With The Crown Tundra now available to enjoy in Pokémon Sword and Shield, the series' eighth generation of games is theoretically complete. Alongside the base games, we've had The Crown Tundra and The Isle of Armor DLC packs, both of which have added more content and more Pokémon into the mix.
As you'll no doubt remember from the months leading up to the games' release, some fans were left desperately upset after realising that not every monster would be returning. The DLC has gone some way to restoring this, but there are still 234 of the little beasts that are unavailable to obtain in the games, either natively or through trading from past titles.
We suppose it's possible that Game Freak could still decide to add them in with a later patch, but assuming the DLC is well and truly finished, here are those 234 Pokémon that remain unavailable (thanks Serebii / Nintendo Soup):

Nope! Floatzel remains unavailable, and my $90 remains safe.
Nope. That's probably for the best though considering I'll never be touching the game again anyway.
Still really dumb that they decided to do this when for the most part these models and animations are ported straight from the 3DS games anyway.
And this is Pokémon we're talking about, not a B series title. I think it's fair to expect more from Pokémon.
It's whatever though. They lost me with these games but lots of people still enjoyed it somehow.
"Gotta catch 'em ALMOST all!!!"
I can imagine that they pull a Gen 3 on us and release the reamining 234 with the Gen 4 remakes.
(For those who don't know: Back in Gen 3 we also had a dexit, until the national dex was unlocked by connecting your RS games to your FRLG edition)
It's a crime greninja isn't there. One more expansion please game freak!
I am a simple person. If Squirtle is there, I am satisfied.
Btw: His german name is Shiggy.
Well, at least Litten's here.
Still a number of my favorites missing. sigh
Shameful. Still gigantic proof that the game needed to be delayed, but unfortunately, it doesn't seem Gamefreak believes in the much-quoted Miyamoto quote that I'm sure you've all heard many times by now.
234 Pokémon to go until I ever buy another Pokemon game.
Wait, they cut Greninja?!
Out of 100 second generation Pokémon, only 56 returned?
That's pretty nuts.
Gen 2 ((, waiting for my fav Cyndaquil and Typhlosion
At this point, I'm over the frustration and disappointment and am perfectly content to continue playing the Gen 7 games. Honestly, I kind of breathed a sigh of relief to find out that 234 are still absent, because I that still justifies $90 USD safely staying in my pocket and my backlog not collecting more dust while my entire gaming time gets engulfed by Pokemon.
They should have made an effort to make sure that all the starters made it in at the very least. But you know...gotta catch 'em some.
Guess we'll be getting another overpriced Expansion Pack then...
Nop, my favourite 234 Pokémon didn't make it.
Hopefully they release a real next gen Pokemon game with all of them. Would be cool to add some rogue-like elements for super rare ones to encourage trading. Like Beedrill could appear in X amount of games, etc. Just to keep the online community super engaged. Idk. Just an idea!
I'm fine with this. I preferred the focus on new and regional forms over the same ones I've caught and battle so many times already. It was really nice to have all the new ones not be quite so watered down amongst an overwhelming amount of old ones and to have completing the 'Dex be an actual achievable goal!
The ideal for me would be going back to the gen 5 Black & White system of locking all the old 'mon away as post-game content. But this was an excellent middle ground for me.
(And, no, not all of my favourites made it in)
This isn't the issue for me. My problem is that Pokémon Shield is so boring and slow to play. It's such a B-grade title.
Geodude
Graveler
Golem
Grimer
Muk
Drowzee
Hypno
Slugma
Magcargo
Numel
Camerupt
Turtwig
Grotle
Torterra
Tepig
Pignite
Emboar
Are one of my favorites
I only know gen 1, and of those, I only care about Geodude and Mankey. And when I say "I care", I mean I like their designs and would miss them if left out of Pokémon Snap 2. The Snap game(s) are the only Pokémon games I have any interest in.
Nope. Plusle is my favorite
@riChchestM definitely not the best they could have done. Was a good B game though
I haven't played SwSh at all because I'm still burned out of USUM, but looking at this list it's safe to say pretty much 90% of my favorites have been cut off. It's almost like GF knows me personally and handpicked my 'mons out.
