I have never played the original xenoblade so I have no idea how big it is. So to dumb it down for me, how much bigger is Xenoblade's map compared to Assasin's Creed 4 Black Flag?

I think of it more in line with a little bit bigger then Twilight Princess. Maybe twice the size of it. I haven't played enough AC4 to be able to tell

I've not played any Assassin's Creed game, but the open world in Xenoblade Chronicles is waaaaayy bigger than Twilight Princess' world.

Xenoblade Chronicles is the biggest open world game I have ever played....that doesn't mean there are bigger ones out there...I just haven't experienced them. It's friggin' huge! There are warp points in the game to get you around because each area is simply GINORMOUS!! :)

I feel that Xenoblade world is bigger but that could be because you walk everywhere oppoosed to sail so it 's hard to say. But the Bionis and Mechonis were enormous

Not sure how accurate these number are, but from Google i found this;

Skyrim's World Size: 16 square miles

Xenoblade's World Size: 145,000 square miles

Looking forward to: ZeldaU & Hyrule Warriors

The problem with Xenoblade was it was broke up in a bunch of sub sections. Elder Scrolls is more a mass of land. Xenoblade had its fair share of massive areas though but if you just walked in a straight line it was huge!

You sure about that?

I can't find a single source saying it's above 16 square miles.. Most say 16 square miles or less.

And Bionis/Mechonis are even bigger, cause if I remember correctly these are numbers from Monolith Soft

Skyrim seemed a lot bigger than it was because of the slow movement speeds. Even your horse moves at a crawl. Skyrim is a lot smaller than people seem to believe.

I'm tempted (when I get home later tonight) to walk completely thru each area in the game from start to finish...and time it as best I can. Anyone else up for the challenge??? :)

Xenoblade's World Size: 145,000 square miles

So the new game is 720,000 square miles? Shiet that's like 10 times the size of UK.

That sounds extremely promising. Has it been confirmed that XBX will use a dual layered disk?

tl;dr version:
Bionis' Leg took 8:15 mins to travel from left side of map to upper right corner

I had company over last night and we mostly played MK8 and then went out. However, I was able to play thru one of the numerous areas in Xenoblade Chronicles and record the time it took to traverse it's massive landscape.

The third area in the game is the Bionis' Leg. Here's a map of it. Starting at the 1 on the left, I went in a straight line right and made my way up to Crevasse Waterfall (top right corner). It took me 8 minutes and 15 seconds to make it up there.

There are other places in this area I could have gone (the Upper Level of the Bionis' Leg, which is lower right, for instance) but since I didn't have time to explore every corner, I went to that top right waterfall.

This is just one area out of a dozen or so to explore. There are other areas much bigger than here (Eryth Sea) but the Bionis' Leg is the first area where the gamer really gets a sense of just how huge this game's landscapes are.

I used a save file that has my character's party at the final boss and I'm so overpowered that I could just run past all the enemies in this early stage of the game. However, when you first get to this area you can't just run past them. You're going to have to fight thus making that 8 minute trek something more of an hour at the least.

But remember, the point isn't to run through these areas as fast as possible but yet to fight enemies and level up; explore every nook & cranny looking for 'secret areas'; and to complete side and main story quests. These big areas are meant for the gamer to spend some time in. I know I would spend days in each area before moving on to the next. ;)
