We weren't sure what to make of ARMS when it was first revealed, but Nintendo's bold new IP turned out to be a pleasant surprise and every bit as colourful as Splatoon. The game makes great use of Joy-Con motion controls to let the player use their stretchy weaponised arms to punch, thump and knock-out opponents.
However what if ARMS wasn't really a new IP, but it was secretly developed and never released for the Game Boy Advance? Twitter user bomb998 imagines such a scenario in this pixel art which shows how ARMS might look in 16-bit style:
We have to say we love the mock-up of the bright yellow ARMS style GBA console and the gameplay would likely work quite well in this Punch-out!! style too. The character select screen is a delight too, we almost wish this was real.

WANT
Can someone make this a fan game!?
So cool! Love the yellow!
That yellow GBA looks really good, great job!
Wow That's really good
Oh my god, I wish this was reaaaaal.
Pretty cool.
Why can't Nintendo think of cool concepts like this?...
This looks awesome, almost like Arms for GBA is a reality in an alternate timeline
@Cartune Well they did come up with the game
I love the pixelart!
That's awesomw
Wow !
Imagine that GBA version will be a VC e-shop.
Wooo
But wasn't GBA technically 32-bit?
Don't forget the screen is not as bright and colourful as these pics suggest. Nice though
@OorWullie Lol I mean... like, they coulda added this after a 100% completion, think of how cool that would've been!
Ribbon Gril is best character!
Last time there was a notable '16-bit reimagining' fan project, some people wanted its creator burned at the stake. It's nice to see this one proving a little less divisive (not that it's a fully fledged project by any stretch). Still looks fab though.
I'd play this in a heartbeat
Min Min for the Win Win
Really neat. Love demake ideas that aren't just 8-bit alternatives (believe I saw a top-down Monster Hunter mock up a while back).
Seems like an awesome idea but like all things Nintendo fan made, it'll probably never happen as ARMS is a Nintendo property.
This is brilliant!!
Ribbon GRIL must be the new character
I love this!!!!
I'm having flashbacks of Wade Hixton's Counter Punch.
I was really hoping for cross connectivity between the Wii U and the 3DS I was hoping Nintendo would do little extras like this for some of their games. Imagine an unlockable download for a Bayonetta side-scroller even if it was only a couple of levels. Would have been awesome
WOAH! Now that's what I'm talking about.
That looks really cool! I totally would have bought it on GBA back in the day. That was a great system. I bought my first GBA in Singapore about 6 months before it came out in the states. I was blown away after a decade and a half of gameboy.
Much better.
Love this art-style; 16-bit graphics are the best.
Ha. Very nice.
I love the 8 bit rendition of the ARMS jingle either you guys or another site put up. This GBA cart would also be a winner!!
Look at Ribbon Girl's name! It says Ribbon Gril lol.
I love stuff like this looks great!
This just really makes me want to get a bunch of GBA games for switch on VC
Nice job! I still really like the GBA form factor, very comfortable and robust.
Nice.
