Re: New Sonic Title, Lost World, Will be Exclusive to Wii U and 3DS

Brightstarbeing

We all know that SEGA is in big trouble financially. And although I was always much more a Nintendo fan than a SEGA fan, I know that most Nintendo fans have a special affinity for our former arch rivals. I know that I absolutely love some SEGA franchises I've been able to play over the years on friends consoles!

I've always said that if SEGA had to be sold, I'd pray that Nintendo bought them. The reason I say this is because I think that Nintendo "gets" SEGA more than any other company despite being former competitors. Imagine if Sony or Microsoft bought SEGA! I'd imagine the company would be all but destroyed and the characters and brand would quickly fade away.

Nintendo has the bucks. SEGA does not. Nintendo has talented programmers. SEGA's staff has been crippled over the years. SEGA and Nintendo are a match made in heaven.

Also, look at recent developments: SEGA and Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed had the majority of its sales on Wii U. Bayonetta 2 is exclusive to Wii U. The new Sonic is exclusive to Wii U. And let's face it: The Wii U is practically what everyone imagined a Dreamcast 2 to be. I'd say SEGA has thrown its hat in with Nintendo, if not outright been acquired. At the very least, they're turning out to be a very close 3rd party developer kind of like Rare once was.

I welcome all these developments. Now if Nintendo would just fund a new Shenmue, I'd die a happy man.

Re: Talking Point: The Importance of the Virtual Console

@klautrec Violent games don't make bad kids. Bad parents make bad kids. Full-Stop. A good parent wouldn't be getting their kid COD, etc. Just like a good parent wouldn't let their kid watch a rated R movie. If they do, then either they have to put in the extra effort to explain to the kid what they saw was not acceptable behavior, or they are a bad parent.

Re: Talking Point: The Importance of the Virtual Console

Here are the main problems for the Virtual Console:

Wii U:

  • Too Few Games. Goal should be parity with Wii and beyond.
  • Too few systems represented. Again, goal should be Wii.
  • No Set schedule of releases. Goal should be monthly and a set number.
  • Handheld games on a console. Goal should be only Console games.
  • Prices far too high. Goal should be reasonably above cost.
  • No marketing. Should be on every system box and commercial.

3DS:

  • Way too Few Games for the amount of time on market. Goal should be all major GB, GBC, GBA games, favoring GBC versions of games that are also on GB.
  • No set schedule of releases. Same goal as Wii U
  • Console games on a handheld. Goal should be handheld games with the exception of 3D classics, only because they add value.
  • Prices far too high. Same goal as Wii U.
  • No marketing. Same goal as Wii U.

Re: Wii U Virtual Console Launch Lineup Is Revealed

My first reaction was much like everyone elses. "WTF NINTENDO???". But my inner optimist says that VC releases may be frequent. If new games are released frequently in groups, this won't be so bad. But I agree with everyone who thinks this launch selection makes Nintendo look bad.

Re: Digital Game Sales Growing 33% Year-on-Year in US and EU

Brightstarbeing

The Wii U is the first console I've gone all-digital with. With a cheap 1TB external drive, I can keep all the retail games I buy right at my fingertips on the Gamepad at all times. The only down side is that pricing can sometimes be out-of-whack compared to retail. I've been using Steam on my PC for years for all my games there. I haven't gone digital with movies yet because BluRay has much higher quality and features than digital equivalents.

Re: All New DuckTales is Coming to Wii U

I couldn't believe the news when I saw it. I immediately looked for the news on other websites. "IGN? Check. NBC News? Check. Nintendo Life? Check. OMFG This is really happening!!!" I'm literally giddy. I can almost forgive Capcom for killing Resident Evil and selling on-disk DLC!

Re: Shovel Knight Confirmed For Wii U And 3DS

Brightstarbeing

I'm sure Nintendo was thrilled when Yacht Club brought the idea to them as it's an obvious love letter to the NES. As everyone has been saying, it seems the Wii U is going to be extremely indie friendly.
With mechanics from so many loved games like Mega Man, DuckTales, Castlevania, and obvious nods to Super Mario's hidden world-skipping Warp Pipes, I think it'd be very difficult to mess up this game. Just the teaser by itself practically sold me on the game. Especially the soundtrack!

Re: Reaction: The Rayman Legends Delay Is a Low Blow, But The Apocalypse Isn't Here

Brightstarbeing

I voted boycott, but not for the implied reasons. I won't be buying the game because of timing. Right now, there is a game drought on Wii U. Rayman Legends not only helps fill this, but was considered a quality game that stood out. Many people would buy it to fill the void and have something to play until better games come later in the year. Now with the delay, Rayman will be going against Juggernauts. Now, because my dollar only goes so far, I have to pick between Rayman and Wind Waker, a possible GTAV, etc. I can't see a situation where my money goes to Rayman now. Not only that, but the move Ubi made piles hesitation on top of that. So in effect, I'm boycotting the game.

Re: Crystal Dynamics Explains Why Tomb Raider Isn't Coming To Wii U

Brightstarbeing

What I find disturbing is that the Wii U Pro Controller was made for just this situation. So that older games not made specifically for the Wii U could be ported to the system and control comfortably. I fear this just shows that although developers have good intentions in not porting a game without Gamepad support to the Wii U, they are also not showing interest in porting some of the hottest games to Wii U AT ALL.
