@Falchion Needs stronger third party support. Not sure how long Ubisoft can support it. Honestly, I think if the console was the best place to get RPGs and (new ones, not rereleases) and more HD remakes of N64-Gamecube era titles the install base in Japan might see an increase. Right now though it looks like they're trying to win back the casual market first.
Many of us, including myself are using the Construct 2 game engine to create our games. Not sure if he's still using it for this game, but all bets are that he is. I'm ecstatic that someone has made it to the big leagues, I hope he does well.
Perhaps a new advertising campaign is in order. Show off what the console can do, and really emphasize backwards compatibility so original Wii owners can play their old games on the new console. As for the hard drive, make sure the consumer knows they can always use their own bigger HD than the one that's given. At this point at least a $50 price cut would be a good idea just to increase it's install base.
Nintendo can't do it alone though, they need to make the console appeal to third party developers. AAA devs here in the west have pretty much written them off, most of Japan too. Since they're Japan based, start with them first. Convince Square Enix, Konami, and Capcom to port their current titles over. Get some RPGs going on that console, since RPGs are still pretty huge over there, hell, dating sims if you are desperate lol. Oh, and probably make the console region free if you haven't done so.
Western devs have more of a monkey see - monkey do business mentality. Once they see the system start the flourish like the 3DS they will follow... some of them. At least you'll get EA back for what it's worth.
Encourage homebrew games. Seriously, there could be potential with this. If someone made a non-crashing mod for a Metroid game, let them. Some of these guys probably wouldn't mind working for free as long as they get credit using your IPs.
I miss the old Nintendo, but I've made my peace with what they've become now and still want to see them succeed. Hell, even if it's recreating the old market the original Wii did. Give them a reason to purchase a Wii U this time around.
At this point, if Nintendo really wants the same third party support as the other two consoles, I'm sorry but they may have to revamp the innards of the Wii U and release a "DX Edition". This of course risks getting every Wii U owner very upset unless they have some sort of compromise like a discounted upgrade recall rather than making them pay full price for a new version of something they just purchased. Hell, an add-on they can hook up would be welcome at this point.
At least 2-4GB more DDR3 RAM, a stronger GPU that gets a bit close to 800MHz (at minimum), and at least 250 GB hard drive for DLC (the consumer can always get a bigger one). Games can be multi-disc to make up for any minor short comings. Maintain the $350.00 price, you can still sell the 32GB model with a significant price cut until the consumer is ready to upgrade. It'll still be "underpowered" compared to the other systems, but not by much, as it's good enough the next gen. Large scale games like Final Fantasy XV, Phantom Pain, and Kingdom Hearts III can be multi-disc if need be.
It's a crapshoot, but this is the best idea I can think of.
It blew my mind seeing Mega Man debut, along with Kid Icarus all we need now is Simon Belmont to complete the Captain N co-star roster.
Villager might be one of those characters who's, when mastered, can be the powerful fighter in the game. Wii Fit trainers ultimate smash made me laugh because of how awesome it looked, I like that randomness of it.
I liked the first three games. Not really a big fan of the N64 version, and never got to play the Wii one. I'll be watching this title with anticipation.
It's great that Nintendo is still trying to convince gamers to try their systems, but they are going to need more than first and second party support. Not trying to sound like a bitter old man who's still blinded by nostalgia every now and again, but they need to recapture the Action/adventure and RPG/Sandbox market again if they really want to compete. Not arguing first party support, hell they've survived this long on that alone. Second party seems to hold up well too.
They're doing the right thing by keeping it BC with the Wii library, there were some really good titles that deserve a second look if you've missed it.
Other devs can use the Wii U's lack of third party support to revive some old and forgotten franchises so they would stand out. Secret of Mana could use a new game, make it into something of a Tales franchise since that series seems to be shifting to PS now.
At least you're getting Arkham Origins, Blacklist, and Watchdogs, three games I'd never expect to see on a Nintendo console, so again another step in the right direction, even if its a slow pace.
Why I'm bringing this up, is that after the big guns are well after their release... I hate to see Nintendo go through another drought of games again. Been like this with the N64 and the Wii. Gamecube wasn't too bad, but some folks don't want to spend a combined $700-1k on owning new consoles, especially older folks with real responsibilities now.
I've never played the MH games, but I have a question... does this have character creation on it (Like Fallout or Saints Row?) Because I've noticed in many screens your character looks different.
