While everyone was thinking "Aw yeah! Sega All-Stars Racing 3, baby!" MY mind immediately jumped to "Oh, cool; they're FINALLY bringing 'Sonic Prime' into the main gaming universe." I mean, I can't be the ONLY one who noticed that the coloring on the word "CrossWorlds" (specifically the "Worlds" part) is VERY similar to that used for "Prime," right?
On the one hand, if I'm right, then I'll be glad to see the story of Prime acknowledged and continued... AND in a GAME, no less! On the other hand, turning the darker, action-oriented series into a RACING game, of all things, just seems... WRONG, somehow...
As a side note, anyone else notice the "eye" right before "Coming Soon"? Maybe if we can figure out who it belongs to, it'll provide a clue as to what the game is REALLY about!
Y'know, I have often found my myself thinking about thinking about the 2001+ Era of gaming, and how fascinating it was to have the same game available on multiple platforms, and how the handheld port could be quite different from their home console brotheren. How the handheld version could be unique from, and even surpass, the home console game was truly mind-bogling. It was a great and magical time to be alive!
Also, shout-out to the Urbz, BOTH versions of them, with their unique environments and interesting gameplay loop. The handheld version was even one of my favorite games to play on the GBA when I grew up as a kid, a surprisingly solid experience that still holds a special place in my heart even to this day! And what's best is that, because people tend to think handheld ports are inferior, they will typically sell their copies for dirt cheap. I even recently tracked down a physical copy of the DS version of the game and started a second playthrough of the game (the first one being on the GBA, of course!) so I could experience the new additions to the game myself (and it serves as a nice loophole to exploit to bypass my "never play through a game twice" rule lol)
It's also nice to see that these handheld spin-off The Sims ports are coming back into the public's consciousness in recent times, after so many years of spent being in obscurity.
Honestly, I personally think that calling it the "Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy" is rather appropriate.
I mean, think about it: "Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney" was the first game to introduce him; and while "Dual Destinies" was more about Athena than anyone else, it at least provided some major character development for Apollo. Meanwhile, even though Phoenix Wright gets top billing in "Spirit of Justice" it was all about Apollo's growth into a capable Defense Attorney in his own right, enough to rival even Phoenix himself.
Now it makes me wonder what the next Trilogy of games will be collectively called...
While I didn't get nearly everything I wanted for my 3DS - I still have a ton of DLC and Themes that I never got the chance to buy - I'm satisfied with what I have. Just need a couple more DSiWare, and I'm all set.
Glad I don't have a Wii U, or else I'd be in debt! If anything, though, I'll be glad once the eShops close down next week, so I'll no longer have to scramble around trying to buy everything for FOMO reasons...
Now I can focus on Vita titles, and then the Switch!
@HammerGalladeBro The worst part about that was that both games were only available for a short time, and you could only ever earn enough to get ONE of them in that timeframe, but Nintendo gave NO INDICATION that there was a WRONG choice to this!
I ended up choosing wrong and permanently missing out on the WarioWare: Touched download because of this... And I'm sure I wasn't the only one, either...
@TheBigBlue For a short time, My Nintendo had a DSiWare Version of WarioWare: Touched (and no, it was NOT the WarioWare: Snapped DSiware) available as a reward for 1000 Platinum Coins...
I used to have the "Pokémon Gold and Silver Game Boy Color" Handheld Console... for all of 2 minutes, after which we realized the screen wasn't working. We sent it in for repairs, and were promised a replacement, but... I never got one...
While I didn't have it long, I do remember the Gold/Silver-Color-Changing Gimmick it had, and how it felt so magical at the time!
The 3DS was the first Gaming System that truly got me outside of my Comfort Zone and trying different Genres and Series that I never would have given another thought to, and for that, I will be forever grateful to this Ambitious Handheld!
