hotlfusion commented on Nintendo Direct: Trailers Round-Up:

Some people are so easily pleased. If more people were so easily pleased Nintendo would have sold a billion Wii Us by now.

Seriously though, although the ND was pretty much as I expected I am not pleased with the three month gap between DKC:TF and the next title.

Reggie, you promised that there would be no droughts in 2014. I believed you. OK, I didn't.
If a console needs rapid games to sell it, it is the wii u.
How many wii u games will we get the first six months of 2014 in the game shops??

hotlfusion commented on Talking Point: The Watch_Dogs Wii U Delay Demo...:

As usual there are so many Nintendo fans that only care about Nintendo games and are quite happy with that. Therefore the wii u is powerful enough for them and they downplay the more powerful X1 and PS4 as being "PCs".

The hard fact they need to wake up to is that the sales are horrible and the company is suffering financially. How could this be good??

I like Nintendo and for the good of the company none of what is happening is good. I want third-party support, I want better wii u sales etc.,

Some fans hate to hear anyone "dooming" the system. They are out of touch with reality, like the fanatics in Berlin hoping for a miracle to save them from losing the war in 1945 when common sense indicated otherwise.
The above analogy may be a bit extreme but it really is like that in a not so morbid sense.

This is all coming late in 2014 - maybe later. Time will tell if it works and I wish them luck. Personally I believe console fitness "games" gimmick died with the wii version of the wii fit games and trying to recapture that particular bolt of lightning is a lost cause. Similar to trying to recapture the wii owners with the wii u.

In the meantime the poor wii u sales continue with no additional marketing or major promotions. No enticement for anyone to buy the console. No new announcements. Maybe they have a whole lot of faith in MK and SSB being its savior.

Nintendo can buy back as much stock as they want at these prices but it changes nothing.
Wii U is still a potential disaster that needs to be dealt with, whoever owns the shares.
Whether their stock prices rise or fall they still have a tough road ahead and it is the decisions they make that are important, The stock market have little faith in them getting out of their current situation hence the fall.
So far nothing Iwata has said gives me the confidence to invest in them again either.

hotlfusion commented on Satoru Iwata Admits The "Wii U Isn't In Good S...:

The "kiddie console" tag is a major problem for Nintendo. Yet Iwata thinks more needs to be done to get the wii u even more so.
Some of you think this is OK because you love Nintendo games. I love them too.
But the reality of the sales tell me that the people that like these "kiddie games" are far too few to sustain the wii u.
The reality around me shows that in the UK kids do not want a "kiddie console".
I find that European kids do not want to be associated with a kiddie console, yet there are kids. That's why the wii u is pretty much dead in Europe. Kids prefer kiddie games on the 3DS and mobiles.
But yet Iwata thinks he didn't do enough to draw kids to the wii u.
The only way to draw western kids to the wii u is to create lots of FPSes and sport games with realistic graphics because it seems that is all kids care about.
It is mainly the "nostalgics" that are keeping the wii u afloat.

REPLY TO @jkirchgessner07
While I do get your point I do not think profits on the X1 and PS4 will be as easy as on their predecessors.

Capcom stated that developing games on the XB1 and PS4 equates to roughly 10x more work. If true these consoles need to sell a lot of software to make profit.

Even so I don't see this as a saving grace for the wii u. So I agree with you.

hotlfusion commented on Talking Point: Is There A Future For The Wii U...:

Without the gamepad the wii u becomes a lesser console. Without the gamepad the wii u becomes just another PS3 or X360.

The problem is the developers, not the gamepad. The gamepad is what will make games like WatchDogs and Project Cars unique on the wii u (according to their developers).

