Re: Nintendo Is Officially Skipping E3 2023

Beep_Beep

Historically, as of the last few years, no E3 = no full-sized first party focused direct. I'll remain cautiously optimistic, but it doesn't bode well that Nintendo is skipping E3 without an obvious, definite reason. I can understand costs being high, but Nintendo has been EXTREMELY successful recently. It's more likely that they just don't have anything/don't want to show anything. TOTK is releasing at a strange time, so that might've complicated their schedule.
R.I.P. E3. The fun times will be missed.

Re: Random: We've Been Waiting Over Half A Decade For A "New" Mainline Zelda Game

Beep_Beep

I'm just surprised that it's taking longer than the original game to develop when from what we know, the majority of BOTW's development time was creating and fine-tuning the engine and physics system. BOTW2 as far as we're aware is reusing the engine, physics, at least part of the map, and many assets from the original.
It's also taking longer than OOT to develop when OOT had to navigate many challenges of being one of the first action adventure 3D games. The developers had to invent a lot of completely unheard of mechanics and systems with practically no examples from other games. Games were simpler back then, but it's still surprising.
I'm hopeful that BOTW2 will have a lot of new features and mechanics, and will be better than the first game. Maybe it'll even be the best Zelda game of all time. I'm sure that the team at Nintendo will create something fun, thought provoking, and engaging at the absolute least.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Warriors Games - Every Switch Musou Game Ranked

Beep_Beep

Age of Calamity's gameplay was ok, and the soundtrack was good, but the story personally missed the mark for me. It wouldnt've been so bad if it wasn't for the false advertising. The way they went about marketing the game was incredibly misleading in terms of narrative. Interesting to see it place first. I'm happy that so many people enjoyed it.

Re: The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 Delayed To Spring 2023

Beep_Beep

I've heard that the majority of time spent developing BOTW was actually fine-tuning the physics system/engine, so it's very interesting that BOTW2 is taking so long when they're reusing assets and the engine.
If I understand correctly, this will be the longest time between mainline Zelda entries in the series' history if we count mainline games on handheld systems. If we don't count mainline handheld games, then the longest time between main console releases will be between ALTTP and OOT, which makes since given that 3D gaming was brand new at the time and standards for 3D action adventure games were still being set.
In all seriousness, I hope this only means that the game will be a true masterpiece, and will be what BOTW should have been.
In humor, the game better have classic style dungeons. 🤣

Re: Chrono Trigger Gets Ultrawide 21:9 PC Update (But Still No Nintendo Switch Release)

Beep_Beep

@rushiosan
I played through the game for the first time on PC last year and absolutely loved it. It may not be nearly as perfect as the original SNES release, but with all the patches over the years it has gotten pretty close. (Obviously it would've been better if they had just released it like this in the first place, but I digress.) While the SNES or DS versions (which I've since played) would be preferable, the PC version is not a bad way to play the game at all if it's your only option, especially considering how cheap it is compared to physical copies. Personally, I'd say the worst things about the PC version are the irremovable meter overlays during battles, and maybe the new exclamation mark feature added in this update if it is also irremovable. Other than those two things, there are no major flaws. I would encourage giving the PC port a second look.

Re: Video Game History Foundation Calls Out Nintendo's "Destructive" 3DS & Wii U eShop Closure

Beep_Beep

I don't really understand why companies aren't acting more to preserve video games when we know how much we've lost in the film industry. Until games are considered art by EVERYONE, I don't think we'll see very many big efforts to archive and preserve games and game development materials unfortunately. Unless Nintendo has a secret vault where they keep all their stuff. 😂

Re: Nintendo Blocks Another 2,200 Videos On YouTube Featuring Its Music

Beep_Beep

This is so sad.
Gilvasunner has been a trusted music uploader for years...
And now the channel is dead.
Nintendo is well within their rights to do this, but that doesn't necessarily make it the right solution.
Nintendo could've claimed the videos and earned money from them while still allowing them to stay up, or they could've started their own YouTube music channel. But they didn't.
I've bought video games before because the music was so good.
For music I really like I buy a CD soundtrack to support Nintendo or whatever other company the game is owned by and the composers.
But they don't offer soundtracks for most games, and the ones they do have I've had to import so they end up being really expensive.
I wish Nintendo would offer an alternative, because there is literally no way to listen to most of their music legally.
Especially when having the music available is actually a sort of advertisement. Judging by other comments, I'm not the only one to have bought games because of the music.

