Re: Zelda-Style Adventure Midora Runs Out Of Kickstarter Cash, Future Of Wii U And 3DS Versions Uncertain

The 6 golden rules of games development an idiot

Rule 1 - Draft Out A Concept Plan
This should be the first thing you do when starting a new project, by drafting a basic concept of what your game is all about you will be able to create your M.V.P (Minimum Viable Product). With this you can fine tune the feel of your game and how it will play out in the future.

Rule 2 - Build Around The Basic Gameplay
This is a bit of a no brainer to be honest, if your game has element that don't work well with the basic gameplay mechanics then you should scrap it the idea and work on something else instead. Otherwise your game's design will be criticized by the players who find that segment of game unenjoyable.

Rule 3 - Tailor Your Content To An Age Group
Again a no brainer, but this should be done as early as possible when you design, develop and test your mechanics in your game. If you don't then making it so your player understand how to play may be a more difficult task then it needs to be.

Rule 4 - Make Your Game Fun and Fair To Play
If you decide to make your game very difficult for no reason whatsoever then no one will enjoy it. by keeping the game's difficulty fair and honest while building interesting mechanics that flow with the gameplay then people of all ages will enjoy it regardless.

Rule 5 - Test and Fix All Bugs
Do I even need to explain this one? if there are a lot bugs and glitches in your game then it stops being an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. You need to accept the fact that your game may not be perfect and that there will always be problems with it years down the line.

Rule 6 - Accept Negative Feedback
It will help you find out what's wrong with your game and you will be able to fix the problems as quickly as possible. Also never go on a rant about how people don't understood your game, remember that your game will never be perfect as your not Nintendo.

@ZeroZX-Dev
They couldn't have ripped the assets straight from Minish Cap because those sprite were designed for a lower resolution screen that the GBA had and Midora has higher resolution graphics designed for HD TVs. Also as my old school teachers would say "You can't just resize an image and expect it to look good when it's being stretch beyond it original size, it will look blurry as heck".

Update Bassie The Flying Cat will be a Premium game instead after developing the concept further the Flappy Birds style game play just won't work very well so it will be a 2D platformer instead.

Also just so you know just because a game is F2P doesn't mean it's a pay 2 win type of game, I will not be known for developing P2W type of games as I am against them ok.

Re: Zelda-Style Adventure Midora Runs Out Of Kickstarter Cash, Future Of Wii U And 3DS Versions Uncertain

CreativeWelshman

That said this game should have been planned out paper to avoid the ever so common problem of "just one more idea please", also no developer is ever help with the products they release because there was so much more they wanted to add to the game that they didn't have time for and that they had to cut a lot of content out just to get the game finished.

Re: Zelda-Style Adventure Midora Runs Out Of Kickstarter Cash, Future Of Wii U And 3DS Versions Uncertain

I think the budget should have been somewhere between $750,000 to $1,500,000 for a game like this and let's remember what that money is actually spent on guys.

  • Office Rent (monthly)
  • Business Rates
  • Utility Bills
  • Internet Access
  • Staff Wages
  • Insurance
  • Hardware
  • Software
  • Liscences
  • Legal Costs
  • Marketing

These things cost money and depending on how long you plan to spend working on this project can also eat into your funds as well.

Re: Unity Support Is Coming To The New Nintendo 3DS

With this Unity news, the DeNA mobile Partnership, the new Online Membership service and the NX, I believe that Nintendo is going to announce a Nintendo Cloud type service that aims to help us keep track of our games, save data and to make us more aware of their upcoming products.

@RatKing64
Dillian's Rolling Western, Gunman Clive (1&2), Pokemon Shuffle & Rumble World, IronFall: Invasion, Steel Driver: Sub Wars, Rusty's Real Deal Baseball, Cave Story 3D and the StreetPass Games such as Quest(1&2), Puzzle, Zombie, Mansion and Gardening are all worth your time.

Re: Unity Support Is Coming To The New Nintendo 3DS

Well in my area we have Game and Games Exchange all the down in Rhyl, HMV, Argos as well as some SuperMarkets in Llandudno and Games Exchange, Argos and the street market to choose from when it comes to video games shops and that is quite pathetic in my opinions.

Re: Unity Support Is Coming To The New Nintendo 3DS

CreativeWelshman

I would really like some feedback on my game idea guys just so you don't have to look through all the comments I'll just summarise things here for your convenience.

The game will be called Bassie The Flying Cat, it will be released on the N3DS platform as a F2P game with in game micro transactions to buy additional tries and the prices are as follow

  • £1.50 for 5 Tries
  • £7.50 for 35 Tries (+5)
  • £16.50 for 85 Tries (+15)
  • £28.50 for 155 Tries (+40)
    I'm also considering a spending cap as well so people don't go bankrupting themselves.