Last weekend I checked the list of Moves that were removed from SwSh and it feels like GF wants to restart pokemon with a clean slate. It's kind of understandable, actually. Still, no Fearow/Primeape/Victreebell/Golem/Dewgong/Muk/Ampharos/Houndoom/Masquerain/Breeloom is no game for me
Loads of my favourites there. Dreadful approach when the game’s already a turgid slog full of tired mechanics. Just give me Pokepark 3, the gameplay mechanics in those games are more interesting than the main games are these days.
I'm not too worried, it's too soon for generation 9 so I'm still expecting either a second expansion pass or a gen 4 remake.
(or at least some kind of game that brings these Pokemon back)
A few favourites in there but overall I'm glad they did this. Dex was getting too long. This way I could actually finish the dex for once (twice if you include lets go pikachu).
New pokemon games should be about new pokemon with few returning ones. It's about a new adventure and liking new pokemon, not bringing in your level 100s from gen 5 at the end of the game so you can stare at them and do absolutely nothing with them (might as well just keep them in Pokemon Home). At least that's what it means to me.
I am more disappointed that the dlc brought back legends (ruining online battling) and how it introduced very few new pokemon to be honest. I'd rather see more different regional pokemon rather than 100s of returning old ones that will either be stuffed in a box or ignored because I already have 15 of each in Pokemon Home and have to release tons of them.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see something announced next year for the 25th anniversary that will bring them back with a new expansion or simply make them available to be transferred in...
They have to have something for next year and I think the new generation is out of the question with how young this one still is including the expansion.
Also I quite enjoyed shield, it’s far from being a great game but as my first Pokémon game (been wanting to play this since I was a kid) it was an ok introduction and i can’t miss what I never had... also in my point of view the expansion and gradual add of Pokémon gave me initiative to complete the pokedexes by never making the task too daunting (always only needed a few more). That said I can see why people who are not new to the franchises would not see things the same way.
It's kind of bizarre that Greninja, the most popular Pokemon since Pikachu, is still not in the game.
This doesn't bother me at all as all of my favs, new and old, made it in. But there is no reason why we can't have the national dex.
Cant they just patch it so we can transfer them from pokemon home?
Fifty years from now: Here is a list of the 234 Pokemon that are missing from the half million included in Pokemon 2070.
The masses: Nintendo and GameFreak are lazy and greedy.
@BowtieShyGuy To be fair, the Pokemon were programmed into the game that time, they just weren't legally available yet, since Gen 1/2.
@Dremp To be fair, finishing the dex in Sun and Moon didn't require any imported Pokemon, there was no 'national dex'. So cutting Pokemon isn't what shortened the dex.
@Salnax They can advertise Greninja's return as a selling point for the next game and people will eat it up.
As for me, I'm just glad Joltik is in and Luxray and Hawlucha made it in with DLC. The rest of my top 10 (Houndoom, Cranidos, Chimchar, Typhlosion, Honchcrow, Pyroar, Gogoat) all remain cut.
I'm still kinda annoyed that they claimed they didn't have time to port models to Switch when literally every Kanto Pokemon already was for Let's Go, and compatibility was cut anyways. I'd be fine with them being transport only and not in the dex, but no compatibility at all?
Two of my favourites (Misdreavus, and my favourite of all, Shaymin) are still out of SwSh, but i'm holding out hope, next year is the franchise's 25th anniversary, yet there's no game announced except "New pokemon snap", it's more likely that they're working on more DLC (Given how successful the current DLC is) than a whole new game...
It would be a very "Game freak" thing to do, removing half the pokedex, only to sell it back to us as DLC, and it would mark the anniversary well, "Yay to us for 25 years! Here are your pokemon back!"
It's sad and kind of telling that we even need to have an article like this.
The sad part is Sword/Shield has sold very well despite the developer's laziness with aspects of the game and not having all Pokemon in it. Now this sets a precedent for them to just do this everytime and sell piece-meal DLC later.
I spoke with my wallet and did not buy either of these games. Messing with their money is the only way they will listen.
