Im thinking about getting a wii u. Is it worth it? Ive played Nintendo since I was a little kid. But in the current generation i have been on xbox/ps3/ps4 after my wii got old. I dont understand the Wii U and how it works. Is the controller comfortable? Is the online service better?
Also, I have wii and i havent played it since who knows when and i heard the service went offline in may. How do i download the latest firmware?

Controller is quite comfortable, I love it. Plus, the bottom screen is nice when the game puts the map/inventory menu on it. I'd say yes, it's worth it, but you should probably look through the games library and see for yourself if you'd want to put the money into buying one.

Okay I was gonna put this long drawn out post on what it is but Nintendo did that for me:
link.
The gyst:
-The Wii U is Nintendo's new console.
-The GamePad is Wii U only
-You can play old Wii games on it, the Wii Shop channel is still up, but online is down.
-The Wii U is fully compatible with all the old Wii stuff
There. You can also the link above or NLife for games.

Yes, Mario Kart 8 is pretty fantastic. Here's the review.
Super Smash Bros U is coming out in Winter, but no specific date.
Here's more info.

EDIT: And Super Mario 3D World is spectacular, here's the review.

Absolutely..... get it (and MK8) by the 31st and you will get a free game. I have 60 hours on MK8- it's possible that you will put 100 hours on the two games in just a few months, so your cost per hour to play is only $3 and change.

Buy Mario Kart 8 till the end of this month if you're looking for a free game. It pretty great. 3D world is awesome too because well mostly I'm in it and smash bros is maybealy coming out till the year is over.

Was Mariobro4. No, I'm not taking off my backpack...it's important.

A year ago I would have said heck no, but I feel it is worth buying now. They sell refurbished ones on Nintendo's website for 200. That's how I got mine, and it came in great condition, might as well have been brand new.

YES times like million!!!

Plus haven't we seen posts just like this a bunch of times?

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

The answer to this question on a Nintendo forum will overwhelmingly tell you that it is. Try on a forum for another console and the answer would be something completely different.

You should look at what you like and what the Wii U has.

But to answer your question, yes it is.

Heck Yeah! Maybe a year ago I would of said no due to lack of games but now the wii u is in full swing with a good amount of 1st party titles (mario u luigi u mario 3d world dkc tropical freeze pikmin 3 mario kart 8) out now and more coming this fall and next year! Not to mention the virtual console games and the fantastic indie games on the eshop. Solid system.

If you are remotely interested in Nintendo games, get it. I've had various nintendo products over the years, but missed out on a few systems- N64, Gamecube and for the most part the Wii. I've never finished a Mario game but always enjoyed it. I got the Wii U in April 2013 b/c I thought the gamepad looked so cool. It's a pretty awesome controller. The Wii U has sparked my interest in games again.

As mentioned above, if you are REALLY into gaming, then maybe this isn't the console for you as a sole/primary console, b/c you will miss out on a lot of titles. But the flip side is that those who don't own a Wii U are missing out too. For me, the lack of third party support is a complete non issue. I have several of the earlier third party releases- Batman Armored Edition, Splinter Cell, Mass Effect, COD Black Ops, Deus Ex, AC3- this is enough of that type of game for me. Heck there's even COD Ghosts, Batman Arkham City, eventually Watch Dogs and then also AC4.

The only game I feel like I'm missing out on is Madden. I've heard that there really wasn't a huge difference in 2013 and 2014. Eventually I might break down and get a Ps4 to play that and a few other games. For now, I've got more than enough games, not to mention all the cool stuff being released in the next year or so.

Asking that question here is like walking up to a drug dealer and asking him if buying crack would be a good thing to do.

"Worth it" is a funny question, because people enjoy different games and have different amounts of money for entertainment.

However, since Wii U consoles have been on sale pretty regularly for $200 (sometimes less!) and offers many high-quality games that simply can't be played anywhere else, my feeling is that a Wii U is/will be worth owning for most gamers.

Speaking personally, getting Super Mario 3D World and Monster Hunter and the Xenoblade sequel will justify the cost. Stuff like Bayonetta 1+2, Pikmin 3, Mario Kart, and Deus Ex are icing on the cake.

Wait til' the end of the year to pick it up. No reason to pick one up right at the moment when Smash comes out during the holidays plus Christmas sales play into the Wii U's price as well.

As many times as we see this topic, I think it's really REALLY easy to answer this, at this point. Do you like Nintendo? Then, yeah, it's worth it. Is this going to be the only system you use this generation? Then maybe it's not worth it. Do you require third parties and multiplats to fill out your gaming library? Then either have a PC on hand or forget about the Wii U.

There are plenty of games, so don't let people tell you their aren't. But if you can't gel with at least three of Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Metroid, Star Fox, Kirby, Yoshi, and Smash, then don't jump the gun because it'll be a long time before 3rd parties start really paying attention to the Wii U.

A nifty calendar (Updated 9/13/15)