I will also update the game to include free content at no extra cost and depending if the big N can be swayed Amiibo support will be included as well and below is a list of Amiibos I'm thinking of using.

  • Mario
  • Luigi
  • Toon Link
  • Inkling
  • Squid Boy
  • Squid Girl
  • Yarn Amiibos
  • Kirby
  • Star Fox
  • Rosalina
  • Shulk
    What will they do in the game is a secret to everybody, but rest assured that once the game is ready to be presented to the public you will know what they do.

Re: Unity Support Is Coming To The New Nintendo 3DS

CreativeWelshman

@Dezzy
I think it's to do with the hardware capabilities of the N3DS being the reason for the games coming only to that platform and not the regular 3DS.

@Zyph
I know what you mean but I suspect the Big N will put quaility first when approving the games that get sent in to be certified or perhaps a upload limit of say 5 a month per a dev to cut down on the workload and get these games out faster.

Re: Unity Support Is Coming To The New Nintendo 3DS

CreativeWelshman

@Zyph
True but what about ones that try something new and innovate in those genres? I would love for there to be competition on the E-Shop but there must be a balance in the content being submitted as well.

Also just because I'm making a Flappy Birds clone doesn't mean that I'm going to just copy and paste the formula and be done with it, no I'm going to add a few touches of my own and make my game more unique with it's innovative features to help the game craft it's own identity in the E-Shop Marketplace.

Re: Unity Support Is Coming To The New Nintendo 3DS

CreativeWelshman

I just had an interesting thought for my game "Bassie The Flying Cat", Amiibo support and I've got a few ideas already. The only problem would be convincing the big N to let me run riot with their IPs and do some crazy stuff with those figures, Inkling I've got my eye on you.

Re: Unity Support Is Coming To The New Nintendo 3DS

CreativeWelshman

I don't care how long it take you lot will be able to 1 day play "Bassie The Flying Cat", a F2P game that's fair and honest with the pricing for the in game microtransactions that net you extra tries as you attempt to beat your highscore and the game will feature free updates that fix bugs and adds new content to the game.

The microtransactions are to be set up like so

  • £1.50 for 5 Tries
  • £7.50 for 35 Tries (+5)
  • £16.50 for 85 Tries (+15)
  • £28.50 for 155 Tries (+40)
    (Please let me know if this pricing structure is fair to you and would you lot be okay with a spending cap in place to stop kids from racking up a massive credit card bill).

Re: Unity Support Is Coming To The New Nintendo 3DS

CreativeWelshman

@faint
One just as a test product to see how certain features work as well as figuring out stuff like Procedurally Generated Environments for use in my other game projects that I have.

I'm also working out the fine details of F2P to make sure it's used properly in my games without ripping people off like EA do. In short after I get these things sorted out I will then start developing a dungeon Crawler type game with a town building aspect built into it.

Re: Unity Support Is Coming To The New Nintendo 3DS

CreativeWelshman

Yeah now we can play the 8 billion Flappy Bird clone games on the N3DS, but anyway this will be brilliant for someone like me who has been working quietly on a couple of different projects for the last year.

BTW if anyone is asking what they are and how far into development they are, lets just say that the games are going to be 2D and they are in the concept stage of development.

Re: Pokémon Rumble World Available Now, as Nintendo Releases a New Launch Trailer

CreativeWelshman

Soon I'll be dowloading this as well to go with my collection of F2P games on my 3DS which include Steel Divers: Sub Wars and Pokemon Shuffle, still want Rusty's Real Deal Baseball to the EU E-Shop though but I fail to see why it would take so long to localise it the UK market?

Is the buisness modal or the sport in question? cos if it is the buisness modal then I'm not buying it as there are loads of crappy F2P games being made and released without so much as a single glance being issued by the EU.

Re: The Man Who Created Trollface Wants A Cut Of Meme Run's Earnings

CreativeWelshman

@Kaze_Memaryu
I meant that by changing the face he sell the game again and able to pay the legal fees in the process, also changing something that small will not be that hard to do as all you would have to do is just replace the existing assets with the new ones. This will not break the game and it won't take more than a week or 2 to do.

Re: The Man Who Created Trollface Wants A Cut Of Meme Run's Earnings

CreativeWelshman

Oh this will be easy to solve, just change the face to something else and update the game to avoid the copyright claims. But seriously this should be common practise for anyone hoping to release games on established platforms owned by the likes of Nintendo, he will be blacklisted by other publishers now this regardless of whether or not it goes to court.