It’s literally only 234 left, like at this point why not add those back in? Not that I’m going to rage about it, but I hardly see how these 234 are making any sort of difference either way.
Anyway, I’m annoyed most of the starters are benched :/
More than enough for them to release more DLC. I wouldn't be surprised if that happens.
Not to forget about the 100/200 missing moves in tbe game! It's also pretty funny that a lot of Gen 1 Pokémon are missing, even though they had all of 'em in the Let's Go-games... I could really freak out about the Pokémon-games, though slowly but steadily I stop giving a damn... :/
@BowtieShyGuy honestly one thing that surprised me is specifically how many pokemonsin that list(especially suince gen4 had meant returnees from generations that preceded it) would be covered by just gen4 remakes** and a theorical Let's Go Johto(something that could nix both missing gen1 AND gen2 pokemons). Which, if Gen4 remakes happens, would be oddly fitting considering that Johto was itself remade in gen4 as HeartGold and SoulSilver.
**(and such COULD still get their own wild areas DLC for anything else still missing to boot. After all, if remakes happens that possibility is not to be excluded considering it would further lengthen Gen8 and delay having to work on gen9)
@link3710 Honestly didn't know that USUM didn't have an actual national dex until your comment. In fact between the entirety of gen 7 I caught (as in threw a pokeball at) about 10-20 pokemon per game (I had all 4) because of how little I cared about the dex at that point. Didn't even bother catching any of the guardians. Hell I had to do nuzlockes just to keep my interest in USUM at all.
Dexit was the first time the national dex not being in the game was highlighted and actually renewed my interest in completing it since a) less pokemon so less for me to actually hunt down/transfer over and b) by the time I had finished the game I only had like 30ish pokemon left. Most of which I could either catch the evolutions, level them up or max raid for.
@Rensch Same.
Or those rumored gen4 remakes as that alone wouldn't just cover gen4 pokemons but also other gen1-2-3 pokemons one could catch in Sinnoh. If one just look at the Diamon/Pearl pokedexes, there's currently about 50 out of 150 pokemons found in Sinno still missing from Sword and Shield. Add a Let's Go Johto(or something if the like) title specifically patterned after Heartgold/SoulSilver(gen2 remakes released in gen2) to add further gen4 echoes and that would be a LOT of coverage for Pokemon Home on consoles.
So... there will be no more DLC for this game? If so, this really sucks for Pokémon fans. After all, the slogan for this franchises was always: "Gonna catch 'em all!" You can't do that if 1/5 of the Pokémon are missing.
That'll be next year's games' pokedex then
I've enjoyed the metagame a lot more this generation, so as long as they keep it fairly balanced going forward, they can keep doing dex cuts in the future for all I care.
That is... If Spheal is included every time.
I refuse to play until they add Sentret and Furret.
So they were able to put in 662 out of 896. Not that bad considering all the rumors and such before launch. Still it sucks for those left out.
I don't care. Something else to say.
@Ogbert Completing the 'Dex was an achievable goal in Gen 7/S&M/USUM. There was no National Dex in game.
@Dremp To address your post #30, that's perfectly fine if that's your approach to a new generation. But it's also fine if someone has a different way of playing Pokémon. For some it's the battling aspect. For others, it's the collecting of Pokémon.
To also address your point about starting fresh, the games usually force you to that anyways. So you have no choice but to go into a new gen fresh. It isn't until you complete the game when you have the ability to transfer Pokémon. And at the end of the day, I don't see why that shouldn't be an option, regardless on how useful the Pokémon are. You paid $40-$60 for the game. Try to get as much mileage out of it as you can.
I think it's lame that you can't transfer from Pokemon Go yet. Why is Pokemon Galar so special that it can't handle older generation Pokemon? If it is another cash grab idea from Nintendo I will be mad. Transfer your Pokemon for 10 dollars. Is this still a kid's game?
The big question will be what happens with the main series next? Do we see a remake in the Gen 8 engine? Or do we skip straight to a Gen 9. I think it's most likely that we see continued development within SwSh, with another expansion set for next year. Hopefully we also see some virtual console action. I could care less about remakes, but I'd love to be able to play some of the classics on Switch.
