Samus speaks up in her most explosive adventure yet
Metroid: Other M is a lot of things. It's the second translation of the series into 3D, one that ditches the first-person mould that the Metroid Prime trilogy used to cast such acclaimed titles in favour of a new hybrid of 2D and 3D gameplay. It's a game whose co-developer, Team Ninja, both...

Feature Samus' Suits, Ranked - Every Metroid Box Art Suit Design, From Worst To Best
"Honey, where's my super suit?"
Metroid's protagonist, Samus Aran, has a rather unique privilege in the world of Nintendo. Unlike characters like Mario, Link, and Kirby, all of whom retain the same general look across their respective franchises (okay, Link is a little more varied than the other two, but still), Samus' basic design can be altered...
Feature 6 Things We'd Love To See In Metroid Prime 4
It's been four years since development was restarted
This week — today, in fact — marks an astonishing four years since the announcement that work on Metroid Prime 4 had been restarted from scratch and shifted over to original developer Retro Studios. We all remember the day when Shinya Takahashi, Senior Managing Executive Officer at Nintendo,...
News Reggie Thought Metroid: Other M Would Be A 'Defining Moment' For The Franchise
"It really didn’t touch the player the way we hoped it would"
Metroid: Other M hasn't has the smoothest of rides since it launched for the Wii back in 2010. Although widely praised for its combat and visuals, heavy criticism was given for Samus's characterisation and the overall narrative. Although the game has earned some positive reprisals from...

Another M
Editor's note: This article discusses an audio-based character moment near the end of Metroid Dread. If you're sensitive to spoilers, you may want to finish the game and come back to this article later... For 15 years, Metroid Dread was just a rumor. Now, it’s real, it’s been out for over a month, and it’s fantastic. Samus Aran’s...
Random Forget Dread, It's All About Metroid: Other M On Twitter Right Now
Fans are "defending" the Wii entry for all sorts of reasons
Metroid Dread might have just been released for the Nintendo Switch (and it's outstanding by the way), but over on social media, the conversation is all about Team Ninja's 2010 Wii title, Metroid: Other M. While it was mostly well-received back then, as time went on it's fallen out of...

Random One Metroid Fan Has Fixed Other M For All Time
"Any objections, Lady?"
Out of all of Samus Aran's amazing adventures, the Wii exclusive Metroid: Other M has to rank as the most divisive. Much of the fan displeasure stems from the characterisation of Samus as a petulant soldier who veers from showcasing strong-willed, petulant behaviour to being crippled by anxiety. Given that Samus had...
Feature Please Understand: Unpacking Nintendo's Vision For Metroid Prime 4
Is Metroid finally on the right track after the Federation Farce?
Nintendo’s announcement that Metroid Prime 4 was effectively being taken back to the drawing board wasn’t exactly the January surprise fans were hoping for; the sizeable delay to this much-anticipated sequel was an understandable downer for fans. Despite disappointment, the video...

First Impressions Metroid: Other M
Hit me baby, one more time
As stunning as Retro Studios' Metroid Prime Trilogy undoubtedly is, we still fondly remember Samus Aran's formative years, and particularly the seminal Super Metroid. It seems we're not the only ones fond of this piece of the bounty hunter's history however, as Team Ninja and Tecmo's take on Nintendo's sci-fi franchise...
About The Game
For decades, Samus Aran has been known as one of the first female protagonists in video games, and one of the most enigmatic. Having traded her haunted past for the solitary life of a bounty hunter, Samus™ finally tells her own tale in this revealing, personal story of her failings, her flaws and ultimately her motivation.
Metroid: Other M is an unprecedented collaboration that blends the slick, action-packed production of the world-renowned Team Ninja development team with the game design talents of the creators of the original Metroid. Metroid: Other M is a dramatic new direction for a legendary franchise and a bold new blend between cinematics, storytelling and the best in interactive entertainment.
FEATURES:
-Metroid: Other M takes the best elements of 1st-person and 3rd-person gaming to create a seamless blend between gameplay, story-telling and dynamic cinematography, that feels like a movie the player can control. Players hold the Wii Remote™ controller sideways while navigating and battling in 3rd-person. However, at any moment, players can switch immediately to Wii Remote pointer controls to examine and explore the environments in 1st-person perspective.
-Metroid fans know more about Samus' suits and weapons than they do about what drives her. That's about to change. The story begins immediately following the events of Super Metroid, when a baby Metroid gave its life to protect Samus. With voice acting and a rich story, players learn the engaging backstory of Samus as she weaves through an action-packed adventure aboard the Bottle Ship, a decommissioned space facility. As she hurtles into this new adventure, Samus will encounter her first mentor and Commanding Officer of the Galactic Federation, Adam Malkovich.
-The development of Metroid: Other M is an exciting collaboration between Nintendo's Yoshio Sakamoto and Team Ninja. Sakamoto was the director of Super Metroid in 1994. Team Ninja is the renowned action developer of Ninja Gaiden. Metroid: Other M pairs Sakamoto's expert level design and exploratory focus of the classic Metroid series with Team Ninja's signature stylish, no-holds-barred action.

