@khululy I'm sorry, are you referring to my comment about DF? It's my fault that I am not sure about what you are referring to since I posted quite a lot of consecutive comments.
About DF I agree with you: for some their analysis are fascinating, for others are of no use. I don't see why someone would complain that they do such analysis in the first place.
@Damo That's what I wanted to hear. Thank you very much! I love this site even though I do not always agree with the reviews etc. Keep up the good work!
EDIT: I love this community too
@Mrnotultra The funny thing is that the guy included companies that are not based in the USA and guys that are not american nor live in the USA. (Should I say "the USA" or just "USA"? I am Italian, sorry) How can they be traitors of america?
@IanC14 Could you articulate more on you argument? Why are DF the worst? They just give information that is quite accurate as far as I know. If you believe that information is irrelevant you can just ignore it. Are there any DF related "scandals" that I am not aware of?
@Damo You didn't deny that NL gets compensated for review scores. If it does not, can you deny it please? I will keep on following this site anyway but it would be good to know when (if) reviews are sponsored or at least if it has happened in the past, even if you can't tell us which particular reviews were (if true) paid.
@graysoncharles I see your point and I am aware that the switch is weaker than an entry level "gaming" pc. The problem for me is that low resolution makes my eyes strain and, combined with fps drops, makes me nauseous. This is a problem for me and, I believe, for many other gamers. I would prefer a game with ps2 graphics but with 900/1080p and locked fps (30 or, better, 60). In my opinion it is preferable to have a game with extremely low poligon count but that targets 900p docked (even with dynamic resolution) than a game that looks better on paper but is rendered at sub-hd resolutions in docked, simply because those details that you gain are just extremely blurry. This is just my opinion. Moreover games like botw and odyssey show that it is possible to find the correct (again, in my opinion) compromise between resolution, graphics and fps.
@beazlen1 I watched the screenshots and they were more than enough for me. They were blurry as hell even when I watched them with my smartphone in portrait mode.
@mazzel yeah I will. I usually tend to prefer watching at screenshots because the youtube compression algorithm tends to make games look worse than they are. Anyway, thanks for the recommendation!
@Indielink yeah the point I was trying to make is that although they did an excellent job the end result is still, in my humble opinion, pretty bad. But maybe it's just me: low resolutions and fps make me literally nauseous so I may be biased.
@mazzel yeah I believe I am one of the unfortunate players that have this problem. About xbcdx: I read that the game while docked dropped to sub hd resolution but you are saying that it is not blurry. Could it be that such low resolutions are just so rare that a player would never notice it? I would love it if they attached percentages to resolutions, something like 95% of frames are in this resolution, 4.9% in this other one and only 0.1% in this extremely low resolution. It would help players like me make more informed decisions.
@mazzel I can totally see your point and I believe that our different opinions actually stem from similar premises. I do not believe that graphic is the most important factor in a game. There are countless games, as you said, with awesome graphics but that are not actually enojoyable, at least for our tastes. I would not have the switch as my only current gen console if I didn't agree with you on that point. What I believe is that graphics and resolution are not the same thing. You can use an emulator of psx and play crash bash in 1080p but that doesn't mean that you are making the game have good graphics. The problem, for me, is that low resolution makes my eyes strain to recognise what is shown in the screen. Similarly, fps drops make me literally nauseous. This is why these two things make an otherwise brilliant game unenjoyable for me. I would prefer a game with ps2 graphics but in 900/1080p to a game with much better graphics but displayed in sub hd. Moreover, games like botw, odyssey, mk8dx etc show that it is possible to find the right compromise between good graphics and resolution.
@Indielink because games like these and mario odyssey, mario kart etc show that it is possible to have a game that is not blurry to the point where you can't understand what is happening in the screen. This is just my opinion of course. I am not saying that graphics should be above all else. If I thought that I wouldn't have the switch as my only current gen console. I am saying that resolution and fps are important for the experience. Low resolution makes my eyes strain and fps drops make me nauseous. This is why I believe they are very important parameters to evaluate a game. I am not saying that the developers that ported Switcher and other games are games did a bad job (although I believe they could have done better). If I and my friends managed to build a car with the limited resources we have it would be an incredible achievement. Still, nobody would pay full price for our half assed car.
