I have several issues with this review. The biggest one, I think, is that you gave Gates (arguably the worst entry in this franchise with its bismal story and lack of Pokemon and content) an 8/10. Yes, I know the score doesn't make the game, but you praise Gates for doing things that you criticize in this one. Part of this problem, I think, is that I don't believe the same reviewer review both games. Personally, I would've liked to see this review written by the man who wrote the review for Gates, as I felt he understood the game's inherent mechanics and all, and he went in knowing the staples and troubles of Mystery Dungeon games to judge it as a mystery dungeon game.
@darthllama Actually, from what I understand, the game was long since finished. They just never found a publisher for it. Granted, they would have to rebuild the game for Wii U, but the 3DS version should be safe
I think they were talking about the Wii U, actually. It might just be a bunch of self-entitled brainiac journalist(s) trying to make a clever statement or something along the lines of "Wii U is FINALLY a next gen not really".
@Squid ....That would be really surprising in all the wrong ways. After all, most of the animated trailers (yeah, they're not in-game footage, but point remains) show the characters interacting with one another. Removing that aspect, which they are clearing advertising, would seem like a giant misstep in my opinion.
Is @Tsuchinoko still in Japan (on that matter, is he still a part of this site)?
I'd love someone to inform me, and the rest of the Persona fanbase, whether or not Persona Q has social links/character interactions of any kind, or if it's another chess-piece story like Etrian Odyssey (the lack of character personality, along with some bad dungeoneering mechanics, really bothered me in EOIV).
I played through this game, and I have to say: apart from looking great and playing swell (though the later bits are either too easy or too hard), the game is a slippery slope downhill from grace. Not to spoil anything, but the story leaps off the rails at one point and goes in multiple bizarre directions just to force some philosophy down your throat. At that point, several plot holes pop up and turn this game into a jumbled mess.
Wait... Wait... That's clearly a newly made GameCube controller (judging by the decal sticker anyway), so why not just make new wireless GameCube controllers that are compatible with the Wii U?
I'm still unclear why the name is being dropped. I know it's because Natsume isn't behind the project, but why aren't they localizing it?
Also, can't the game simply be renamed "Farm Story"? I know that's what fogu's (a pretty big HM/RF community forum) Harvest Moon section is titled. (They say Ushi no Tane, and since I don't know Japanese myself, I'll trust this translation.)
You know, I think Diancie might have something to do with the Anistar Sundial or the Couriway Train Station. After all, someone at the Anistar Sundial mentions how there is "great treasure" hidden "where the sundial's shadow falls." Think about it; the sundial is a giant, magical rock that has a very fairy-like motif (similar colors too).
Wait, so is the game closer to the main series in gameplay, or is it closer to Etrian Odyssey? I didn't find myself particularly interested in the gameplay of the latter.
@AVahne All I want to know is if the animations and textures (don't even get me started on the grass...) are going to be as insultingly bad as they were in ANB...
As strange as this sounds, I wish Harvest Moon would take some cues from the Rune Factory series, especially in the character department (the cast of RF4 gradually grow a spell over time, which I think is a really nice detail).
How many of the Wii accessories do you need to play the Wii Sports Club games? Also, what are the respective prices for rental and purchase of each game?
I might be wrong on this, but I'm convinced Natsume has partial ownership (if not full ownership) on the RF IP itself. After all, it was marketed as a "fantasy Harvest Moon" for 2/3 of the series...
@Yukari_Sendo Okay, so you actually went for Amber... I dunno, she always seemed too childish for my tastes. Whenever I pass by with Forte, she goes "Aww... That looks like fun!", something I've never heard any teen/young adult say, ever. Amber's character should be loved more as a child than a bachelorette IMO.
Sonic isn't that bad. Like most games (with the exception of 06 and Secret Rings), some enjoyment can be found despite the issues. (Yes, I liked Shadow the Hedgehog, and I have met another living, breathing human who liked it too.)
@Pixel-Perfect Sadly not; they did try to implement it in a previous Harvest Moon game, but they got a lot of crap for it before the game even went international (not because it had same-sex relations, but because of how they treated it as something childish and worth-undermining). Since Natsume/Marvelous knows just how backwards the rest of the world can be at times, they chose to play it safe on that front.
Let us focus on the greater issue here: the fact that the US government is so dysfunctional, it can't even bother properly stocking it's overseas, and other, bases, yet somehow, the lazy people sitting beneath the roof of the White House still get paid in this madman's shuffle.
No joke: Rune Factory 4 grabbed my expectations by the neck and launched them into orbit; it was just an amazing game, and I have no doubts this will not let me down.
I played the demo, and I was somewhat disappointed... The characters are literally just blank templates with zero substance. I know the review said this wasn't a character-driven game, but this is just sad... Everyone's just as disposable as the next, being nothing more than art.
The dungeons are hard for sure, but the effects are really bad. I'm not the biggest fan of the 1st person dungeon either, since the 3D is mostly useless.
@element187 The way you're describing it sounds a lot like SMTIV (which I'm totally okay with). I'll just download the demo and get a general idea of what's going on.

I wanna echo @snoox's concerns as well...
I personally can't draw people to save myself, so I'm wondering if this has a tutorial or at least templates of some sort.

Meh, it's just an aesthetic change, so I don't really care.
That said, didn't GameFreak try and implement that little pentagon-thingy to check if Pokemon are legit or not?

Speaking of which, does anyone know if Soul Harckers' story/endings are as morbid and scarring as SMTIV's?

Re: Atlus Knocks 10 Bucks Off Code of Princess, Soul Hackers and Etrian Odyssey IV in The North American 3DS eShop
@Aqueous Does this have an overworld like SMTIV, or does it play like DEvil Summoner/Soul Hackers where it's only text?
