@ 9. Boringman54 Come now, are there really any RPGs better than Final Fantasy? Okay, there probably are, and you don't sound like you hold the series in high regard. But whether you like FF or not, you gotta admit, FF is one of the greats out there, so this game only being "slightly worse" would be impressive.
However, I'd like to make a prediction. Score of 3/10. Nobody was able to create a good N64 RPG, except for Intelligent Systems. And if this is going to have N64 cartridge-like memory constraints, I do not have high hopes. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see it localized. WiiWare could use a real RPG on the service. But there's a reason more RPGs wound up on the PlayStation.
Huh, I was expecting the score to be a 7 from reading the review.

@ 57. Stuffgamer1 I wasn't asking Nintendo. Of course they're gonna be okay with us having to spend more money on them.
And personally, I think Nintendo's trying way too hard to be idiot-proof. In effect, they're also being smart-proof. To me, Nintendo's choice in tactics is like if McDonald's had to force people to sign a waiver any time somebody asked for hot coffee. Really, do you guys (again, not Nintendo) honestly believe this is the best possible solution?
Contratulations, Nintendo. You've just earned a dumb award. Now, if you give me a legitimate reason why it would be impossible to share points, I might take it back. But until then, I'll just assume you're either lazy or just money-grubbing.
And if you say there's nothing wrong with this plan, consider this possibility: I have 500 points on my Wii. There's a DSi game that costs 500 points. But in order to get it, I have to buy 1000 DSi points just to buy the 500-point game when I should've been able to just use the 500 points I already had on my Wii! Does that honestly sound good to you??? Just think of all the things I could've spent that $10 on instead!
I didn't like Rainbow Islands that much. But Bubble Bobble, that was a real gem. I am a bit worried, though. I keep hearing how virtually none of the ports emulate the feel of the original arcade game very well. Supposedly the NES game came the closest, and I still own it, so unless I hear that this new one is utterly fantastic, I'll very possibly give it a pass.
And I hadn't noticed how the reviews here are like that before. And I was about to go furthur by looking at how many reviews got what review and possibly noticing that one rating (maybe 4/10 or something) has not appeared yet. But then I saw that the reviews weren't arranged like at VC-Reviews and I'd have to go into every review to find the rating, so I'll just say that, yeah, there are a lot of 7s.
So, anybody else wish that Babel Fish would translate Japanese Romaji text? Sure, the translations would probably be 100% inaccurate, but you never know.
@52. Naturestee True, Mega Man 9 game is a new game and thus lacks the nostalgia of playing a game you haven't played in years. But just think of it as obtaining an old NES game you never tried before. Also, I didn't think the fallback to 8-bit and 16-bit graphics is due to memory constraints.
Anyway, I remember how the initial reviews for Eternity's Child went. Funny, though, I thought the general consensus among WiiWare folks was that the original PC release was buggy and it'll be working better by the time it comes to WiiWare. I know I'm still optomistic.
@Comment 19 I guess it helps that Microsoft doesn't have their old handheld system, yet. I think they could've done something with the sound effect of the N64 logo, though.
Anyway, as another person before me, I've pretty much given up worrying about Rare games on the VC. I own all the old Nintendo consoles, so I could always grab up used copies of games like Snake Rattle N Roll and Goldeneye. As for B-K and B-T, own them already on N64, and they still get played from time to time.
Okay, I am friggin' tired of all the Plättchen bashing. Okay, I get it, the game is cluttered. Give it a rest. You've all likely made it so that the developer won't attempt a better game. "ZOMG, what are you doing on the effing charts, get off there, you don't belong, people are idiots for buying you!"
Besides, it's only been two days since it released, and against the likes of Mega Man 9, at that. Maybe by next week, it'll have had enough time to enter the charts. I know I'm gonna get it, simply to show my support to the developer. Don't give up on making games. Use this experience to make something better.
Some of these articles on WWW have more drama than a furry site...
Okay, seriously. Reader reviews. Or at the very least, reader ratings. Isn't an argument like this a pretty good indication that such a thing would be helpful? We've got people who diss the review saying that they liked the game, we got people who tried the game and agree with the review, and we got those who will never play the game because of the review. And there are those looking for more opinion than just the review, and want to find out what everyone else thinks, but in order to do that, have to get through this mess of posts to find another person's for-real opinion.
I'm not saying I don't trust the WWW reviews, 'cause I do. The description of the gameplay is very confusing and I don't think I'll be getting it 'cause it sounds so confusing. But with all this arguing going on about the quality of the game, it sure would be nice to have a score representing what the general consumer thinks.
