Re: Soapbox: I'm Causing The Slow Death Of Gaming Magazines, And It Hurts

Gonna feel old when I post this...bit I got into gaming mags back in the day for my Amstrad (Amstrad Action was a great read!) and later Amiga (Amiga Power). Believe it or not it, yes you had to buy them but free cover cassettes/discs each month? Yeah! I never had the money to get into cutting-edge consoles until the PlayStation 1 era but loved the Official Nintendo Magazine. Sadly that fell through though I still have my treasured final 2 copies with the top 100 first and third party Nintendo games ever. Still flick through them on occasion, great writing and heart.

Because heart is what it was about. You picked a magazine up for the cover. You stayed with a magazine for the community feel it created. Nintendo Life is a great site in theatre respect - it replaced ONM for me - but I'll always remember being a kid and waiting for the next gaming mag in the post. Then, I read for information and entertainment. Now, Retro Gamer mag is a slow-burn pleasure to trawl through; in a world of fast-paced news, take some time to chill and reflect with top-class journalism.

And mags today aren't expensive if you subscribe. £26 for 6 Retro Gamer issues with a free 8bitdo N30 Pro Bluetooth gamepad? Yes please!
