VOD lol

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Explains Why Donkey Kong Has Been Redesigned

HellbladesFFXI

My opinion is they basically made DK Jr into a full grown adult, because that's who our lovable DK is. DK Jr.

I personally prefer the Rare design for the moment, but that opinion is subject to change once I actually play games with this new DK. He might be awesome, won't know till I literally see him in action.

Re: Poll: Final Fantasy IV - Do You Prefer The Original Or The DS Remake?

HellbladesFFXI

I don't care for the animation design on the DS remake honestly. Sure the original had encounter rate problems (Looking squarely at the final dungeon especially, here), but there's something about seeing Golbez's severed hand crawl across the ground after he's defeated, only to discover he gets BETTER, that only the pixel remaster really captured for me. But hey, way I look at it, original or remake, if you love the game then you're one of us =D FF4 in any form is great.

Re: Random: Metroid Prime's OG Engineer Isn't Happy About The Remastered Doors

HellbladesFFXI

I noticed something was off about the doors but I couldn't point out what. But, honestly? They look great still, and the rest of the game (Minus the Thermal Visor) has been a joy so far. Reliving a part of my childhood in better controls (Was never a fan of 'New Play' controls from the Wii, so...) And in greater detail? Absolutely worth it. Really, the Thermal Visor I think is the only thing actually damaged, though it feels like more of a reason not to keep it on all the time perhaps. Which I never did anyway so eh. I can deal with the minor inconvenience.

Re: Talking Point: What's The Deal With The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Switch Release?

HellbladesFFXI

I literally had no problem with the base font for PC, why does this seem to bother so many people? Yes, it's not the classic font, but who cares?

I swear, being a game dev, especially on a remake/remaster, is hell. You either change too much and piss off people cause it's too different or change nothing and get called lazy for your literal weeks or months of work.

Personally, I loved my time with every game in the collection, exception to 3, but that's my dislike of the game itself not the remake's fault. It was worth every penny of the price I paid on steam. I just have no desire to buy it again since I never leave home with my switch lol

Re: Poll: Is Zelda: Wind Waker's Hero Called 'Cat-Eye Link'?

HellbladesFFXI

I'm curious why they call him "cat-eye" at all, as his eyes aren't slanted as a cat's eyes. In fact, anyone who draws eyes uses that general shape, what about it is cat-like that isn't human-like? Hm. Think I'll stick to calling him Toon Link as at least that makes some semblance of sense, being Young Link in a cartoon-style.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Pokémon Scarlet And Violet?

HellbladesFFXI

@jowe_gw I respect your opinion but I've honestly never noticed an issue with actual frame rate myself. But that's probably because frame rates don't matter to me personally so long as then game isn't skipping wildly. To each their own though.

Time doesn't really matter though, because they have RE-released Skyrim for new consoles, literally rewriting the code for newer languages, without fixing issues they already had. Kinda why I still count it.

Now, you are right about BOTW, for sure. But... I don't care for BOTW myself, mostly because I'm super critical of a couple of mechanics that throw it right out for me personally lol.

I still rate Scarlet high myself for my own enjoyment.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Pokémon Scarlet And Violet?

HellbladesFFXI

@jowe_gw First off, frame rate really isn't a problem on my game, maybe you didn't update it? Idk.

But the reason I personally compare it to Skyrim is this. Bethesda has made MANY, MANY open world games before Skyrim. They should have known how to fix these problems that SV are running into and could have. But choose not to when making that game as their focus was elsewhere, and no one cared. GF have literally never made an open world game before, and they took baby steps into it, to poor critical acclaim because their fan base is literally impossible to please at this point I guess. But their first full step into open world is, certainly not perfect, but very solid. I agree that sure, the issues of 1.0 should have been fixed without a day one patch, but overall it's the game I was looking forward to and more so far. People need to stop expecting perfection, they haven't been perfect from the first gen but we still (mostly) love them, flaws and all. Well, mostly. Some of gen 1's bugs though. >.> BUT This is all just my honest opinion.

Edit: Oh something else, the only frame drops I've had are actually hard coded low-poly maneuvers to save strain on the system. It's FAR too close, sadly, so it's really noticable, but if you pay attention, it clears up as you approach things. That's all I've seen personally.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Pokémon Scarlet And Violet?

HellbladesFFXI

Honestly, the low-poly effects causing choppy npc frame rate is about the only true negative thing I could point out from my hours of play thus far. I love the characters, I appreciate the effort going into the actual open world design... Sure it can be argued there's still a "path" to follow but you aren't forced to do that really. If you wanted to get strong enough to break that, you can. Only time it's frustrated me was me beating my head into a battle I had no right to fight, and I STILL ended up on top after a couple of tries. Only thing in going to say is if Skyrim gets a free pass for it's glitchy *****, and it's even the 5th game in a series of open world games, Pokemon should get at least a little credit for a first REAL attempt at it. Legends Arceus isn't enough open world to truly be compared, so they really have no experience in it. As a first try, I think it's turned out great so far.

Re: Video: "This Was My Attempt To Redeem The Story Of Silent Hill 3" - Revisiting Shattered Memories With Sam Barlow

HellbladesFFXI

I have to say I feel SH3 was a better game overall.
Now, as a Re-imagining, Shattered Memories was pretty decent. Being on the Wii, the controls were, outside of a few times it didn't work right, were fantastic for a horror game.
But it has a lot of flaws as well, moreso than most of the early SH games IMHO. The package as a whole just didn't work for me personally.