And besides, if the sister-site VC-Reviews can have user ratings, why can't this site?
Apologies for the accidental pun, but I do hope this game has a sandbox mode in it. I'd rather not have to deal with rats trying to destroy my castle while I'm trying to make the grandest sand palace the world has ever seen.
Yup, then it's definately a case of "we wanted to release a retail-size game on WiiWare but there were memory restrictions so we split into parts to fix it". So how long does it take to play through the starter pack?
So long as the courses get more interesting than the two I saw in the screenshot. Also a tad disappointed that those characters aren't Miis. But hey, as long as the game's fun.
This is perhaps one of the more original puzzle games I've ever heard of. At first I was setting myself up for disappointment when I read how the interactivity between the rectangles was done with multiple players, 'cause I never really have anybody to play with, but hearing that you can achieve the same thing with replays... Well, it certainly won't be as fun or as real-time as with other players, but it's good to know I wouldn't be left out entirely. I'll definately consider this if it comes out in the US.
And to the guy who said the game looked boring in video, honestly, I've never seen a puzzle game that looked interesting in video.
I actually haven't played a point-and-click game since the original Myst, and I got incredibly lost in it. Maybe it's due in part to the laugh-out-loud humor of H*R, but I enjoyed this. Here's what I thought of the game.
Took me about three and a half hours. Not bad for $10. I'm sure another playthrough would go a lot quicker now that I know what to do, but at the same time, I didn't 100% the game. Those moments where I wasn't quite sure what to do weren't very fun (as expected from a game like this), but when things started coming together, I couldn't help but smile at what I knew was about to happen. Definately enough laughable moments (found myself rofling at the photo booth for some reason). The game had a few "goofs" typical of the H*R cartoons, which I guess means the game had a few glitchy spots, but none of them really detracted from the game. Music, a lot of it came straight from the series, which I think is good. Some of the voices sounded a tad different, but if the Quote feature at homestarrunner.com is any indication, that's merely due to the sound being better quality than what's available in Flash. And you still gotta give them credit: you can't really tell that almost all the voices are performed by the same guy. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience, and I don't really play point-and-click games. Looking forward to the next epi-snowed.
"never figuring out how to get to the snake boxing etc."
Head down the stairs from the game start and just head to the room all the way to the left. The game console is sitting right out in the open in Strong Bad's room.
So, we're basically only paying for a demo initially?
Maybe it's not that bad, but this information at face value indicates that that is indeed the case. Okay, yeah, if you get every piece of the game, it'll still cost less than retail games. But it would also cost more than most WiiWare games, and you'll be concious of the fact that you're paying for the game piece by piece.
And maybe paying for a demo works for some of you, but for me, it's robbery.
Being guided by The Brother Chaps themselves, I'm sure this'll be an entertaining story no matter what, especially since they've been focusing some on this, leaving their site updated less than usual. Whether the point-and-clickness and gameplay will make it worth the $10, I dunno. I'll go ahead and wait for the review, but I'll probably get it for sure.
71. Mike "You guys who say that you are going to buy Toki Tori now just because it's low on this list are idiots. You should have bought the game when it came out, then it wouldn't be as low as it is."
Gee, what a nice way to put it. Okay, guy, listen up. Games like Toki Tori aren't my usual cup of tea. Sure, it interested me, but I was able to find games I preferred more. Now that it's low, I feel sorry for it, 'cause even though I wasn't normally interested enough, I don't think it deserves to drop off the charts like this.
I'm willing to get Toki Tori if it helps raise it a little.
As for Pong Toss, I'm disappointed. It's not that I think the game sucks. But it's basically just a single mini-game that got censored, sold at a price point more suitable for at least three mini-games. In fact, I'm still iffed about the censorship the game recieved. Had the game remained the uncensored Beer Pong and still managed 2nd plance, I would actually be saying "good for it". But this thing is, and please excuse the pun, just watered down.
I'm not too worried about price. It did stun me a bit, but it could've been worse. And I'm sure that, somewhere down the line, all episodes will be released on Wii disk. After all, aren't they about to do the same with Sam and Max for Wii (not WiiWare, but a whole season on disk)?
However, I am a bit skeptical about the release date. True, date announcements have been true for WiiWare, but after the fiasco with VC this week, I'm not as likely to believe it.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it Telltale themselves that delayed this game? I'm pretty sure the failed June and July releases they explained as they needed a bit more time to tweak things. And their announcement that they sent the game to Nintendo for evaluation came after the delays.