@mazzel I see your point but we are consumers, not developers. We should just judge the end result and not why it is different in my opinion. I would very much prefer a game with ps2 graphics but in 1080p 30fps(or, better, 60fps) locked rather than fancy light effects and sub hd blurrness all over the place.
@Yydeckarc Actually windows phone was extremely good. Because it didn't run Java it was capable of providing a smooth experience with just half a gig of ram, for example. The real problem of windows phone was its lack of support. Apps like facebook, instagram, snapchat and youtube would have probably pushed it forward.
The team that ported this collection did a good job apparently. This makes it so much more evident how other games such as The Witcher 3 and XBCDE should be shamed for their extremely low resolution.
@sixrings I have 18.5/20 and I can notice the problem too. I don't know how people don't. It would have been far better to have worse textures and light effects and 1080p. Resolution != visuals. Visuals are not important but resolution is because it makes your eyes strain when it is low.
@gameboy1975 I agree with what you say. Frames per second (and, to a lesser degree, resolution) should always, always be taken into account and lower the score by some points when they are not adequate. We should stop accepting games that do not run well on our consoles regardless of the name of the game. If it makes people naseous it should be a 4 or lower. If you can't understand what is happening in the screen because everything is too blurry it should be a 4 or lower. And I'm not just talking about switch. Ps4 has struggled with fps too.
@gameboy1975 you know that a discussion is not a race right? It's not a matter of winning or losing. I did not change my point, I just articulated it better because you did not understand it (you should know that words change meaning depending on the context in which they appear). Moreover, you said that this game is regarded by some people as a cult. Do you really think NL staff do not regard it as a (niche) cult? It seems like you are taking my comments way too personally even though I'm not offending anyone and certainly not you.
@gameboy1975 You don't make sense: in your other reply you said that there are some gamers that kept this game as cult. This is what I mean with famous. It is famous in this community and in Nintendo hardcore community.
@BulbasaurusRex I totally agree with you. The problem is when fps keep changing and it makes me nauseous. This game suffers from this problem, as stated in another article here on NL.
@NoNoseNosferatu I have noticed that they are biased towards famous games multiple times. What happens is, I believe, that they review the game without actually taking into account the performance issues (both resolution and fps). They mention them, usually, but it seems like they don't influence the score. On the other hand they have given bad scores to less famous (mostly indie) games because of performance issues. I call this being biased. You can disagree with me and that's fine but please don't call my opinion asinine. I'm not saying they do it in bad faith. We are all biased in some way. It's just that they are biased in this way, in my humble opinion. I also believe that constructive criticism is essential for improvement. Maybe they will notice it too (I doubt it) and try to be more aware. Still, it's just my opinion.
@Heavyarms55 millions pf people gave it a chance because it is pokemon and they like pokemon. Most of the "haters" of swsh are pokemon fans. Many of them (don't know the percentage) were then disappointed by the game's lack of content for the price.
@roadrunner343 I totally agree with you and I expected someone to make your points. It's disappointing that so many people form and share opinions without actually knowing the contract.
Baldo, Blue fire and The last campfire seem awesome. Summer in mara and I am dead are really interesting too. I was overall amused by this direct. Now I'm aboard the hype train for the big direct next week (according to the rumors).
Here in Italy we are required by law to stay at home except for work, health and necessities like groceries and walking the dog. But except for that it is pretty much normal, at least in my town (even though I am in one of the most hit regions): supermarkets are full of stuff and people don't seem to be panicking: they wear masks and stay away from each other but that's it.
Edit: in hospitals the situation is actually crazy.
I am in Italy and the whole country is blocked because of the COVID-19 outbreak (I constantly watch the official data and young people don't need to worry!). We have to stay at home except for work, medical care and groceries.
So I really hope Nintendo releases some very good games I can have delivered at my place to play while I'm stuck at home (I'm in University so I don't need to go to work).
I'm really rooting for Galaxy 1&2 hd or Galaxy 3, one of the wiiu zelda remasters, some more info on botw2 (probably too early), some new IP I can't even imagine. Oh and persona 5! @Mynameishello I am glad that you and many other enjoy ports like The Witcher 3 on switch. It definitely is a good game. This is the point I wanted to make. If nintendo can do it then the others sould too, if they want to sell the game for 60€. This is just my opinion and how I manage my hard earned money.
