This August sees the annual Pikachu Tairyou Hassei Chu - or "An outbreak of Pikachus" in English - which takes place in the Japanese city of Yokohama.
Thousands of Pikachus will be in attendance, and they'll be marching around the city from August 8th to August 16th. Other activities celebrating the world's most famous Pocket Monster will also be held during this time, just in case jiggling yellow beasts don't seem like enough solid entertainment to you.
If you're a Japan resident - or you'll be visiting during that time - then you really owe it to yourself to see what a large group of dancing Pikachus looks like in real life. If you're happy to settle for second-hand evidence, then here's some footage taken from last year's event:

Just had a sudden flashback to the early episodes of the Pokemon anime, mainly the SS ANNE episode.
R.I.P the 40 dozen Rocket Grunts that died at sea.
Dear god that's truly terrifying.
I want there to be a thousand Pikachus and like, one Plusle.
For lols.
Ugh, no. I'm not leaving Japan until September, but not doing this. Japan is hot and humid in the summer, and it's even worse by the water (Yokohama is a port city). Then there will be tons of kids there all clamoring to see the Pikachus... Temperature and crowds will be worse than the creepy factor of lots of Pikachus running around.
It's times like these that I wish I lived in Japan. In other words, pretty much year round. There is always something cool going down in Japan.
Meh.. Although I love Nintendo, I have never been a fan of Pokémon or Pikachu. If it was an outbreak of Kirbys, Links, Yoshi's or Marios however, that would certainly pique my interest.
@Nintendzoey Did you just say you'd like to see a line of LINK'S? Just, NO
@drewb0203 Only if they were entirely full body costumes though (like Pikachu here). I would just like to see what this would look like. On the other hand, maybe you are right, it probably would be a bit too much.
Wow, that looks very fun to go and watch.
It begins. Packs Pokeballs
I should just move to japan already
Nightmare fuel, this. Then again, I've never bothered with Pokemon. I'm not sure if I would be freaked me out less or more if I was.
You don't put an 's' at the end of Pikachu to indicate plurality. One Pikachu. Ten Pikachu. 1 Bulbasaur. 10 Bulbasaur.
Good grief.
@chemical Thank you!!!
I just want the Staff shirt and tail
@CreativeWelshman
RIP X Dozen Rocket Grunts... That was the first episode of Pokemon that was aired. When Ash Ran into Misty and broke her bike, and they mashed it together with the SS Anne episode.
Ha ha ha ha those were good times with Pokemon. Then they ruined it with the anti-Charizard and Ashes clone rival.
@EarthboundBenjy
A thousand pikachus, and one caterpie. SUCK IT VIRIDIAN FOREST!!!
