Re: Soapbox: Paper Mario: Sticker Star Was When The Series Came Unstuck

"As a result, just the concept of "Paper Mario, with stickers" is enough to get die-hard Paper Mario fans frothing at the mouth." That isn’t exactly true, to be honest (though the article is still excellent). I do not speak for all fans by far, but for me the appeal in Paper Mario was never the "paper" part of Paper Mario (the first game was, after all, really Mario Story not Paper Mario). Rather, the world was a colorful addition to the great gameplay. No colorful paper aesthetic is ever a proper substitute for the classic simple yet strategic gameplay. I do love the papercraft world, but a great world is nothing without great gameplay, as Sticker Star (and to a slightly lesser extent its successors) shows. Video games need both the game and the video, both the mechanical and the graphical.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Mind If Nintendo Retired The 'Big' Nintendo Direct Format?

Overreacting much? Nintendo does not have an E3 Direct when E3 is cancelled, and some start to question whether their day is done? We were doing the same in the Direct Droughts of yesteryear, including back in 2020 when we went over a year without a full Direct, and yet they still returned. Direct's are not done by a long shot, though I think we won't have one until September.
