@Pixel-Perfect Common "too many Mario games" fallacy there--almost all of those games have completely different gameplay from each other, despite having Mario in the title or game.
@Doma "Constantly"? lmao. They've released one Mario title with one on the way, and a DLC. A yearly Mario release is not the norm for Nintendo; they'd have spaced Mario 3D World out from NSMBU if they didn't badly need to sell consoles right now... unlike EA and their sports games or Activision and COD.
As for the "games variety" comment, please remove your blinders and see my reply to Zombie_Barioth. I have no interest in Mario platformers or even Mario Kart really, yet magically, I've found quite a bit to be excited about on the Wii U. No variety my donkey.
@Zombie_Barioth "What about people who gasp don't like Mario?" You mean people like me? Well, let's see my Christmas/Birthday list: Pikmin 3, DKC:TF, Game & Wario, Rayman Legends, Watch Dogs, The Wonderful 101. Other games coming out for it by the end of the year: Splinter Cell, Assassin's Creed, Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut, Sonic: Lost World, Wind Waker HD. Great games coming out for it in 2014: Super Smash Bros., Mario Kart, Bayonetta 2, X and possibly Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem. Great games already out for it: Just Dance 4, Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, ZombiU, Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Lego City Undercover, Need for Speed Most Wanted U, Resident Evil: Revelations. But wait, there's more! TONS of indie games on the horizon for the eShop.
I don't like Mario, but I'm not complaining.
Mario is not "all" the Wii U has, not by a long shot. Not in the past, present, or future. People like you have tunnel vision and get your panties twisted the nanosecond Mario shows his Italian mug because you're butthurt Nintendo isn't showing a little love to your favorite franchises. I get it, I'd love to see a new Star Fox, but I'm capable of accepting that Nintendo simply has bigger fish to fry this year. They JUST went on public record stating that they're restructuring so that their studios can take on more projects at once. To say that the system is "just Mario" and to imply Nintendo still isn't doing enough is ridiculous.
Mario Kart is really played out though, not sure I'll get that one.
Get real, people. If you want the Wii U to do well enough to keep having games made for it, then Mario is exactly what the doctor ordered to get those sales up. Metroid, Star Fox and F-Zero don't sell consoles like Mario, Mario Kart and Smash Bros. do.
That said, I don't know much about the NSMB franchise, but as a potential consumer, I see no obvious differences between the U version and older versions except HD and off-TV play. Yes, Luigi U is harder than NSMBU, but is it actually fundamentally "new"? Like I said, I think they really need to get Mario out soon to push console sales, but I'm just saying the "well, we believe they're new IPs" comment is rather silly...
I love that! Poor Jimmy, he got stuck with the "expert" level character, in Nintendo's words. I agree, this is great coverage for the Wii U, especially 'cuz Mario.
Will definitely give this a try when it comes out. I can't see myself being willing to pay for anything in this game, so it will depend on how "free" it actually is. As others have said, there are varying approaches to F2P. Looking forward to seeing how Nintendo attempts it.
@MonsieurRosbif @Ralizah As for me, I'm more than willing to pay extra and wait it out to reward Capcom for doing the right thing with Ace Attorney 5. After all, I don't have to worry about the eShop edition going anywhere while I wait. And I'm especially willing if that means I can get the Feenie statue along with it (but that's probably wishful thinking...). So, I tweeted Svensson, might post on the forums as well.
@theblackdragon My gut reaction to the desire for a crowd-funded retail release for AA5 is agreement... until I remember that sites like kickstarter were intended for indie and small developers who actually can't afford to make something on their own. Capcom can afford it, they just don't feel like it.
Also, I've said this elsewhere and I'll say it again: there's no reason they couldn't have given this a limited print run AND digital release, like Fire Emblem: Awakening (to which many people have compared the Ace Attorney series). That would have satisfied collectors and "hardcore" fans as well as people who want to be able to find the game after the limited print run sells out. Small companies like XSEED can afford to give their "niche" games physical releases and even include collectible goodies with them, yet the publishing giant Capcom wants us to believe they can't afford to even give their beloved series a limited print run? They're just making up excuses to give this series a half-assed treatment and to circumvent second-hand sales. This is NOT about accessibility, or they would have done it the way described above.
@AbeVigoda ROB's don't go for anything near $300 on eBay, unless you're talking about the entire NES Deluxe set, which does go for around that... but from what I've read it seemed like he only wanted to save ROB.