I really really want this
2010 seems so far away!
Do want.
Now.
wow...u have got to be kidding me, they arent doing multiplayer for this either...wtf....fps or fpsa w/e u call them are really epic failing for me now, conduit, red steel, now this....urrrgh someone give me a good local multiplayer now!
If Samus is going to talk in this, I hope they at least keep her dialogue minimal (Like Clint Eastwood, more Snake Plisskin than Solid Snake).
One of the reasons I think the silent protagonist is so effective in videogames is because the less you KNOW about a character, the easier it is to BECOME the character, and the less personality they have, the more of your own you can project on to them. Whether expressing yourself out loud or just in thought, it can be far more involving and satisfying than watching your character think, speak and act for you in cutscenes.
When playing a game with NPC's we expect them to guide us and basically tell us what to do through their dialogue, but there's little more annoying than being told what to do by OUR character (with the exception of Guybrush Threepwood's common sense based refusals).
To borrow and drastically alter a quote from Batman Begins: It should not be a script, but the player that defines a videogame character.
This is what makes Link one of the greatest characters in videogames, along with his simple look and humble roots that makes the 'zero to hero' journey all the more satisfying (and Little Mac too!).
What the heck?
Dead or alive 3+Zero Mission+Corruption=?!?!?!?!?!??!
Interesting, though.
"Remember me?"
So want....so want bad....
HoLy CrAp !!!! XD
I wonder how this will compare to the metroid prime series. I definitely will want this!
2010 needs to hurry up and get here already...
I am pumped up for 2010 because of the great games coming like other m, galaxy 2 and zelda wii
Y'know, a great Youtube parody would be just the scene where Adam Malkovich(Samus mention him as her old Co in Fusion) asks Samus his line of, "Any questions, lady?", & Samus would respond, "Remember me?". The sound clips are already in the trailer, just needs editing...
Do want.
NOW
Wait a minute... does Samus have a facial mole? Check the screenshot close up of her face.
Haha, awesome.
This game looks so cool. Awesome graphics are on of the most important things. The other is the story line and the actual game play.
I love what there doing to the game at first I wanted it at first-person mode but there is third person mode too! Man I have to get a lot of money too get that game at game stop.
I think the girl at the end of the June 3rd video is Samus' daughter, since she is "very important." And all
According to chronologic timeline, this game is the second most recent game in the Metroid series, with Metroid Fusion being the first. I hope Nintendo will continue the Metroid story after Fusion after Other M is released.
yes, must want.... good thing there not doing a 1st person game again, they've kinda exausted wat they could do with it
Just pre-ordered Metroid: Other M yesterday. I think I'm getting artwork cards as a bonus. Lame, but not if there's Zero-Suit Samus...
this game looks grate and the best part is that the past of samus is so clouded so an origins story is just what the doctor ordered
This is going to be the wii's best game of the year along with Super Mario Galaxy 2. So far this is seeming like an under-rated game with lots of people needlessly complaining and twisting information about the game to make it seem worse than it really is. The same thing happened with the Prime series in 2002 and those 3 games are some of the best the Gamecube/Wii have to offer. This new take on the series will continue the Metroid greatness of both the Prime games and the older, more traditional Metroid games. August 31st can't come soon enough.
The new trailer it's... AMAZING!!!!
http://bit.ly/9Rs6eY
Curiouser and Curiouser.....
When's the review will be going up?
Um probably 31st of August, after it is released in the States and people have had a decent play. So probably about 12 hours from when I post this.
I'm getting this today!! XD
9/10 is exactly what I think! Team Ninja and Nintendo make a great team when It comes to Metroid. Totally worth the wait.
I bought this three years later for 10 dollars.
I loathe this game. It literally takes every that makes a Metroid game amazing and throws it in a fire.
