Chuck me onto a desert island, it's the console I would take. A marvel in its own right, and able to play DS games as a very welcome bonus? Thousands of hours spent in it, and the stack of shame still awaits...I will play all those awesome JRPGs on day!
I love that they took the time to present this in such a (dare I say) scholarly way! And with great changes. I have big hopes for the second iteration. Ha, might keep the demo just to go back and compare it...
Looks interesting, but I only finished Infinite Space fairly recently on the DS, and still pine for all the crazy characters, costumes and crafts which will not be found in most other games. Might buy if it's in a sale though.
@NESlover85 +1, and very excellent for wrapping and decorating gifts it is too. Plus washi tape can be used more than once. Totally not masking tape, and I would totally use FE tape it were over here!
Great article and welcome to the site Chris. I really enjoyed ONM and the editorial style, and still sometimes flick through the final two mags with the great 'top 100 first and third party' list. Quality video game journalism for ever 😀
Gonna feel old when I post this...bit I got into gaming mags back in the day for my Amstrad (Amstrad Action was a great read!) and later Amiga (Amiga Power). Believe it or not it, yes you had to buy them but free cover cassettes/discs each month? Yeah! I never had the money to get into cutting-edge consoles until the PlayStation 1 era but loved the Official Nintendo Magazine. Sadly that fell through though I still have my treasured final 2 copies with the top 100 first and third party Nintendo games ever. Still flick through them on occasion, great writing and heart.
Because heart is what it was about. You picked a magazine up for the cover. You stayed with a magazine for the community feel it created. Nintendo Life is a great site in theatre respect - it replaced ONM for me - but I'll always remember being a kid and waiting for the next gaming mag in the post. Then, I read for information and entertainment. Now, Retro Gamer mag is a slow-burn pleasure to trawl through; in a world of fast-paced news, take some time to chill and reflect with top-class journalism.
And mags today aren't expensive if you subscribe. £26 for 6 Retro Gamer issues with a free 8bitdo N30 Pro Bluetooth gamepad? Yes please!
At first, with JRPGs mentioned, you had curiosity. Then I remembered who Ghostlight were and they totally have my attention! SMT series always welcome, but Trails... totally up there with the best JRPG s of all time, and if they can bring that tasty Falcom goodness to the west...yes please!
Great thing to read when I wake up. Please please please please please! And wait for Revo 😎.
Also: no issue at all with the trilogy being finished on 3DS. Make the best decision based on the market/user base, sure, but it's a immediate first-second limited-edition pre-order either way from me. Such a great series.
Shucks, chose Ophilia to start - have played a lot of JRPGs and now hope it's not going to be too easy.
(Nah, not worried - shame I have to keep her in all game but figure she'll make a great mixed mage. Also: H'aanit seems very OP compared to most so not sure she is a tough choice. Shall not be disheartened at taking the 'easier route'!)
