The UK top 40 doesn't always bring good news for Nintendo, but this week seems particularly disappointing. Battlefield 1 seized top spot as a major release on PS4 and Xbox One, while Nintendo titles struggled to make the lower reaches of the list.
Only two Nintendo exclusives actually made it into the all-format top 40 this week, in both cases evergreen 3DS releases. Tomodachi Life returned in 38th place, while New Super Mario Bros. 2 was one place further back in 39th.
Unfortunately Rhythm Paradise Megamix missed the top 40 completely, which is a pity as it's a rather enjoyable game at a budget retail price (£24.99) in the UK. That said, a GAME store we visited only had one copy, and it was mixed in with older releases rather than being prominently displayed. A number of factors are likely to blame, but it only managed 6th place in the 3DS-only chart, which isn't a good result by any stretch of the imagination.
Paper Mario: Color Splash continued its rapid descent to leave the overall top 40, though it's still the best-selling Wii U game ahead of Minecraft: Wii U Edition.
An uneventful week for Nintendo in the UK, in any case, as we await Pokémon Sun and Moon as potential chart-toppers in November.

I'm not surprised to be honest. It's a shame, though.
Who are all these people buying Tomodachi Life? lol...
The UK charts, from a Nintendo perspective, always makes for grim reading.
I personally cannot foresee the Switch faring any better (than this), especially in the long term.
probably coz they can't play it on the switch.
@Moon Probably the same people buying Miitomo.
Is there any reason for the UK to even cover new Wii U releases anymore? Just Dance this week or next, then maybe Yooka-Laylee in 5 or 6 months if the UK even gets it on disc, then Zelda at some point, but I think that's it. Not really enough reason to keep torturing ourselves week in and week out. Might as well check new N64 and GameCube releases while we're at it. Can't we just have a proper wake and move on.
The only way this game would sell well in the U.K. is if the character on the box was dressed in sportswear and it was available to buy in Sports Direct
Aww I suppose the series was always going to be niche in the west, but to not get a top 40 showing is so sad and undeserved.
I tried to by Rhythm Paradise at retail (so we can all share the game, rather than download to 1 system) but not a single store I went in to carried stock. Had a similar issue with Mario Party 3DS. Retail seems to have given up on all but the biggest 3DS releases.
I bought the one copy of Rhythm Paradise in my local GAME It deserves better, it's the most fun I've had in a while.
I downloaded it from the eShop personally, out of sheer laziness - don't think those figures are counted, are they? Anyway, it's good fun, although I've seen a lot of it before.
@rjejr lol pretty much. I wonder if Zelda U will chart? Time will tell...
@ImDiggerDan You're not wrong... my local GAME didn't stock Federation Force at all... and had only 1 copy of Dragon Quest 7. It's hard being a Nintendo fan in the UK!
Meh... If any franchise needs more attention, it's Rhythm Paradise. It's really a shame, it's legitimately one of my favorite game franchises ever.
My local Game didn't sell it. Big shame as it's a great game and a ton of fun in multiplayer but not surprising especially going up against Battlefield. Next no.1 spot will probably be pokemon sun and moon.
I am having SO much fun with Rhythm WhateverItsCalled.
Ordered mine from Amazon, months ago, but completely forgot about it until I got the "your order has been dispatched" message!
The game is HUGE!! And thank Munkies it has the Japanese switch!!
My local Electrinic Store had 3 Copys of Rhythm Paradise Megamix, so my best Friend and i each bought one of them.
This Franchise deserves much more attention, it's pure Fun.
Sounds like GAME is and has been biased against Nintendo for awhile. Hard to play fair when the deck is stacked against you.
Brutal for Paper Mario: ColoUr Splash. 2 weeks in the charts is nothing. There are games there that are years old.
It came too late, the hype has fizzled out.
I haven't bought paper mario color splash or rhythm paradise megamix... but I will do soon!
aye UK folks.why is you guy's game called rhythm paradise instead of rhythm heaven like here in america? does nintendo think that the word heaven offends you?
@ya_boy_six Probably...
What a shame! Same for mario party star rush too. An amazing game which isn't in any stores in UK at all!
What a waste as for me it's 10/10
@ya_boy_six Hey, I don't think that it is a matter of offense, simply that the word paradise is way closer to the french word "paradis" or the latin word "paradisus" than heaven is, and as the words means the same, it should be more appealing and understandable to the local audience, even to the non-english speaking
Btw, I'm dying to buy the game but it is not yet released in Belgium ! (official release here is 10/27!)