@ 56. Rapadash6 That's a good article. Too bad a lot of angry people who come to this "Nintendo Responds" article aren't going to see it. Lost in all these replies. (I'm looking at a certain response somewhere between #95-100) However, it still doesn't quite explain why Nintendo doesn't give some sort of clue about release dates, here, when they are in Japan.
Unrelated note: Mario Galaxy flopped in Japan? How is that even possible?
Even less related note: I don't like Friend Codes. Not because of their existance, but because, in many games, a lot of the good features are exclusive to Friend Mode. And what if I don't have any friends to play in that game; they either didn't get the game, or they got tired of it, or they aren't able to get on when I am. Then I'm skrewed out of playing those fun modes.
Somewhere somebody made a mistake. And I find it highly suspicious that three different publishers would think their popular games would come out at the same time, so the source is very likely to be at Nintendo. How disappointing. And I was almost certain to buy at least one of the three announced games. But these two just don't compare. I'll pass.
"Mega man is a must download for anyone who has never played it."
Maybe, but I'm tossing around the idea of skipping this and letting Mega Man 9 be my first Mega Man experience. Not sure what I'll do, but looks like I've got to make my decision, too. The fact that Ys 1&2 is coming out at the same time does not help.
Wow. That's rather worrying, but it's good to know that it may just be because of a bug that has since been fixed. Especially since I've been looking forward to this game for a while.
(Adds necessary w00t for first comment. Also notes that he has not and does not plan to look at the aforementioned reviews.)
Play them and display the proper colors. Plus there were GBC games that weren't backwards-compatible with the old B&W Game Boys, and thus not backwards-compatible with our Super Game Boy. (Examples include Dragon Warrior 3, Wario Land 3, Pokémon Crystal, and Frogger.)
I think some people are taking his video a little too seriously.
From what I got from the video, he named off Perfect Dark and Banjo-Kazooie because of liscencing issues, not because he was hopeful they would actually happen and not because he couldn't grasp the concept of there being older games, as many of you seem to assume. You should also note he mentioned he was hoping for something "really old".
On the comment about Conker on Xbox being worse than the original, I don't see that being the case. The problem isn't that it's worse, it was that it was the same game, with the only new thing being some war thing on the side.
Back on topic, there is some truth in this release pattern (though it's obviously not as concrete). Just look at the Review list, setting the order to when games were released.
Lastly, Game Boy games being played a la Super Game Boy would be awesome. Heck, there was a Super Game Boy 2 that released only in Japan, and unless I'm mistaken, it was able to handle Game Boy Color games.
What's this about "voice acting"? Like, what sort? Probably just grunts and stuff. But, just out of curiosity... (Goes to Youtube to find some videos).
....Wow. That's some technologically impressive audio. And this was released in 1989? Hmm... I've never played one of those old overhead action/RPGs before. Except maybe Crysalis, but I can't remember much about it aside from finding it rather boring. (Charge your sword, shoot. Charge your sword, shoot. Charge your sword, shoot.) This might interest me, though.
7/10 seems to be the usual for good games on WiiWare, doesn't it? Nice to see a decent game come out in Europe. Now we just need some back in the Americas.
Is it just me, or does it seem developers are able to reveal the release dates for some of their games more often as of late? I hope Nintendo's started to be more open about game releases to their developers.
Darn. My phone isn't compatible. Shame. This might've been the first cellphone game I would've downloaded (costs don't usually make other games worth it).
L$500 is nice for a main game, but I would've rather they included the entire package at once for a higher price, than make me pay extra for the extra content in pieces. When I look at DLC, I think "costs extra for extra content", much like premium memberships for extra features at various sites. But bundled as a whole, I don't see it as extra costs, I see it as one single price, even if it is higher.
To the earlier mentioning about the meaning of "pong": Nope. First time I heard that. Only two things come to mind when I hear the word "pong". The sport of ping-pong (or table tennis, as it's also known) and the original video game that's based off it.
On-topic. Yay for MLE rising in the charts. Boo for Pong Toss getting a decent start. Maybe people who tried MLE also expected this game to be surprisingly good, before any reviews were put up.
I dunno. If those are actual in-game images, I'll be somewhat surprised if it manages to land on WiiWare. Those graphics look like they'd take up a lot of memory (how many polygons can you spot?). However, the game does sound like an awesome idea.
Comment to earlier worry: does it really matter whether episodic content takes up more than one channel or not? It's not like the Wii has enough memory to fill all the channel spaces, anyway. In fact, it wouldn't surprise me if all episodes would take up the majority of the memory allowed to begin with.
