While the arrival of Game Boy Advance games on the Wii U Virtual Console — as opposed to the 3DS equivalent — caused head scratching earlier this year, the undeniable positive is the release of a host of high quality titles on the system. We can now add another Capcom spin-off to that list, with the excellent Mega Man Zero available on the Wii U eShop in North America right now, ahead of the usual download update.
Its arrival is to celebrate Mega Man's birthday, and we were big fans of this GBA entry in our retro review, giving it 8/10. Brutally difficult but with an awesome soundtrack and intense sword-based action — among other weapons — it's well worth consideration for fans of the franchise.
Nintendo has also confirmed some discounts on other Mega Man games, available from now until 08:59 Pacific time on 22nd December; the details are below.
3DS eShop
- Mega Man II — $1.49 (normally $2.99)
- Mega Man III — $1.49 (normally $2.99)
- Mega Man IV — $1.49 (normally $2.99)
Wii U eShop
- Mega Man 5 — $2.49 (normally $4.99)
- Mega Man 6 — $2.49 (normally $4.99)
- Mega Man 7 — $3.99 (normally $7.99)
Are any of you in North America planning to pick up Mega Man Zero or any of these offers? Let us know in the comments below.
Thanks to Thomas (Aqueous) for the heads up.

MegaManniversary.
I dig it,
Megaman 7 is normally $5? Isn't that a Super NES game, and thus more expensive?
Nintendo has done more with the Blue Bomber this year than Capcom has done in the past 4 years.
Well I'm going to snatch the 3DS games
Now regarding your EU customers Capcom...
Cant wait to get home and download all these games. Love all the attention Nintendo is giving the blue bomber.
@sinalefa yeah the game is. Its currently $3.99
Those are the 3 GB games from the series I don't have. I'll definitely be getting 'em!
Thanks Capcom, love your sales! I will now pick up 5,6,7. I will get Zero sometime down the line.
I thought Mega Man 7 was usually $7.99 due to it being a SNES game.
Yeah is MegaMan 7 really $5 normally? That's really surprising for a SNES game. I'm guessing this is just a mistake though.
OMG what a treat! Zero is my favorite MEGA!
Ahem...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Why does Europe never get any of these bonus discounts? We didn't get anything from Black Friday either! DANGIT NINTENDO!
which one of the 3ds games would you recommend me?
Megaman 7 is $3.99, originally $7.99
@whodatninja You guys got much better deals earlier in the year. We only had four games to choose from to get with Mario Kart 8 for free, and our deals during the Smash Bros. Character sales weren't nearly as good as yours.
Awesome, i was just saying yesturday that I'm going to download all the megaman games. That wall of megaman VC is going to be beautiful!
Which versions of MM2-4 are discounted? NES or GameBoy?
@Olmectron I was about to say....
Oh awesome! I should pick up the Gameboy titles while they're cheap! Thanks Nintendo Life.
@allav866
GameBoy
@hypercoyote Well, @sinalefa and @blaze8937 commented about that before, so I got together what they said.
Here is the official game's page, by the way: http://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/7ew78PyUUm12nj-yYNFqJO2T0FplkxK2
@Olmectron I wonder when they will finally start letting you purchase all the eShop items from the website.
Also, just waiting on that discount for Megaman V for GB. Anytime, Capcom....
@hypercoyote Maybe when they announce a perfected account system. I think it's not that far by now, specially considering Nintendo giving more importance to the eShop (discounts, easy ways to buy, and so on).
I consider the ability to buy so little games from nintendo.com is due to this being an experiment/first trial of what is to come.
@Olmectron Yea, I guess it is a pretty niche function. The majority of users likely purchase directly from their devices, but it would be nice to browse from a PC versus the somewhat slow interface of the WiiU eShop.
EU is getting a 64 surprise tomorrow
So like somebody posted, $3.99 for MM7, I think $9 for 3 great games is good. I want to get pretty much a lot of (or at least a majority) the Mega Man games, so I shouldn't pass up this deal.
Zero is a masterpiece. 2 is even better and refines almost every shortcoming of the first game. 3 and 4 (the latter of which I have a particularly soft spot for) are awesome as well.
Wall to wall it's my favorite Mega Man series, because the quality never dropped and the experience never stagnated. A brilliant set of games.
Sweet! Time to round off MegaMan collection.
Megaman!
Very cool. My collection is nearly complete.
No EU? Shame. I have an imported copy of Megaman Zero Collection anyway, I guess.