Thankfully most of my favourites made it even if a few didn't. I do wish all the Mythical's and Starters made it though.
Speculation here but the most absences seem to be sinnoh and johto pokemon, so could that be seen as possible evidence for lets go johto and DP remakes? Part of me kinda hopes they wait for gen 9 to remake sinnoh tho
@NoxAeturnus if anything they made an effort to have as little starters as possible
Most of my favourites were in the base game and 1 or 2 got put back in through Crown Tundra but my absolute favourite Feraligatr is not there. Maybe we’ll get an Australia one and he can get a big boy regional form
All I wanted is Meloetta. All mythicals of Gen V made it by her, even goddamn Jirachi made it... I don't get why they are selective with mythical pokemon of all things.
With the Sword/Shield soundtrack still nowhere to be seen, I'd guess in early 2021 a second expansion pass gets announced which over the course of the year finishes off the list.
@UmbreonsPapa I totally agree, that's why I said "that's what it means to me". I just don't see the point of transferring from one gen to the next. If you like collecting then it makes more sense to have them in a central database. If you like battling then why only stick to the same ones and not want to expand your horizons? Personally I like battling but I don't feel the need to constantly use the same mons. To each their own though.
Actually in Gen 7 you could transfer pokemon in before the first trial, and in Gen 8 I don't think there's anything stopping you from accessing pokemon Home before the first gym. Essentially as long as you're able to get to a pc you can access Pokemon Home and all your previous pokemon.
Wow still a lot of salty 'fans' crying over some cut pokemon.
The amount of Johto Pokemon absent from the game makes me a very sad onion.
I don’t care about the dex issue, if there is something to complain about it’s that the game focus is purely based on children with the sole exception being pvp. I want a hard mode way more than the national dex.
The fact that the Gen 2, 4, 5, and 6 starters have still been left behind still really bothers me. Seems incomplete to bring back only some of the starters.
@BowtieShyGuy They couldn't put "Gotta Catch Em All!" on the box, I remember being 12! I still loved Ruby, but even at that age, I was miffed they took aware features (day of the week, time based stuff) that were present in Gold'Silver.
I could see them potentially getting these Pokes in there. I don't really care though, I buy some games close to release, some I enjoy 10 years later. I've been enjoying Pokemon White a fair bit. Still haven't played Sword/Shield. Might some day.
and I think they'd be smart to at least patch in the Starters at some point. That would probably move some more copies of the games.
but just to note, I fell off on keeping up to date with Pokemon when Black/White came out. Haven't actually beaten a Pokemon game after that. I completed my Diamond Dex in highschool.
Now you're just fanning the flames.
By principle, I’m mad. But by reality, I don’t ever use a lot of those in this list.
I’ll stick with replaying (ultra) sun and moon; those are by far my favorite titles as of recent.
Ah I guess I’ll just pick up the let’s go games because most of my favourites are there
There’s a few I’m really sad didn’t make the cut (Greninja was a big one!) but it didn’t hurt the overall experience for me. Really enjoyed SwSh & I had fun with IoA too. Actually set my Switch down a few minutes ago after finally getting into the CT expansion. Looking forward to what the mainline Pokemon series brings us next.
Ampharos,Tropius and Torterra. Kind of annoying when you try to pick some out of the box favorites and this is what you get. Should've just stayed a Charizard fan. I would never be let down.
@Yosher this is an understandable viewpoint because it certainly seems simple from the outside, but it is a false one.
You can't just port 3DS stuff over. GF was honest when they said they remade all the models, they just remade them to be the same shape and animations. Light maps/textures are radically different.
Essentially, Switch and 3DS use different tools. Porting things over directly is like trying to drive a nail with a screwdriver. This is why backwards compatibility is difficult and not a given on new platforms.
Most AAA games will max out at 80-90 character models, usually with a lot of shared animations. The Pokemon franchise has around 1100 if including forms and gender differences, not including NPCs and player characters, and nearly all of them have unique animations.
