I'm gonna be contrarian and say it's best to get a Sega Saturn. It has Burning Rangers as an exclusive!

Wait til' the end of the year to pick it up. No reason to pick one up right at the moment when Smash comes out during the holidays plus Christmas sales play into the Wii U's price as well.

Well, I disagree. It might have been questionable last year at this time (tho I think I got good value out of my system over the summer). But now, there's plenty to keep one busy between now and the holidays. I've enjoyed a lot of the eShop indies, plus there's a fair of third party titles that came out last year (granted, that might not be a plus for somebody who has played them on other systems). If you can't keep busy with those, plus Pikmin, NSMBU, Mario 3dw, Wonderful 101, Zombie U, MK8, DKTF, Wii Sports Club you are probably unemployed.

Granted, if you are expecting new major releases that other platforms are getting, this won't be for you.

Not yet for me.
NES/SNES/GB/GBC/GBA - Play on Retron 5 or GBA SP (have original NES and SNES too)
Game Cube and Wii - Play on RVL-001 Wii
DS and 3DS play - Play on 3DS XL

I think I can wait on Wii U indefinitely, maybe pick up the future gen console if it is Wii U backward compatible. Now if a great metroid comes out for Wii U all bets are off.

Is Wii U more fun than Wii? Wii motion control was fun but the games got old and I missed my controller. It felt fun and all but I didn't feel the Nintendo experience. MK8, SSB, & SM3DW look fun and finally HD. I dont much care for the tablet style controller but does it take away from the experience? I prefer the controller regular and Ive been skeptic of the style of the controller. Has the online service improved as well?

Hmmm, the only thing that I can think of that uses the motion control is Wii Sports Club. that's a fun game, but not sure it's any different than the motion controls. Oh, I guess Just Dance and maybe a few others.

As for the gamepad, I love it but if it's just not your style, then you can play most games with a Wii Mote or a Pro Controller, which is on sale at Best Buy now.

Yes, for the simple fact it can play all Wii games plus Wii U. So it is mmore un than a Wii.

The GamePad adds to the experience. Mario Kart and SM3DW are fun without the GamePad (some 3D World levels require the GamePad) but the GamePad adds to the experience.

The Wii U online experience is much approved over the Wii's Online Experience

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...

Most of those questions already have been aswered. Whether it's more fun than the Wii or not is up to you. The Wii was a massive success, so naturally the third party support was better than the Wii U's current third party support. The GamePad is very comfortable. It acts like a regular controller, just a little wider (and not so great battery life...). The online services have improved tremendously.

If you can't find your remote control TV the gamepad comes in handy, you can use the gamepad as a TV remote

The Wii U is most definitely worth it good sir. Great games, the Gamepad is innovative and cool (youtube it for some insight), pretty solid online service, and a reasonable price. I can't think of any legitimate cons other than the system not being as powerful as the XONE or PS4 (but who really cares)

Pros

  • Gamepad is a cool piece of kit (off-tv play, very intuitive when it's comes to searching youtube or the net on your tv)
  • Great first-party Nintendo titles like MK8 and Super Mario 3D World
  • Backwards compatibility with the Wii and it's games library
  • Lots of family friendly titles that may still appeal to older gamers

Neutral
/ Lots of controller options, gives variety, but it may be a turn off for some expecting a more elegant solution
/ Graphically the Nintendo published titles look phenomenal, but it's still closer to the 7th gen of consoles overall

Cons

  • Poor third party support, don't expect the same games that are on the PS4 or XBO
  • With that comes a slow release table, if you only buy three or four games a year, you'll be fine, if gaming is a main hobby, you may be disappointed in the long droughts
  • Could use more mature games, or a library that appeals to a wider demographic, lack of sport, action, and racing titles
  • Lack of commonality, off-tv selection differs, controller requirements may differ, input for the OS differs, etc.

I'd say this is a fair review, but have some minor differences of opinion.

1. I think it's a clear step up from 7th generation graphics. Obviously not quite as crisp as PS4 or Xbone.
2. I think to say that there's a lack of mature games is also misleading. While if you want mature games to be the focus of your system, maybe this isn't the system for you. But I have AC3, Deus Ex, Mass Effect, Splinter Cell, Black Ops, Zombie U, Need for Speed- then there's Ghosts, AC4, eventually Watch Dogs, Bayonetta, X- there's probably a few others that I missed but this is more than enough "mature" titles for me. Agreed with sports. Racing will get Project Cars and then Shinen's Fast (blanking on the exact title).
3. With the library that it has, you can get considerably more than 3-4 titles per year, plus what is in the pipeline. Plus it has a decent selection of indie and VC games.

Anyway, if you are like me and have a interest in Nintendo games, plus maybe want to check out a few mainstream titles (albeit now dated), then the Wii U is a great choice. If you have been playing other consoles and expect to get a lot of the upcoming popular titles you see coming out in video game magazines, you will be disappointed and will need another console/PC to be satisfied. As I mentioned, for me, the Wii U does about 95 percent of what I want/need from a console. I'm a little upset that I can't get the new Madden and at least have the option to consider a few of the popular titles coming out on the other systems, but again, that's probably only about 6 at most. The fact that Nintendo has a very solid line up coming out in the next 10-15 months more than makes up for that.
