@ss213 It's not a counterfeit copy because it needs the original game, which you must already have. Not illegal, just a mod, because you have the right to modify the things that you own however you like.
@AlienX Actually porting emulators is not just about recompiling the code for another target. Usually a lot of code needs to be rewritten to change api calls or to support different instruction sets. Porting emulators with dynarec is difficult for this very reason. The guy is definitely a very skilled programmer: fore the OG XBox he implemented a pagination system that allowed emulators that he ported to play roms that were larger than the amount of ram of the XBox. I didn't play the shantae game but the fact that he is a homebrew developer does not mean that he is not capable of pulling this off.
@AlienX Actually he has ported many emulators and other projects to a lot of different consoles and is a quite known programmer in the homebrew community. He probably is not less skilled than the people that developed the GB virtual console at Nintendo.
@KateGray I criticized you in the past but I like to give credit where credit is due. I applaud you. Great piece of journalism. Please keep up this good work and don't be afraid (I'm sure you won't be) to criticize big companies too when they deserve it.
@nimnio I'm not going to enter an argument with you or others. I just said what I thought. If you don't agree or think that I misunderstood what she meant then that's fair. The fact is that I am not the only one who thinks this. Have a good week.
@JoeyTS I agree with you about the fact that journalists shouldn't tell you how you should feel about something. They should just point out important facts (which you may have missed or forgotten about) related to the news along with it. These days journalists (not just game journalists) almost never do it. Serious youtubers do it far more than journalists.
Still, I don't believe the original comment, as it was phrased, was rude.
@UndercookedBacon Yeah, it won't lead us anywhere because we perceive the original comment radically differently.
I want to close with a little note: I believe that most non-game-journalists aren't real journalists either.
@UndercookedBacon He didn't just say it in a random article. He was on topic. If they didn't want criticism they shouldn't have posted the article or they should have closed the comment section. Criticism isn't bad just because it makes some people sad.
@KateGray Yeah, the problem is that you wrote it just because someonelse in the industry said something. The reality is that journalists (not just game journalists) seldom hold people accountable these days. I very rarely see something like "but remember that x years ago they did/said y which completely disagrees with what they are saying now" here on Nintendolife and, in fairness, in any other website where "journalists" write.
@UndercookedBacon he did not insult. He argomented sufficiently well. And I agree with him. Journalism means keeping power (in this case game companies) accountable for what they do and say. It doesn't seem to me that it is what happens here or in any other mainstream game related website. There is nothing wrong in what Nintendolife does, in my opinion. It's just that it isn't journalism.
@quinnyboy58 I totally agree with you. @KateGray he was definitely not rude. He just expressed an opinion you happen to (strongly, I guess) disagree with. Still, he was definitely, by any meaning of the word, not rude.
I don't see the problem with this game since it is targeted at adults. I am in general in favour of cancel culture when it is about important stuff: slavery, pedophilia, rape, etc because people that committed those crimes, no matter the century they lived in, should not have a legacy. That's my 2 cents.
@Coach_A Mods are usually not illegal since they are not shared with the original game. They are just "patches" you apply to the game you supposedly dumped yourself.
@holygeez03 they could have easily added an option to turn on or off widescreen (maybe they did). Look at the resolution of the game in another article here on Nintendolife. The mario 64 port clearly received little attention from nintendo.
@holygeez03 you can't compare a movie to a videogame so simply. In a movie you only get to see from specific points of view, those chosen by the director. In a 3d game you can explore all you want. Why going to such lengths to defend the laziness of a company you don't even work for?
Stuff like this is why people don't trust computer science: it is flimsy at best. Why didn't GF had a check in place to prevent stuff like this from happening? Could it be that they are relying on user testing the game for free rather than paying proper playtesting? More examples of how much GF is greedy imho.
@johnvboy I never said that the game is universally hated (because it isn't) or even that the majority hated it. I'm just saying that there is a significant amount of people that are deeply disappointed by it. As you stated sales are never an indication of the quality of a product. And in this case, since most of the sales were from kids (no offence to kids, we all have been kids) this is particularly true, imho.
@johnvboy I never said my experience was of any statistical significance. It's just that there are a lot of people that hated this game. I don't know the percentage. But they are a lot. And their reasons for doing so shouldn't be disregarded as whining as some (not necessarily you) have done in this site.
@TG16_IS_BAE I and the other people I know would have been fine with a game that didn't add a lot of new stuff but kept all the old stuff. Instead they removed the stuff that was in 40€ games on the 3ds, and sold it separately as dlc of a game that costs 60€. Moneygrabbing with no attention to quality and no respect for fans. Of course kids will buy it regardless of all this. I would have too.
Ok an example to clear the problem for stubborn people. User A owns an object. The object belongs to A. A decided to bring it to B and pay him to modify the object in a way that adds new features to the object that A owns. B does it and gets paid for his work. Piracy? No I was talking about people that have their cars modded to make them go much faster than they were supposed to. You can totally do that. If you bought an object it is yours and you can have it modified as much as you want.
@TheFullAndy not by me. My complaint about SWSH has been that it is just an half game made just to grab money with the least effort possible. And the fact that they removed pokemon to be able to then add them as a separate dlc proves that. But I don't want to start that discussion all over again. I respect your opinion anyway.
P.S.: I did not buy SWSH, I borrowed it from a friend.
@TheFullAndy You are, because you are implying that adults should not buy kids games for themselves. Most nintendo games are kids games. You may very well dislike pokemon games, but saying that you don't like them because they are kids games is, well, strange in a Nintendo "fan" site.
@TheFullAndy that means that the joke is even more effective than I thought it would be
EDIT: try Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon. They are, IMHO, the best pokemon games out there.
EDIT2: I have finished Pokémon Sword too but it's not as good as USUM. Mainly because its lack of post game content and because it lacks half of pokemon.
@TheFullAndy According to Cambridge dictionary: sarcasm ->
"remarks that mean the opposite of what they say, made to criticize someone or something in a way that is amusing to others but annoying to the person criticized". I guess the definition is right...
EDIT: Moreover, did you know that you can make a joke without actually believing the joke?
Super Mario Odyssey Remastered o.O Just joking. I really, really hope they remaster Galaxy 1&2. It would be great if they added 3DLand to the 3DWorld port.

Re: Random: This Suggestive Bridge Made It To The Switch Version Of Super Mario 3D World
@rjejr when the kid will become an artist and do some art then THAT will be considered differently than a sketch of a penis in a blackboard.
Re: Random: This Suggestive Bridge Made It To The Switch Version Of Super Mario 3D World
@rjejr it's like comparing a stylised drawing of a penis that some students do on the blackboard to a famous painting. It's not the same thing.
Re: Random: This Suggestive Bridge Made It To The Switch Version Of Super Mario 3D World
@rjejr That's Donatello's David. It's an iconic masterpiece that is in a square here in Italy (where most art is). It's a different story altogether.