If it were easy, you'd see mods with full pokedexes. But there really aren't any. You may have a case for gen 1 pokemon that were in LGE/LGP, but that's it. And even then, the light/texture maps look significantly different and would require a lot of work to hit the SwSh standard.
People should look up Brooks' Law as well as the effects of hiring on productivity to learn why even a large, rich company can't just add more people to get this stuff done.
@Ashunera84 If that's the case then how do you explain most of the Pokémon models sharing the exact same rigs between Sword/Shield and the 3DS games? Same bone count and placement, same amount of tris, exact same animations, and everything. If they remade all the models don't you think there would be some slight differences in the model structure? Even if only very, VERY slightly??
(See also https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjYZIf18c0k )
Remaking all the models one to one would seem like an absolute nightmare honestly. I'll give you the light maps/textures but even those could possibly just be updated using certain tools like how they did for the Super Mario 3D All-Stars game. And even if not, I do believe they have the resources available to make these available for all the Pokémon if they wanted to but they chose not to for some reason.
Pidgeot
Ampharos
Breloom
Slaking
Hariyama
Deoxys
Gliscor
Darkrai
Chesnaught
Greninja
Those are the only Pokemon I like that are still left out. Honestly not bad.
Zangooses omission is an absolute crime.
@Yosher that video did not confirm half the things you said, and did a number of times claim differences were not actually differences, which implies bias and an attempt to gain clicks and followers. He also only checked like 10 out of around 900 models.
I don't think using different specs would make any sense except where improvements needed to be made. Why redesign the pokemon? They were rebuilt to be the same with revisions on many of them.
3D All Stars is emulated. Cannot be compared at all, really.
Okay so I've never purchased this game and the fact that the entire Gen 4 starter Pokémon lineup is left out, means I never will.
You say all wrapped up... We'll see...
@RPGamer yeah I can buy that, but to leave out any of the starter Pokémon from any of the generations is just ridiculous.
The starter Pokémon are the face of that generation and to have the entire starters from gen 4 left out is just silly.
After waiting about a year, I pulled the trigger after Sword/Shield went on sale for $40.
And I was wrong; not about the game's faults, but rather about the assumption that those faults would ruin the experience.
It's difficult to verbalize, but as a longtime Pokemon fan, I can't help but forget about its many weaknesses during the moment-to-moment gameplay, because it's still distinctly Pokemon, and it's still so much fun.
I've never missed a generation since Yellow, and I almost missed out on the Galar region.
@Ulysses Honestly same. It has faults mind you. The story is hell of a ***** short thing but... the more I played it(finished second playthrough and completed the galardex for the first time, still need to complete the DLCdexes however)... I'm starting to think that's perhaps on purpose. And not even neccessarily in a bad way... just depending on what you focus on regarding the experience.
Not neccesarily in the sense of "creating a short game for a short game's sake" but rather, the more I look at other mechanics(XP candies, switching abilities easier than ever before even with the light grinding it requires... heck, switching to HIDDEN abilities as of the DLC and so on), the shortness might be with a specific goal in mind: getting players ready to head into multiplayers as soon as possible.
XP candies makes levelling easier than ever before. Making money is REALLY easy in the game, which makes effort-value boosting vitamins/etc even easier to get rather than grinding it out. Pokejobs also make passively grinding EV super easy. Abilities have never been as customizable than now as they can just be switched if desired. A pokemon has poor Inner Values on it's stats? You can Hyper Train it to get those maxed.
In short... it's never been easier than ever before to get players to start experimenting with competitive multiplayer teams... and the story is designed to get players ready to do so(while still getting enough of a base in mechanics/etc to warrant it) in record time.
Like, if only the story was short I'd consider it lazy. But the fact that it's as if grinding, everything... even getting a "competitive-ready" team(which many would use hacked dittos/etc to not go through the waste of time of breeding perfect IVs on every pokemons) has been put as if on speed dial makes me feel that there's a degree of "intent" on deciding to make it's story/etc a shorter deal with little to no "filler towns" and the like.
