Topic: My Nintendo faith is really waivering for the first time. Is it just me?

I guess I had just expected more life out of things like the advantage of having an the IR pointer and the nunchuk built into one control. This seemed like legions above anything a couple control sticks could offer for first person adventures and and shooters, too.
But in the end no one spent the time to really produce much really deep creative, story driven adventures with it, and now the Wii is short on life. Zelda, Metroid Prime, and then it sounds like the conduit tried but turned out to be a letdown in the single player mode.
it seems like 3rd parties just couldn't accept a simpler graphical interface in favor of just making some Crazy LONG, winding adventure with more interactive controls (things to punch, shoot, open, close, even running in place with motion detection for escape). I thought, like the DS, after a year or two they'd get some great ideas and then start churning out some really amazing, creative adventures, and it just never really happened (at least not to a large extent that I thought it would).

To be quite honest, I've noticed that I myself have been losing interest in gaming. I still am of the belief that this is one of the best generation of gaming ever, I just feel that me entering a field that is related to making video games is just not that optimal anymore and the PS3 has not successfully engaged my interested in it.

Might be a good idea for me to take a break from it and focus on other form of entertainment, like writing fanfictions and debating with others.

I only really liked 5 games on the ps3 compared to the many more on the WII, I would rather have my WII than my PS3, byt that's just me.

I can understand some of the frustration you showed on the previous posts Ren. It's very sad to see that in the last 6 months we've got just half a decent game. It's true that the enthusiasm of the glory days is gone, but let's be fair, the quality of Nintendo's products hasn't dropped an inch. So, who is to blame?

As Yu Suzuki once said, people are a weird beast. Give them a choice between a game where they can choose 10 cars and another where they can choose 10.000 cars and they will always go for the second, no matter what. People have very ephemeral standards. Nowdays everybody wants HD, Blue Ray, giant online modes. All the differences you mentioned seem to be on the presentation site: graphics, press hype, mass enthusiasm etc.

Yeah, everybody's talking about Portal 2 nowdays. Give it a month and it will be forgotten and shadowed by another game that looks slightly better but gives you the exact same experience. These games get old in a matter of weeks. They have no heart. People who owned a Dreamcast are still waiting for Shenmue 3, but no one cares for the next Bayonetta, GTA, Red Dead Redemption, Call of Duty etc.

Top-10 games I played in 2017: The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (WiiU) - Rogue Legacy (PS3) - Fallout 3 (PS3) - Red Dead Redemption (PS3) - Guns of Boom (MP) - Sky Force Reloaded (MP) - ...

My faith in Nintendo isn't waning at all. There are things I don't like about the Wii, such as it's being non-HD "last generation" hardware(excluding the motion controls of course), but there also things I love about it. The big one being the addition of Virtual Console. I had been waiting for something like that for many years as I still prefer retro 16-bit and 8-bit games to the majority of the new stuff. I also think the system has more than enough quality NEW software, at least enough to satisfy me. Yeah, there's A LOT of shovelware on the system, but there's plenty of good and even great games too. Sin & Punishment 2 is just as good as any of the really good "hardcore" games on the 360 and PS3 and you can barely even tell the graphics aren't HD. They're simply stunning and really show off what the Wii hardware can still do. 100% backwards compatibility with the Gamecube is also a huge plus and more recently the addition of Netflix is fantastic as well. Even though it can't stream HD content, it works beautifully and the app itself and it's interface are very well designed. Just as good as any other Netflix app out there and unlike some of the other ones, it doesn't even suffer from the 100 episode limit on TV series. Overall, I think it's a better system than the N64 or Gamecube and I loved those as well. Still, nothing will touch the greatness that was the SNES IMO. That was Nintendo's high point. I don't think they'll ever be able recreate the magic of that console again. I'll never forget the first time playing games like Super Mario World, F-Zero, Super Castlevania 4, Contra 3, Star Fox, Donkey Kong Country and so on and so on. So many great games. It was an amazing experience in my childhood. The SNES was magical to me. I almost get teary eyed thinking about how great that system was and STILL IS.

