@sinalefa I can't see Microsoft bothering to nab a second exclusive by any Japanese developer, let alone a second by Platinum. There audience just isn't there. Japanese games on Xbox sell about as well as Ubisoft games on Nintendo.

Indeed. I doubt Scalebound will sell much better than Bayonetta 2 did on Wii U. Of course, Platinum is kinda cursed anyway - none of their games sell that well unless it's Metal Gear Rising.

You never know with Microsoft. After the terrible Japanese Xbox360 sales one would expect that X1 would skip Japan and it didn't.
And from what little I have seen of Scalebound, and particularly the lead character, I can't shake off the feeling that Kamiya is trying to appeal to a Western audience to broaden the userbase. I am pretty sure that MS will advertise the hell out of it too.
I will comment in this thread, never being able to find it again.
Obviously it might be anything, but I think the chances it turns out to be something Bayo-related are not that low. They said they wanted to further expand the IP and try something new with the third installment, so it might be a spin-off of sorts. Oh, and didn't they post a happy new year and stuff postcard teasing some more Bayonetta?
Rising 2 would make the most sense. It was their biggest success, and the original game has a very loyal fan following.
Honestly, I don't care what it is. At this point, the quality of Platinum's releases means that I can get excited for basically anything they announce.
Best thread ever

"Microsoft has Scalebound as an Exclusive, so I don't think another one. So we can rule out Xbox One Exclusivity."
Why? Nintendo got two exclusives in a row from them and MS's checkbook is bigger.
Their checkbook only matters as far as they're willing to use it and MS is historically stingy. 360 had practically no exclusives and even Tomb Raider is only a timed deal.
I would sooner expect Sony or Nintendo to contract Platinum. Or they might even get hired by Capcom to make Okami 3, you know, in my dreams...

"practically no exclusives" = more than PSP, Wii, and DS.
Well to be fair and I know this isn't what was said but.... that same list for the XBOne? Or just this console generation in general. Makes you wonder what the point of owning one platform over another is anymore. At the very least it makes the case for Nintendo + PC being the best combo a lot stronger. I mean look at all that yellow. Damn.

Oh yeah. Completely different story this gen. Microsoft had no trouble with exclusives last gen though. They were the easier platform to develop for and, for most of the generation, had the higher install base, especially in US/UK. For the first few years, they actually aggressively targeted Japanese developers too. It didn't pan out and a lot of exclusives ended up with (sloppy) PS3 ports, but it's revisionist to say that the 360 lacked software in any capacity.
One could even argue that the Xbox 360's selection of JRPGs were better than the PS3's. So many were multiplats, the ones that weren't were mostly Idea Factory/Compile Heart garbage, and I'm struggling to think of a better PS3 exclusive than Tales of Vesperia.
Edit: Somehow forgot about the JRPG of the generation, Valkyria Chronicles. Still, "one could argue."
IGN is revealing this the same day as Nintendo's E3 so I'm leaning towards a Wii U game myself. Also, something to note: Spike TV revealed Wonderful 101 the same day as Nintendo's E3 a few years back.

Yes, but quality also has to factor into that. What great exclusives did 360 have that weren't Halo, Gears, or timed? That, my friend, is a much shorter list.
Not to mention that all of those many 'exclusives' the 360 did have were because it was top dog, not because Microsoft actually invested in the medium.
The funny and sad thing about it is that Scalebound hasn't received any coverage at all from Platinum Games. When Bayonetta 2 was being developed, PG constantly made blogs on their own website about the game. Hopefully E3 will finally show more.
I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

With only a cinematic trailer out it's clear that they lacked a game to show last year. Just like how the Phantom Dust cinematic had no relation to the actual game.

Undoubtedly true, but games like Halo, Gears, and Forza are kind of a big deal. Those three series alone are among the most critically acclaimed and best selling games in their respective genres. If you want to use quality as a barometer, Halo 3 is worth as much as pretty well every PS3 exclusive FPS combined and I would consider Gears of War a strong contender for most defining and influential game of the generation, for better or worse.
