Topic: Is Wii Play really that bad?

OK next time I have a room full of drunken people and we are going through the usual cycle of Wii mini-games (play/sports/rabbids, etc). I shall stop them during the Wii-Play fun and ask them what they think of it, objectively.

EDIT: Actually, I'm not getting involved, tis silly. I'm off to enjoy me some Wii-Play goodness. ;P

@Blackdragon

By full price i mean the standard full price of 50$.

@vince220

If all Wii games including wii play would be 10$ like you suggest
I would wish wii play good luck competing with other games like Twilight Princess, NSMB, Galaxy, Wii Sports Resort, Brawl etc.

@Machu

please don't. I'm not saying there's no fun to be had with wii play when you are drunk. That doesn't make it good.

@blackdragon

thanks for trying so hard to understand me! I don't pay dollars for my Wii games so you tel me!

Standard price = the price of most Wii games when they are released.

Anyway this is leading to nothing, so go ahead and write eachother how incredibly good Wii play is, i won't interfere anymore.

I like the tank game, the rest was decent enough, if short lived fun, though like most I'm sure, the main reason I got it was the controller.

Wow, what a messy thread!
I consider Wii Play a package; it's a Wii Remote with a bonus treat for ten extra bucks. In that sense it's good. Of course it can't hold its own against almost any other Nintendo game on the system, but it doesn't have to. All I need is Tanks and I'm happy.

Well, the only game I ever played was "tanks", and I only got to play it for about 30 seconds.
I thought it was pretty fun, but I can't say much about the other games.

Just let it happen.

This thread should have ended abruptly, precisely when Dragon hit the nail on the head by referring to WP as a glorified demo disc.

Nintendo knew what they were doing. They made a Wiimote bundle package and value-added in WP to increase their profit margins on that bundle. The only reason the WP sales figured were so good was because people needed and bought an extra Wiimote and it came with WP, not because they wanted WP and happened to get an extra Wiimote.

What would have been a much wiser decision, in my admittedly not-so-humble opinion, would have been to include a download ticket for WP via Wii-Ware rather than a disc, thus driving attach rates to that service and all the beneficial trappings that involves (awareness, customer reinforcement, incremental revenue, better margin, etc., etc.) but I undertand that the infrastructure may not have been fully in place to support it at the time.

I do not own Wii Play.

Pose Mii is awful. I think everyone can agree on that.

@KnucklesSonic8: Agreed.

@Vendetta: I agree with Dragon. It is a glorified tech demo, and truthfully, I did buy the game just for the wii remote. I only had a passive interest in the game itself. But does that mean that there is NOTHING on the disc that could be considered fun? I found tremendous value in these basic, yet addictive games.

Contradictory to all that I've just said, I do think that including Wii Points with a Wii Remote would've been a very good idea. Like you said, it would've garnered much more attention to the Wii Shop Channel, and perhaps Nintendo would be having greater sales on the VC and Wiiware if they had done that instead.

Still, Nintendo could've done much worse than what's included in this $10 game. For the value you get out of it, it's a lot better than most of the shovelware flooding the shelves these days.

If you think New Super Mario Bros. Wii is hard, try Super Mario Bros. 3.

That's actually my favorite game on the disc.

As for the discussion at hand, yes it is a glorified tech-demo. So was Wii Sports, and so was Luigi's Mansion when the GC launched. But is that a bad thing? Not necessarily, no. Wii Sports, Wii Play, and Luigi's Mansion are all incredibly fun and addicting games. Yes it's a tech demo, but it's a darn fun one. I don't understand what the argument at hand is, really. It's a free game with your Wii remote, and it happens to be pretty fun.

I wouldn't mind getting the duck-hunt-ish shooting game on Wiiware

For a cheap price, of course

Wii Play is a decent introduction to Motion Control especially for non-Gamers.

Wii Sports is better at this, however.

Both can be picked up and played quickly by you (the Wii owner and a gamer) together with your Mom or some other person who has never played Nintendo and never held a Wiimote. You can show them how to wave the Wiimote around, and 1 or 2 buttons to press. Anyone can play. This is an advantage that many Wii games do not offer. Many (not all) other games are more complicated with the motions or the buttons.

So if you want to play 2-player games with a novice gamer friend on Wii, then try Wii Play ---- if you don't have Wii Sports, or if you're tired of Wii Sports.

If you want to see Wii Play as a "game", then Wii Play is an insult for modern console games, I've never seen in years anything worse than that. If you want to see Wii Play as a cheap training system for Wiimote usage, then fine.

How is it an insult? It's a fun little game that shows off the Wii's revolutionary technology. As long as its fun, who cares about the depth or graphics or whatever?

I for one enjoy Wii Play, granted I don't have it but my cousin has it and it's fun.
I especially enjoy Billiards and the tank game.

I also don't understand the Wii Play hate. The laser hockey is fun, the tank game is kinda neat, the shooting game is great fun, and all the others are pretty decent too. I'm not sure what people expect from it.

The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.

Wii Play cost $50 and $40 cost a Wii Mote so in theory the game cost $10 as much as Downloadable Wiiware game from my point of view is worthed thanks to 3 simple and yet addicting games Tanks!, Find Mii and Pose Mii, while the other 6 are just there to keep it more interesting, personally Tanks! alone is worth 10 bucks is one of those games i keep playing over and over and over again, while Find Mii simple yet addicting idea, Pose Mii was interesting till you master it, Laser Hockey great idea but bad Control, Fishing great concept but Broken, Table Tennis is an okay game but not that competitive as the the three games i mentioned early but better then the rest, Shooting Range a cheap Duck hunt version i prefer shooting Ducks in a Arcade style way not shooting random target's in a time limit, but it's an okay game just like table tennis, Charge! is awful peroid, Billiards is the the reason why Wii Play is consider a "BAD GAME".

Wii Play is a fun game hands down. Unfortunately, it gets old very fast.