I'm not surprised it's done as poorly as it has. I checked in Game, HMV, Toys R Us and Argos in Southampton City Centre and none of these stores had even received a copy to sell.
It's hardly surprising the game has sold poorly when it's not available to buy! I ended up having to then go and order a copy online.
I think it's funny your sub-header implies the 3DS needs saving.
I honestly did not quite enjoy rhythm paradise on Wii - if you got stuck in a stage, you got stuck and could not advance. The gameplay is also rather simple. So I did not buy Megamix.
I bought this from the eshop because I figured it was the type of game that I'm more likely to play for a quick 5 minutes, if it's already there on my system, rather than having to go and switch cartridges. Plus the fact that Amazon were selling it for £29.99 so I could get it five quid cheaper from the e-shop, plus pick up some gold coins in the hope that Nintendo ever decide to stick something decent up on My Nintendo...
It's a fun game that brings a smile to my face!
@GreatPlayer If you can't get past the tutorial for a level, a guide for when to press the buttons appears on the touchscreen, which helps you get the rhythm. Plus I think I read somewhere that if you fail to pass a level three times, you get the option to bypass it in exchange for coins (which you earn from clearing levels).
As some may have already said, those NSMB 2 and Tamadotchi life sales are almost entirely down to 2ds bundles that have been on sale. I don't in any way try to put a positive spin on Nintendo sales for the next 5 months. It's Pokemon and then the Switch
everything else outside of that will have little to no impact on sales......Nes classic aside. Good news is the switch has got a lot of love in the press and around the Web so should change the playing field for Nintendo in March
That's a shame as its an rather enjoyable game with a fair amount of content, a steal at £25.
Not as addictive & engrossing as the other rhythm games on the system imo (Hatsune Miku, Rhythm Thief, Curtain Call) but still great to have another on the 3ds.
I went into two Game stores in my local high street and they didn't have a single copy. Didn't have it in Argos and they didn't have any copies in Smyths toystore either : (
I'll probably just order a copy online from Nintendo UK. I really enjoyed the demo despite being pretty short.
Ahh well, the NES Mini's only a couple of weeks to go and Pokemon's sure to dominate shortly after even with the Go train losing some steam (Might be a good time to add Johto Pokemon Nintendo, hinthint. )
@Moon "I wonder if Zelda U will chart?"
I don't know if it will chart or not, too many unknown variables, mostly NS price and will they pack it in w/ the system, I just wanted to commend you for your use of Zelda U.
Nintendo is pretty dead in the UK, so I'm not surprised
These sales just goes to show how badly Nintendo is doing in the UK compared to the rest of Europe. A game like Yokai Watch went pretty much under everyone's radar in the UK, while it has remained one of the Top 10-15 best selling games every week since its launch (on the individual formats charts) in many other European territories (France, Italy, Spain, Germany...).
At least NSMB2 and Tomodachi life are selling well thanks to 2DS bundles.
@westman98 It'd be honestly interesting to see the UK numbers. I think the UK is very trend heavy. Like if a game isn't "The game everyone is playing" a title will slide out of the charts at breakneck speed, if it is then it will hang in the charts for months if not years.
The gap between the highest selling and the lowest selling titles is probably biggest in the UK. It's like there's no room for niche games in the UK market.
@Dr_Lugae "The gap between the highest selling and the lowest selling titles is probably biggest in the UK."
Pretty much lol.
The best selling game in the UK this year thus far is FIFA 17, with a whopping ~1.5 million copies sold in roughly one month. The second best selling game in the UK thus far is Tom Clancy's The Division, with under 500,000 copies sold. The disparity between football/soccer and everything else is insane.
A pity. Its a great game.
Like many others on this site, I live in the UK (Cambridge), and I still maintain that a lot of Nintendo's low sales figures here are due to the British having a very sheep like mentality, and will only like something if it is cool to like it. Otherwise it's like they are almost embarrassed to say they enjoy Nintendo, or a certain hobby of sorts for example, and wouldn't even comprehend trying something different. I'd LOVE it of one of my friends picked up a Wii U because they wanted Mario Kart 8 for example, but no, they will get a PS4 because they're the best selling console and then never even play on the darn thing. It's like they just want to keep up with the Jones'