Which makes me wonder if in a way, if remakes happen, Pokemon Sword&Shield might not be basically the "speedrun/shiny hunter/competitive multiplayer" version of the game with potential remakes(if rumors/speculations are true) being planned for the meatier single player campaign experience.
I've noticed that out of the regional dexes of past games, Gen2(which is Gen1/2 combined in their entirety tbh) and Gen4 are some of those with the more gapping holes in their regional dexes. The kind of which could -easily- be plugged(at least, for what involves Pokemon Home's pokedex) by just a "Let's Go Johto" and Gen8 Diamond/Pearl remakes.
Get those two done and the little bit that remains to fill might as well be easily added to that remake as extra(like a Wild Area/etc) or DLC.
@Dremp I'm almost certain with Pokémon Bank and Home in regards to their respective generations, access to both didn't happen until about 4 or 5 months after the games were released. So you still were forced to start fresh. Yes, access to both is immediately available now. But I suspect anyone buying into Sword and Shield (and if for some reason, Gen 7) now are fairly new to Pokémon and aren't in the position of having a huge collection to figure out what you wanted to do with. So I guess I'm speaking from a veteran's point of view.
You're right about having your Pokémon collection in a central database being a nice option. Though Pokémon Home is light years ahead of Pokémon Bank in terms of functionality, I can understand, prior to this generation, why one would want their Pokémon all under one roof, so to speak. No need to go to a separate service and cumbersomely transfer in and out. The buy into Home was cheaper and I get the sense most people used it for transferring more so than storage. Again, Home is light years better in terms of functionality and features. But on the other hand, we are now talking about paying an additional $15 for a feature that was available in Sun and Moon and previous generations in game. As for why one would want to use Pokémon to battle that they've used in years past, I wish I had the answer for that as I don't participate in competitive battle. I suspect it's simply because it's a familiarity thing
I guess the point I'm trying to make is that I still don't necessarily understand why every Pokémon wasn't made available in this generation. Not even talking about the National Dex aspect of it. Again, the National Dex wasn't in game in either SM or USUM. I bought Pokémon Shield. I had some enjoyment from it, but wasn't entirely happy with the end result. Dexit was a disappointment, but obviously not a deal breaker seeing as, again, I bought one of the games and the DLC. Even after coming to accept it, I'm still not entirely sure why it happened.
Oh well, my favorite gen's (V) starters didn't get in. Still enjoyed/enjoying this game along with the dlc. If something like gen 9 comes out next year, I probably won't be in any rush to get it.
@kenyowa
90 dollars? do you have to get both games?
No Ampharos? Hard pass xD
@TheGameChallenger No, you'd need to get 1. The game and 2. The DLC - Game costs $60 (and unfortunately really doesn't get discounted, even when used), and the expansions cost $30 altogether.
RIP, Never forget
literally only the last generation ones are all unfamiliar to me. likely cuz i skipped it lol. the previous gen lists i wont miss, as im strictly in it for the new pokes only. as the discovery is part of the enjoyment for me. old pokes are washed up and reused way too much.
The most profitable media franchise in the world, everyone. Higher than Star Wars, Mickey Mouse, and Hello Kitty, even. Yet they can't be bothered to include basic stuff from previous games.
But what they CAN do is charge you for Pokemon Bank, Pokemon Home, NSO, AND SW/SH DLC on top of charging you for trades between Home and Go.
This franchise is such a joke now.
My second favorite Pokemon, Greninja, is still unavailable
to be honest, I really don't care. I play the new Generations for the new Pokemon, and the DLC is fun, so it's not the end of the world to me
A moment of silence for my boys Dodrio, Muk, Typhlosion, Ampharos, Forretress, Smeargle, Hariyama, Deoxys, Infernape, Honchkrow, Darkrai, Arceus, Snivy, Emboar, Zebstrika, Eelektross, Delphox and Greninja.
The problem with this, is that people that have a living dex (with shinies and whatnot) and made the mistake to put them all in Home, then they are stuck in there without any way to bringing them out if you want to stop your subscription. You are forced to keep paying if you want to have them since, AFAIK, you can't transfer pokemon from home back to bank and then move them to Gen VII. TPC made a ransomware out of Pokemon Home.
