Super Mario 3D Land is one of the most overrated games I've played in recent memory. It brings no new ideas to the table (aside from the occasional 3D effect). Its levels are empty and forgettable. All it seems to do is point to itself and yell "Hey guys, look at this! You remember these from other games right? Oh the nostalgia! Now, look at this!"
It got exhausting after a while. Is it a bad game? No, I guess it isn't. The platforming's solid, and everything's nice and colorful, I suppose. However, it is an uninspired, stagnating bore to play. I'm not sold on why people seem to love it so much.
Without a doubt, Nintendo needs to make some changes if they don't want to lose all of their third-party support again. Unfortunately, those changes don't seem to be happening. Now, I like Mario and Zelda as much as the next guy, but even those franchises are starting to stagnate for me. I've drained more hours than I can count on Dead or Alive Dimensions, and I predict a similar situation for Revelations, as I'm playing it. And Mario? Eh, I'm slogging through it, but as I play, I always think to myself that I could be playing Resident Evil instead. That's not to say that Mario is bad, by any means. It's just that RE is something unique, and thus more interesting for me to play.
Third-Party titles offer something different to the consoles. They add variety, which is never a bad thing. Nintendo hasn't exactly been a company that's known for that, however. Currently, I've been going through 3DS droughts, not touching my system for MONTHS, and then playing it for hours on end when something genuinely new comes out. I'd rather have a more balanced cycle than this...
So yeah, Nintendo needs to step it up with supporting third-parties. Yeah, we like Mario, guys, but that's not the ONLY thing we like. Support some new ideas, and see what comes out of it!
Wow. A lot of bitterness going on here...Is it so wrong that games like Zumba Fitness and Just Dance sold well? The people who made those games were smart. They tapped into an audience, and they reaped the benefits from their decisions. Good for them!
So what if Skyward Sword didn't make the top 5 list? It was still praised across the gaming masses. Does its abscence from this list make it any less great of a game? Absolutely not.
Sure, this might be a sign that the casual market outnumbers the more hardcore market (a fact that honestly shouldn't be very surprising), but that doesn't mean that hardcore gamers are being ignored, like many people in the comments seem to be dispairing about...Skyward Sword, the Mario Galaxies, New Super Mario Bros., Rayman Origins, Return to Dreamland, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Monster Hunter Tri, Muramasa...We gamers are definitely getting our fair share here.
So everyone just chill out, and quit bashing games you've probably never played before.
I was SUUUPER psyched when I saw that Fatal Frame screenshot. That would be AWESOME if the series was ported to 3DS or something.
If it's a spin-off, I can only hope the quality will be just as good as the other games. And I hope it doesn't rely completely on AR to make ghosts appear in your house. The atmosphere those games build up through the environments is half of what makes those games work.
Drat, SMB3 was what I was kind of looking forward to the most. Still, I guess I have no right to complain, seeing as what's already coming my way in future months.
I think I'm one of the few people who still misses the style of Twilight Princes.
Don't get me wrong, this game looks great an all, but the darker overtones of TP were just more appealing to me. That won't stop me from picking this up when it comes out, though!
Hmm... I can't say that I agree with external gaming mechanics making the game scary. I can't really put into words what makes for a good scary game. However, these guys seem to do a good job of explaining it.
It's not like many people can RESIST panning down to the lowest page when they look at the long list of them in the news section. Curiosity got the better of me. I had no idea the site was this old... O.o
"A quick trip over to Flipnote Hatena is all it takes to see just how fantastic the free DSiWare animation tool Flipnote Studio can be when in talented hands."
AHAHAHAHAhahahahaa....hahaha...hmm... (I have to search around a lot for good ones...)
I don't think I'd WANT to download a comic onto my Wii or DSi (Unless it's free). It seems to have a "one time only" enjoyment factor, unless you're already a fan of comics, which is not the case for me.
That being said, this DOES look very interesting...Perhaps I'll download it on the iTouch when it comes out...
I would love love love to have this on the Wii. The game's art style and sense of humor are totally perfect for me! Here's to hoping for the consideration to turn into a confimation! Crosses Fingers
...Am I the only one who wasn't thoroughly impressed by the original? Probably because my friends don't really enjoy it too much, so the point of multiplayer for me is moot... Still think they should've added Wi-Fi...
I think you've pretty much hit everything I loved about the game. Fantastic story, great humor, awesome style, unique combat system, and the best soundtrack I've heard in years! Easily my favorite game of all time! I'm glad you guys finally got around to reviewing it!
Well shoot, I was planning on getting Rytmik, but if this one has a sharing feature it might cause me to hesitate. Guess I'll have to wait even longer to see...
Um...This was never an issue in Twilight Princess. Remember? In one of the flashbacks it panned over the statue of the three goddesses, and THEY were topless! It was no big deal. It didn't hurt the gameplay, and so fact I forgot about it as I continued playing.
Why this is such a big deal I'll never know. Kids can see a lot worse things on TV or the internet. As for the sacrificial storyline, KEEP THAT IN! It adds to atmosphere, which is what really makes a game immersive.
Probably just going to get the iPod version. I played the demo, and I have to say, the game DOES have a sense of humor...However, I just can't stand the stereotypes of teenagers. They definitely shine brightly in this game, and I cringe whenever I see them. Ah well, at least it's funny...
Sometimes it's not just the "prominent age ratings" that should put up a red flag in the parents' heads. The box arts themselves should give them some forewarning as well. I mean, if there's some dude standing with a bloody sword on top of a pile of decapitated corpses, it's probably not something you want your twelve year old playing. Indeed, parents hold a respectable amount of blame for children getting their hands on violent video games.
Ah, phooey! That's too bad...I've heard the same before... Oh well, I'll probably get this later, but for now Fatal Frame II has my friends and I occupied. (Too bad about the scare-factor...)