@Rainz Oh, don't get me wrong, I already have the all of the Mainline games downloaded on the 3DS! I just figured I'd mention how frequently Capcom games go on sale on the 3DS eShop, so as to give other people who are interested hope that they'll do one final sale before closure.
I agree with you, though: there ARE so many great Hidden Gems on the 3DS, but so little time to get them, and those that are still waiting on a discount might be Out-of-Luck, unfortunately...
Glad you posted this article. It reminded me that I have a code for the Wii U Version, that I got when I purchased the 3DS Game. However, as I don't currently have a Wii U - and don't plan on getting one any time soon - I have no idea what to do with it...
I don't want it just going to waste, so does anyone know of a place where I can trade it for something else - or, at the very least, give it away to someone for free?
I don't suppose that maybe someone here might want it...?
@SpiritOfTheHero From what I've heard and understand, it's a Japan Law. Apparently, if you advertise a sale as "Final" there, then it's exactly that; you can't do anymore sales. Which is what Atlus did during their LAST sale...
Keep in mind, this doesn't affect the rest of us. These discounts could still happen here.
@JDulay I appreciate what you're doing here, giving the eShop one last "Hurrah! and allowing it to go out with a bang!
While I haven't actually PLAYED any of your games (Horror games aren't typically my thing), I DO own all of you're 3DS releases, and plan on getting the Switch games at some point (I don't have a Wii U, and have no interest in getting one right now).
I'm eagerly anticipating these last two 3DS games, and am looking forward to whatever you make in the future! Thank you for all of the dedication you're putting into this! I just hope that all the time and effort you're putting into these "Last Minute" releases is considered worthwhile, since they're not going to be available for long...
@Rainz I came here just to say EXACTLY this! These games frequently go on sale for $5 a pop, and I'm sure Capcom will do one more before the eShop closure. And, yes, while these games will likely come to Switch, you're never going to get them for as cheap as that. Seriously, you can pick up all 4 Main Titles on 3DS at a discount for as much as Apollo Justice 3D (the cheapest of the 3DS Ace Attorney Games) at full price ALONE! And it's great having the entire mainline series available on one system, too!
This raises a lot of questions in me. Mainly, questions like: What happens when you encounter the egg?; Does the game lock up?; Does the egg terastallize?; Does it have any moves it can use?; Can you catch it?; What happens when you do?; Can you battle with it?; Will it hatch?; What will it hatch into?; Can you get rid of it?; Will it corrupt or otherwise negatively affect with you're save?; Will affected players be compensated for this?; Should I NOT update my game and purposely activate this Glitch just so I can get a "Compensation-Reward" too lol?
It's worth noting that, since the "Fly-a-chu" Mystery Gift has already expired since yesterday, there is currently no "Get via Internet" Event available at this moment in time, so this would be a perfect opportunity to distribute SOMETHING to apologize for this error...
I also have ANOTHER question: How do I get my Switch Games to Update Automagically WITHOUT my input? As it stands, I can only seem to get them to update if I go to each game and select them one-by-one just to check if they need updating, which, as you can imagine, gets rather tedious after a while...
While I do love the CONCEPT of the Paradox Pokemon, I hate how they they handled the execution of the Future Forms in particular. They're just Roboticized-Versions of regular, pre-existing Pokemon - which, ordinarily, I'd find cool, as I'm a sucker for Robotic Forms of Organic Beings - but the fact that they altered nothing else about how they look just makes them seem less inspired than the Past Forms.
About the only really interesting one, Design-Wise, is probably "Iron Valiant," which looks like what you'd get if you Spliced the Genes of a Gallade and Gardevoir - which "Gene-Splicing" Various Creatures is also a thing I'm a sucker for - and then Roboticized the outcome, of course!
Actually, the fact that all Future Paradox Pokemon have "Iron" in their names just reeks of laziness. It's like they put more thought and effort into Scarlet than they did Violet...
