Re: Top 10 Puzzlers We Want To Come To The Virtual Console

Draygone

I really liked Tetris Attack, and though I still own it, I wouldn't mind seeing it released on the VC. But I don't see that happening, seeing how Pokémon Puzzle League, already on VC, is basically Tetris Attack but with pokémon instead of Yoshi, and I've yet to see Nintendo release duplicates of the same game on VC yet. (Unless I missed something.) Personally, I like Yoshi better.

And Wrecking Crew '98? I'm surprised to see that one on the list. I've watched videos, and I must've not watched the right videos, 'cause it didn't seem that interesting. Plus it's way different than the original, which I love and would recommend to any hardcore gamer who wants a challenging puzzler where a single mistake could spell doom. (No, seriously, I like the challenge.)

One thing I'd have in my own list is Tetrisphere on the N64. I must've played that more than any other Tetris game. One of those games I got for Christmas but didn't ask for, yet still enjoyed a whole lot. But for all I know, I'm probably in the minority. Would be nice, though. I no longer own the original, so it'd be an easy choice for me if it appeared on the VC.

Re: Mega Man 9 Will Cost 1000 Wii Points

Draygone

Sounds like a fair enough price. Sure, it's 8-bit, but it still required a fair amount of development time. Plus, it's not like they're using the NES engine itself; I assume they're emulating it, which means they are using some tool that isn't made for 8-bit graphics and sound. I mean, it'll still be cheaper than what they might've released back in the NES days, and it's probably close to what pricepoint they go for at a used game store. Better yet, this'll probably be the smallest-sized WiiWare game to date. Though I'm sure if you're really low on memory, something would still have to be deleted.

Now, downloadable content, wondering what that is. If there's a state editor, I'd be willing to pay a couple extra bucks for that. Though I still wish they'd just include all their stuff in the main package. Then it'd really be worth the $10.

Re: Review: SPOGS Racing

Draygone

Graphics aren't that important a detail for me, but hearing that the AI is unbalanced convinces me that I probably don't want it. It sounds even worse than the rubber band effect.

Re: Breath of Fire II

Draygone

Looks like somebody already noted that the video is from the GBA version. (Was easy to tell for me.) On another note, I recently downloaded this. The translation isn't as bad as I remembered. Most of the issues come with horrid punctuation. But while the grammar is awkward, it's still understandable. Least from what I played.

Re: Beer Pong Goes Alcohol Free

Draygone

Okay, seriously, if Nintendo is really that worried about content on Wiiware, they should really put the ESRB in the forefront. You know, have a big E/T/M/AO on the game's pages. And put up ESRB commercials in their services or something. Seriously, Nintendo, why do you think the ESRB exists? If you're not gonna pay attention to them, who is?

Re: Beer Pong Goes Alcohol Free

Draygone

The conflict spoken of in this article recieves the official Dumb Award.

Seriously, I wasn't ever planning on getting this game, but I'm still against Nintendo's censorship of it. Allow me to basically repeat what has already been said. It being a beer game was the entire premise of it. Get rid of the beer, and it just seems like an even poorer pack of minigames. Plus it almost seems like a discouragment of taking interesting premises and making them into a game. Now nobody's gonna be brave enough to make "trying to go to the toilet Wiiware".

But yes, at the very least, they could've changed it to Root Beer. Now, how the name change will affect sales, who knows. The "beer" idea was driving me away, admittedly, but the game doesn't seem any more interesting to me now that the drinks are gone entirely.

Re: Final Fantasy: My Life as a King Downloadable Content

Draygone

You want to buy all the download content if you want to experience the whole game. And at this point, I'd start complaining about payed download content and how the developers should just release the entire package, but unfortunately, it seems it's here to stay.

At least I can understand the reasoning for this here. Nintendo's 40MB download limit (or whatever amount it is) likely prevented this content from being in the main download. And it probably costs them money to have this extra content on the shopping channel. Not that they really need the money. And, if you're the sort of person who doesn't have to have the whole the complete package, it is better for them to have the content separate, so that you can pick and choose which parts you'd be willing to pay for.

Re: Miyamoto Gives His Thoughts On WiiWare

Draygone

"I think America has always been better at creating unique products."

Really? I look at Japanese games and there seems to be plenty of zany ones appearing there, and odd titles like Cooking Mama. Would anybody in America have decided on a game like that? Perhaps as a more realistic cooking game, in which it'd likely lose its appeal.

Re: Eternity's Child - No Plans For A North American Release

Draygone

Sometimes it's very easy to tell who has read the comments and who hasn't. looks a couple messages up

Admittedly, I'm one of those that took this as "no US release ever, sucks to be you". But as has been said, just because a US release hasn't been announced doesn't mean it won't ever get here. Gotta at least wait for it to release in the homeland, first.

And seven languages, huh? Lessee... English, French, Spanish, Italian, German... What am I forgetting? Polish, maybe. Greek? Bet it's real fun, though, considering how different some of these languages are.