It's not based on anything but an opinion but I think to release a wii u without the gamepad will just lead to EVEN MORE CONFUSION among consumers, who are pretty much already confused anyway.

hotlfusion commented on Talking Point: The Wii U's 'Relevance' Is Abou...:

@Caryslan
I agree with you 100%.
All the 3DS has to deal with in the handheld console market is the VIta/PSP, a relatively weak competitor.
The Wii U on the other hand is fighting the PS3 and x360 (two systems many believe it is not even as powerful as) which are cheaper, and the PS4 and X1which are newer, more desirable and will outsell the it in a matter of a few short months.
The 3DS early problems and recovery is nothing to be proud of. It was the start of Nintendo's woos. To be forced to drastically cut the price of a product so soon after launch severely impacts on your revenue and savages your financial forecast. It had to be done however.
I like my wii u and I am sure that Nintendo will support it for at least three more years, I can't wait for the games to come. My reality however tells me that the wii u will be lucky to sell as many units as the GameCube in what is a much harsher competition.
BTW Everyone is entitled to voice their opinion. Rather it be over a toy or politics. It's a forum, that's the whole purpose of a forum's existence.
Yes some people do get a bit steamed up over such thing for my liking but to each his own.

hotlfusion commented on UK Retailer Argos Drops Wii U Premium to £179.99:

I paid £189 for a wii u deluxe that came with Nintendoland and NSMB last month.
If the major UK retailers drop the price to £179 that makes an official price cut by Nintendo much less significant.

I can see the Wii U dropping to a price of £99 or Euros later this year or early next year. The UK and much of Europe just isn't interested even though the system is already selling way below market value.

Iwata has done a horrible job with the wii u. I cannot support him for that reason.
Great guy and everything but this is business. He will be remembered for two things as it stands.
1) Presiding over the outstanding sales performance of DS and the Wii.
2) Managing the company during the first series of losses in generations, if not in it's entire history.

Nintendo is on it's own, that's the bottom line. Any unexpected third-party games are a bonus.

I accept that. So no surprise on my side. I will just like to mention that Wii U has the largest userbase of the next-gen consoles so that's not really an excuse for developers not to make games for it.

They just rather not.

I am well pleased. SM3DW is still selling systems and hopefully will carry on doing so for a while yet. It is the only Wii U title in the mix at the sharp end.
Japan has woken up to what a good console the wii u is.They could just wait a couple months for PS4 but..they want it.
Now for Europe??

@rjejr
"And it's still possible the Wii U could gain some sales next year if Nintendo gets smart - rather than stupid - "

Can you remind me exactly when Nintendo did anything smart regarding the wii u?

As long as they keep the promised games coming I will be happy. As for their top management maybe it is best they step down.

When in March the 9m sales Iwata insist on sticking with fall way, way short there will be a price to pay. I do not see him getting out of this one.
Nothing personal against Iwata but he has handled this whole affair rather badly. Poor branding, poor marketing, poor planning...

Putting that aside come next year PS4 and more so xbox one sales will also drop drastically.

Good to see. When you think not that long ago it was selling less than 29K worldwide it does change the outlook.
As we all know the SuperMario3DWorld sales does not include downloads so all we are left with to reflect the true success of the game is the consoles that are sold.

Probably got early reports on the wii u sales following SM3DW in the US.
Many people believe that MS aim is to take over the living room. The problem is that my SMART TV does everything that the XB1 does except play complex games. Once Ballmer is gone XB1 is on rocky ground.
Sony simply needs the PS4 to be successful. Period.
Nintendo have between US$11 - US$15bn in hard cash reserved (depends on the report you read). The Gamecube was covered by the GameBoy so the company still made huge profits back then.
If it comes to it this time the 3DS will cover the Wii U.

I am not worried about the sales of the game. I am sure overall the game will sell very well. I wish Nintendo give figures of weekly downloads but I doubt this will happen anytime soon.
What is sad is that it didn't sell any significant number of consoles but that may change over the coming weeks.
I never really considered Japan to be honest. I was far more interested in how it sells in Europe and NA and how many wii u systems it can sell until the end of the year competing with the XB1 and PS4.

hotlfusion commented on iPhone Gaming Controller Could Mean "The End O...:

This report stated that the "gamepad" didn't catch on with android even though it has a far bigger market share than iOS. That's not surprising considering there are loads of android devices out there with different hardware. These phones come in different sizes and location of connection ports
The major problem with this "phone game controller" is that phones are always changing, The controller you buy today won't necesarily fit the phone you buy tomorrow, and phones are updated frequently.

