I think they're both much better games than people give them credit for, but I really wouldn't want them remade. Enough with the remakes already.

Would you have denied fans the Majora's Mask remake too if you had your way? The fans have been wanting that one since Ocarina of Time 3D was announced and has been greatly received upon release and selling very well. Okay, so Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks aren't the greatest Zelda games but thats all the more reason to return to them - to correct what went wrong previously and make them better quality than before. And if many fans haven't played them, then they would effectively be two new Zelda games for them. As for quality, both DS games got 9/10 on NintendoLife so it seems the people who don't like either game are few in number. Flawed games just don't get 9/10 here.

And for graphics, even being released on the Virtual Console, this quality just doesn't satisfy anymore.

Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.

I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!

What a terrible idea....

You would have to tear your Gamepad in half to solve that one puzzle in PH. So not worth it!

I second that, Link Between Worlds buried Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks in the deep cold ground where they belong.

What's the point of remaking any recent 2D Zelda? They're just such one-trick ponies, the last one with any original thought was perhaps the Minish Cap.

Don't hate me because I'm bnahabulous.

I resent that. ALBW had two worlds and the item rental system, so it was technically a two-trick pony

Except it lifted the worlds from a bloody snes game, so the count remains at 1 trick.

Eh, they're still too new for a remake, IMO.

That said, they'd be fine on VC I think, and I seemed to like them more than most. Yes, they each had their issues (PH moreso than ST, which fixed most of the former's issues), but they also had their good points.

PH did something clever with the dual screen setup with almost every boss fight in the game (such as the invisible boss you could only find by looking at the bottom screen, which showed the boss' POV in first person, to judge it's location), and Bellum was an excellent boss fight (even if it was lacking as a villain narratively). ST gave Zelda a more active role than in any other game before it (a genuine help in the adventure, her abilities were required to complete the tower sections), and improved upon many of the concepts introduced in PH (the touch control scheme was refined, and the central dungeon idea was improved upon).

Yes, they're lower on the rung than many other Zelda games, but thanks to the endearing quality of the series, even it's low points are great.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

'Great' is stretching it. Good, sure, but those awful 3D models and painfully slow overworlds can't be 'great.'

It's sad; PH and ST only serve to remind me how cool a Minish Cap-style game could have been on the ds.

I'd buy a remake of Phantom Hourglass. It would be interesting to play it with buttons.

Spirit Tracks?..... Eeeeeehhhhhh...

I really like Phantom Hourglass, but I don't want to see anymore remakes for Zelda. I think they are covered there with Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask 3D, Wind Waker HD being a little extra. It's time for Nintendo to push original Zelda games out.

they should be remade for smartphones and tablets instead

The Legend of Zelda: A Link at it Again.

Explore the same beautiful land of Hyrule with the same places and dungeons as before, and the all new alternate dimension "Slightly Obscure World", where things are also the same, but with slightly darker shades of yellowish green and purple.

The plot involves recovering three pendants of virtue to get the master sword and rescuing 7 sages, who were turned into origami figures and banished to the S.O.W. by the evil wizard Paphel, who is secretly working to resurrect Ganon.

I would buy them, play them and finish them, but what i would really like though is the oracle games remade as a trilogy as originally intended. The oracle games are certainly the best out of all the handheld games (yes even better than Link's Awakening, my first Zelda game).

Oh look, a thread about Zelda again. And we're off to a flying start, we're talking about Phantom Hourglass from the start this time.

I'm not talking about the thread

Anyways, the two DS Zeldas were IMO pretty great and I would like to see them on the eShop. But I don't think that their particular setup would be worth it on anything other than the original DS. The game was built around the touch screen being the primary display. On the Wii U and to some extent the 3DS the system is built such that the top screen is the main screen. It'd kinda be stupid to put all that effort into improving all the assets, making the thing all HD and shiny.... and then displaying a map on the TV

I was about to reply, but then I saw that skywake has spared me the need to.

Here's what I think, word for word:

Yes I would like a gamepad only remake of ST done in a nice 2D cell shade-y art style

Those games were optimized and designed for the DS specifically. Forgetting the Wii U, even on the 3DS, the most similar system, it would be kind of an odd choice as a remake, considering its much heavier stylus use, which was a workaround to not having a Circle Pad in the first place, it would seem kind of strange. Not sure if I'm wording my thoughts clear enough...

I'd much rather a sequel, prequel, or whatever taking place in the same world than a straight-up remake.

If you add me, I need to at least know you or I won't add you back.
