EON asked them to make it the Craig bond, the obvious reason being that they have his contract. I'm also sure that Pierce Brosnan wants nothing to do with James Bond any more and has been doing Irish roles specifically to disassociate himself with Bond(and the misconception that he's English). It's also incredibly likely that the only difference would be the actual look of Bond because Brosnan didn't even do his voice in his own games!(EDIT: He voiced Everything or Nothing but not the others) Daniel Craig, however, is doing his own voice.

For all the talk of Activision cashing in as well, David Wilson and Julian Widdows aren't from Activision and they're the ones in charge of the project.

@Rom
If they want to modernize Bond, they'd have just stuck with Blood Stone. In this business, money talks, and everybody has their price, so they didn't want to pay for Brosnan. It's Activision publishing this, and publishers usually finance the development. We all know Activision, which furthers my claim.
The only reason everyone is on board is because of the title. If it was just another FPS, it wouldn't be getting the support it is now.

@Oregano
Like I said, everyone has their price. Plus I couldn't see him turning down an offer to redo Goldeneye, considering what it did for his career, and what it did for video games.

There could be several reasons why they went with Daniel Craig instead of Pierce Brosnan. It could have been Pierce's call or it could have been Activision/Blizzards call who knows. In truth I think Activison/Blizzard is doing something right here and thats listening to the fans. People have been asking for the N64 GoldenEye to come to the VC or XBLA for years and due to legal redtape with Microsoft, Nintendo, and Activision/Blizzard are doing the next best thing.

Truth is I cant say that Activision/Blizzard is doing it for the money for cryin out loud they make soooo much mony off of World of Warcraft that they probably dont have to make any other games.

If the remake of GoldneEye bugs you sooo much cause levels are different or its Craig instead of Brosnan than go to Ebay or Amazon get an N64 if you dont have one and a copy of GoldenEye N64. Problem solved.

Agreed.

Eurocom isn't your slave, so stop complaining about the games that they are making for you. If you don't want to buy it then don't. If it doesn't sell well, then that is their problem.

I'm actually very new to the James Bond series of films - but I'm not a youngster. I never had much interest in them until just before the release of Casino Royale, when I decided to watch them all in sequence. I found most of them to be extremely dull, unrealistic and camp.

I found the Roger Moore films (and a lot of people disagree with me on this for some reason - nostalgia?) were the worst of the bunch. He was overweight, had no fighting skills, seemed way too old and seemed like he was pulled right out of a Carry On film. I just cringed - was like seeing your grandad pretending to be Bond, whilst saying terrible one liners. Just seemed like a sleaze, really.

I can understand the love for Connery as he was the first real James Bond, but his films haven't aged well but they have that sixties style to them making them camp in a good retro way, unlike the Moore films.

Licence to Kill was the first film I thought was mildly intersting, but thought the Dalton was lacking as Bond a bit. I liked Goldenye - was the first one I really enjoyed, but the Brosnon films after that started to get a bit camp themselves.

Casino Royale, however, was fantastic. For the first time I believed Bond really was this tough secret agent. He could fight properly (rather than just flipping the enemies over) and looked athletic and I actually believed the women in this film could actually be taken in by his charm. The story was great too and made much more sense to have a more subtle villain than a super villain like bad guy wanting to take over the world for no particular reason. Anyway, my point is I think Daniel Craig is the best Bond - I'm not blinded by nostalgia, and if you are it's fine and understandable to like the older films the best, but you certainly can't say Craig is not James Bond.

I actually agree with you wholeheartedly. Roger Moor is a thoroughly disgraceful Bond, not to mention his movies (aside from The Man with the Golden Gun, which is campy but enjoyable) were tripe. Connery and Craig, as far as I'm concerned, are the only actors who have been able fully realize Iam Flemming's original vision.

@BedCommando
When did I ever say that James Bond was Jason Bourne? All I was saying is that the Bourne films were highly influential action movies, and their impact on the recent entries of the Bond franchise (Casino Royale and especially Quantum of Solace) is noticeable.

EDIT: Just to throw in my two cents on the matter, I don't think Pierce Brosnan was a bad Bond at all. He just happened to star in some seriously bad movies. It all went very downhill after Goldeneye.

I realized that I'll just wait until some reviews come out before buying this. I need more details about the online mode's potential before I buy it.

Hope there's no hackers

Yeh, the best footage we've seen if where they just play it! Too much cutting in these trailers!

Got to say though, the character models are very detailed.

That is a nice demo video. Kind of tired of seeing the same Dam level, but at least that keeps us from seeing spoilers. It is also interesting to see how every person who plays the demo goes about the level differently.

scriptwriter details some of the story changes: http://www.officialnintendomagazine.co.uk/article.php?id=20446

"The world has changed," explained Feirstein. "When GoldenEye came out, the big reveal was Trevelyan's father was a Cossack massacred during WWII. Now in order for that to take place today, Trevelyan would be around 80 years old."

personally i would have gone ahead with the decrepit, hobbling, geriatric trevelyn as the villian, but to each his own.

Well even in the original movie Trevelyan was a bit too young considering Sean Bean was 36 at the time(unless of course his father commit suicide twenty years after the betrayal of the Cossacks). Of course the role was originally intended for Anthony Hopkins.

Saying that Hopkins is only 72, Coltraine 60 and Bean 51.

here's a lot of information about the motion capture, and i guess it's no accident that facial animations look so great: http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=139158

  • 9,000 takes for 62 hours of animation, 1/3 ended up in the game
  • Daniel Craig is face and voice for James Bond 007, while Ben Cooke (his usual stunt double) made the stunts work.
    Kirsty Mitchell as Natalia Simonova, Kate Magowan as Xenia Onatopp, Elliot Cowan as Alec Trevelyan and Alec Newman as Valentin Zukovsky.
  • Long casting process, lots of captures for facial gestures, high detail 3D scanning for every model but Craig, who was rendered and animated classic style with lots of reference pics.
  • From million polys face models to hundreds low-poly versions for in-game capable models. About 35 markers put in actors' faces for animation
  • MoCap for guns with a gun expert: they captured reloading and other little movements with real guns.
  • They even captured a big truck they had nearby so they could imitate bouncing, braking, simulate cameras, etc. Used on Dam level.
  • Special system for real-time preview: FPS camera capture + actor motion capture, real time integrated into in-game stages

EDIT: forgot the awesome video. it's in spanish, but it's pretty plain to see what's going on anyway.

The actors they chosen are actually.... well, not famous..... but they're not nobodies either. It's kinda like if Goldeneye was a Made for TV BBC drama!

I was surprised when I saw the reflection too. There is an amazing amount of attention to detail... obviously a cash in!/sarcasm

Seriously! How can anybody say this game is just a cash-in after seeing the ridiculous amount of work that's going into this game.

So that brings me to the big question: how well do you guys think this game is going to sell? Honestly I don't think it's going to sell at that well.

i can't imagine it tanking. it's just too high profile, with a recognizable name and everything. the conduit sold pretty well on the promise of being the wii's first good shooter if i remember, and goldeneye has the potential to actually be the wii's first real great shooter. people can say "they f***ed my bond up, i'm not buying it" all they want, but they said the same about other m and it still sold pretty well.

I think it has no chance of matching the original and I'm not really sure how well it'll do(it depends on how much ad support it gets) but I think it could do similar numbers to COD on the Wii. I think Nintendo will be putting money towards the ads as well.
