Re: Video: Experts Believed Nintendo Was In Trouble Back In 1990, Too

I don't think they're doomed but they have plummeted downhill. The last Nintendo console I loved was the SNES (Heck it is my favourite system of all time). GameCube had some great games too though. But N64 and Wii were meh IMO. Wii U is looking grimmer with each and every day. I have no reason to turn it on.

I don't mean any disrespect to the big N but I don't think they're anywhere near as good as their 8 and 16 bit self.

@SMT4Protag
SMT4 - Nope not in my region.
Etrian Odyessy just got released a few days ago so haven't gotten around to picking it up. Too busy with Hatsune Miku Product Diva F
Monster Hunter - Got it on my Wii U
Mario 3D - Great game, finished it 100% when I got it. But it's just amazing, it's the same thing as every other one.
Mario 7 - Didn't like it. Has nothing on the other handheld ones, Super Circuit and DS.
Luigi's Mansion 2 - Yeah pretty good
Soul Hackers - Once again not in my region
Project X Zone and KH don't interest me. I like main series KH though on PS2.
Mario and Luigi DT - Got it just haven't gotten around to playing it.

@SMT4Protag Yep. No amazing games like The World Ends With You, 3D remakes of FF3 and 4, Phoenix Wright 1-3 (I don't support digital distribution so haven't played the 3DS one), Metroid Prime, Advance Wars, Radiant Historia, Ouendan, the first time PAL regions got Chrono Trigger and other heap of A+ titles. My 3DS is a Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem machine. That's all it's good for. Most games that look like my kinda thing I can't have because they are not released in my region. And you know, region locking is such a consumer friendly thing and makes sense even more so when you put it on a handheld. As much as I love my NES, SNES and GB to DS, I want Nintendo to go software.

All I'm reading is the comments of many angry people. The man has a point. The gaming market as a whole is moving away from what it's been for the last few years very, very fast and Nintendo refuses to do anything amazing but gimmicky nonsense, now they will feel the burn. I don't want Nintendo's handhelds to go away but the 3DS is a huge step down from the mighty DS. Both for games and region locking. With that being said I'm looking forward to the day Nintendo pulls a Sega and goes software.

I love it how people think this man's opinion is invalid because of Atari. I don't think anyone here is smart nor old enough to truly understand how much good the 2600 did for the industry. Arguably without them there would be no video games in the western world. Show some respect.
Watch the insults please, your points stand just fine without them — TBD

@Senario Sadly you're correct. I know what Nintendo will do, but it's the wrong thing to do. Reggie said Nintendo will go down before selling or developing their IPs to other companies. Sega quit when they knew they couldn't recover, Nintendo is going until they're dead.

@Relias GameCube had 3rd party support. It had heaps from Capcom and a tad from Square and Konami. 64 on the other hand had... nothing.

@Krzysztof When was Nintendo for hardcore audiences? NES and SNES. The only A+ Nintendo consoles. NES advertised as some family friendly easy-going system. But bam and hit us with some of the hardest and iconic games of all time. Wii just has crap like those horse games and what not.

@feline2 Now let me bring you back to reality. I live in Australia where the Recommended Retail price (RRP) is $119 for console games, and $69 for handheld. Consoles are also very expensive, the PS3 was $999 (lucky its region free though). On top of being screwed over from pricing we get a very limited selection. Our Nintendo systems have far less third party titles than the NTSC-U/C audience. We get no Atlus titles with some very few exceptions for instance. When we get something that can be considered slightly niche it will be in our retail stores for about a month then you will never see it again.

There isn't 1 advantage for the consumer when it comes to region locking. Not, ONE.

Re: Pachter: Nintendo Has Lost Its "Mojo"

Let's be honest. Nintendo was the top dog with the NES and SNES. Sega and others couldn't compete. Nintendo had A+ first and third titles pouring out left, right and centre.

Then the N64 hit and Nintendo did everything they could to drive away 3rd party developers. Using non-standardized media formats, N64 cart, mini DVD and a Wii U disk. Wacky controllers which won't work with most games not made by Nintendo. Poor online support and sub-par system specs. Compare Nintendo to every generation Sony has been in; Sony trumped Nintendo every round for good reason. Sony used standard media formats; CD-Rs, DVDs and Bluray. A traditional control. PSN. And competitive system specs.

Nintendo is doomed and I'm glad. I've supported from the NES days and since the N64 they found more and more ways to screw up. They should do what Sega did and pull out of the hardware business and become a 3rd party dev.

Re: Satoru Iwata - "There Are Some Reasons Behind" Region Locking

This is absolute rubbish. If they want to limit the sales to certain countries due to cencorship they can, and legally by not officially publishing or giving out licences to publishers to distribute to certain countries. BUT that is the whole point of region freeing, to give people access to their games REGARDLESS of their unfortunately policies of the country in which they reside.

I'm fast getting sick of their business model and on the verge of supporting the Vita in place of Nintendo.

I hope you go out of business and become a 3rd party dev.

@KnightRider666 I'm a moron? I have the money to "waste" on the cartridge, manual, box, scratch and sniff cards and a acrylic case to protect it. I have a job and the finances to fund my hobby. I'm happy with my purchase and do not regret it the slightest. Have you ever thought that gaming is my biggest passion. That I love the 16 bit era (as I grew up in it) and JRPGs? Probably not. Don't think just because it will be a waste of your money that it's a waste of mine.

And no, I didn't make my initial comment because he didn't buy the cartridge such as myself and many others. I replied to him because he came off harshly and basically said that Nintendo owes it to him. He only deserves it if he is willing to pay for whatever it's going for. I don't decide the market value for collectables, but I choose to accept it and don't whine like a little school girl because it costs too much for me. Get a job and learn to spend money wisely and you won't need to act like a poor fool on the internet.