Is it bad that I'm excited that Shinx and its evolved forms got it through the DLC?
I'm happy that Shinx made it, but what about all the other 'mon tho? Like I love the fact that I can get my Luxray back, but its a slap in the face when you can't have the rest of the 'mon.
Pokemon sucks nowadays. I'll wait for them to make a great game like they used to. I'll be waiting a while, me thinks.
@UmbreonsPapa Nah there was over double the amount in S&M. Plus with the wild area it just felt like something I could do without having to hardcore dedicate all my free time, I was able to do it at a pace I actually enjoyed
@UmbreonsPapa Makes sense. I was talking from a "my favourite pokemon isn't in the game so I'm not going to play it until they bring it back" position in which case that would be veterans of the game wanting to play with pokemon they've transferred over, besides the point you raise actually makes it more silly that people are straight up refusing to play the game because their favourites aren't in it. Pokemon have done this before where they haven't made all pokemon available and then add them later.
100% agree with this, Home is good but the price is too much. I guess though they're trying to pay for new servers + support. I work in IT and the price of servers adds up really quickly. Still Pokemon company is rich enough to afford it so either they have a bunch of hidden costs or just lots of greed. The issue with the whole transferring pokemon from one gen to the next with battling is that some pokemon lose the ability to learn certain moves even as egg moves, so when you have competitions where a pokemon needs to have been caught/bred in that region they lose access to those moves soooo what's the point? Plus all it does is ruin the meta because everyone will use the same 6 pokemon over and over and over. I played a bit more competetive in gen 6 and the number of Landorus/Heatran I went up against was just ridiculous. I've mentioned it before on this site but I believe the best thing the pokemon company can do is make the gens moving forward have region exclusive pokemon available only and then have central databases like Home for collection/living dex and some sort of Stadium title that uses pokemon from Home to battle (and only battle).
I get that. I'm happy it happened, but I understand the lack of closure. I feel the same way. Although I'm glad they cut pokemon and people actually got to complete the game, Pokemon did not explain their reasons. Sad thing is if they had provided a valid reason for dexit I think more people would have accepted it. I do not however agree with the whole "pokemon sucks because I can't use [insert pokemon name here] now"
I'm surprised not every started made the cut. I doubt many people are crying for stuff like Poochyena or Patrat, but you'd think putting all the starters in would be a priority, right after legenadaries.
Not gonna lie, seeing Spinda getting cut out hurt me right in the kokoro since I really love Spinda a lot... but I'll live.
-goes back to playing Sword version-
Well they have to think of the risks of what other pokemon can do..
No Cyndaquil, No sale. Literally the only pokemon I care about
@Ogbert I guess I'm not following exactly what you mean. Are you saying the Alola Pokedex was double the amount of Pokemon in the Galar Dex? I'm pretty sure that is not the case. The Alola Pokedex was only 400+ Pokemon. Maybe even less than that for Sun and Moon originally and probably just 400 for Ultra Sun and Moon. Again, you can transfer every last Pokemon into the game. And some Pokemon not a part of the regional dex were catchable through the Island Scanner. But there was no National Pokedex. It was offloaded to Pokemon Bank
@UmbreonsPapa aye no national dex but there was still 800 odd available, and the fact that a bunch of them had to be transferred in or didn’t add to your dex just made the task even more obtuse.
SwSh had 400, that was it. And most of the old ones were pooled into a great big area specifically just for catching them. I know they’ve since added more but at launch it was clear and simple and the game was balanced in such a way that just playing the game regularly got me a significant portion of the way to catching them all. It felt achievable by simply playing the game like no previous iteration has.
Hey guys, I have a great idea for a future franchise of pokemon. I've already titled it "Pokemon Dream world" in this, there's a world where all the gym leaders, elite four members, champions and all the favourites get to visit this island for an entertaining showdown. After you've conquered this quest the villains led by Giovanni waged and all out pokemon war after discovering the island and the many rear pokemon's on it. I have tons more to add with side quest and so on. This could easy be the best pokemon game ever. I just don't know how to get my ideas across. Can anyone help.