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Three
Thumbs up for Katawa Shoujo. I still need to finish one of the story arcs...
As for me, I'll be hitting up Theatrhythm as usual. And hopefully I'll be able to knock out Persona 4 in the next couple of days.
Re: Peek Between Your Fingers at a Project Zero 2 Trailer
It's literally just an re-done version of the intro from the 2nd game.
But I'm always all for anything Fatal Frame related, so I'm looking forward to this!
Re: Feature: Our Favourite 3DS Games so Far
I'm just going to come out and say it...

Dang...
I was hoping for something more...original...

Re: Nintendo Announces 2D Super Mario Title for 3DS
I think I've reached my saturation point with Mario.
Unless they do something RADICALLY different with this (not just new power-ups and such) this one's probably going to go completely under my radar...
Re: StreetPass for Items in Resident Evil Revelations
Such a shame that I live in a town that doesn't engage in much StreetPass.
Re: Super Mario 3D Land Beats All in 2011 3DS Chart
Good for Art Acadamy making the top 5!
I enjoyed the DSiWare version quite a bit...

Re: Review: Rayman Origins (Wii)
Love, Love, LOVE this game!
It's such a shame that it might have some less than stellar sales numbers, due to other games being released around the same time...

A very interesting premise.
I'll keep my eye on this.
Re: Review: Dead or Alive: Dimensions (3DS)
Happy to see it's a quality title.
This is probably the only 3DS game I've really looked forward to so far...
Re: First Impressions: Dead or Alive: Dimensions
Wow, I'm really excited for this game!
...But everyone here commenting on it makes me feel like a perv for wanting it. =/
Re: Angry Birds Dev Calls Nintendo Games "$49 Pieces of Plastic"
The guy made a simple game. A REALLY simple game.
I don't think he's important enough in the industry to have his opinions hold much weight at all.
Angry Birds isn't even all that fun...
Re: Hands On: Nintendo 3DS
I haven't been keeping up to date with this...
Has Nintendo addressed the problem that left-handed people might encounter with games that use the circle pad and the touch screen simultaneously?
Re: Features: The History of BIT.TRIP, Part 3
I just finished Flux today, and I'll have you know that the ending sequence practically made me teary-eyed!
I don't know how you guys at Gaijin did it, but you made me mourn the loss of a black square box with arms and legs...Good job!

I don't know about you guys, but that has me freakin' excited.
Re: Sonic Colours Soundtrack Racing to iTunes
Awesome, I love the music in this game!
Re: Review: Surfacer+ (DSiWare)
The idea for this game isn't exactly a new concept. I don't think the power-ups are enough to warrant the 500 points...

Re: Nintendo Download: 9th August 2010 (North America)
I don't care about this update. I was never looking FORWARD to this update. Nor am I looking forward to anything next week.
Rytmik comes out the week after that, and I have to say that there's nothing else I'm looking forward to at the moment.
So yeah, these terrible updates aren't bothering me so much.
Re: North America Gets Rytmik from August 23rd
This is a tad disappointing, but it's COMPLETELY overshadowed by the fact that I no longer have to wake up to disappointment every Monday morning!
Having a release date is very comforting!

Re: Embark on a New Adventure With Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light
Final Fantasy? Job system? Turn based combat? Sign me up. This has all the kinds of things I liked about FFIII, which was a fantastic game.
