Topic: "We need all the games we can get"

As we all know the Wii U is lacking in 3rd party support, and I have no interest in discussing that subject as there are already 1,349,053 threads covering it. But lately, due to this lack of support I've been hearing a lot of people claim "We need all the games we can get." Typically this is in defense of cheap or low quality games coming to the U. There is a part of me that gets that sentiment... as I, myself, have found gaps throughout the past two years where the U hasn't exactly been bursting with new games to play. But I also remember the Wii era, where we were getting a lot of games and a lot of them were...terrible. Having a constant stream of quickly made shoddy games didn't make the Wii any better, and many would say it hurt the system and Nintendo's credibility. So why do so many people dismiss the same thing happening on the U? Does the price of the shoddy games make all the difference? Or is it simply that the gap between Ninty's big titles are too spread out and people just get really really bored?

Ok hold up, I want to stop you right here.

When has anyone ever defended cheap, low quality games coming to the Wii U? Please use links, because I have never seen this.

Not necessarily doubting you, but I need context for this thread.

It's pretty bad when I see WiiU owners start saying things like "I want!" to games like Rock Zombie.

Have you seen the Gameplay footage? It looks terrible. Yet we get people saying "Oh It looks Interesting might pick it up!" No, don't pick it up, get Teslagrad or Steamworld Dig instead. Well worth your money than Rock Zombie.

Though I like to agree with those who say "We need all the games we can get" to games like Fatal Frame. That game is on the WiiU and North American and European users haven't seen a Fatal Frame game since the PS2.

So I'm with their boat. However with a game like Watch Dogs, which is becoming very clear that Ubisoft has done a SHODDY job bringing the game to WiiU owners and looks like they PURPOSELY delayed the game because of the off chance it would sell bad just to try to exploit the Christmas Market so it would sell "better", Is part of the problem of saying "We need all the games we can get." attitude. Because while WiiU IS still getting Watch Dogs, Ubisoft is going to exploit ALL WiiU owners by NOT giving them the DLC, probably NOT giving them any online modes for the game, AND not doing anything with the gamepad instead just displaying the Map, all for $60 at retail while all the options are at the most $40 now. That is bull crap.

WiiU needs Quality and Fair Priced Games to their library. Not Unfair Priced Games and Poor Quality titles to fill the eShop and Retail Stores, that is what ultimately killed the Wii's branding and is part of the reason why the WiiU did so poorly at launch.

In other words, Look and Support games like Teslagrad and Bayonetta 2. Those are games we should be buying and asking for on the WiiU. Not Games like Watchdogs and Rock Zombie.

It depends. The Wii U is still getting indie games, and that's a huge part of the market now. I've been taking advantage of alot of the sales these last couple weeks, so I haven't really been bored. I bought DuckTales and D&D together, for less than the price than they were when they are not on sale. I upgraded my Xbox 360 Minecraft for the Xbox One version, and I know that isn't Wii U related, but $5 got me some more quick entertainment, and that's my main point here. Then I saw the sales going on this week, and I ended up buying Splintercell for $20. It wasn't even part of the sale, but the sale got me looking at other games, and I know it used to cost $60. Indie games can get you quick entertainment on the cheap, and there's sales all the time. What I'm trying to say is, that it's just as easy to throw $5 at a console indie game as it is to throw $.99 at a smartphone game. That's how I look at it, anyway.

I also think people are more willing to give certain games a shot when there is less available. People get bored, there's a $5 indie game goes on sale for like $3. It's hard to say no to that. Then the games do well and you get a few more indie games from others doing well. That's what's interesting about hype surrounding a big game. Everybody tries to buy things day one, but then tons of other stuff is coming out, whileother stuff is going on sale, your bored, so you might not even end up buying what you were planning to and $5 to buy a game that might last you like 10 hours is just too damn easy to get sucked into. Then there's the Deluxe Digital Promo and VC sale, so you know you're gonna get $5 for another indie game or something... and so on. So ya, getting whatever is a good thing, because all that other stuff is also happening.

LegatoSkyheart: What the hell is a "Rock Zombie"?