Re: Kingdom Hearts Cloud Collection Arrives On Switch In February, Pricing Revealed

Beep_Beep

Such a letdown.
The Kingdom Hearts games were in my list of most wanted Switch ports...
But I absolutely can't support cloud versions, I like to actually own my games. I know that you have less "ownership rights" so to speak with digital versions of games, and that it's unsure how long you'll be able to keep them for in the future, but cloud versions don't even try to hide it. They straight up tell you that the game you're playing isn't and won't be your game, you're just renting it at a premium price... And as soon as the servers shut down.... Gone, never to be played again.
But hey, isn't Square Enix generous bringing these titles over for the 20th anniversary? So gracious...

Re: Three Kingdom Hearts Games Are Coming To Switch, But They're All Cloud Versions

Beep_Beep

These were on my list of top wanted switch ports, I'm not going to buy them though if this is how they're coming over. I can understand KH3, but there's literally no reason that games initially made for the PS2, and later ported to the PS3 shouldn't be able to run on switch. It truly is a shame. I hope that this doesn't become an even more common move in the future, but it's inevitable at this point.

Re: Fantastic Metroid Dread Trailer Shows Off Frantic Gameplay And A New-Look Kraid

Beep_Beep

I don't normally complain about spoilers, but I would've really appreciated if you hadn't put spoilers right in the title and thumbnail. Kraid being in the game would've been a really fun surprise to discover on my own. I understand that this is a Nintendo news site, but you could've just had the title state that there was a new trailer released, and include details in the article itself. Although it's up for debate if things shown off in trailers should REALLY be considered spoilers, I personally feel that many recent trailers reveal too much about the games, especially with a game like this, where a major part of the appeal is the discovery and exploration. I didn't read the article or watch the trailer, but if the reactions I've heard are anything to go by, this game seems to be shaping up to be a great game. I can only hope it finds a way to balance the amazing exploration and atmosphere of Super Metroid, with the stealth elements of Metroid Fusion.

Re: Soapbox: Chiptune Is Great, But The Impact Of A Full Orchestra Is Unbeatable

Beep_Beep

Normally I prefer midi and chiptune soundtracks. I find that a lot of the time, orchestral music in video games comes off as soulless and messy if done incorrectly. Take the orchestral versions of One Winged Angel from FFVII for instance. Personally when I listen to these, I don't enjoy them as much as the original. To me, they lack the punch and weight that the original had. These renditions aren't necessarily bad, they just sound...off. This goes for a lot of modern games that use orchestral music, ironically there's more instruments playing, but the songs sound more empty. Of course if done correctly orchestral soundtracks can be amazing. As mentioned in the article, Mario Galaxy and Skyward Sword are two examples of great orchestral soundtracks imo.

Re: New Zelda: Breath Of The Wild 2 Footage Shown, Aiming For A 2022 Switch Release

Beep_Beep

I don't know how to feel about it. Not a fan of Link's redesign, I hope he's at least the same character and they don't pull any stuff like him "fusing with the past hero to become one person" or something like that. The skies and islands looked really cool but they didn't seem to be visible for half the trailer, specifically the parts with Link's old design. Which just worries me more that they'll completely change Link's character or personality halfway through the game. Those new powers were interesting, but that clip of Link? just casually melting through solid rock is cursed 😂. They didn't reveal dungeons or anything but I'll hold out hope for a little longer. Anyway, I hope this game ends up being decent at least and doesn't completely destroy the franchise forever. Honestly at this point, the series seems to be heading the wrong way.

Re: Feature: Zelda: A Link Between Worlds Foreshadowed Breath Of The Wild's Big Changes

Beep_Beep

Honestly I preferred alttp to albw. I still enjoyed albw but it didn't really have that feel of progression and the difficulty curve was way off. Since the player could do most dungeons in any order Nintendo's solution was to give all the dungeons roughly the same difficulty. This lead to the game feeling a bit bland and easy. Botw suffered from the same problems. I hope Nintendo will be able to find a better balance between open-air and traditional zelda gameplay in the future.