Wasn't that a mini-game in one of the WarioWare games?
Anyway, I gotta at least give props to these guys for taking a concept you wouldn't expect in a video game and putting it in one (just as I do the MLE: The Game guys). But they could've chosen a less requiring-that-you're-drunk-to-enjoy-it game. Or at least, included other drunken games. I must've not payed enough attention to this, 'cause I would've expected there to be more to this than simply tossing pingpong balls into the same arrangement of plastic cups.
Even if the game doesn't come recommended, you gotta admit, that tunnel effect is pretty cool. I've never seen that effect done in an old racer like this before.
No VC games this week? I sense a marketing strategy.
Nintendo: "I don't see people giving Pong Toss much of a chance. I have an idea. Let's make it so that it's the only possible thing to download this week. Then people will buy it."
That's the only possible explanation. Nintendo has no other excuse to have a week without a VC game.
I'm one of those who is avoiding Star Soldier R because it's only 2 stages. That's the only reason I'm avoiding it. Okay, I have Defend Your Castle, and it's basically just as small-time as SSR, but it's an obvious quirky time-waster that you know you'll easily enjoy every once in a while. But SSR is based on a genre which generally has far larger games. I just don't see myself enjoying it as much.
Anyway, interesting to see how the list has been these past eight weeks until now. Basing off this list and going back to the first list you guys gave us, My Pokémon Ranch has been 1st for 6 Weeks Running (Top 3 since release), Dr Mario has been consistantly in 2nd and Defend Your Castle consistantly in 3rd only because Pokémon Ranched knocked them down a peg. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles has been shuffling about in the top 5 since you guys started this list. The rest of the list, not so consistant outside of titles slowly falling off the list.
Interesting lists. Though, I might've spread their releases out a little more. Look forward to another list the next week, instead of having them all at once and having to wait even longer for another good list or whatever. But, that's just me. And for all I know, there's other lists at the ready in upcoming weeks.
Do we really expect games with classic games built in (like Exitebike in Exitebike 64 and Wrecking Crew in Wrecking Crew '98) to have the classics ripped out? I mean, they were supposed to be pretty important bonuses, originally. Sure, the original games are readily available, now, but it'd be dumb for Nintendo to go through the effort of taking out one thing but not the effort to put in new stuff in VC games. Besides, these classics have been out for a while now. Would it really hurt that much if the updates had the classic versions left intact? If anything, being able to get the classic and update versions in one package would encourage me to get the newer game than if it was standalone.
Speaking of Exitebike 64, Nintendo, PLEASE do something about games that made use of the controller pak! In Exitebike 64, you could only store one custom track on the cartridge, whereas the controller paks allowed for as many custom tracks as you had controller paks. It'd be a real shame (and make me less likely to get it) if Exitebike didn't allow for storing multiple courses on the Wii's memory or some such device.
To those wishing for Diddy Kong Racing, the fact that it's also available on DS won't necessarily prevent it from happening on VC. Look at Super Mario 64.

Re: Strong Bad's Freezing Issue for Attractive People!
Ouch. I foresee this hurting the overall review.
Re: USA WiiWare Update: Strong Bad Episode One
"never figuring out how to get to the snake boxing etc."
Head down the stairs from the game start and just head to the room all the way to the left. The game console is sitting right out in the open in Strong Bad's room.
Re: Bionic Commando Not Approved For Virtual Console
"1UP: Is that because of the whole Nazi thing?
BJ: I can’t say why"
I see this as being one of two possible translations:
Personally, I think it's the former. (Looks at Capcom, Hudson and SNK Playmore and their sad and afraid eyes.)
Re: Space Invaders Get Even - Stage Pack Details
So, we're basically only paying for a demo initially?
Maybe it's not that bad, but this information at face value indicates that that is indeed the case. Okay, yeah, if you get every piece of the game, it'll still cost less than retail games. But it would also cost more than most WiiWare games, and you'll be concious of the fact that you're paying for the game piece by piece.
And maybe paying for a demo works for some of you, but for me, it's robbery.
Re: Luc Bernard Quits Videogame Development
I bet this game will recieve an 8/10 here. And then we'll all be laughing at those silly 1/10 reviews.
Re: USA WiiWare Update: Strong Bad Episode One
Wooooooooo! Finally!
Re: Gameshastra To Bring Tumblebugs To WiiWare
"Since first launching in 2005, Tumblebugs and the recently released sequel Tumblebugs 2, have generated 40+ million downloads."
