@Blastoise-san

You mean Mario Kart 8 a series which on consoles seems to do as well as the install base at the time, and X a sequel to a under preforming cult hit in a genre that we still aren't sure will be fully reviatzled despite prosing entieres in the genre.

Also you mean 3rd parties like Platnuim realized that the Wii U was a good fit for thier games, when no one else would fund them becuase despite being good games they won't make back the investment. If I were a third party I wouldn't fund thier games either when I can pull an ubisoft and make my own art house games for cheaper in house.

Also its rumored that Platnuim is working on a Xbox One game for microsoft.

Didn't Marrio Kart Wii sell so much because of the Wii's install base and not based on the fact that the game itself was a system seller. Using the logic dicated New Super Mario Bros U should have shifted about 10 million consoles right. DOuble Dash didn't push the gamecube at all either.

I think for most people... the best side scrolling Mario games were the old ones. I think most people want a Sunshine or Galaxy game for Wii U instead of NSMBU. I think Mario: Sunshine and Mario: Galaxy could become system sellers if Nintendo did them right. coughs loudly... then should have been launch titles for Wii U Thats why NSMBU didn't have incredible huge sales. Mario Kart: Double Dash is a very good game and I luv it. I thought alotta Gamecube owners loved Double Dash.... Maybe I'm wrong. I'm only being optimistic for Mario Kart 8 selling pretty good BECAUSE Mario Kart 7 sold pretty dang well on 3DS and helped sell some units. I think that will happen to Mario Kart 8, too. I'm not one of those fools who think every game with Mario attached to it sells incredibly good.

Mario Kart 7 was also on a Nintendo Handheld that just received a price drop. Mario Kart 7 was always going to do well just based on the system it was on. Nah 2D mario tends to sell more than the 3D Mario and its one of the reasons why 3D land and 3D world exist. Gamers did love double has but it wasn't a system seller (IE save the gamecube) by any strech of the imagination.

A price cut itself will not guarantee sales it needs to be backed up with good software, after all a cheap console with no games is as much use as an expensive one with no games.

You also have to take into account the market conditions in 2012 were far worse than when the Ps3/360 and Wii had when they launched.

That's not true anymore. That worked back in March, to say monthly sales didn't matter because the overall numbers were comparable but the 360 kept up solid sales through year 1 (about 500-600k a month), so by the end of its first June it was on 5 million sales, the Wii U had 3.6 million.

Some people don't think it matters that nearly 90% of Wii U's sales came in its first 6 weeks, but that gives the impression that once the hardcore Nintendo crowd who bought it at launch are out of the way, almost nobody else cares about it. It's not even comparable to the 3DS slump. The price cut of the 3DS happened after they only sold a 'disastrous' 710,000 units in Q2 2011, but the Wii U only sold 160,000 in Q2 2013. It's a far, far worse situation.

Mario Kart 8 and Monolith's X walks in and waves hi Don't worry. Those 2 games will save the Wii U even if Super Smash Bros. U doesn't.

I'm not sure what Mario Kart 8 and X have to do with it? I said in my post I think things will turn around soon. My point was people keep asking, why is the Wii U getting such negative talk when the PS3 and 3DS were in the same position. I'm pointing out that the Wii U sales have been far, far worse than those consoles, and that the negative talk is not because Sony and MS are paying off all media outlets as some on here genuinely believe.

I understand everything you said but I disagree with the last part of your comment: "...not because Sony and MS are paying off all media outlets as some of here genuinely believe." There ARE some gaming journalists who just don't like Nintendo and consistently writes negative articles about Nintendo. I do have some examples but I don't wanna get in trouble so I gotta shut up on that. Some media outlets just do not give Nintendo the credit they deserve. I've read tons of "Nintendo is doomed!" articles from various places but I never read a article about the Vita struggling or how Microsoft struggled with the Xbox One, or etc. Its...just weird, y'know? A Wii U supporter can't help but think: "We keep getting trashed but nobody else is...?" I don't think they are getting paid off but I do think that some gaming journalists love writing bad stuff about Nintendo. Nintendo is the punching bag out of the Big 3. Nintendo is the one who gets kicked down and punched in the face. The backlash of the Xbox One's original policies is still nothing compared to the negativity surrounding Nintendo. Go on Youtube and look up a trailer for Bayonetta 2 or Sonic Lost World... There are literally people upvoting people who say, "NOOO!!! Why is this a Wii U exclusive?! I hate Nintendo! They are just for kids!! They can't do anything right!!!". But if you go on Youtube and look up a trailer for any Sony/Microsoft exclusives... do you see any comments saying... "NO!!! I wish they was for Wii U!!! Sony and Microsoft sucks!!" No... you don't. I know I'm drifting off subject so I'll end it with this:

There are plently of people who like saying Nintendo is dead, doomed and a failure. The fact that the Wii U is struggling only spurs on more hate.