Re: Sunsoft To Bring Digital Comics To WiiWare In Japan

Draygone

I'm definately for this if reading comics on TV doesn't turn out to be an eyesore and an effort. We have no comics shops left around where I live, to my knowledge.

This is likely not gonna happen, but I sure wouldn't mind seeing some retro comics popping up on the service. Comics like the Super Mario comics, or Disney comics like Scrooge...

Actually, scratch that. If Disney puts as much effort into retro comics as they do their Disney Afternoon DVD sets, I don't want them.

Re: World Of Goo Will Not Be Released On WiiWare In Europe!

Draygone

I'm not going to complain about what Europe is getting. We don't know what the extra content will be or what the final pricing is planned at. It may turn out to be worth it.

But the fact Europe is getting exclusive content at all sucks for the rest of us. At least, in my opinion. I can understand their predicament. They need the extra funding to finish the game. But if they're going to change it to a more full retail version in Europe, they should do the same in the rest of the world. Or at the very least, as someone suggested, give us all both a WiiWare version and a retail version. Sure, Nintendo might give some trouble about when the WiiWare version released, but that doesn't mean they can't release the retail version first for a while. More people would buy the retail version, while those still patient and knowledgeable about it would still get the WiiWare version.

I simply dislike it when another country gets a bunch of exclusive content, though. Maybe if the extra content comes to a country that gets their release later (gotta make up for the delay), but if the game's not out anywhere yet, you gotta plan that content for all places.

Re: ESRB To Crack Down On Early Leaks Of Games

Draygone

Yeah, this sucks. The way we're left without a clue about what's coming out when, we might as well go back to the days before the advent of the common internet, when we were forced to go to the store weekly just to find out if any new and interesting games were coming out.

No, wait... We at least had TV advertisements to clue us in.

Re: Review: Block Breaker Deluxe

Draygone

Personally the issue with the special effects potentially making you lose track of the ball worries me. If the ball moves fast enough, I'd have trouble keeping my eye on it anyway. So for me, this sounds like a potential game-breaking issue. Maybe they should've had the blocks implode instead of explode.

@ Knuckles-etc.6
Nintendo doesn't do the ratings. The ESRB does, which, legend has it, is run by concerned parents.

Re: N64 Controller Mod For Virtual Console

Draygone

I'll definately pass on this one. The N64's controller is my least-favorite official controller, due mainly to the weak analogue stick. Granted, I've never broken mine, but the wear is obvious, and more than that, it seems like I have to jam it to make good speed in various games like Paper Mario or Yoshi's Story. Playing Paper Mario using the GameCube controller was so much better, and if I ever got Yoshi's Story for VC, I'm sure it'd be the same deal.

Re: OFLC Update - Super Mario RPG On Its Way To Europe

Draygone

My furthur comments.

Some people actually think that Earthbound and Chrono Trigger are overrated. Actually, I fall into the latter. CT has a few nice gimmicks, to be sure. It just didn't interest me as much as others. Though, it could always be that I was playing the LLT Edition on PS1. (Long Load Times.) Earthbound, I've never played, so it'll be interesting to see what it's like to play a super-hyped game for the first time, if it ever comes to VC.

And, I felt the Chapter 3 boss of TTYD was the second-easiest chapter boss in the game, after Chapter 4's. But the game's end bosses are definately a challenge.

Now, the pros and cons of SMRPG
Pros: Eye candy, decent attempt at being a traditional RPG (as far as story, battles, and dungeon exploration) while still providing a Mario experience, introduction of "Timed Hits", interesting party members (especially being that two of them are original), good music, one of the best endings in a Mario game, the Axem Rangers
Cons: Easy, short (can be beaten in 10 hours, without speedrunning), you don't meet the final boss until the final battle (this is more personal preference; I like to get to know who I'm dealing with), story isn't "epic" by any means (that isn't to say it isn't interesting; it just won't have you at the edge of your seat)

Re: OFLC Update - Super Mario RPG On Its Way To Europe

Draygone

You can't really compare Mario RPG with Paper Mario. They're two very different games. Mario RPG was the first RPG I ever played. Was real difficult at first, but subsequent playthroughs and more experience with RPGs made this the easiest RPG I've ever played. I had to attempt beating the game at the lowest possible level to get any challenge recently. I still like it, though. Sure, it's probably a very overrated game, but for it's time, it was a very impressive game. Especially back when Mario being in RPGs wasn't nearly as commonplace. (Hint: this was the only one.)

Re: Blue Oasis - Fishy Fun For All The Family

Draygone

Pretty sure this isn't meant to be a fish sim.

Now, as long as the fish move realistically, I won't so much mind that this game is basically "raising fish - easy mode". Granted, that wouldn't be a guarentee that I'd get it, either. I've gotta have a reason to have this sitting on my TV when I could otherwise be playing some other game or watching something else.