CaviarMeths: Good point. While some people are saying we should "support" games like Watchdogs even though they were delayed and aren't looking to deliver on promises or make good on the excuses used (IE: "speacial features") ...It's not like Watchdogs is a "bad" game.

For the most part, Wii U owners all over the net and social media have been openly mocking and rejecting games like that new Penguins of Madagascar and those 02 company shovel ware games like Luv Me Buddies and Wii fit U music or whatever.

If anything, the overwhelming consensus has been that Nintendo needs to exercise some quality control over E-shop releases and cut down on the shovelware.

This filth is Rock Zombie.

Oh and I agree with you. Nintendo needs to exercise some Quality control.

How many games do people need/ can even afford in a month? We have at least one good exclusive Nintendo game coming out every month now- it seems- so where's the problem or where's the gap between the releases?

At the moment, this seems to be mainly a NoA problem, since it's far easier to release a game on the NoA eShop than on any of the other eShops. And personally, I like to focus on the good-quality titles rather than on the bad titles I don't want. Teslagrad for example, is a really great game for what I have played so far (about an hour or so).

Nothing is coming out in December (unless Captain Toad is December for North America).

Not only that, a lot of people have multiple systems to support. Between my Wii U, 3DS, and Vita, I can barely afford to keep up with the games I want.

Exactly. I currently play on Wii U, 3DS and Vita as well, and I have a good-sized backlog. These "gaming droughts" hardly affect me.

You'll take your ten or so games a year from Ninty and have no choice but to deal with it... It is not like U only owners have a choice to be picky.

Actually: 2012: 4. 2013:12. 2014:7. 2015+: 11. 34 games thus far.

Late 2014 and 2015 haven't happened yet so you can't include those games! At current there is only a lot to choose from if you've only recently bought a Wii U, if you got it at launch in 2012 then Wii U only is not feasible yet. This is why those game drought topics keep coming up, for a console the expectation is that if you wanted to you could only own that console and it would still be a long time enjoyable experience. 3DS got to that position last year and yes, a 3DS + Wii U only combination would be pretty much perfect providing you don't care about FPS games. Wii U will get to that position in 2015.

With the 3ds and Wii U, I have a ton of games. This is roughly the price of an Xbone with the XL and a PS4 w the 2ds.

There are at least four Indies that I want, plus bayonetta, hyrule, smash and Toad.... That's more than enough for me.

You're both ignoring 3rd party. Don't feel bad though. Everybody does.

I don't even have that many of them, but I still have:

Ninja Gaiden 3
Tekken Tag Tournament 2
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Resident Evil Revelations
Sonic: Lost World (yeah, I know)
Batman: Arkham Origins
Warriors Orochi 3
Assassin's Creed III
Assassin's Creed IV
Wonderful 101

And if I didn't already have them on other systems, there would be 3 or 4 more added on that list. Bayonetta and Bayonetta 2 will be added to that list next month. I did buy a Wii U at launch and between 1st and 3rd party, I've bought more games for it in the last 2 years than I have bought for any other system in the same time frame ever.

I feel like it should be obvious, but the main difference between a Wii U owner and a non-Wii U owner is that the Wii U owner actually likes the games on the Wii U. Those that don't, those that are missing the large CoD community, GTA, and sports, are generally the type who buy a Nintendo as a secondary console anyway. The "Wii U only" gamer is a relatively small group of people, and they are generally happy with it. Mario Kart and Smash are about as hardcore as the Nintendo-only crowd gets, and by Christmas, both of those will be out.

Quit misusing the term "need". As gamers, we don't really "need" anything. We only "WANT" stuff

Third parties exist on Wii U? But mainly U owners are there for specific first party support.

@CaviarMeths I'm not ignoring 3rd party, from that list a lot of them are dumbed down ports of other platforms. As I keep hearing on this site, the 3DS version of Resident Evil Revelations is far superior than all other versions, MH3U is another one. The ones of that list I'd recommend are: Sonic Lost World and Batman Arkham Origins (the last one being because Wii U is the only version not to have save file corruptions). I will be buying W101 eventually but unfortunately it's one of those games where the demo puts you off buying it.