Re: OLED Display Firm Mentions 'Switch Pro' During Its Q1 Investors Call

Beep_Beep

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I really don't want there to be a "Switch Pro". It would almost be an insult to the Switch's absolutely massive install base which continues to grow. The Switch doesn't really have any competition from the new generation of consoles since the Switch is it's own thing. Creating a Switch pro with all the features the internet is expecting would be very costly, and frankly silly given that Nintendo currently has a whole section of the market to themselves. In my personal opinion, the best way to go about releasing a Switch Pro would be a "Pro Dock" sold separately. If Nintendo could find a way to add the enhancements to the dock rather than the console it would be a win for most people. It would likely be much cheaper, it would be easier for people who already own a Switch to upgrade, and they could still sell "Switch Pro" bundles by switching out the regular dock for a Pro Dock. There could even be themed Pro Docks. The only downside I can think of would be the loss of handheld mode. But honestly the vast majority of people begging for a Switch Pro don't really care about handheld mode anyway. Either way, those are just my thoughts. We'll have to wait to see if Nintendo will announce anything.

Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Hits Switch This July Alongside Themed Joy-Con

Beep_Beep

I'm honestly kind of heartbroken they didn't port over Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD. I thought that that would be the least they would do for the 35th anniversary since they haven't been brought over to the switch yet somehow. At least we got a Skyward Sword port, even if it IS one of my least favorite games in the series. Those joycons look pretty nice though.

Re: Frame Rate And Resolution For Pikmin 3 Deluxe Demo Seemingly Revealed

Beep_Beep

@COVIDberry

  • I can definitely understand where you're coming from with your point about the ground textures. Many of them do look outdated, this doesn't always bother me but I can see why for some people it would distract from the game. From what I can remember, the resolution on the original release wasn't really a problem. This might have been helped with the fact that a lot of important objects and characters in the game are color coded with vibrant colors to stand out from each other and the environment. We don't know for sure how much the resolution will affect the late game until we get the full version later this month.
  • The stylus controls on the Wii U were my definitive way to play Pikmin. It is a disappointment they were taken out, but I can understand the reasoning. The Wii U gamepad had a resistive touchscreen designed to be used with an included stylus, while the Switch has a capacitive touchscreen designed to be used with your finger. This makes the Switch touchscreen worse for precise movements such as throwing Pikmin. Although it would have been nice to keep the option there for those who wanted to use it.

Re: Frame Rate And Resolution For Pikmin 3 Deluxe Demo Seemingly Revealed

Beep_Beep

This is not a "lazy port". This game was updated with numerous quality of life features, new story missions, co-op, new difficulty modes, and accessibility options. My only disappointment is the removed touch controls, although that makes some sense because of the differences between the Wii U and Switch's touch screens. This port is Nintendo giving the pikmin franchise the chance it deserves on a console with a large user base. Most pikmin games up to this point have been released on consoles with disappointing sales. (Except for the new play control! Wii releases, and hey pikmin! but......) With all these new features I don't care if it doesn't have 60fps, I can see why people are disappointed but I feel that it doesn't discount the game to "lazy port status". I'm just glad pikmin might finally have a chance to see some well deserved success.

Edit: Changed a few sentences to reflect the releases of pikmin 1 and 2 on wii

Re: Minecraft's Steve Revealed As Super Smash Bros. Ultimate's Next DLC Fighter

Beep_Beep

I kinda grew up with Minecraft, and it holds a special place in my heart even if I don't play it as often as I used to. That being said, I'm not too happy with this character inclusion. To be honest, I don't even know if you could consider Steve a "character", he's really more of a player avatar akin to the miis. However, the miis fit Nintendo's aesthetic, have three distinct playstyle variations and can even wear different costumes. Steve is just a generic interpretation of a human with no personality whatsoever. In my opinion, he won't really add anything to the game except for broken mechanics. Oh well, I'm glad that so many people are happy about it, I mean Minecraft IS one of the most popular games of all time, and hey, at least he's not another fire emblem character. 😂