Never played Mega Man Zero before! As a huge fan of the franchise, I'm glad to finally have a chance.
As for the sale, all is fine and dandy, but what they should really do is release a all-in-one pack. Say, Mega Man 1-6 on Wii U for 10-12 bucks.
Its a shame that its the Game Boy Mega Man 2-4 on sale. Sure, 3 and 4 are great, but I really wanted NES 2-4 to go on sale.
I'll be nabbing those GB games for my 3DS, I'll watch a video review for ll, but for now I think I'll skip it. Might nab 7 on U, too.
Calling Mega Man Zero just a "spinoff" is unfair. It's one of the best games in the GBA library and in the franchise.
I hope this means we get another vc game tomorrow being Zero is a day early. Heaven forbid Nintendo goes past 2 vc games released in the same week!!!!
I got Mega Man 4, 5, and 6 as soon as the sale popped up.
Is there anything about the Mega Man Zero Collection that makes it better than the individual GBA games?
Sold!
i already downloaded them
Now if only we got deals like this in Scotland.. Nope, we didn't get Black Friday AND our Club Nintendo rewards include key rings and stickers, NOT GAMES!
Europeans crying for this.
Go play DKC 1-3
As soon as I saw Mega Man 7 at a discount I snatched it up immediately since I have wanting to play that game for quite some time.
Snatched Mega Man 7 for $4.
To be honest Im suprised these Mega Man games aren't mediocre. I definently need to play one soon. Any suggestions?
@Thomas - I'm shocked I wasn't beat to this sale. Also Megaman 7 is normally 7.99, marked down to 3.99.
@LinktotheFuture
Having them all in one place, not waiting for the next to be released, and (potentially) having them all cheaper.
Otherwise...not really. The bonus features didn't do much for me, but if you're a completionist by nature maybe you'll enjoy unlocking all the art. Then again, there's no shortage of stuff to collect in the actual games, so that may not be much of a selling point.
There's also an easy mode added to these games, but man does it suck the fun out of them.
@KillerIsDead
i will still rater have donkey kong land 1-3 in the us
Cool. I'll grab 5 & 6. I snagged 7 when it debuted since I hadn't played it before.
MM Zero is a great game, but it has always irked me that it essentially penalizes you for trying to make use of one of the game's major features, namely the cyber-elves.
Mega Man Zero is excellent. Anyone complaining about difficulty should just use save states. I can't wait for 2 and 3 to be added.
On the other hand, Game Boy MMIV is on sale. Everyone should rush out and get it.
I have the DS collection, but dogged if I'm not excited to play these on the big screen!
Also, since cyber elf upgrades in this game require a ridiculous amount of grinding to get, I'd recommend forgoing most of them for a more brutal challenge!
@Philip_J_Reed I agree. This series is probably the best in terms of overall quality due in no small part to it only having four games. Too many sequels tend to ruin things. These games are downright amazing, and I love using Zero's saber! My only real complaint is his redesigned appearance, but it's still a pretty good design on its own.
@Hero-of-WiiU Honestly, you can't go wrong, but the best ones in my opinion are:
NES: 2, 3, and 4
GB: III, IV, and V (definitely V)
SNES: X1, X2, X3 (some might argue on this one, but I love X3), and I haven't played 7 much, but it's okay from what I've seen.
GBA: All the Zero games (intense challenge but so so good. You can get the DS collection pretty cheap on Amazon when last I checked.)
Mega Man 9 and 10 are on Wii, PS3, and I think Xbox 360. They're great. 9 has just about the best chiptune soundtrack you'll ever hear. These two are quite hard as well, but that's what makes them fun!
Hope this helped!
This is itching me, Zero is not a spin off, is what comes after the X series, and before ZX and Legends, which are all part of the same universe. The spin offs are the Battle Network series and Starforce.
@Kmno That's a great point. I guess people might feel that way since it was on a handheld as opposed to a console?
I want this in Europe.
Could we please have some sign of the region this stuff like discounts is actually happening in, either in the title or the tag line? Im tired of hearing about this stuff then clicking just to realise half way down the article its only for one region. Even more peculiar since this is a UK based site, and this stuff mostly happens for NA.
I might just get the Mega Man Zero Collection. I get all the 4 DS games on the DS and can play 'em on the 3DS. Although an eShop discount is tempting.
Should I get mega man 5 & 6 or mega man 7. I only have $5 to spend on the e shop and I can't decide!
