Re: Iwata Looking To Emulate iOS And Android With A Common Platform For Future Nintendo Hardware

@rjejr Not so fast, bucko:
1-iOS is a derivative of OSX; that's why you can get and run iOS apps in your Mac.
2-Also, people does not like Windows 8 because the UI is messy. Not to mention Android and iOS has the tablet market cornered.
3-Yeah, that's a somewhat valid concern, but that does not mean they will make the same game for 2 platforms. Instead, it could make developement easier since they would need just 1 engine to run various games.

@Bliquid

"It's certainly an interesting concept; a Nintendo OS which can run on multiple hardware configurations and promises widespread compatibility, therefore allowing you to upgrade as time goes on without losing access to older software. It also ties in with Nintendo's plans to create a more robust, account-based user system — another element of Apple and Google's software which Nintendo would do well to replicate."

Re: Feature: Breaking Down What Nintendo's QOL Platform Could Mean

Wow, I already see people feeling "betrayed", even when Nintendo stated they will stick with consoles and handhelds.

This reminds me when Porsche released the Cayenne SUV and people claimed they have sold out and the 911 will die or something. The 911 didn't die. In fact, it got better because the Cayenne provided them enough money to keep building and improving the 911. Heck, it even help to fund their halo cars (Carrera GT and the 918).

This is pretty much a similar strategy: looking for another bigger market to fund its flagship one.

Re: Talking Point: Is There A Future For The Wii U Without The GamePad?

AJ_Lethal

No, since it will leave it at a worse position than it is now. I mean, do you think the concept of a "traditional console, but weaker than the competition (which will be greatly exagerrated, knowing the internet.)" will ever work? I don't think so. Instead, what Nintendo should look for is for ways of making Wii U's production cheaper.

However I could see the Gamepad rendered optional when the Wii U enters it's final stages of life.

Re: Talking Point: Claims of Wii U Third-Party Development Troubles Shouldn't Be Dismissed Lightly

AJ_Lethal

@Squiggle55 No, axing the Wii U now will be a huge mistake. People and developers who went for the machine will get burned (Nintendo can't afford that), losing trust and worsening things up. Also, it will be more expensive than soldering on with the U this gen for the next 3-5 years, since it still has to recoup their R&D costs as much as possible.

Also, you're asking to NN to do leaps in an absurd timeframe. It's still in it's infancy, FGS. NN will be as competent as PSN or XBL in 2-3 years.

Its a rather complicated situation that leads to the continuous 3rd party catch-22 problematic (no games, no systems; no systems? no games). Somebody has to yield in, and so far Nintendo's only option is ramping up manpower to get more games out of the gate to accomplish it. I know Nintendo screwed up in some areas (like assuming western 3rd parties have a sense pf goodwill -looking at you, EA-) but 3rd parties also have a share of the blame due late/crippled ports (mainly), and oblivious to the average Nintendo audience.