Very true. Thanks for the context. Truthfully, I actually know very little about the HD games I mentioned, if any of them, and I do put most of my faith in gameplay and story over graphics and shock value. I just grabbed some names and images that I've seen thrown around that look pretty impressive.
I still favor the powerfull options that the Wii does offer, I just wish 3rd parties had done more with the potential of the new controls before giving in and now that the next iteration is in waiting it looks like the prospects for great creative leaps on the Wii are even more crippled.
One reason I like this site is because of the WW emphasis (hence it's roots). I think the Wii Ware encouraged some awesome new creative stuff that I haven't seen in a long time, and a nice new 'smaller format'. I just wish it had happened on a larger scale for the disc releases. After Zelda and Okami, there wasn't much more like them in terms of longer meaty experiences that also made use of the unique controls. Stuff like Zack and Wiki, too.
Anyway, I know, I'm just complaining. I just have less time than I used to to sift through all the games to find some of the good stuff that I probably missed. I still need to get to sin/ pun 2, and I haven't tried monster hunter or goldeneye yet either. Need a few free days.

My "faith" in Nintendo waverred years ago, though not for some percieved lack of creativity - To me, that's asking for too much. Just because they have a fancy new controller doesn't mean Developers have the tools to reinvent the wheel.

No, in my case the simple fact of the matter is that Nintendo stopped making games that appealled to me, so I turned the other companies who were making games that caterred to my tastes. Now I have an Xbox 360 and plan on getting a PS3 ASAP. While I too have been disappointed in HD Disc games, XBLA has been a different matter all together. Really, If you get an HD system, make sure to check out the download section - if you ask me, the downloadable front is where all this generation's creativity is being pooled. Really, it's given me more than a fair share of great games, including some of the best games I've ever played. It's not to be missed.

See? You're missing the cream of Wii's library. These three games can rival most of the games released for the other two consoles. My advice is, try to get the best off your Wii now...there's a lot more games worth playing (and loving) if you look around.

ps. last Sunday I went to see my cousin and brought my Wii. He had a PS3 with an awful lot of games, so we had a choice. Result: we spent something like 12 hours playing NBA Jam, Sin & Pun 2 and RE:DC co-op mode and we didn't even plug the PS3 for a minute.

I've always wanted an Xbox 360, but lack of funds and the drive to buy a console that is FPS hardened knocks me away every time. Also, with an outdated controller, sue me I hate dual analog controls, I just can't see myself having to learn a whole new control system when waggle and pointing just feels easier to play around with and a whole lot more fun.

Nintendo might not have the graphics or the big ended games that pepper the PS360. But what Nintendo have is a massive library that is beaming with fun titles, creative controls and simply amazing game ideas that I find the PS360 market sort of lack. And also, most PS360 games arrive on the PC anyway, unless they're exclusive titles for the console, so really I don't see the point in buying a new console that is limited to shoot-em ups, fighting etc. etc. (I'm not saying that's all they have, but that is the vast majority).

Why did they take so long to put in HD? Especially since the 360 had HD at that time too.

Well I own and sell my consoles as I see fit. What I didn't notice until I read this is that I've never sold my Nintendo console for the sake of getting a Xbox or PS. I will sell it for the next gen Nintendo console though. So for me, while I own a PSP, Wii, PS3, Xbox 360, and a 3DS, nothing will ever match beat Nintendo despite it's "inferior" tech.

actually, how did you not lose faith after the entirety of 2008 where Brawl dissapointed, everyone hated Mario Kart Wii and almost nothing else worthwhile came out for Nintendo systems (not to mention the horrible E3)?

I would rather have PS3, but too expensive, and the wii is what i've got. More PS3 games appeal to me than wii. Like Lost Planet 2. Best. PS3. Game. Ever.

Umm...what? While I understand you not liking it, I'm pretty sure the reception was that the game was really good.

Admittedly, that E3 was absolutely terrible. But as for the Wii's software lineup for 2008, I wouldn't say they wasn't nothing worth playing. There was de Blob, Disaster: Day of Crisis (admittedly a UK-and-Japan-only game), Guitar Hero (both World Tour and Aerosmith), Klonoa, Little King's Story, Okami (a but still worth it), the first two Rock Band games, and Wario Land: Shake It. Considering that if you're following the game industry and paying full price for each game, that's plenty of games to fill up the year.