Also, can I give a Shout-Out to "Blueberry Academy," named after my Favorite Fruit! I've been on a personal quest to try EVERYTHING that's Blueberry Flavored, and now you're telling me I get to attend a University themed around the stuff?! AWESOME! lol
@gaga64 Y'know, when I first saw it, I thought for sure that the Animatronic Pikachu was supposed to be hinting at a Detective Pikachu 2 announcement, since it looked so much like the Movie-Version of Detective Pikachu lol!
I feel that this was, in my personal opinion, a gross disappointment...
...I mean, don't get me wrong, if you're a fan of the competitive/cooperative side of Pokemon, than this was probably a massive treat for you, as there's a lot to digest. But as I tend to shy away from stuff like that (as I SUCK at it & will only hold people down lol), then the only exciting thing for me was the Scarlet/Violet DLC and maybe the Pokemon Concierge Netflix Series...
Of course, this was the first Pokemon Presents I ever watched, so maybe they're ALL like this...?
Another particular instance I had trouble with is the aforementioned infamous "Barrel of Doom" from Sonic the Hedgehog 3's Carnival Night Zone.
While, yes, there ARE only two things on the controller you can work with, those being the Control Pad & Jump Buttons; the FIRST thing you're probably going to try is jumping on it...
...which produces an IMMEDIATE response from the barrel. Going from this, you'll note that, each time you jump on it, the barrel will dip even lower and lower with each consecutive jump. So you'd be forgiven for believing this is the way to solve this "puzzle," to no avail...
And the saddest and worst thing about all of this is, it IS entirely possible to pass it by jumping on it multiple times! I remember watching my brother figure out the timing once when we were WAY younger many years ago, when the game was first released...
Oh, Yeah! Now I remember one. It's concerning the Master Ball in Pokemon Silver. Used it on a Jynx, because, from what I remember, they were rare and had a tendency to flee. Oh, well. At least I was able to catch the other Legendaries with tons of Ultra Balls instead. Though I now have a tendency to catch all the Legendaries in the various games with Ultra Balls, leaving the Master Ball essentially unused in all my playthroughs lol!
I sure hope these "Countdown Spotlight" articles aren't just going to be retreads of what has already been mentioned in all the other "Things to Get Before the 3DS/Wii U eShops Close Forever" lists...
... Because, while I DO understand why you'd want to do it this way, since the original lists are buried deep within the site and are probably difficult to find right now; I feel that, ideally, THIS list should be made up of other hidden gems and notable titles that weren't mentioned in those articles, so that people can use all of these lists to create an ultimate checklist of everything you should get. Just a suggestion, of course...
I'm going to enjoy these "Countdown Spotlight" articles, even if only the 3DS-Focused ones are going to be useful to me.
I luckily have the Special Edition Version of Fates (though I only have the Cartridge, nothing more). Found it last year in a lone box left in a forgotten corner of the house (along with several other goodies) while we were doing some Spring Cleaning. We have no idea where any of this stuff came from or how long it's been there, and nobody here actually remembers getting anything...

Re: Poll: Which Nintendo Switch Online Console Do You Play The Most?
@Rudolf Ah, really? I wasn't aware of that. Thanks for the info! Perhaps I'll save my money and check out the NSO Genesis games after all.
Re: Poll: Which Nintendo Switch Online Console Do You Play The Most?
I've been playing the "Nintendo 64" games the most, since I'm prioritizing the more expensive "Expansion Pass" content first. Since many of the NES/GB(C) and even some of the SNES/GBA games that I'm interested in are currently available on the 3DS, most of which I have, I figured I'd skip playing them in favor of the games that aren't available on that system. I'd also like to play these games as officially as possible. I do have some N64 games on my Wii, but the ability to replay them wherever I'm at without needing to use a TV is just too good an opportunity to pass up (even though it violates my "Never Play Through A Game Twice" rule), since I'm mainly a handheld-exclusive gamer (never even hooked my Switch up to the dock)!