Re: Luc Bernard Talks Eternity's Child, Rose Princess and Uwe Boll

Draygone

Though 100-point games sounds like a good idea, it could also prove to drive people away. A lot of people seem to follow the "you get what you pay for" saying, and that sort of price might make some wonder whether the game is crappy. Then again, I could be wrong, and there's always sites like WiiWare World to tell us whether a game is good or not.

Re: Nintendo: "Hard Drives Are For Geeks"

Draygone

@Starwolf
I dunno. Personally I liked Tetrisphere the most out of the Tetris games I've played. (Excluding Tetris Attack on the SNES, but that's not actually Tetris.)

Anyway, this guy sounds like a jerk to me. Even if it's one man's opinion, that's a pretty bold statement to make in a magazine.

Re: Dig Dug

Draygone

Funny, I thought we actually got the game on NES. I know we had it on Atari. That's the version I played, anyway. Was one of my favorite games. I kinda like how the Atari version looks better, though. Blue sky. This one has too much black.

Re: Bases Loaded

Draygone

I might get this game. Used to own it, myself, had some fun with it. But I wonder if I should wait for one of the later Bases Loaded games to make an appearance.

Re: Top 10 RPGs We Want To Come To The Virtual Console

Draygone

People, people. This is one person's personal opinion of what he thinks should go onto the Virtual Console. If you have a problem, get over it, or write your own Top 10. (Though, to be fair, there'd be less of an issue if the article was instead called "Top 10 RPGs I'd Like To See On The Virtual Console".)

Anyway, I am hopeful on a Chrono Trigger release, myself. I have the version that released on PS1 (with IMO the best version of Final Fantasy IV released to date, though we'll see what happens with the upcoming DS release), but while it has some nice, if choppy, animé cutscenes, it also has horrible load times, and I want to play the version with the original not-likely-to-make-the-ending-out-of-sync quick load times. I can just look on Youtube for the cutscenes any time.

Lufia II and Earthbound are two games I've never played though they were both highly recommended to me. I've been unable to find a cheap copy of either, so a VC release of each would be great news for me.

Re: US VC Releases - 7th April - Yoshi's Cookie

Draygone

Here's a twist. Both of these I used to own some years ago, but got rid of for one reason or another. I kinda want them back, but which should I get? Or should I at all? Yoshi's Cookie has a supposedly better SNES version, and Bases Loaded had four or five sequels. I might get both, anyway. Will only cost me $10 together, and I already know I like them.

Re: Yoshi's Cookie

Draygone

I used to have this game. Was pretty fun. I dunno if I'd want the SNES version, myself. Lacks the Mario in a chef hat. I guess it would depend on what the cutscenes mentioned are like. As far as a puzzle mode goes, the NES version's main mode at least is similar, in that you could potentially win a round in very little time if you make the right moves (as shown in the video). In any case, I might easily re-obtain it if it hit the VC here in the US.

Re: APRIL FOOLS: Virtual Boy Confirmed for Virtual Console

Draygone

Personally, I'd rather the joke would be for the Virtual Boy and not one of those anticipated games a few others say VC-Reviews should've AFd. That would have been cruel and a horrible disappointment. At least the Virtual Boy is just a "darn, but I guess it's to be expected".

Re: Virtual Boy Confirmed for Virtual Console

Draygone

Aren't Game Gear games supposedly going to be included among Master System games, though? Something about their engines being similar enough.

Anyway, I also call April Fool's, but I also wish it were true so I could get ahold of games like Wario Land. (BTW, to Clayfrd, the first Wario Land on the B&W Game Boy was subtitled as the third Mario Land game, even though it technically wasn't.)

Re: Pokemon Snap

Draygone

I can understand why people wouldn't like it. All you do is go on a rail and snap pictures of a limited amount of Pokémon, and when you're done, you're done.

But I found this game quite enjoyable back in the day. I don't know why, but it has this certain appeal. Maybe because it was one of the first Pokémon spinoffs. Maybe because we actually got to see wild Pokémon living in their natural environments. Maybe because of all the hidden secrets and poses and photos you could get.

I dunno if it's worth it if you already mastered the original. Part of the fun was bettering yourself with every picture you took. If you go in already knowing what to do, it takes the fun out of it. If you've mastered the original, it might only be worth getting for nostalgia.

A sequal would still be nice, though. And perhaps one where you could explore on foot, at that.

Re: Rare Confirms Banjo possibility for the Virtual Console

Draygone

Most exciting news all week! Though I'm a country which Sunday is the first day of the week, but still, pretty awesome. I already own Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, and Blast Corps. But I never played Goldeneye on account I wasn't interested in FPSs at the time, so I'm definately hopeful for that.

It'd also be nice if the Stop 'n Swap feature on B-K and B-T made a comeback in some fashion, but that I am not as hopeful for.

Re: Breath of Fire II

Draygone

Aww. I really want this one, but I don't know if I want it bad enough to deal with the horrible translation. Darn it Capcom, would it have been that bad to try giving an old SNES game a new translation effort?