Another problem with add-ons is that developers are not going to waste time developing for them unless the market is there. This then slow down sales of the add-on because the games that utilise them aren't there either.

How many third-party games used kinect or PS Move last gen?

In so many ways this reminds me of the 3ds a couple years back. Intelligent people predicting gloom and doom.
What the PS4 sells is irrelevant. What the xb1 sells is irrelevant. The future is unknown. I will take a low guess estimate based on what nintendo are doing now and say 25m. If Nintendo do what I hope they do with marketing and games I would say 50m.

BTW What are the HD twins? From what i gathered one of them dont do HD much better than the wii u.

hotlfusion commented on EA Germany Survey Fails To Acknowledge The Wii U:

I like FIFA and may just have to buy another console because I have so much fun playing it with my friends. These fun moments are priceless in what is generally a short life.
Hopefully PES 2015 will make it to the wii u because football (soccer) is the only type of game I care about from EA.
Alas I doubt this will happen as with so many other games the wii u sales will be probably poor.

hotlfusion commented on FAST Racing NEO To Feature 'Hyper Real Graphics':

Fast racing on the wii a truly awesome game considering the hardware it was on. Jett Rocket was just as pretty. Nano Assault Neo used only ONE cpu core on the wii u.

When it comes to the wii/wiiu these guys have cooked up some magic sauce. It wouldn't surprise me if bigger devs are keeping an eye on them to work on future wii u projects.Surely Nintendo must have them on their radar. These are the type of developers the wii u need onboard.

Today three wii u were ordered from Amazon at my work. I know because the people that ordered them told me they had done so. I am known as a Nintendo fanboy in the nicest terms of the definition.
One of those people included someone who had sold the wii u he had previously owned and told me he would never buy another nintendo home console.
I expect this game to do great things for the wii u but will try not to get too excited.
I don't care much for graphics but I would be lying if I said I wasn't pleased about the 1080p 60fps.

Unfortunately I must wait until the 29th.

@Laxeybobby
Since their ad got banned on British TV earlier this year I have seen nothing from them on TV in terms of the wii u. Granted I don't watch that much TV but in that time I have seen ads from Sony and you can't get X360 (and now XB1) ads off the TV.
It's like they are concentrating on the US (N.America) and Japan. Maybe they think the UK is a lost cause.

hotlfusion commented on Nintendo Addresses Confusion Surrounding Wii U...:

I think the whole issue of people misunderstanding the concept that the wii u is not the wii is overblown. I am not saying there is no case of confusion but I just think it not as widespread as reported. When a system sells badly you must find an excuse and this one fits.
If they were addressing the confusion issue as some think it could have been done better in my view.
"Upgrade" is ambiguous. "Upgrade" is adding more memory to your PC, not buying a new one. At the same time you can "Upgrade" your phone which is to get a new one.
Rather than "upgrade" I would have used "new", as in "the new wii u console comes with the all new gamepad" or something to that effect.

hotlfusion commented on Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of...:

I bought my wii u not long ago knowing that it will be another wii but with far less sales. I bought it to play Nintendo games and I got it at a good price.
Before it's launch their were so many developers singing the praises of the wii u, look it up. Fast forward to 2014 and I don't think there would be any third-party developers left by the end of the year.
That's the reality of it. Some people it seems believed too much of what Nintendo promised. Maybe Nintendo believed it themselves but whatever none of it is likely to come to fruition. It is disappointing when you read through the posts from 2012 on Nintendo fan forums and reflect on the high hopes so many fans had for the wii u sales and third-party support.
I know it is far too early to talk of the next Nintendo console but if they do release a successor to the wii u it would be interesting to see exactly where they go with it.
But back to the present and I am sure the wii u will do well enough.

hotlfusion commented on Poll: As the PS4 Arrives, What Do You Think of...:

Coming last is not a big issue as long as the wii u sells enough units to sustain itself, whatever that figure maybe.
As for the other consoles the PS4 is more appealing to me. The only title that looks interesting on the xb1 is Titanfall and I don't need the console for that, my 3 year old PC will run it better.