So, wait... Magnetica Twist isn't an original concept?
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (6th August)

"You guys who say that you are going to buy Toki Tori now just because it's low on this list are idiots.
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (6th August)
I'm willing to get Toki Tori if it helps raise it a little.
As for Pong Toss, I'm disappointed. It's not that I think the game sucks. But it's basically just a single mini-game that got censored, sold at a price point more suitable for at least three mini-games. In fact, I'm still iffed about the censorship the game recieved. Had the game remained the uncensored Beer Pong and still managed 2nd plance, I would actually be saying "good for it". But this thing is, and please excuse the pun, just watered down.
Re: Strong Bad's Homestar Ruiner Gets Release Date!
Re: Publishers Remain Tight-Lipped On Black Monday Debacle
Bionic Commando wasn't allowed? Was this another prematurely announced title, or is it a different story?
Re: Nintendo Responds To US Release Date Queries
@ 56. Rapadash6
That's a good article.
Re: USA VC Update: Sonic (Master System) and Splatterhouse 2
Somewhere somebody made a mistake. And I find it highly suspicious that three different publishers would think their popular games would come out at the same time, so the source is very likely to be at Nintendo. How disappointing. And I was almost certain to buy at least one of the three announced games. But these two just don't compare. I'll pass.
Re: Mega Man Finally Out On Monday In USA
"Mega man is a must download for anyone who has never played it."
Maybe, but I'm tossing around the idea of skipping this and letting Mega Man 9 be my first Mega Man experience. Not sure what I'll do, but looks like I've got to make my decision, too. The fact that Ys 1&2 is coming out at the same time does not help.
Re: Eternity's Child Now Available for Steam
Wow. That's rather worrying, but it's good to know that it may just be because of a bug that has since been fixed. Especially since I've been looking forward to this game for a while.
(Adds necessary w00t for first comment. Also notes that he has not and does not plan to look at the aforementioned reviews.)
Re: The Mascott speaks about the Virtual Console!
Re: The Mascott speaks about the Virtual Console!
Re: Ys Book I & II Released in US Next Week
What's this about "voice acting"? Like, what sort? Probably just grunts and stuff. But, just out of curiosity... (Goes to Youtube to find some videos).
....Wow. That's some technologically impressive audio. And this was released in 1989? Hmm... I've never played one of those old overhead action/RPGs before. Except maybe Crysalis, but I can't remember much about it aside from finding it rather boring. (Charge your sword, shoot. Charge your sword, shoot. Charge your sword, shoot.) This might interest me, though.
Re: Review: Wild West Guns (WiiWare)
7/10 seems to be the usual for good games on WiiWare, doesn't it? Nice to see a decent game come out in Europe. Now we just need some back in the Americas.
Re: Samurai Shodown II Coming To North American VC In August
Is it just me, or does it seem developers are able to reveal the release dates for some of their games more often as of late? I hope Nintendo's started to be more open about game releases to their developers.
Re: Play Eternity’s Child Prequel – For Free!
Darn. My phone isn't compatible. Shame. This might've been the first cellphone game I would've downloaded (costs don't usually make other games worth it).
Re: Space Invaders Get Even To Come With Bargain Price Tag
L$500 is nice for a main game, but I would've rather they included the entire package at once for a higher price, than make me pay extra for the extra content in pieces. When I look at DLC, I think "costs extra for extra content", much like premium memberships for extra features at various sites. But bundled as a whole, I don't see it as extra costs, I see it as one single price, even if it is higher.
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (30th July)
To the earlier mentioning about the meaning of "pong":
Nope.
Re: Wallace and Gromit's Grand Adventures - WiiWare Bound?
Re: Review: Frat Party Games - Pong Toss (WiiWare)
"What's next, a nose-picking simulation?"
Re: Chase H.Q.
Even if the game doesn't come recommended, you gotta admit, that tunnel effect is pretty cool. I've never seen that effect done in an old racer like this before.
Re: USA WiiWare Update: Pong Toss
No VC games this week? I sense a marketing strategy.
Nintendo: "I don't see people giving Pong Toss much of a chance. I have an idea. Let's make it so that it's the only possible thing to download this week. Then people will buy it."
That's the only possible explanation. Nintendo has no other excuse to have a week without a VC game.
edit: Ah, okay. Now we're seeing something.
Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (23rd July)
Re: Top 10 Racing Games We Want To Come To The Virtual Console
And @Quimby
Excitebike 64 had a soccer mode, too.