Holy crap... I remember MCoG. That used to be on right before the dubbed Dragon Warrior anime. I think I was around 7. MCoG had an annoying themesong, but wow.
First party titles are always a given. I think if Nintendo wants to surprise us with a left hook of awesome, they'd announce third party titles that we'd never expect:
New Mega Man
New Capcom vs ???
a SotNish Castlevania,
a port of Saints Row 4
port of GTA 5
A new Final Fantasy title
A sudden influx of ported games from current gen (sort of like launch)
or the real surprise, exclusive Fallout sequel utilizing the touch pad as a Pip Boy.
I think my optimism has officially reached levels of delusion. Need my reality medicine, brb.
It's obvious that as long as the first party support is good, N is safe... BUT, the reality is that people like some of the third party titles beyond CoD and Madden and get other consoles (or PC) to play them.
Nintendo needs support from Capcom, Konami, and Square again. They were part of the age where Nintendo had it all... I wish they would realize there is still an audience for Mega Man, Castlevania, and Final Fantasy — remake, port, or new. We've seen these companies try too hard to capture the "Western" audience but they were already good at what they do.
GBA - DS seemed to of been a haven for Castlevania which is true, but the Wii seems to of been left out. A Metal Gear game would be a nice treat, as I'm sure Sony still has some contract agreement to keep the main franchise Sony only.
Come to think of it, I think Sony still has a grip on the Final Fantasy franchise since 7... I mean at least you guys get Dragon Quest and the odd remake or the classic titles.
Capcom... well, I don't know that to say.
Fallout and Saints Row would be nice to see on the Wii U, it's a shame the titles rely on strong GPU and they're too stubborn to even do a port.
I'm still going to play it, I suppose it's unrealistic to expect the same VAs to play the same characters forever.
I'm curious how Troy will play the Joker, I recall his work as Snow and one of the male protagonists in Saints 3 and they sounded pretty identical. I wouldn't mind a Jim Carreyesque take on the clown prince if pulled off. I just hope they don't cop out and try to imitate Heath Ledger's Joker persona.
Well, at least a new Smash is a given. We probably won't see it released until after next year.
I'm still concerned with the third party situation, but Nintendo acquiring Sonic for some games is pretty damn... well, surprising. Once was Mario's rival via marketing now are best of friends. Perhaps the time is right for a Mario + Sonic crossover adventure game?
Oh, back to Smash... I call Pac Man as a new char.
I may not own a Nintendo console, so I consider myself at least a supporter in faith... but at least ONE killer app. Heck, a new Smash Bros would blow my mind right about now. That seems to be the only game to ever get me to buy a Nintendo console.
I just have this feeling it's going to be a letdown.
Might be the old DBZ fan in me but all I can see is Majin Buu with that huge tail on his head. I actually think it's a cool design, coming from a guy who's never played Pokemon I wished they just name it something else.
I'm going to miss Saints and Darksiders if they close, Saints Row especially because they don't have to take themselves seriously like GTA4 did. I understand people have preferences but it saddens me that people actually like doing things in GTA that they could easily do in the real world.
Maybe the best bet for WiiU is to support companies like PS3 did with Sucker Punch. Or at least support promising indie devs, at least WayForward is managing to survive with their awesome team which I'd like to see more of.
This guy is the man, I dare say I owe my sanity to his creations. In a time where my youth was filled with misery, there was always his world I could just escape to for a few hours a day, among other worlds.
Happy 60 Shiggy! Thank you for your continued vision and worlds of fun.
I'm liking these big name titles that's usually on 360/PS3 making appearances on the WiiU. It's showing that the new console is capable of handing the games, and hopefully expanding third party support in the future.
I've played a couple AC games but never got into them, but that might change soon.

Re: If You Do Pick Up a PS4 or Xbox One, These Skins Will Make Them More Comforting
It's going to be roughly two years before either console will have a decent library. Learned my lesson from 360 and the PS3.
Of course if the new fallout game is coming to next gen I'll have no choice but to submit... or get a better PC.
Re: Super Ubie Land Set To Emerge This August On Wii U
The creator is a big player in the Construct 2 community, he started out here and you can play his early demo:

Liking the mobius strip idea, this game may be a great tide-me-over until a good FZero comes out. Or Captain Falcon is a secret character, haha.
Re: Super Mario 3D World is "The Grand Culmination" of The Best Ideas From Past 3D Mario Titles
Why does it have to be like Galaxy? I think many of you got your hopes up way too high. I see this as a throwback to Mario 64, moreso the DS remake.
It's not a bad thing, really.

Seriously, that's some pretty hectic gameplay, I don't care if they call it a Galaxy clone, it's definitely got that Sonic Xtreme feel to it.