@Yosher Right? Loved the Game boy games and X&Y was sooo good but man, SW/SH along with the DLC... not digging it.
It feels kinda empty and uninspiring, especially the main campaign. As for the DLC, the trailers didn't work on me.
I bought the base game at launch but that is perhaps the last entry for me if they keep doing the same thing.
Shame.
i’m going to say it………..i hope this generation is forgotten. in all honesty i liked these games AND realized that they weren’t perfect and that game freak needed to do a better job, but (for me at least) i still had fun with them and could see what they were trying to do with these games but thats not the issue, the issue comes from the community. now i’m going to say this once, you can have your opinions and thats fine, if you liked the game thats your opinion and if you didn’t like the game that is also your opinion. my problem with the community is that a lot of people took things way too far. what do i mean? look at the national-dex, the game hasn’t been out for a full year yet and people are still complaining about it. when the dlc’s were announced to have returning pokemon (and a lot of fan favorites might i say) people were frustrated with the price of for both of them. and to be honest, even i wasn’t happy with that. but then they announced that if you didn’t have the dlc’s you could trade with someone that did have those pokemon from them or you could use pokemon home. i thought people would take it with atlas a somewhat open mind, but nope, they did what they have been doing since release, complain. what i’m saying is that when i’m not playing the games and i try to talk to someone about them all the do is complain about the littles things in the game. all in all i just haven’t had any fun with this generation and that was something i was looking forward to, having fun i mean isn’t that the reason we play video games? to have fun while we play them with our friends or other people. i know i know i might be sounding stupid and most people reading are probably thinking i sound like a kid and i agree with that, but i just wanted to say how i felt about this generation as a whole.
I'd imagine Game Freak probably has a major free content update towards the future, filling in the Pokemon that are currently missing from the Pokedex. Just because the DLC season is finished, it doesn't mean they don't have anything left planned for Sword and Shield.
@NathanTheAsian
I feel like they will support this game for a long while
Nope. My favorite is Cyndaquil :v
@Ogbert If you can’t complete the Dex then that sounds like a you problem. Either don’t play Pokémon because it’s apparently to hard to complete a game or move on.
@Moonlessky of course they could but they won’t because Game Freak is lazy.
@Ashunera84 Sorry but your wrong, same models. It’s be proven by hackers digging in the game files before. Game Freak is just lazy, or whatever the hell is going on at Game Freak.
@link_hatchet Well I did move on. That was the whole point I was making. You seemed to have missed it in your speedy bid to act confrontational and abrasive over the internet.
It wasn't fun and didn't feel achievable without jumping through many hoops. Not 'too hard', just not fun. There is a difference. For example, moving 1,000 sheets of paper individually from one table to another 2 feet away is not hard, but it isn't fun.
That was all solved for me with SwSh (which had other issues elsewhere there's no denying), so I hope they continue with that aspect of it so that I don't feel inclined to move on and I enjoy their future entries as much as I did this one.
Well, my favorite pokemon, Incineroar, did make it in! It sucks for the people that their pokemon didn't make it in, but still, pokemon introduced VGC in the game the friendliest possible. By no means it's my favorite pokemon game, but it still has it's pros.
I don't know. Didn't buy it.
A lot of my favorites and are in and a lot of my favorites were left out. I look at it as a compromise. I'm still having fun with the game when I focus on the positive things. I'm not being a baby about some of them missing because I can accept change like an adult. This game is the best for making the pokemon the way that you want and it's even easier to get them shiny. I still have fun playing with my shiny Tyrantrum, shiny Hawlucha, shiny Bisharp, and that is just to name a few. You could also fix old shinies from before. These games are not perfect but I'm not going to add to the toxicity in the fanbase.
@link_hatchet hackers didn't "prove" a damn thing.
Still too many older gen Pokémon in there - should have expanded the number Gen8s and cut every other gen from the game
@Dizzard add me
@colmtheperson add me
Looking for people to do trades with and raids please add & help SW-2364-3202-7534S
Nope! Buizel still isn't available unfortunately
@Zuljaras you have good taste, it's GF with the faults buddy