Those same people are hyprocites because they wish Zelda was on Sony and Microsoft platforms.

I'm very sorry for drifting off topic but I had to say that.

I own a Wii U and 3DS. I also own a PS4!

To be fair, the "price drop in the first year" thing that saved the 3DS was a bit unprecedented, so I doubt any of them saw that coming...

Okay, I see your point but I still say Nintendo gets the most hits out of the Big 3. Let's not forget that EA engineer who basically called Nintendo a joke and a failure... Remember that? And then there are the Micheal Pachter articles... and he's almost always trashing Nintendo...and then there's that Skyrim employee who threw cheap shots at Nintendo. Yes... Sony and Microsoft do get talked badly by gaming media. BUT... Nintendo still gets the most punches. You see that... right?

I just think people like to talk s***. I read some of those articles @Sony_70 put up, and PS fans are defending PS consoles in an almost identical manner as Nintendo fans.

The price drop was not the only factor, the release of Mario kart 7 and Mario 3-d land also boosted sales.

Without doubt there will be similar excuses flying about all over the place when both the Ps4 and Xbox 1 also struggle in their first year, the economic climate plus the fact that there will be few must have titles will mean people will hold off for a while, also the continuing support for their previous consoles will have an effect as well.

My personal opinion off the Wii U's situation is that Nintendo rushed the console to market before it was ready, the reasons for this was pressure from Nintendo's shareholders, when the decision was made the Wii was winding down and the 3DS was not setting the world on fire with sales either.

The Wii U was brought to market sooner because they did not want to miss the busy 2012 Christmas sales period, the main reason I suspect this is the Wii U's operating system had a very beta feel to it at launch, also you had to pretty much download all of the consoles features when you got the console home.

As the console was rushed to market Nintendo have not bee able to get their main franchises ready in time, they also did not realise that rendering visuals in HD took more time as well.

Nintendo console sales will always be driven by their own IP's so let's see what happens when we get some.

But that;s ebcuase Nintendo put out the console gave dev kits and said make games for our system. Sony and Microsoft called in third parties to give suggestoions and input into building their two machines.

The following comes from Bethesda’s Pete Hines...

“The time for convincing publishers and developers to support Wii U has long past. The box is out. You have to do what Sony and Microsoft have been doing with us for a long time and it’s not that every time we met with them we got all the answers we wanted. But they involved us very early on, and talking to folks like Bethesda and Gearbox, they say ‘here’s what we’re doing, here’s what we’re planning, here’s how we think it’s going to work’ to hear what we thought – from our tech guys and from an experience standpoint.

You have to spend an unbelievable amount of time upfront doing that. If you’re just going sort off deciding ‘we’re going to make a box and this is how it works and you should make games for it.’ Well, no. No is my answer, I’m going to focus on other ones that better support what it is we’re trying to do. So you’ve gotta spend more time trying to reach out to those folks before you even make the box, when you’re still designing and thinking about how it’s going to work.”

I completely agree. I'd be surprised by anything else, quite frankly. Remember way back in E3 2011 when I said people demanding Wii U be shown and come out soon were dumb? Probably one of the reasons I hate people's ignorance about Nintendo is because of I never got to bash Wii U for being a stupidly rushed console because people were being stupid. Because I was right, you were wrong, I bet half of the people complaining about the console were whining for it to be released sooner. What fools. Sad Nintendo did this, even if they were pressured. Dumb idea from them, understand why but I think with the soon to be 300 dollar price tag and actually launching with major titles it would have done so much better. Like, in theory it's good they got it out first so now they had an extra year and use their franchises and cheaper price to compete...but I think that was gonna happen anyway. This just meant Nintendo looked stupid for a while.

I'm not sure that says anything other than Nintendo didn't care about Bethesda, which they really don't. Someone should get some interviews with devs closer to Nintendo meethinks to actually confirm stuff one way or the other.

In all honestly I think the Xbox One may actually do worse than the Wii U. The PS4 and Wii U are both cheaper, the PS4 seems to have a better line up, and the PS4 will simply blow it out of the water. The advantage the Wii U has is Nintendo's games, so it can be a secondary system but the Xbox One cannot.

I wouldn't be surprised if after all the Xbox fans bought the One that sales will stagnate.