Aside from being a part of video game history, he's my main in Brawl. Love him ^_^
@Chrono_Cross #65 Who said I was "all offended"? The article had misinformation, I was correcting it. "Expressing concerns" implies some degree of constructive criticism. Making blanket statements like "Japanese games are all terrible" tells no one anything about what is supposedly, actually wrong with them.
@Epicnessofme99 I think I read somewhere that the game is going to be the equivalent of $20 USD. Still pretty reasonable imo when you consider the one for 3DS started at $35-40, and didn't support NFC.
Edit: Oh, this very post says that. But I read it somewhere else too, lol
OMG, this is unbearably cute, and I wanted to start a collection of Pokemon figures anyway. I freaking want the Bulbasaur and Torchic <3 I'm probably definitely thinking of getting this...
This game seems interesting. How much is it? I can't go on my 3DS at the moment to check and I can't find it in NL's database of eShop games. Edit: Oh... it says on the side panel. Didn't realize this was UK/EU only for now.
AGAIN, no option for a Wii U copy as a reward for backing, even though the Wii U release isn't even a stretch goal for this one. So once again, not backing. :
Unfortunately I don't want to back this unless it is guaranteed to come to the Wii U, but others probably feel the same way and will hold off on funding until then, which could then cause the game to not get the funding needed to make it to the Wii U. : This is the one thing that's bothering me about Kickstarter lately.
@BestBuck123 Well, I got mine for Christmas and didn't spend a dime on it and I'm sure many others are in the same boat, so the "you just don't want to feel burned by a price drop" argument doesn't really fly there. Certainly, the price in the UK seems high from an American perspective, but I just chalked that up to the UK's higher wages and higher cost of living. But I understand I could be completely wrong about that take on it.
I already own 2 of them and plan to buy AA3 soon. Don't need a collection, myself. But the prices of the individual games are quite high for how old they are, so a collection does make sense.
Yeah, he's saying they always want hardware lower priced so more people can afford their games. The Wii U doesn't NEED a price drop now as others have said, it just needs games.
I fail to see how waking up as your great-great grandfather would be any less "weird" than waking up as your great-great grandmother.
Also not liking the comments saying "female assassins are REALLY effective! They can seduce people!"... or they can use the same tactics male assassins use? Why perpetuate the notion that if women excel at anything, it has to be by using sex?
Also, people wonder why new IPs are barely made anymore. It's because all people do now is demand sequels to old games. Not every great game ever made needs a sequel!
I haven't bought an EA game in years--not a conscious decision, they just never publish anything I'm interested in anymore... just shooters and sports games. Pass.
@TrueWiiMaster Chasing Aurora was just overpriced, seeing as there are only 2 game modes, and the gameplay never evolves into anything more complex or engaging. Little Inferno arguably was fairly priced because it at least offered clever writing and themes and a dark atmosphere. Haven't played Runner2.
A for HarmoKnight... it looks WAY too simple for the price they're asking (based on videos I've seen).
That's good for them to keep working on the game as long as they have all that extra time.
Also, all you people saying you're going to deliberately buy it used to "make a statement"--YOU ARE NOT HELPING. The suits at Ubisoft will just be validated in their belief that the Wii U version wouldn't sell enough on its own to warrant the exclusivity in the first place.
"...with Ubisoft stating more news will be with us shortly." Where does Yves suggest that BGE2 news will be here "shortly"? All he said in that quote is the game is still a WIP, and they will talk about it when they have something new to show.
The game absolutely needs to be on the Wii U if it has those same photography mechanics, though. It would just be divine. And given Ubisoft's apparent good faith in the Wii U (despite the Rayman thing), I think there's a great possibility of that.
@ecco6t9 lol owch, low blow. That whole mess with Aliens wasn't Sega's fault, for the most part. The horribleness of Aliens had nothing to do with Sega's "creativity" factor (or lack thereof). After all, they didn't make the game. It's almost entirely on Gearbox.
Yeah, no one knows better about Nintendo's future as a console manufacturer than a third-party developer who has never (to my knowledge) worked with the company in question.
@Lopezdm What "education" are you basing this guess on, then? I'm "educated" in the fact that people predicted Nintendo would fail with the Gamecube... and the Wii... and the DS... and the 3DS. And I'm also educated of the fact that the first three months of a console's life mean jack about its future. Obviously people aren't going to appreciate wild speculation of Nintendo's supposed, impending doom under the guise of logical thought, on a Nintendo-focused site.

New Leaf and Super Metroid on the Wii U.
